Today we are joined by Molly, a Welsh women’s health and youth voice advocate focusing on breaking shame and stigmas around our bodies, and enabling difficult conversations.

After a childhood ruled by a Brain Tumour she documents her life with illness whilst campaigning on a government level and telling the world about her experiences, from the TEDx stage to the United Nations!

#101 Reflecting on My University Journey & Transitioning from the Student Identity | Highlights, Challenges & Uncertain Next Steps21 Nov 202400:33:26

As my master's journey concludes, it feels surreal to witness the culmination of countless hours of dedication. This academic pursuit has been central to my life, shaping my routines and lifestyle, making it bittersweet to transition away from something so integral to my identity.

This journey has been both rewarding and challenging. I've learned, grown, and formed amazing relationships, realised my true capabilities and discovered areas that align with my fundamental values - potential avenues I can leverage in the future. However, my perfectionism and drive have also led to moments of self-doubt and burnout. While these traits are often seen positively, they have pushed me to the edge at times.

Beyond academics, this journey has been deeply personal. Academic theories and concepts have mirrored my own path, offering a lens through which I could see my growth and gain clarity.

Beyond academics, this journey has been personal, almost cathartic. The theories and concepts I've studied have not just been subjects to memorise for exams -  they've resonated with my own experiences and challenges. They reflect my personal journey, and offer a lens through which I could view my own growth, allowing me to gain clarity and uncover a deeper understanding of myself.

But now, it's time for a much-needed pause. I’m allowing myself to breathe, reassess, and reconnect with myself. For too long, I've equated my worth with productivity, accomplishments, how many tasks I’ve ticked off, and how many hours of work I’ve been able to cram in. I need to redefine success and embrace balance, remembering that my value isn't tied to academic achievements.

Overall, this journey has been intense and transformative. While I've loved it, I now realise the need for distance. I'm grateful for the experiences and insights gained, and I'm ready to just be Lara, open to whatever comes next.

#11 How To Be Body Confident03 Sep 202000:38:54

In such an image based society, nowadays, in the 21st century, the number of individuals feeling negatively about their bodies is a scarily quickly rising statistic.

I discuss exhausting continual comparison, unrealistic expectations and negative influences of social media. How it's vital to take control of what content we're absorbing - ensuring it provides a sense of empowerment, rather than solely encourages you to question your value and worth.

I discuss an abundance of topics and advice as to how to build a healthy, mindful and positive relationship with your body - ranging from removing the scales, rewarding your body, eliminating habitual toxic behaviour towards yourself and overall being kinder to yourself. Finding a balance with exercise - ensuring your implementing fitness into your routine to celebrate your body rather than punishing it. Focusing on your bodies abilities and practising a little gratitude towards it's functions.

And most importantly, I talk about the importance of evolving that inner dialogue - transforming it from chronic self criticism to a positive, authentic and considerate mentality.

#10 Social Media - Algorithms, Demonitization, Falseness & Toxicity | Heidi Jane26 Aug 202000:44:27

Heidi Jane and I talk all things social media - the good, the bad and the ugly.

We discuss exhausting pyramid schemes, brand collaborations and demonitzation.

How authenticity has seemingly vanished, as creators focus more so on posting solely to adhere to the static algorithm - chasing numerical gratification rather than pursuing the creation of inspirational, positive and uplifting content - insecurity perhaps?

Hopefully, this 'no filter' episode will open your eyes and enlighten you about the reality of your favourite 'influencer' and how their seemingly perfect life is quite frankly, only for the screen.

#9 FITNESS JOURNEY | Doubling My Weight, Gym Confidence & Mental Growth19 Aug 202000:51:15

Welcome back to another solo episode! Today I'm discussing the complex and intricate process of my fitness journey. How I went from being bed bound, to running half marathons, to now strength training... and how beneficial maintaining a level of consistency within my fitness routine has been for my mental health, self confidence, social confidence and overall my sense of value and purpose.

Embarking on this massive lifestyle transformation has allowed me to develop a far more positive and healthy relationship with my body - due to embracing my bodies abilities and strengths, and totally eliminating scales from my life. Learning to respect and celebrate my body, rather than abusing it.

Additionally, I discuss the countless incredible opportunities which has come as a result, and why I have now decided to totally changed my degree and future career path.

Attending the gym, keeping fit, setting goals, involving myself with like-minded, motivated individuals has been the key to not only my physical recovery and progression, but also my mental growth, sense of self, identity and has ultimately become such a valuable and healthy coping mechanism  - which I hope I am able to explain and justify within this episode.

#8 Weight Obsession, Life Regrets, Fitness Progression & How to Be Confident | Q & A07 Aug 202000:26:42

Welcome back to another episode! Today, we're going solo.

Just a simple, classic Q and A, where I discuss weight gain and the emotional effect of having to buy bigger clothing, adjusting my mindset to prevent myself from seeing numbers as defining digits to represent my worth, and also my advice on binge eating recovery.

I also chat about how to transform negative life experiences to lessons and avenues for unexpected, yet beneficial growth and maturity.

Confidence is also a key topic in this episode, discussing the importance of prioritising yourself, rather than focusing on others' judgements or perceptions.

I am joined by Josceline (@HoneyAreYouHappy), a psychology graduate who has worked with countless mental health and eating disorder charities to raise awareness, due to her previous experiences of mental health conditions, including anorexia.

In this episode, our conversation focuses highly on the brutal and traumatic reality of living with an eating disorder, discussing the exhausting misconceptions and stigmas attached, the development of anger, frustration and anxiety triggered by the recovery process and it’s detrimental effect of familial relationships.

We discuss the true severity and addition of the disorder. How life can become very dark, emotional, seemingly valuless and the process of losing your identity to the anorexia.

We raise the topic of re-feeding, experiences of hospitalisation and having to face these overwhelming phobias of food. Josceline spent a prolonged period of time as an inpatient, unlike myself, therefore it was massively insightful and educational to hear about her difficult and complex time as an inpatient.

#99 Discovering Your Worth & Finding Wholeness Within: Self-First for Fulfilling Relationships | Daria Ermolenko29 Oct 202400:52:34

Daria Ermolenko is a Relationship and Time-management Coach. With an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology from the University of East London, Daria runs her own coaching practice. She works with clients 1:1 to create meaningful change in their lives.

Daria helps people break free from the limiting beliefs society imposes about what relationships 'should' look like, empowering them to create deeper, more meaningful connections.

In today's episode, we ’ll be diving into a discussion on how to move beyond mediocre, mundane relationships and instead, build ones that are truly fulfilling and flourishing.

We start by exploring the inner work required to establish healthy relationships. It all begins with knowing what you deserve and cultivating a strong relationship with yourself. You can't create genuine connections with others until you’re whole and fulfilled as an individual, comfortable in your own skin, and confident in your worth.

This means recognising your own inherent value, meeting your own needs, and finding contentment in being alone - without relying on someone else to fill any emotional voids. As when you reach this place of self-assurance, your relationships will be driven by true connection, desire, and passion, rather than a need for external validation.

From there, Daria shares her insights on how to move past the 'baseline' and seek relationships that truly align with your values and potential. We’ll discuss recognising red flags, having the courage to stand up for what you deserve, and the importance of communication and honesty - ensuring you're able to vocalise your needs and desires without fear. Authenticity also plays a role here -  showing up as your true self, wholeheartedly, without wearing a facade to fit someone else's expectations. Only then can you cultivate the kind of relationship that helps you flourish, rooted in mutual respect and true connection.

#98 Addressing the Psychological Roots of Eating Disorders & Overcoming Body Image Challenges | Thomas Midgley16 Oct 202400:46:48

Today, I'm joined by Thomas, a Behavioural and Cognitive and Compassion focused Psychotherapist as well as a Highly Specialised Eating Disorders Dietitian.

For over 20 years Thomas has been working in the NHS and/or Private sector with both adolescents and adults in the fields of Eating Disorders, Personality Disorder, body dysmorphic disorder and Complex Trauma.

We explore how long-term, sustainable recovery requires looking beyond just the physical symptoms like weight gain and BMI restoration. True recovery involves addressing the underlying psychological factors—something that often gets overlooked. Together, we’ll discuss the importance of understanding the embedded beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and triggers that need to be considered for a more holistic approach to recovery.

Tom offers his insights into the complexity of body image, explaining how it's shaped by a web of interrelated factors. For many, body image is dominated by an inescapable inner critic—constantly reinforced by toxic cultural messages that equate self-worth with appearance. These external pressures only magnify the struggle. So, we discuss the importance of untangling these deeply ingrained thought patterns and gaining clarity on the underlying motives driving them. Tom stresses the need for a personalised approach—working with patients in a way that aligns with their unique values and beliefs. This tailored strategy not only helps them gain insight into their thought processes but also equips them with the skills and resources needed to cope more effectively and sustain long-term recovery.

We examine the characteristics often associated with eating disorders—such as perfectionism, unrelenting standards, and a drive for achievement. These traits can exacerbate disordered eating tendencies in the pursuit of validation and self-worth.

But as Tom points out, the goal isn't to eliminate these traits; it’s to leverage them in a healthier way. These same traits, when redirected, can fuel recovery. This is something I relate to personally - my determination and stubbornness took me to a dark place with my anorexia, but they were also the very traits that powered my recovery. We talk about how to channel that energy into something positive and constructive, transforming what once fueled the disorder into a source of strength.

#97 The Transformative Power of Running: Celebrating Progress, Finding Balance & Building a Community30 Sep 202400:46:51

Today we’re joined by Sam, a friend and enthusiastic runner.

Once overweight and unhappy, he turned his life around through sustainable lifestyle changes, discovering the joy of running. Now, he’s not only achieved an incredible physical transformation, hitting personal bests and smashing records, but also a profound psychological shift.

So today, we dive into all things running - our personal journeys, insights, goals, ambitions, advice, and memorable race experiences.

We talk of the community essence of running. How it’s about embedding yourself in a group of like-minded people who share your passions and values. It’s an opportunity to build friendships, find your people, and nourish your true self. When you surround yourself with a community that aligns with your principles, life feels more fulfilling, more authentic

We’ll also touch on the challenges many runners face, like getting caught up in the numbers — comparing paces, focusing on race results, and feeling the weight of expectations. But rather than fixating on the statistics, we need to take a step back and recognize how far we’ve come, the barriers we’ve overcome, and practise a little more self-compassion. Of course, it’s great to have challenges, to set goals, and to push ourselves, but running is about so much more than hitting personal bests. It’s about being present in the experience, soaking up the atmosphere, and smiling through the process

#96 Finding Fulfilment: Value-Aligned Living & Connecting with Your True Self | Saskia Fehr18 Sep 202400:49:15

Today, we’re joined by a special guest, Saskia, a Positive Psychologist who is deeply passionate about helping individuals connect with their true selves.

In this episode, we dive into the powerful concept of values—those fundamental principles that act as a compass, guiding our daily behaviours, decisions, and overall life trajectory.

Values are more than just ideals; they are the driving force behind our actions and, when aligned with our lives, can lead to a profound sense of fulfilment and purpose.

Saskia shares her insights on how we can identify these core values through introspection and self-awareness, and why it’s crucial to live in harmony with them.

But in today’s fast-paced world, filled with endless distractions, staying connected to our values can be challenging… the constant barrage of digital noise and the pressures of modern life can pull us away from our true selves. So, Saskia emphasises the importance of creating intentional moments to pause, breathe, and disconnect from the digital world. By doing so, we can not only enhance our mental clarity and sense of balance but also reinforce our commitment to value-aligned living.

Through this conversation, we hope to provide you with practical insights and inspiration on how to cultivate a life that is deeply rooted in your values. #95 Running for Fulfilment: Tips for a Positive and Balanced Mindset | Jordan Foster04 Sep 202400:53:21

Today I’m joined by Jordan Foster, head coach at Coopah Run Coach, mum to Gracie and a keen runner.

In our discussion, Jordan provides insight on her incredible journey through the world of running — from overcoming early hurdles of overtraining and burnout, to participating in numerous marathons, and now ultimately finding balance and a healthy approach to the sport.

We discuss how running should be integrated into your lifestyle in a way that enhances your well-being. Often, with self imposed and external pressures, running can sometimes lead to feelings of stress and overwhelm. That's why we emphasise the importance of ensuring that running remains a positive and fulfilling part of your life - something that nourishes you rather than depletes you.

Throughout our conversation, we address common challenges runners face, such as pre-race anxiety and the pressure to meet specific goals. Jordan introduces practical strategies to alleviate stress and underscores the importance of not comparing yourself to others - recognising that every runner has a unique journey, but in the end, we're all heading towards the same finish line, and we should focus on enjoyment, immersing yourself in the race day atmosphere, and fully experience the moment.

Finally, Jordan offers valuable advice for upcoming races, encouraging runners to reflect on their training, celebrate milestones, and approach race day with a positive mindset. She reminds us that race day is not just about competition - it's a victory lap, a celebration of the hard work and dedication that has brought you to this moment.

#94 Self-Care & Healthy Routines: Crafting a Balanced Lifestyle For Mental Wellbeing | Louis Watkins14 Aug 202400:37:53

Today, I’m joined by Louis, the founder of Clear For Men - a skincare brand dedicated to raising awareness about mental health.

Louis’s journey to creating Clear For Men began during the lockdown when he found himself grappling with burnout, feeling lost, and lacking direction. His skincare routine became a crucial way to switch off and be present, which ultimately inspired him to create Clear For Men - to encourage men to “Take Five” and prioritise their mental well-being.

In today’s conversation, we discuss the value in normalising conversations circulating mental health and the importance of speaking up in times of distress. Rather than suppressing emotions, hiding away, or isolating ourselves, there’s is immense power in embracing vulnerability, seeking support and being proactive in managing mental health.

We also touch on the human tendency to focus on what we haven’t accomplished, often engaging in negative self-talk and comparing ourselves to others. It’s easy to get stuck in that rut, but in these moments, it’s essential to revisit our values, ensure we’re aligned with what nourishes us rather than what depletes us, and give ourselves credit for our achievements and the obstacles we’ve overcome.

Moreover, we discuss the significance of incorporating regular self-care practices and non-productivity-oriented mindful moments. These habits are vital for maintaining a balanced, flourishing life, and should be embedded and sprinkled into our daily routines to prevent overwhelm and burnout.

#93 Embracing Neurodivergence: Turning Challenges Into Strengths | Beth Thomas23 Jul 202400:45:05

Today, I’m joined by Beth, a certified ADHD Life Coach who brings a wealth of personal lived experience as a neurodivergent individual, and has dedicated her career to helping others understand and harness the unique strengths of their neurodivergent minds.

In this episode, we discuss common challenges associated with neurodivergent brains, and how, by working through a strength-affirming perspective, we can reinterpret what we often perceive as challenges into strengths.

We also discuss the link between neurodivergence and mental health. Neurodivergent individuals often face a world that doesn’t fully embrace differences, with societal norms and barriers reaffirming limiting beliefs - which can amalgamate into significant mental health challenges.

Thus, Beth emphasises that difference does not mean deficit, highlighting the need to change societal perceptions. By dismantling these barriers, altering society’s problematic concept of ‘normal’ and fostering inclusive, psychologically safe cultures, we can promote authentic living and improve mental health for neurodivergent individuals.

Beth then details the process of identifying and reframing limiting beliefs, sharing techniques for recognizing, acknowledging, and reframing these beliefs. Throughout she stresses the importance of acceptance and self-compassion as core elements of the journey - in turn  maximising neurodivergent strengths, and helping individuals leverage their unique skills for a more fulfilling life.

#92 Rebuilding Identity After an Eating Disorder: Embracing a New Lifestyle for Lasting Recovery | Michelle Knowles01 Jul 202400:52:50

Today, I am joined by Michelle, an occupational therapist, to delve into the transformative role of OT in eating disorder recovery. Unlike other therapies that may focus on uncovering past triggers, occupational therapy is proactive, practical, and solution-oriented, grounded in the present moment.

In our discussion, we explore how recovery isn't just about healing the body or addressing thoughts; it's about rediscovering and rebuilding your identity.

When struggling with ED,  maladaptive behaviours can become so ingrained that they feel like an integral part of who you are. So, recovery involves unlearning a life centred around disordered behaviours and reconstructing a healthier identity and lifestyle. This the slow and steady process of rediscovery, uncovering new routines, finding new sources of joy and fulfilment, reconnecting with old passions, or discovering new interests that were overshadowed by the eating disorder is key for a holistic recovery.

Additionally, we discuss the importance of reintegrating yourself into relationships. It's about ensuring the people around you see you for who you are today, support your recovery journey, and are willing to shift and grow with you.

Throughout this episode, we revisit the concept of living in alignment with your values, detailing how maintaining authenticity and living in accordance with your fundamental principles can lead to a meaningful, purposeful, and authentic life and sustainable, successful recovery.

#90 7 Steps To Happiness: Acceptance, Living an Aligned Life & Redefining Your Narrative | Rob Hosking03 Jun 202400:57:02

In today's episode, we have the privilege of sitting down with Rob Hoskins, a former police officer turned keynote speaker, TEDx speaker, and passionate advocate for mental health - to  delve into inspiring stories of resilience, growth, and the pursuit of happiness.

Rob's journey began in the intense and demanding world of law enforcement. As a police officer, his primary focus was on protecting communities and others, often neglecting his own mental well-being in the process. The constant exposure to stress, negativity, and traumatic incidents took its toll, leaving him emotionally drained and psychologically exhausted.

One of the biggest challenges Rob faced was the pressure to conform to the identity imposed by his uniform and role. This barrier inhibited vulnerability and prevented open discussions about mental health. The fear of judgement and the stigma surrounding masculinity made it difficult for him to seek help or even acknowledge his struggles.

However, Rob's journey took a transformative turn as he embraced the importance of mental health and happiness. He now advocates for openness and encourages others to choose happiness.

So, in our conversation, we explore the seven steps of happiness… discussing concepts of acceptance, self-awareness, aligning one's life with their fundamental beliefs, and surrounding oneself with a supportive social circle, whilst reinforcing that happiness is not merely a destination - but a journey of self-discovery and growth

"To cut a colourful story short, I have felt lost, I have thrived, I have grieved, I have made more than my fair share of mistakes.  I have been in some incredibly low lows yet also reached some brilliant high highs.  My life is in no way perfect and I don't believe it ever will be.  However I am happy in the knowledge that I live every day the best that I can, drawing on all my past and present experience.
From a young age sport has always been a constant in my life, whether playing, coaching or supporting.  I believe there is so much sport can give us, not just the physical and physiological benefits.  Sport challenges us, makes us problem solve, learn the benefits and growth from winning and losing.  It enables us to create relationships that stretch far beyond the sporting arena.

My employment history has been, well, let's say varied.  From the early years of hospitality across Europe, to bushcraft and survival skills, to setting up and running my businesses I feel I have learnt a heck of a lot along the way.  You know what? I've set up businesses that have thrived.  I've also set up businesses that really haven't!  It's all part of the jigsaw puzzle that will keep on needing to be taken apart and built back up again!"

#88 Behind the Uniform: Mental Illness in the Police Force, Embracing Recovery, and Investing in Self | Alex Dawson06 May 202400:50:37

Today I'm joined by Alex, a former police officer, who courageously shares his journey through mental ill health.

Alex opens up candidly about his struggles with mental health, feeling lost, like a burden, and experiencing extreme lows, including contemplating taking his own life.

He attributes much of this struggle to the accumulated stressors and traumas witnessed while working in the police force. Due to the culture of silence within the service, Alex didn't feel comfortable speaking up or seeking help, fearing it would expose perceived weaknesses and compromise his reputation of masculinity and strength. As a consequence, his issues only progressed - he was medically discharged due to psychological trauma.

However, Alex eventually reached a breaking point where he realised he needed to start dealing with his mental health issues. Through the intervention of a psychologist, he gained heightened self-awareness, learned practical coping mechanisms, steadily removed the layers of shame associated with mental illness, and the strength found in vulnerability.

Today, inspired by his experience, Alex is motivated to destigmatize mental health. Hence, he co founded The BroProject, focuses on creating safe spaces that are free of judgement, egos and stigma, ultimately prioritising a sense of togetherness, community, and conversation.

Finally, we discuss the necessity of prioritising one's mental health, emphasising the transformative power of looking after your wellbeing and investing in yourself.

Taking time for self-care activities isn't indulgent, but rather an essential practice for recharging and equipping oneself  to navigate life's daily challenges. And while there may be feelings of guilt associated, it's vital to recognise the immense value in scheduling time for activities that promote self-compassion and personal development.

This will ultimately allow you to thrive, show up as the best version of yourself, creating a stronger foundation from which to support others and contribute positively to the world around us.

#87 Redefining Singlehood: Embracing Solitude, Self-Discovery & Building a Foundation22 Apr 202400:25:53

In this episode, we shift the narrative on singlehood, highlighting its potential for profound self-discovery and empowerment. Rather than viewing being single as a deficiency, we embrace it as an opportunity to prioritise our relationship with ourselves.

Through this introspective journey, we deepen our self-appreciation, compassion, and understanding of our values. This process grants us the freedom to authentically shape our lives and cultivate genuine happiness from within.

And thus, by investing in ourselves first, we build a strong foundation for future connections, rooted in fulfilment, rather than filling a void.

#86 Growth Following Adversity: How to Flourish Beyond Hardship | Dr. Amrita Sen Mukherjee09 Apr 202400:52:46

Today I’m joined by Dr. Amrita, wellbeing expert, positive psychology practitioner, GP, disability advocate. To delve deep into the concept of adversarial growth and how challenges can become catalysts for our evolution.

We unravel the misconception that growth is solely about rebounding from rock bottom; instead, we'll illuminate its essence as a journey towards becoming a heightened version of ourselves… detailing how adversity can be invaluable opportunities for self-discovery and development.

We'll explore the multifaceted dimensions of growth, from cultivating a heightened sense of strength to nurturing deeper, more meaningful relationships. Furthermore, we'll delve into how growth enables us to embrace new possibilities and foster an enhanced appreciation for the beauty of life's experiences.

We emphasise the individualized nature of the growth process. There's no universal formula for personal development. Each of us perceives and interprets experiences in our own unique way, shaping our understanding of growth, trauma, coping mechanisms, and acceptance. What proves effective for one person may not necessarily resonate with another... so we need to celebrate our differences, embrace our uniqueness, honouring that narrative of self-compassion.

It's also important to acknowledge the inevitability of ebbs and flows in our growth journey. Despite the strides we've taken, we may still encounter moments of vulnerability, difficulty and low mood. But it's important to understand that experiencing these fluctuations doesn't make us weak; rather, it's a testament to our humanity. Our emotional well-being isn't a fixed state but rather a dynamic landscape that evolves over time. Growth isn't a linear path; it's a nuanced journey with highs and lows. These fluctuations don't diminish the progress we've made; they simply underscore the complexity of our personal evolution.

#70 Finding Positivity After Anorexia: Challenging Labels & Self Discovery | James Knot19 Jul 202300:32:43

Today I'm joined by James Knot for a thought-provoking conversation about our shared journey through anorexia nervosa.

In this episode, we delve into various topics that are often overlooked when discussing anorexia. We shed light on the delayed diagnosis and how being labeled as an anorexic inadvertently fueled our desire to continue down the path of disordered tendencies. We also touch on the role of perfectionism and control.

One aspect we explore is the lack of recognition given to the psychological components of anorexia during medical intervention and hospitalization. While the focus is primarily on physical symptoms like BMI, meal plans, calories, and scale weight…. the underlying psychological triggers, emotional components, and thought processes are often neglected.

However, we don't dwell solely on the challenges. James opens up about his own path to recovery, emphasizing the transformative power of self-compassion, positive self-talk, and finding a sense of purpose. We both share the importance of rediscovering our true selves, away from the deprivation and isolation of anorexia, and how aligning with our values greatly encouraged our recovery.

As we wrap up our conversation, we shift towards finding positivity after anorexia. We discuss how our negative experiences have allowed us to appreciate the beauty in the mundane and find happiness in the simplest of things.

So join us as we explore the depths of anorexia nervosa, the path to recovery, and the importance of embracing positivity in our lives. It's a conversation filled with insights, personal challenges, as well as hope for those who may be fighting their own battles with this challenging disorder.
