Going through menopause with a disability, with Emma Livingstone
Saison 5 · Épisode 5
mardi 11 juillet 2023 • Durée 30:25
Too often women living with disability are left out of the menopause and midlife women's health conversations, and as a result put their symptoms down to pre existing health conditions, not realising that they could be entering perimenopause or menopause.
In this episode, I’ll be talking to Emma Livingstone about navigating the menopause with a disability. Emma Livingstone was born with cerebral palsy and had to give up work having seen a significant decline in her mobility in recent years, leading to several surgeries. It was her frustration at the lack of knowledge and understanding of cerebral palsy as a disability affecting adults that spurred her on to begin campaigning. And she founded Up, the adult cerebral palsy movement, to campaign for better support and services and give a voice to the adult cerebral palsy community.
In this episode:
01:46 Why Emma founded Up 08:09 The impact of aging on Emma’s health 12:56 Experiences of the CP community with menopause 21:48 Untangling diagnoses 25:43 Recognising CP as an adult condition

He is quite simply an inspiration in the world of women's health. And for regulars of the Latte Lounge, you'll also know that I'm lucky enough to call this wonderful man, my dad, and he's part of the reason I created the Latte Lounge. In this episode we're going to be exploring breast cancer and midlife and just how common it is looking at the latest treatment options, and how menopausal symptoms can impact recovery.
