E404 - Bourbon Brokering with Chevalier Casks 20 oct. 202601:32:33

Chevalier Casks is a brokered marketplace and timed sales platform for whiskey barrels, cooperage, distillery equipment, and related inventory. They help connect buyers and sellers in the whiskey market and simplify complex transactions. In this episode, we discuss bulk whiskey sales and barrel brokering with the leaders of Chevalier: Coby Adkins, Ben Franzini, and Sam Rock. Collectively, these guys have many years of experience in spirits finance, distilling, operations, and hospitality. While you may not be familiar with Chevalier, they are responsible for some of the absolute best whiskey that we've had in our glasses over the past few years. This conversation covers everything from the current and future state of the whiskey market to all the things that Chevalier does to serve distilleries, brand owners, bottlers, and industry partners. So if you've ever wondered what a barrel broker does, this episode is for you. In addition to the fascinating conversation, we also share and discuss some amazing pours (as usual).

E402 - Heaven Hill Bottled-In-Bond Double Mash13 oct. 202600:20:34

What do you get when you blend two mashbills at a large heritage distillery. Why...it's twice the mash...some might call it double mash. For this week's short, we taste and review Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond Double Mash. This is 9-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey released in a few months ago. Coming in at 100 proof, this expression is comprised of two mashbills blended together. The result is a four grain bourbon that contains corn, malted barley, and equal parts wheat and rye. So is this experiment one worth trying? Give us a listen to find out.

E400 - Maker's Mark Export from 198106 oct. 202600:18:25

This week's short involves a bottle of Maker's Mark that was bottled in 1981. This is the same year that Steven and Anthony were born. While we couldn't organize an all-star lineup for our monumental 400th episode, we did think it would be appropriate to crack a bottle that is a little harder to find. If you were to visit a store in 1981 buy this bottle of bourbon, it would have cost you $10. Even though that doesn't seem like a lot -- it was quite expensive then and people noticed. So, how does this bottle taste roughly 45 years after it was bottled? You'll have to give us a listen to find out. We want to thank you all for your continued support of the podcast. Cheers!

E399 - Bottles from the Kentucky Bourbon Festival 02 oct. 202601:07:07

Even though it's been a few weeks since the Kentucky Bourbon Festival (KBF) ended, we still have quite a few bottles to talk about. In this episode, we taste and review numerous bottles that were sold at KBF. Brands include Dark Arts, Old Louisville, Samuel Call, Jackson's Purchase, and more! The fellas engage in a wide ranging conversation that will spark nostalgia for some of you. But most of all, you'll get to hear our take on MANY new and exciting bottles from some brands you are familiar with (and some you've probably never heard of).

E398 - EverNorth BDH Bourbon (Distillery Only)29 sept. 202600:28:11

The whole crew is back together and today we are talking about EverNorth. For those that couldn't make it to the Kentucky Bourbon Festival (KBF), Dan and Sean and the rest of the crew at EverNorth Spirits released a near hazmat bourbon known as "BDH." This bottle is a limited, single-barrel short-barrel bourbon release distilled at Green River with a 78/13/9 corn/rye/malted barley mash bill, bottled at cask strength 68% ABV. They chose to release this bottle due to it's exceptional profile and bold flavors. What do we think? Give us a listen to find out.

E396 - Redwood Empire The Hyperion Batch 00122 sept. 202600:15:21

In this episode, we taste, review, and discuss a brand new limited offering from Redwood Empire. Named after the world's tallest coastal redwood tree (The Hyperion), this inaugural expression is a blend of 32% bourbon, 30% rye, 25% wheat whiskey, and 9% American single malt. Coming it at 110 proof, we're not sure if we've ever tasted a whiskey that contains distillate from four different states: Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and California. This special limited blend is the first of it's kind of a planned annual (non repeating) release. But, how does it taste? Spoiler alert, the guys are split on this one, leading to some lively discussion for a short.

Barrell Bourbon Cigar Blend is a limited-release, cask-strength straight bourbon whiskey that contains distillate from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana that is finished in four different casks. Released in March 2026, this highly acclaimed expression is explicitly layered and built to stand up alongside a premium cigar, though it is engineered to be equally compelling on its own. The retail price is $84.99. In this episode, we taste and review this blended bourbon and compare it to another "cigar" blend whiskey. The guys also talk about recent bourbon experiences, tonsillectomies, and a host of other topics. Should you be chasing this new offering from Barrell? We'll give you our honest take.

E394 - Knob Creek 12 Year Cask Strength (2026)15 sept. 202600:16:43

The very first time we saw Knob Creek 12 Year Cask Strength bourbon appear was back in 2020. Hitting retail shelves for about $90 a bottle, the whiskey disappeared pretty quickly and secondary prices went up. Now, in 2026, the good folks at Jim Beam are back at it. In this episode, we taste and review the brand new batch of Knob Creek 12 at cask strength. As you know, we can be pretty tough on some beam products. However, our verdict on this one may surprise you. Do you like Knob Creek and other Beam products? Let us know if you do and thanks for listening.

E391 - Dark Arts KBF Bottles 04 sept. 202601:02:29

The Kentucky Bourbon Festival kicks off next Friday and we have an early review of some bottles that can be purchased there. You've heard us talk about Dark Arts MANY times on the podcast. Even though enthusiasts are familiar with all the great alchemy that is taking place right here in Lexington, KY - we feel the best is yet to come for this still relatively new whiskey house. In this episode, we taste and review two of their upcoming releases: a hazmat Kentucky bourbon and a 19 year old Kentucky bourbon that was finished for an astonishing 7 years in Japanese Mizunara. Along the way, we talk about the coming fall season, sports, and a bunch of other fun stuff. Are you going to KBF? If so, you'll want to give Dark Arts a visit!

E390 - Michter's 10 Year Straight Rye Whiskey (2026)01 sept. 202600:21:58

If you've listened to the podcast before, you know that we are generally fans of Michter's products. For this short, we taste and review this years version of Michter's 10 Year Straight Rye Whiskey. This is one of the more premium (but attainable) offerings from Michter's and it doesn't release annually. The release is made up of many ultra-aged single barrels and this whiskey is very sought after by newbies and seasoned enthusiasts. So join us this week as we give you our take on this rye. We are also joined by our friend Todd Ritter (The Bourbon Road) and he participates in pass, try, or buy.

E389 - Jack Daniel’s High Angel’s Share Tennessee Whiskey 28 août 202600:46:26

In this episode, we taste and review the brand new Jack Daniel’s High Angel's Share Tennessee Whiskey.

The new limited release is comprised of traditional Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey laid down in 2016. The whiskey rested atop Coy Hill on the top floor of Barrelhouse 1-13 for a high angel’s share maturation. As the barrels rested in the highest reaches of the barrelhouse, an increased amount of whiskey was lost, presenting a very unique whiskey.

But how does it taste? We'll give you our perspective and we hope you have a chance to try it. Cheers! 🥃

In this episode, we taste and review the brand new Booker’s The Reserves 2026. This is a limited-edition Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey finished in apple brandy barrels and infused with cinnamon. This is a family recipe of sorts and it's meant to honor the tradition that Booker used to follow during the holidays when he used Booker's barrels to age homemade apple wine. This rye is aged for a little over 6 years and comes in at 125.1 proof and is uncut, unfiltered, and non-chill filtered. Give us a listen to find out how it tastes.

E387 - Blade and Bow 12 Year Solera Reserve & Bulleit 87'21 août 202601:03:16

For this Friday's long and strong episode, we dive into a few new things from the Diageo portfolio. The first is Bulleit '87. This new offering is a blend of Kentucky bourbon and Indiana rye finished with toasted American and French oak staves. It is meant to honor the brands founding year (1987), is 90 proof, and carries a low MSRP of $30. The other bottle we taste in this episode is the Blade and Bow 12-Year-Old Solera Reserve. This is a limited offering which features a blend of old stocks finished in a variety of different wine casks. Coming in at 104 proof, this whiskey has an MSRP of $64.99. One of these whiskeys was OK and the other left us scratching our heads. Can you guess which one we weren't super fond of before you listen? Spoiler alert - this was just one of many episodes we recorded in one night so shenanigans ensued. Cheers!

E386 - Potter Jane's Big Vat Liar Bourbon 18 août 202600:18:25

In this short, we taste and review the first release from Potter Jane Distilling Company. Big Vat Liar is a limited-edition sourced Kentucky straight bourbon priced at $49.99. Founders Denny Potter and Jane Bowie broke their prior vow not to source whiskey and it resulted in a release of 1,200 bottles as their own distillate continues to age. They are planning to release their own distillate in 2029. You won’t only get to hear our thoughts about this bottle, but you will also hear Kenny discuss a recent event where he got to meet the founders and purchase this bottle. The future definitely looks promising for these industry veterans and their budding brand.

E385 - Colonel E.H. Taylor Cured Oak and EverNorth Picks!14 août 202600:56:37

Buffalo Trace recently released Colonel E.H. Taylor Cured Oak Bourbon. This whiskey originally debuted in 2015 and that version of it was 17 years old. This new release is only 10 years old, but the process for making it remains the same. Cured Oak is created by using white oak barrel staves cured in open air for 13 months (more than double the standard 6 months). This reduces harsh tannins and pulls out more wood sugars during the aging process. Similar to the Four Grain release, this one has been met with much hype and fanfare, but we are here to tell you how it tastes. However, that might not even be the most exciting thing about this episode. Kenny recently took at trip to EverNorth in Michigan for the Pours and Pars event hosted by the Bourbon Junkies and he ended up selecting two ryes that we will release for the podcast in the future. We taste those in this episode and give you our initial thoughts. Cured Oak and EverNorth stuff...yeah...I know...I'd be jealous too. Cheers.

Curated by our friend David Jennings, it features a blend of hand-selected barrels combining a traditional 95/5 rye mash bill with an experimental 100% rye. The whiskey is 8 years old and comes in at 110.76 proof. How does this one taste? You'll have to listen to find out. The A. Smith Bowman Distillery is Virginia's oldest operating whiskey distillery, founded in 1934 in Fairfax County just after the end of Prohibition. Now located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, it has become famous for it's award winning bourbons and it's association with Sazerac/Buffalo Trace. In the life of the podcast, we've never tasted or reviewed any Bowman product. However, in this episode we dive straight into the annual limited "cask strength" release. E382 - New Era (NEWS) Experimental Laser Beam: Operation Successful 04 août 202600:23:13

If you've listened to the podcast, you've heard us mention how legendary Brad Williams is when it comes to Liquor Barn store picks. In this short, we taste and review a brand new Liquor Barn store pick that comes from NEWS (New Era Whiskey and Social Club). This bourbon is 11 years old, is 135.2 proof, and carries a mashbill of 71% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. It's rumored to be Beam distillate, but we don't know that for sure. One thing is certain - we'll give you our honest review of this single barrel selection and also comment on what we feel might be on the horizon for the NDP market this year. Cheers y'all.

Pulled from a variety of single barrels and priced at $500 - this stands as the oldest release in the distillery's history. If you've been paying attention, then you know we already did a fresh crack of this on YouTube. However, we wanted to put this bourbon through it's paces. Therefore, in this episode, we blind it against King of Kentucky, Russell's 15, Austin Nichols Archives Gold Foil, and an old Elijah Craig Batch 10 Barrel Proof (pirate bottle). What will come out on top? You've have to listen to find out.

E380 - Corking Off! W/ Kyle & Russell's Reserve 13 (Eddie's 45th Anniversary)28 juil. 202600:59:32

We originally met Kyle on a barrel pick for Bluegrass Liquor Box. A few months ago, Kyle burst onto the bourbon media scene with his eclectic and hilarious social media bourbon review series called "Corking Off! W/ Kyle." In addition to his own show, Kyle has also been cohosting "This is My Bourbon Podcast" with our friend Perry Ritter. In this episode, we talk with Kyle about his bourbon journey and the inspiration behind his comedic bourbon reviews. We also sip on quite a few pours. Just when we thought the episode was coming to a close, Kyle decided to "cork off" the brand new Russell's Reserve 13 year. So, what started as a fun interview ends with one of our standard bottle reviews of a very exciting new bottle. We were lucky to call Kyle a friend before he started making us laugh on social media. Definitely check him out on YouTube and Instagram (@corkingoff).

E378 - Old Forester 117 Series High Angels' Share Rye21 juil. 202600:20:03

Old Forester High Angels' Share Rye released in March 2026 as part of their limited The 117 Series. Out of all the bottles we've reviewed from this series, this is definitely one of the most unique. Rumored to contain 12 year old whiskey, this 110-proof Kentucky straight rye was pulled from rare barrels that suffered exceptionally high evaporation loss, leaving behind a highly concentrated, rich flavor profile. We've gotten all kind of different tasting notes on rye whiskey, but the major note that we all got on this pour was equally surprising and pleasing. Tune into this short to find out what that tasting note is and ultimately what we thought of this rye whiskey.

We discuss favorite things we've tasted this year, memorable episodes, and speculate on bourbon trends. There are a host of other topics that we get into as well. The episode finishes with an epic pour that is a top bourbon of all time for Kenny. It's been a minute since we just chilled and sipped without an an agenda. Hope you enjoy!

E376 - New Era (NEWS) "Cherry Cola Catastrophe"14 juil. 202600:23:42

Back in episode 278, we interviewed Zane Brammell and he foreshadowed the all the wonderful things on the horizon for New Era Whiskey. In this episode, we taste and review a single barrel pick called from NEWS called "Cherry Cola Catastrophe." This short barrel of sourced bourbon was picked by a private club, but we recently obtained it when Jason went to the soft opening of the New Era tasting room and social club right here in Lexington, Kentucky. We've been big fans of all things NEWS. How will we fill about this pick? Join us for this short and get some great info on a place you will want to visit on your next trip to the commonwealth.

E375 - Wild Turkey Austin Nichols Archives Gold Foil Edition & More!10 juil. 202601:14:37

The Wild Turkey Austin Nichols Archives Collection is a limited-edition annual series led by Associate Master Blender Bruce Russell. The inaugural release is the Gold Foil Edition, a 16-year-old, 120-proof (60% ABV) non-chill filtered bourbon. Retailing at about $400, it pays homage to vintage, highly sought-after 1980s and 90s "Cheesy Gold Foil" releases. This whiskey is exciting enough on it's own, but we must blind. Ever since the Gold Foil Edition came out, we've all been asked how it compares to other recent sought after Wild Turkey releases. So, here it is, the new Gold Foil Edition blinded against Beacon, Russell's 15, and WT Generations. Spoiler alert: the results weren't consistent across the board, but they were pretty compelling. So join for this episode as we taste and talk about some of the best modern Turkey releases compare to one another. We also give you our full take on Gold Foil;

E374 - Evan Williams 250th Commemorative Edition Bourbon07 juil. 202600:16:10

While the Fourth of July came and went, we are still celebrating 250 years of 'Merica. This week, we taste and review Evan Williams America 250th Commemorative Edition which is a limited-release, single-barrel Kentucky straight bourbon priced around $40. For this release, the Master Distillers at Heaven Hill selected 250 single barrels to honor America's 250th anniversary. The bourbon itself is non-chill filtered, aged over 7 years, and bottled at a bold 117.76 proof (58.88% ABV) as a nod to 1776. Does this pour live up to the pomp and circumstance of the 250th anniversary of our great nation. You'll have to listen to find out.

E373 - New Riff High Note Bourbon & Silver Springs Rye03 juil. 202600:55:51

New Riff recently added to it's "high note" collection by releasing a 10 year old, limited edition cask strength bourbon. Coming in at 116.9 proof and carrying one of the oldest age statements since New Riff began, this bourbon is what we've been waiting for. But how does it taste? We will give you the low down. In addition to the New Riff bourbon, we also elected to taste and review Silver Springs Rye which comes from an NDP in Tennessee. However, it is rumored to be distilled at New Riff. So join us for this episode as we delve into these bottles and also discuss recent releases at Buffalo Trace, Lunchables, and Anthony's anxiety for Total Wine. Cheers to 250 years of 'Merica.

E371 - Four Roses Father's Day Special Release (2026)26 juin 202600:52:58

For the third straight year, we are bringing you a review of the annual Four Roses Father's Day Special Release. This year, Four Roses changed the slogan on the side of the glass to read, "A Pour Worth Sharing. A Memory Worth Making." But, how does it taste? This years limited offering was made up of numerous OBSV single barrels that were aged 14 years in a variety of different rick houses on the property and bottled as varying cask strength proofs. Perhaps the best thing about this episode is that we recorded it on Father's Day and the whole crew was involved. Get ready for shenanigans and some surprise blinds as we give you our honest take on this annual sought after bottle.

The James E. Pepper Decanter Barrel Proof Rye a premium, uncut, and unfiltered limited-release whiskey distilled at the historic James E. Pepper Distillery (DSP-KY-5) in Lexington, Kentucky. This whiskey is aged for 6-8 years and comes in at 115.6 proof. Shortly after it's release, this whiskey has garnered a lot of praise from the whiskey community. Some have even called it an early candidate for whiskey of the year. But what do the fellas think? You'll have to listen to find out. Join us for this short as Kenny and Jason taste and blind this whiskey. Regardless of what they think, there is no denying that the 1940s style decanter that contains the whiskey is absolutely gorgeous.

E369 - Colonel E.H. Taylor Four Grain Bourbon19 juin 202600:37:24

A.I says...Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Four Grain is an incredibly rare, limited-release bourbon by Buffalo Trace that features an unconventional mashbill of corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley. Bottled-in-bond at 100 proof, the sought-after whiskey balances the sweetness of wheat with the classic spice of rye. Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably saw that Buffalo Trace recently released this bottle after an almost 10 year hiatus. It was met with much fanfare and calamity at the distillery. But, was it worth the hype? Join Kenny and El Jason as they guide you through a tasting of this bourbon and compare it with other four grain bourbons.

E368 - Mash Up Barrel Pick Short 16 juin 202600:26:25

We continue to partner with Bros Liquor in Davis, California to bring you some excellent barrel picks. In this short, Kenny and Jason taste and review two Mash Up Barrel picks that are currently available for purchase from Bros Liquor. The two bottles are Old Forester 100 proof (black label) and a Four Roses OBSO Barrel Strength. In addition to these two, they also taste a Knob Creek Barrel pick that was done by our friend Rare Bird 101 (David Jennings). So, if you want to hear about some barrel picks that you can still obtain, this show is for you. Spoiler alert -- with Anthony and Steven out of town, the intro was anything but smooth. E367 - Dusty Old Crow12 juin 202600:42:46

Steven recently acquired a 1960s bottle of Old Crow. How he got his hands on it is equally as compelling as the bottle itself. So join us this week as we go down the rabbit hole that is dusty bourbon. The bottle we taste on this episode was produced by National Distillers which was a famed producer of whiskey before selling it's entire portfolio to Beam in the 1980s. Since Old Crow is still being produced today, we couldn't resist the urge to compare this old bottle with the current version of the whiskey. A little history, a great story, and sharing a bottle of history was an absolute treat and we are glad you are here for it.

E366 - Star Hill Farm American Wheat Whisky (2026)09 juin 202600:28:27

About a year ago, we reviewed the inaugural release of the Star Hill Farm American Wheat Whisky. You can go back to episode 265 to listen to that review. For this week's short, we taste and review the Maker's Mark 2026 Star Hill Farm American Wheat Whisky. It is a limited-edition cask-strength expression. Unlike the distillery’s traditional wheated bourbons, it is a 100% wheat-focused whisky made from three wheat varieties (soft red winter, hard red, and hard white) and carries a retail price of $100. We liked last years version of this quite a bit. Will this bottle be a repeat or leave us wanting more? You'll have to listen to find out.

Well, aside from that, Kenny recently made the trek up to Michigan and picked some EverNorth barrels for the podcast. He selected these with a star studded crew of friends and patrons. Since the rest of the fellas didn't get to taste the picks, this episode is dedicated to tasting and commenting on the barrels that were selected. E364 - Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection 15 Year Wheated 02 juin 202600:13:07

If you've ever had the chance to visit Buffalo Trace, then you've almost certainly heard them talk about experimental bourbon mashbills, barrels, and aging processes. Experimentation is something they take seriously at the "Trace" which has resulted in more than 30,000 "experimental" barrels that are aging in their warehouses. For this this short, we taste and review one of the more recent releases from this collection: 15 Year Experimental Wheated Mash. The release comes from just 13 barrels that were aged for 15 years on the first floor of Warehouse H. Over the course of maturation, 62% of the whiskey was lost to evaporation. The final product was then chill-filtered and bottled at 107 proof. The result? You'll have to listen to find out.

E363 - Jack Daniel's Special Release Small Batch Rye (2026)29 mai 202601:02:32

Just last year, Jack Daniel's released Tanyard Hill Rye to much acclaim. On the heels of that release, they surprised the entire enthusiast community by releasing five different ryes via their White Rabbit Gift Shop. Each of these special release bottles are 8-10 years old and range in proof from 142.7 to 146.1. These five batches comes from three different Jack Daniel’s barrel house locations: Coy Hill, Boiler Hill, and Fire Brigade Fields. A total of 129 barrels were used for this release, and these barrels were laid down between February 2016 and August 2017. First and foremost, we would like to give a shout out to our listener David who graciously provided the samples to make this episode possible. But, how do these bottles taste? We took a long trip with many twists and turns to find out. You won't want to miss our take on these highly limited and coveted releases. If you've tasted them, we want to know what you think. The other bottle which originates from Barrel King is Drum Key Spirits Rye'd Cymbal Batch 2. This blend is crafted by Jason Callori of The Mash and Drum. Blood Oath is the signature series of Lux Row Distillers and has been around since 2015. We reviewed last years offering which was a blend of straight bourbons finished in tequila casks. For this new release, industry veteran, John Rempe chose to marry his love of Italian wine with bourbon. Pact No. 12 is a blend of 7-9-12 year old bourbons (different recipes) finished in Italian Montepulciano and Sangiovese wine casks. How do you pronounce those names? Don't ask us. E359 - Four Roses Mother's Day Special Release (2026)15 mai 202600:57:42

Over the past two years, we've reviewed Four Roses annual Father's Day release. However, for the first official time in the history of the brand, Four Roses put out a single barrel/barrel strength gift shop only release to honor all the mothers out there. Dawning the slogan, "all the proof you need for this Mother's day," this inaugural release was made up of numerous OBSQ single barrels that were 14 years old with various proofs in the 115 range. This distillery only release joins other holiday-centric releases and will likely become a yearly tradition. How does this stand up to previous limited roses bottles we tasted? We'll tell you all you need to know about this one and our take might shock you. Also, we recorded this episode on Mother's Day! E358 - Kentucky Wildcask Bourbon (Release # 2)12 mai 202600:25:20

Kentucky Wildcask bourbon is back! Around this time last year, we tasted and reviewed the inaugural release of this product. We were impressed and excited to see what was on the horizon for the next release. As a reminder, Wildcask Bourbon is created by a group of students at the University of Kentucky who are learning about all aspects of the commercialization of bourbon. This class at UK is part of the Distillation, Wine, and Brewing Certificate offered by the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. So how does the sophomore release of product taste? More importantly, how does it taste compared to last years offering? You'll have to listen to find out. This bourbon is definitely one of a kind in terms of how it is produced and we are excited to see what the future holds.

Recently, some of our "friends we haven't met yet" came into Lexington and some madness ensued. In the aftermath, we discovered two bottles (amongst the ruble) to review. For this week's episode, we taste and review Old Charter Finest Oak Bourbon and barrel # 80 of Single Oak Project. We've talked about Single Oak Project before, but when it comes to Old Charter, we are in uncharted territory. What does Buffalo Trace do and how do these brand new gift shop releases taste? You'll have to listen to find out. As per the usual, the conversation dovetails far off the beaten path.

E356 - Triple Blind Tasting05 mai 202600:28:46

It's been a minute since we hit some blinds. In this short, we knock the rust off and ready our palates for some good ole' blind tastings. We also discuss our forthcoming appearance on "poor guesses" which is a blind taste off with the Bourbon Junkies. We also talk about recent barrel picks and all kinds of other fun stuff. So please join us this week and we attempt to guess age, proof, and distillate of three blinds samples. Two of the blinds are from large heritage distillers and other is single barrel from another podcast. Want more info than that - just give us a listen.
