| EP122 "Style and Grace" Kajsa Quinterno | 13 Dec 2024 | 00:39:33 | |
"I'm a mother, sister, daughter; a lover of beauty and Earth. By education I am a sociologist, gone visual merchandiser/stylist, currently studying graphic design. I love to take note of the ordanic beauty in nature and also to make the world more beautiful, whether that is through my visual styling and graphic design work, my mothering, my ways I practice co-living on earth as a yogini. It is in my nature to think of people collectively and that is something I'm consciously and unconsciously weaving into my work. " NON-NEGOTIABLE SELF-CARE ROUTINE OR HABIT: "Face oil + massage AM + PM and I love chai or herbal infusions in the evening, before bed time, when everyone is sleeping; chamomille and rose are my most beloved flower allies." @helsinkihealingartscenter

| EP22 "A Refined Foundation" Kymberly Kelly | 18 Jul 2019 | 00:39:16 | |
Kymberly Kelly M.S., L.Ac. is an acupuncturist and herbalist practicing in New York City for the past 15 years. She specializes in women’s health and fertility, and also sees general conditions such as anxiety, digestive problems, pain, headaches, allergies, insomnia and immune issues. I met Kymberly 8 or 9 years ago, as I was seeking support in staying pregnant... Following a series of miscarriages I took a multi-prong approach and integrated Eastern and Western medicine into my protocol, she was a key player in my wellness tribe. Kymberly is the sweet and warm, and I swear she has magic hands! After finishing college and living in South America for a few years, she returned to the States to study Chinese Medicine, and completed her studies in California before moving to New York and starting her practice. When she’s not working in the clinic, you can find her in the mountains doing some trail riding or sitting under a shady tree, pretending to read a book. For appointments and please visit her website renwellness.com, and for great seasonal practical advice please visit Kymberly’s blog. KYMBERLY’S FAVORITES Keep my sanity essentials: English Breakfast Tea, Comfy Pajamas, InstaPups Videos, Comedy podcasts or watching standup comedy. These things either are comforting or make me laugh! Favorite workout is definitely trail riding on my bike! But when I can’t get out of the city, I go to the pilates studio in my neighborhood for reformer classes. Non-negotiable self care ritual is Acupuncture of course! I do body treatments to keep myself healthy and Cosmetic acupuncture to keep my skin looking good! I also make sleep a priority. (It’s almost a joke with people who know me!) You can fall into a rut of skimping on an hour here or there when things get busy, but I really make time for it and put it into my schedule like any thing else. I find that if I get enough sleep and get regular acupuncture tune-ups, my body runs well, I almost never get sick, and feel good overall. Family advice… My parents have always taken very good care of themselves. Before it was trendy, my mother was very aware of the importance of healthy food and both of my parents have exercised regularly their whole lives- and it shows! They are in such great health! They have plenty of energy to do the things they want, they aren’t on any medications and are generally vibrant, happy people. It’s something to aspire to! -- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. Coaching registration is open! | EP20 "Honoring The Inner Child " Liza Fenster | 20 May 2019 | 00:56:58
Welcome to one of the most heart felt, humbling, vulnerable and powerful conversation we’ve had on The Live Journal Podcast, as Liza Fenster - a woman whom I adore and admire - shares her life experiences, and how the hardships faced during childhood and teenage hood shaped the healing conduit she is today. Liza is a NY based Reiki Master Teacher and Tarot reader that works under the moniker of Crow Mother. She offers a combined 20 years of study and experience in service to a local and global community, and it is her highest honor to do so. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Liza this past year, and did Reiki I training with her guidance. Listen in, get inspired, feel the love, and If you’d like to know more about her services you please go to thecrowmother.com , or @crow..mother on Instagram. LIZA’S FAVORITES My “keep my sanity” essentials are pretty simple but I cherish them so much! I love to get a few minutes of alone time in the morning when I walk our dog to get coffee while my husband gets our son up and sorted. I have a daily mantra meditation practice that has become meaningful and grounding, and I also reaaallllyyyy love to go to Great Jones Spa for a soak and a facial every month or two. My non negotiable self care tool is the very necessary act of literally unplugging for a bit a bit at the end of the day. It absolutely “saves me” to be in a quiet house with no noise, no tv or phone, low lights and little to no talking. It’s not all evening, but there is usually at least an hour or so when I make this possible. My favorite form of movement is yoga, specifically the Katonah practice. I’m a Vata dosha, so it’s not advisable for me to do lots of high impact activity (I *am* a high impact activity) and this study of yoga helps my body stretch and strengthen, while also cooling my mind. The best advice I think I’ve gotten from someone is from a mentor I had a long time ago. She often reminded me to just “be where my feet are” and that “what was for me, would always be for me” and when I can really practice that, so much energy is freed up to just BE, instead of worrying what else I should be doing or worrying about what other people are doing. It reminds to stay in my lane. And when I do that, beautiful things happen. In Light, Liza Fenster -- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. | EP17 "Wellness Is Beauty" Cindy DiPrima | 21 Apr 2019 | 00:57:14
Happy Spring friends! I’m excited to bring you my conversation with Cindy DiPrima, Co-Founder and Creative Director of CAP beauty and co-author of “High Vibrational Beauty”. Known for her intelligent and elevated approach to style, Cindy has contributed to Harper’s Bazaar, Domino, and Town & Country among other publications and ad campaigns. As two style-obsessed friends, she and Kerrilynn Pamer dreamed of building a store that was as inspiring as it was pure in it’s mission. While sitting with Cindy you can’t help but notice her deep and wise glow. During this insightful chat she shares how their common love for cooking, elevated entertaining and passion for wellness guided her and Kerrilynn to birth their ever inspiring brand. These women have not only defined what we know as “clean beauty”, they’ve brought to light to their community (and the world!) that what we put on our bodies is as important - and of substance - as we what put in it. For the full experience please listen to my interview with Kerrilynn. CINDY’S FAVORITES Cindy what are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials? Green juice. Following a plant-based and food combining diet. Running. Yoga. Phone-free time with my kids (still working on this one! the camera is my weakness!). Cooking for family and friends What’s your favorite workout or form of movement? Yoga is really my go-to. I’ve done lots of types and am now in a phase of loving hot yoga. The heat and sweat are both so therapeutic and really keep me well and my body has never been stronger. I don’t practice Bikram but go to a looser style class at Modo. I also love running and love that this is something I can do with my husband. I’m not fast or distance driven. I just really like the workout. What is your non-negotiable self care ritual or tool? Gravity colonics with Gil Jacobs in NYC. What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or loved one has ever given you? My parents are and were healthy in a very mainstream sort of way, not radical and very respectful of the advice of doctors and Western medicine in general. I veer more to the left of that! But I am very grateful that my parents always questioned the over-use of antibiotics. I was raised not to take them unless absolutely necessary. THAT is advice for the ages. A simple beauty ritual / recipe / tonic you’d like to share with listeners. Bedtime tonic This is a great way to end the day and promotes deep, easy sleep and restoration: 1/2 teaspoon CAP Beauty’s The 10PM 1 to 2 teaspoons CAP’s The Coconut Butter (or more to taste! It’s crazy delicious.) 1 tablespoon Dandy Blend (optional) 6 ounces hot water Splash of homemade nut, seed or oat milk Put all ingredients in a blender and run on high until mixed and frothy. Or put all ingredients your favorite mug and mix with an aero latte. -- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. Coaching registration is open! | EP16 "Beauty Is Wellness" Kerrilynn Pamer | 21 Apr 2019 | 01:01:27
Happy birthday “High Vibrational Beauty”! In honoring this gorgeous holistic lifestyle guide I’m thrilled to share my conversation with Kerrilynn Pamer, it’s co-author, and co-founder and CEO of CAP Beauty. Kerrilynn’s first business, the boutique, Castor & Pollux, was a much-loved fixture in the West Village. In 2010 she introduced her customers to a small selection of naturals and watched the interest and love for this category grow. She decided at that point that New York City (and the world!) needed a store committed to natural beauty. Kerrilynn partnered with her longtime friend and collaborator, the photo stylist Cindy DiPrima Morisse, a perfect match as they had bonded for so long over their interest in healthful living. Kerrilynn and I became friends over Instagram (yes, it’s a thing) and upon meeting felt as though we had met many times before. Her radiance is palpable, she truly walks her talk and is the embodiment of a modern ethereal being. Please listen in on this inspiring conversation from which I walked away vibing high, and listen to my interview with Cindy for the full experience. KERRILYNN’S FAVORITES Kerrilynn what are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials? Spending time with my husband and dogs. Espresso in the morning, The 4 PM blend in the afternoon. Saturday yoga class at Kula. Healthy food in the fridge and cupboards. Daily Kundalini. Daily TM. What’s your Favorite workout or form of movement? I adore the Saturday class at Kula with Jillian Turecki. A favorite moment during the week. What is your non-negotiable self care ritual or tool? I've been exploring the idea of having no "non-negotiables". It was creating a rigidity that I wasn't comfortable with, so these days I'm making efforts to just do what makes me feel good without the "should" wrapped around it. It's working for me. What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or loved one has ever given you? My Dad told me to never give up, and keep moving forward. That's a pretty good one. A simple beauty ritual / recipe / tonic you’d like to share with listeners. The CAP Beauty Matcha mixed with our Coconut Butter, some seed milk that my husband makes (his is the best!), turmeric and some tocotrienols served warm with bee pollen on top. A favorite. -- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. Coaching registration is open! Email me to schedule a FREE intro chat, no registration required. | EP15 "We're All Special" Jill Blakeway | 01 Apr 2019 | 00:38:13
For this week’s episode I had the honor of sitting with Dr. Jill Blakeway to discuss her latest book “Energy Medicine: The Science and Mystery of Healing”. Dr. Blakeway is a licensed and board certified acupuncturist and clinical herbalist. She’s the founder of Yinova, an alternative health clinic in New York City. She is the co-author of Making Babies: A Proven 3-Month Program for Maximum Fertility, and the author of Sex Again: Recharging your Libido. In her new book she seamlessly connects the spiritual aspects and scientific facts of Healing Energy Work, how this tool is accessible to all, and it’s expansive Universal source. This book is written in a beautiful, thorough and honest way, and it is unique in it’s simplicity and warmth. I highly recommend it. During our conversation Dr. Blakeway shares how her turbulent childhood enhanced her sensitivity to this energy, how she eventually found herself in this work, and a few simple techniques with which we can tap into it ourselves. Please listen in and enjoy. ps: This book literally fell off the shelf for me as they say - as I’ve been deep into studying the subject and have recently become certified as a Reiki 1 practitioner - I truly feel as though my teacher appeared. “Energy Medicine: The Science and Mystery of Healing” comes out April 2nd (run, don’t walk to get your copy). You can also find Dr. Blakeway and her incredible team at yinovacenter.com JILL’S FAVORITES Dr. Blakeway what are your “keep my sanity” essentials? Breathing exercises. In my new book, Energy Medicine, I give an example of a breathing exercise that I use when treating patients. As part of my research for the book, I was given an EEG of my brain and an EKG of my heart, and found that they went into resonance with each other when I treated patients. That means that may brain and heart emit the same frequency when I am performing acupuncture. Interestingly, the patient’s heart then goes into resonance with mine. To accomplish this, I take 6 breaths a minute which increases my heart rate variability and allows me to adapt my body so that my energy field can connect with a patients field in a way that allows a transfer of information. This slow regular breathing makes me feel calm and I also do it simply to remain clear and grounded. What's your favorite workout or type of movement? Qi gong is an ancient technique that helps energy flow through the body. It perfectly balances yin and yang and allows qi to flow. It’s the perfect form of exercise for an energy healer. There is also a form of qi gong, called medical qi gong, where a practitioner uses the qi gong exercises to cultivate energy and then transmits the energy generated to a patient. What’s your non-negotiable self-care ritual or tool? I’m British, so I love a cup of tea and find taking time to make and drink tea to be a calming ritual. When I was writing Energy Medicine, I spent a lot of time in Japan, where the ritual surrounding tea is an art form. Slowly sipping green tea from my favorite cup is a daily treat and the way I unwind. What is the best beauty/health/wellness advice a parent or loved one has given you? My mother was an excellent cook and my father was a very good gardener. I used to host a weekly podcast for CBS called Grow Cook Heal that combined my love of growing vegetables, cooking nourishing food and wellness. I got that from my family and I’m grateful. These days my husband Noah and I have a vegetable garden in upstate New York and nothing gives me more pleasure than wandering down to the garden and picking what is ripe and ready to eat and cooking with it. It’s a way of letting the seasons guide my food choices. --- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. Coaching registration is open! Natalie's background includes a BFA in performance from NYU with years of multi-disciplinary movement training including Suzuki, Viewpoints, Grotowski and Committed Impulse. Her Classes are athletic, vigorous, empowering, and suffused with her natural effervescence. She brings her students face-to-face with their own personal challenges; together, they sweat, they dig deep, and they come out energized — discovering how strong they are, mentally and physically. During this intimate conversation we discuss ‘stopping’ as a key to self-care, how a good playlist is a wellness tool, and the importance of shifting to a state of conscious awareness in order to return to oneself. NATALIE’S FAVORITES: Natalie what are your “keep my sanity” essentials? I have developed a ritual for myself that transitions me out of work and into my personal space - both physically and otherwise. When I leave the office, I use the subway ride to finish up any last text, Slack, or email. Once I'm off the subway, I put my earbuds on, turn on a playlist that is specifically created to welcoming in a softer, more receptive me into being, and when I step into my apartment, I switch the music to the apartment speakers. I light a trillion candles, take a shower, and somewhere between the playlist, the candles, and the shower, I'm back in my feminine, receptive, soft, soothed self. What’s your favorite workout or form of movement? Well, I suppose it's no surprise that The Class by Taryn Toomey is my favorite. I live it and breathe it. It is my vocation. My sanity essentials vary depending on how much time I have. But on a good day, I wake up early and meditate for 20-minutes (I’m a vedic meditator and have been trained with a specific vedic mantra). I follow that up with a kundalini practice. After meditation, I move my body (usually a mix of yoga, pilates, HIIT and spin). I find healthy movement to be so instrumental for me in processing emotion. I meditate again at 4pm for another 20 minutes. I usually end the day with a candle and quiet with an early bedtime to boot. Honestly, nothing says self care and sanity to me like going to bed at 9:30pm :) On a crazy day it looks like a whole lot less. Meditation is my non-negotiable so I always start my day with 20 minutes and do my second sitting in the afternoon—sometimes later than I'd like. And on these more condensed days, I will take 5-minutes and do something that brings me joy. Even if it’s just reading a magazine, coloring or watching Friends, I have to have that in there to stay sane. What’s your favorite workout? Ahh, so many. I love me some high intensity (for my high intensity Scorpio personality) and I used to be a spin teacher. My workouts are a mix of HIIT, spin, hot yoga and pilates. What is your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Meditation. That is the one thing I cannot do without. Take away all my powders, adaptogens and practices, but me and meditation are for life. What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or family member has given you? I was born with a lot of fire and energy and I have a tendency to push myself really hard. My mom is super chill and used to tell me ALL THE TIME in high school that I should take "mental health days." I used to roll my eyes and be so annoyed at the suggestion of missing school (I was such a goodie goodie) but nowadays, I take them regularly. We need them. We need the opportunity to pause, recharge and reevaluate. Nothing can come through when we are heads down and pushing all the time. --- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. Coaching registration is open! What’s your favorite workout? Favorite workouts are boxing and The Class by Taryn Toomey. I do them both multiple times a week. Your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Being at peace with myself and others. It's the greatest routine in the world. Clear, healthy thoughts and choosing peace over suffering as often as I can. But that's probably not the answer you were expecting ;), so....self care where I don't negotiate: vitamins, evening routine that winds me down for the day -- give me an Image Skincare sheet mask every night of my life and I'm a happy camper (have you tried them?!) and some Tammy Fender lavender oil. I'm digging dry brushing and using a gua sha to release tension in my face and jaw! AND...SLEEP. I don't short change myself there. And finally what is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or family member has given you? Sleep and water do wonders. | EP6 "Light On The Shadows" Amina AlTai | 07 Jan 2018 | 00:40:50
Meet my dear friend Amina AlTai, 33 years young in this lifetime, with an ancient and wise soul. Our paths crossed again following a brief disconnect, and I'm ecstatic I get to see her lovely visage regularly during our coaching sessions (Amina is MY wellness and business coach... yes.. wellness coaches get coached too :) Please read below for our .LIVE Journal Q+A, and listen in as we discuss shedding light on your shadows, how what you hide owns you, and the direct link between nutrition and career performance. p.s If you're loving our podcasts, Arden and I would love you even more if you leave us a review :) Hi Amina! How would you define your occupation? Nourishment Expert, Healthy Business Coach. What's your nationality / background? Half Welsh, Half Iraqi. What were you favorite and least favorite foods mom cooked for you as a child? Favorite: Bamya... It's an Arab dish made with okra and lamb in a tomato sauce. That was my jam! Least favorite food: Anything with raisins. Why not just eat grapes?! I seriously didn't get them and used to tell my mom they "gave me a headache" so she wouldn't make me eat them. What is your favorite healthy home-made recipe? I eat pretty simply at home and I'm a creature of habit so I like to make things I can eat for a few days at a time. This time of year I like lots of soups and broths so I'm really into Red Lentil Bolognese. It's gluten free, vegan and super delish (in my humble opinion) Ingredients 1 cup red lentils 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped 2 cloves of garlic 1/2 onion, chopped 1 carrot, shredded 4 celery stalks, diced 1 cup veggie broth 4 tbs sundried tomato powder (or tomato paste) 1 tbs oregano 1 tsp fennel seeds 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp chipotle powder Salt & pepper to taste Instructions Sauté onions, garlic, celery, carrots and tomatoes in 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat until tender, about 5-10 minutes. Add veggie broth to pan along with lentils and remaining spices. Continue to cook over medium heat until lentils are soft, about 30-45 minutes. You may serve this dish over spaghetti squash, quinoa, brown rice or on its own. What are your "keep my sanity"’ essentials? I have at least 4 baths a week—they are so key to my sanity! I'm also a Vedic meditator which really really helps in this busy city. Also, working out 4-5 times a week is my sweet spot and those are major stress busters for me! What was your favorite bonding activity you did with your mom as a child? We used to go on Sunday family hikes and those were always the best. I loved being out in nature with my parents and just running free. Great times. What has been the best beauty / health / wellness advice your mother has given you? Always wear sunscreen! I have much more melanin than my Welsh mom—but I'm not immune to sun damage. So, protecting my skin with hats, good quality sunscreen and a great skin care routine are clutch. What is your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Sleep is everything to me. With two autoimmune diseases I try hard not to mess with it. It's so key not only for a well-functioning brain but in my case it really impacts my digestion. --- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. | EP3 "Glowing Skin" Arden and Paola | 27 Sep 2017 | 00:38:08
As my next "Glowing Skin Cleanse" session fast approaches (2 1/2 weeks guys!) I sit with Arden to explain the benefits of cleansing, why Fall is the best season to do so, and how this particular program can benefit if you're looking for a gentle yet thorough approach. A few highlights: * Fall is a transitional season, taking us from the heat and energy of the Summer, into the cold and slow Winter months. It's good to get rid of the sludge we have accumulated (and all those glasses of Rose) before we feel like hibernating - and let that stuff literally stick to our system. * My program is a step by step guide, gentle yet deep. I give you the tools and set up for a long term beauty and wellness routine. Best of all I will be your partner, going through the process with you. * You can lead your day to day during the program. No need to seclude yourself for the three weeks, this works around busy schedules. I will give you ways to create moments throughout the day, to take time for yourself without feeling selfish or guilty. Please listen in. As a dancer, yoga teacher, and founder of The Floss — a method of “stretching” designed to internally exfoliate connective tissue — her love and enthusiasm for mindful movement is positively infectious. Her life path is purposed in a deep study and curiosity for the miraculous human form and a devotion to sharing her wisdom while supporting others in their healing journeys. With a unique teaching style described by Columbia Business School as “wisdom and whimsy” Bonnie makes what would normally feel overwhelming in terms of the vast knowledge about the human body completely accessible and empowering for her students. Many of her students have discovered Bonnie and Flossing through her brand collaborations & in person events, magazine and digital publications, and in classes and workshops held at Skyting, and online at The Floss. | EP103 "How Acupuncture Can Balance Your Emotions" Margarita Russolello | 16 Feb 2024 | 00:45:38
I've known Margarita for few years, and have always been mesmerized by her energy. Her approach to healing and wellbeing is unique and authentic, painted by her inner wisdom and experience, and the knowledge of the lineages she's studied. You can literally see it in her eyes. During our beautiful conversation we discussed the deeper layers of the body and how to move energy within, the beauty of leading a practice with compassion, and how our own trauma can be transmuted and used for collective service. --- Dr. Margarita Russolello (she/her) is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Teacher, Herbalist, Breathwork Facilitator, and Energy Medicine Master Teacher. She has spent the last decade of her life studying integrative medicine and holistic healing to help her clients live extraordinary, purposeful, and balanced lives in body, mind, and spirit. She is a trauma-informed provider who prides herself in providing radical empathy, holistic medical care, and spiritual enlightenment tools to merge Eastern and Western modalities and create a bridge between science and spirit. She has worked with celebrities, corporate executives, Olympic athletes, and ordinary humans in healing complex trauma, redefining success, overcoming limiting beliefs, and creating a life rooted in love and collective liberation. Her approach is heart-open, psychosomatic, embodied, and courageous in helping her clients expand to their fullest potential. Margarita, what is your non-negotiable self care routine or habit? I am a Taurus, a Human Design Projector, and an introvert, which means I honor my need for lots of down time to recharge between sessions and events. I plan my schedule so that I am most active and social during my follicular and ovulatory phases, and allow myself to move more slowly and internally during my luteal and menstrual phases. I engage in regular therapy, yoga, meditation, and EMDR to balance my nervous system, and am honest about my needs and boundaries with clients and community.

| EP100 "Simple Ways To Become Mindful" Becca Peters | 30 Jan 2024 | 00:47:53 | |
Wow, episode 100!!! I'm so proud of each and every single one of these conversations. A huge thank you to all of you generous souls, for sharing and for listening. To honor this milestone I share with you a tender and heart centered moment between friends. I first met Becca last summer, and was immediately captivated by her calming presence, glowing smile and kind eyes. She’s pure Mother energy, with a grounded gentleness you just want to be around. I’ve had the honor of not only having her as a friend, but also a student. In this episode we discuss the true meaning of mindfulness, what it means to lead with a “soft heart”, the magic of observing pain as a portal for connection, and how to integrate compassion into all our actions. Becca Peters is a psychotherapist who has developed a decades long spiritual practice of supporting women who feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected from the essence of joy, or simply longing to feel more vital and more connected to their heart with a deepened sense of purpose. She draws not only from her expertise in working with children, women, and families in her private practice grounded in attachment theory and internal family systems, but also from evidenced based self-compassion and mindfulness modalities of which she teaches for Stanford, UCLA and UCSD. You can find Becca on her website BeccaPeters.com --- For delicious recipes and self-care tips subscribe to my FREE newsletter. Coaching registration is open!
