Send us a text

-Do you struggle from work-related guilt? Many female leaders I work with do.

Work-related guilt causes work-related stress and many women go through their whole careers with this burden on their back.

As long as the guilt is there, the stress and anxiety are there too.

And this constant cycle of negative talk in your head will cause you to go crazy!

Do you relate to any of the below?

  • Feeling guilty for taking time off work even though you are entitled to it.
  • Feeling guilty for calling in sick because you are letting your team down even if you are so ill you cannot leave your bed.
  • Feeling major mom guilt or aunty guilt for not getting to spend enough time with the kids, or missing out on milestones because you were at work.
  • Feeling guilty when you’re chilling with family or friends because you “should” be working

You may work so hard that you don’t have time or energy to cook so you eat crap - and boom… here comes the guilt for not eating healthy!

It is a never-ending cycle…You are only one person, so it is time to cut yourself some slack.

In this week's episode of the Powerhouse Revolution podcast you’ll learn:

[01:18] The things most women leaders feel guilty about

[03:26] The only thing you can do when that feeling of guilt creeps in

#043 3 Big Mistakes You Make When it Comes to Work-Life Balance19 Oct 202200:15:41

Send us a text

What is work-life balance?

Work-life balance is imperative for your success. It is the ability to split your time between your personal life (e.g. friends and family) and your job.

It is something we all strive for - it is so important for your mental health and the ability to work to your full potential.

As a woman in a leadership role, sometimes the job can be all-consuming. You are a driven, high-achieving woman and you strive to deliver on all your projects despite the time constraints, but you are also juggling many balls at once as well as ensuring the rest of your team is okay and it is hard to find that balance or the time to switch off.

Sound familiar?

A lack of work-life balance can cause burnout. Burnout can be so dangerous to your mental health and lead to exhaustion. A lack of work-life balance and burnout is a large reason many people are leaving their roles.

Yes, the money may be great, and that is why a lot of people stay even when they are struggling or unhappy overworking themselves.

Sometimes in life, we just accept this burnout or lack of a work-life balance because that is what you signed up for as a leader, right? It is possible that you can enter this stagnant phase of your life and think ‘how did I get here?’

But this doesn’t have to be the case.

From working with my clients as well as working in the corporate world myself for 17 years, there are some patterns I have noticed that are stopping people from having the balance they deserve and truly need.

In this episode, I will share 3 mistakes you make when it comes to work-life balance, and tips on what to do instead.

It is time to change the narrative, switch off from work, and cut yourself some slack. Only then you will be able to cope better with life's challenges so you can go back to being the most productive and dedicated leader you can be (within your working hours of course!).

Here’s the episode at a glance:

[05:07] 3 steps you must take to set your boundaries

#037 How I Saved 26 Hours per Month by Making 5 Small Changes07 Sep 202200:19:05

Send us a text

As a woman in a leadership position, do you ever feel like there is just not enough time in the day?

Do you often ask yourself ‘how can I save more time to do the things I actually enjoy?’

Maybe you have begun to get up earlier in the mornings so you can get more work done but no matter how much earlier you get up, you just can’t catch a break.

The good news is, there are multiple ways you can save more time per month as a leader if you make small changes to your lifestyle.

Time management can be very hard for people in leadership roles to grasp and this can leave busy women with families in time-consuming job roles feeling burnt out and overwhelmed.

It is important to prioritise your time putting the things that are important to you first - such as making memories with your family or reconnecting with yourself. If you don’t do this, your personal life and mental health will suffer.

By using these time-saving tips, you can reduce stress and increase productivity all while saving YOU  time.

But first, let me tell you a quick story.

A few weeks back, I was really struggling with time. As a business owner with a small team, I wear many hats, just like you. I naively thought when I left the corporate world, it would be easier but I was wrong!

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade my business for a second, but the workload is intense, especially when you value excellence and providing exceptional service to my clients as I do.

I’m a mother. I have 3 kids to take care of with a  house and business to run. I was under pressure and I noticed myself snapping at those around me which is not what I want (yep, I’m only human too!)

That’s when I decided to do something about it. It was time to think outside the box.

I needed to be strategic and take control of my day and stop allowing it to control me. That’s when I implemented 5 small changes that saved me 26 hours which I share in this week's episode.

Listen now to find out how I freed up 26 hours a month! Yes, really! It’s not as difficult as you may think.

You can do this too so you have more time to do the things you love.

Here’s the episode at a glance:

[05:57] A powerful hack that will save you hours instantly
[07:17] Why investing in support is the smart thing to do
[07:58] How leveraging resources you have discounted will save you time

#034 How to Be More Present Through the Power of Mindfulness With Niall Breslin17 Aug 202200:52:09

Send us a text

Do you want to be more present with your loved ones and stop allowing work problems to take over?

When you work in a high-pressure environment with so many KPIs to hit, people to lead and clients to please, it can be hard to turn off, especially at home with your family. You may be asking yourself:

‘How can I be more present?

‘How can I become more mindful about life outside work?’

You might even begin to feel guilty for this.

Mindfulness is not just about relaxation. It has far more power than that. It is the ability to live in the present moment, non judgementally. Non-judgement is the hardest part, especially for high-achieving human beings.

The new productivity obsessed the modern world - with its fixation with technology, and unrealistic life/goal expectations have conditioned your mind not to be present or mindful. This may cause you to look for validation.

Sound familiar?

Today, Niall Breslin shares his story and powerful tips to help you be more mindful and present in your life.

Niall is one of Ireland’s most formidable and inspiring mental health advocates and public speakers. He is a best-selling children's book author, podcaster, musician, philanthropist and former professional athlete.

So buckle up, because this episode is jam-packed with life advice and golden nuggets to ensure you become more mindful and present.

Did you know that practising gratitude actually makes you happier?

You’re a busy woman, there are a lot of things going on in your life at all times. But what if I told you that if you began to practise gratitude, you would see such a change in your mindset and a change in your mood?

As humans, we tend to more quickly focus on the negative aspects of our lives - everything we don’t have. The car we want, the body we want, the money we want.

But when you do this, you are coming from a place of scarcity and lack within you. When this happens, you are not going to be in your creative/innovative zone and you are not going to feel good about yourself.

And you deserve to think the absolute best about yourself.

Life is short and what we don’t want is to focus on things that do not bring us abundance or happiness.

Today’s podcast covers how to implement a gratitude practice into your life and research to back it up.

Executive Presence Part 2: How to Become a Stellar Communicator08 Jun 202400:15:25

Send us a text

Welcome to part 2 of my mini training series on Executive Presence.

There have been a lot of changes over the past decade when it comes to executive presence and being able to communicate with confidence is a key part of inspiring action within your team and building trust with key stakeholders.

As I mentioned in part one of the training - which if you haven’t listened to yet I highly recommend you go back and listen - is that when it comes to gravita and commanding a room, confidence is at the core of communicating effectively.

And why is that?

Confidence instils trust.

Trust leads to opportunities.

Opportunities lead to recognition and I KNOW that is what you want.

You can and you will become an amazing communicator.

The first step is recognising that it is possible for you to master this skill.

In part two, you will learn:

  • Why communication is the number one skill you need to master to influence people and become magnetic
  • The biggest mistakes I see all the time that leaders make when it comes to communication
  • The types of communication sub-skills you need to master to truly build your executive presence

#010 Why Women Leaders Must Support Each Other in the Corporate World with Unni Turrettini02 Mar 202200:36:49

Send us a text

When women support women, great things happen.

Many of you know this and lead with grace and inclusivity but there are others who are unaware of how their actions can affect their female counterparts.

Today's episode is in honour of International Womens Day 2022 which falls on March 8th. The theme for International women's Day this year is breaking the bias.

In this episode, my special guest is author, Ted X speaker and facilitator Unni Turretti. Unni shares how she experienced first-hand what it was like to be shunned by a senior woman leader she looked up to in the corporate world and the profound effect it had.

We have a somewhat controversial discussion hoping to raise awareness about the issue of women feeling threatened by other women. And yes, trigger warning, some women are perceived as being unsupportive by their actions and behaviours, which may be unconscious, which is why its so important we talk about this stuff.

We discuss:

  • What is it like to work as a woman in a Wall Street law firm
  • The detrimental impact when women don't support each other
  • Why sharing something you’re struggling with is a good thing
  • How to cultivate a culture of connection between women
  • 3 things that corporate women leaders must do to support one another
