| Tim Kell, T.Kell Knives: The Knife Junkie Podcast (Episode 528) | 18 Aug 2024 | ||
Tim Kell of T.Kell Knives joins Bob "The Knife Junkie" DeMarco on Episode 528 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/528). Tim served in the USMC and is a lifelong American patriot with a passion for practical, durable, and functional-edged tools. As a function-first kind of guy, Tim only buys tools that are best in their class for durability and multiple uses, and his knife designs are based on the same uncompromising philosophy of use. Tim has numerous collaborations with the likes of Steve Tarani, Frogman Tactical, and Prime Combat Training (by IDF Operator Imri Morgenstern), as well as YouTubers like Jared Neeve, Tomas Alas, and The Knife Junkie. T.Kell knives are tested in the hands of professional users and are sent to work and play in some of the harshest environments: police cars, war/hell, backwoods, protective detail, blue collar trades, and offices. T.Kell Knives are guaranteed for life, regardless of ownership, “even if you’re doing stupid things with them.” They also include lifetime sharpening. The Agent Series of knives was inspired by a design The Knife Junkie came to Tim with: a small double-edged fighter with an ergonomic grip. The Agent Series handle was tweaked to perfection and has now become the platform for all the Agent knives that come after it. With all of their success, T.Kell Knives has moved into a larger space for manufacturing and uses the services of other American companies to bring their knives to market. | Zac Wingard, Wingard Wearables: The Knife Junkie Podcast (Episode 519) | 14 Jul 2024 | 01:05:06
Zac Wingard of Wingard Wearables joins Bob "The Knife Junkie" DeMarco on Episode 519 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/519). Wingard Wearables creates EDC items out of weapons not thought of for everyday carry, like tomahawks, spears, war clubs, and an implement called the "Quill." And Zac has always been passionate about historical-edged weapons, with a special love for tomahawks. One thing that many current-day tomahawk makers get wrong (and that Wingard focuses on getting right) is weight. Unlike axes and hatchets, tomahawks are meant to be very light and nimble in the hand, and easy to throw. Each Wingard Wearable is made in America by skilled blacksmiths and bladesmiths, and numerous small businesses across three states. Like the name implies, Wingard Wearable tomahawks, pikes, and quills are intended to be worn close to the body and come with kydex sheaths for the sharp and pointy parts. These tomahawks and other implements are not just weapons but also intended for utility use. The Thumper is a wearable bludgeon designed around the Iroquois war club. These are made by Zac entirely in-house. And the new Wingard Wearables Dickpik Magnum is a full-sized spike with all of the utility of the DP with added dagger-like reach and penetration. The newest Wingard Wearables tomahawk is called the Sparrowhawk, and unlike the others in the WW lineup, it is full-tang and ready for rough duty. And Wingard Wearables now offers a unique EDC fixed blade knife called the Love Handle, known for its tusk-like shape and under-the-belly carry profile. 2024 also marked the first year Wingard Wearables presented their wares at Blade Show, with a killer booth setup in the Baller Room. Find Wingard Wearables online at https://www.wingardwearables.com, on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/wingard_wearables, and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/wingardwearables. John Roy of Dawson Knives joins Bob "The Knife Junkie" DeMarco on Episode 513 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/513). Dawson Knives began 50 years ago in a dilapidated barn, using machinery cobbled together with parts from the local landfill. He currently oversees operations at Dawson Knives. Dawson Knives also makes rare and one-of-a-kind pieces, like Damascus bowies and European and Asian-inspired swords, created by Dennis Cook. For the 500th episode of The Knife Junkie Podcast, Bob "The Knife Junkie" DeMarco pulls back the curtain and releases three never-before-heard interviews with knife world legends: Bob Terzuola, Michael Janich, and Lynn Thompson. These interviews were previously Knife Junkie Patron member-only content. Bob Terzuola, "Godfather of the Tactical Folder," was featured on Episode 479 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/479). Terzuola's most popular model is the ATCF (Advanced Technology Combat Folder), a linerlock folding knife. He also wrote the definitive book on making tactical folders called "The Tactical Folding Knife," which was most recently updated in 2019. He has collaborated with other knifemakers and production companies, including Spyderco, Strider Knives, WE/Civivi, Microtech Knives, and others. Michael Janich, Close Combatives Instructor/Expert and Special Projects Coordinator for Spyderco, was the guest on Episode 481 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/481). Janich has studied and taught self-defense and the martial arts for more than 40 years. He is one of the foremost modern authorities on handgun point shooting and is also a prolific knife designer who has designed production knives for Spyderco, Masters of Defense, BlackHawk Blades, Combat Elite, and Max Knives, and custom knives for several world-renowned makers. Lynn Thompson, Cold Steel founder and former president, joined Bob on Episode 434 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/434). In addition to being the founder and public-facing president of Cold Steel, he is a martial artist, hunter, survivalist, shooter, and master at arms. In 1980, Thompson founded Cold Steel with the mission to bring the “world’s strongest, sharpest knives” to market. After 40+ years of innovating in the edge weapons field, Thompson embarked on a new chapter, selling the company to GSM and carefully ensuring it was in good hands with Keith Beam. | Volwest, Stati9n: The Knife Junkie Podcast (Episode 496) | 14 Apr 2024
Volwest from Stati9n joins Bob "The Knife Junkie" DeMarco on Episode 496 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/496). Stati9n specializes in the development of unconventional tools and weapons for combatives and survival in austere environments and occupied zones. Inspired by the secret British WW2 organization S.O.E. ("Special Operations Executive"), whose purpose was to conduct espionage, sabotage, and reconnaissance in Axis-occupied Europe and Southeast Asia. Stati9n is also inspired by the weapons used by armies with limited resources during WW1, when butcher knives and other common household tools were modified for brutal trench warfare. Famous French knife maker and close combat specialist, Fred Perrin, collaborated with Stati9n in creating the Number Five Scorpion, a curved, double-edged self-protection knife designed around Perrin's signature forefinger retention hole. The company's offerings range from weapons for close quarters fighting to discreet but useful tools for minimalist urban and outback survival. Though knives are Stati9n's specialty, they also make other defensive tools, like a knuckle duster inspired by Austro-Hungarian knuckles from WW1; a non-metallic push dagger made of G10; and faux chopsticks, also made of G10, to give the owner something robust and stabby in non-permissive environments. | Geri and Matt Willey, Willey Knives: The Knife Junkie Podcast (Episode 530) | 25 Aug 2024
Geri and Matt Willey of Willey Knives join Bob "The Knife Junkie" DeMarco on Episode 530 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (https://theknifejunkie.com/530). As a farm boy in Greenwood, Delaware, founder Gerald Willey loved knives so much that at age 10, he made his first knife. In 1970, after serving in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Vietnam War, Gerald turned his knife-making hobby into a business. Gerald Willey's first knife-making shop was in a small room built onto his shed, but in 1975, the family built a new house with a basement designed to be a knife store and knife making/sharpening shop. After many long nights, hard work, and help from the family, Gerald's dream became one of the most successful independent mom-and-pop cutlery stores of its kind. Gerald and his wife Silvia passed away within a year of one another after 58 years of marriage. Though they are greatly missed, Willey Knives continues to grow under the ownership of son Matt, who runs the sharpening business, and Geri, who runs the store. Willey Knives throws knife-themed events at their idyllic location, including a "Hammer In" with forging demonstrations and events with knife world luminaries like CJ Buck of Buck Knives, in October 2024. In addition to the store, which sells over 40 top knife brands, Willey Knives offers knife sharpening services to the general public and a comprehensive knife rental program to restaurants across the region.
