18. Gabrielle Coco Chanel - An Unusual Jewelry Lover
jeudi 22 février 2024 • Durée 01:08:26
Today we sit down and share the story of a fascinating, daring, charming - and as we will learn, very clever woman: Gabrielle Coco Chanel. Known for the little black dress, the perfume (no 5), the quilted handbags - and her rows and rows of pearls necklaces.
She wasn't loved by everyone - her workers went on strike because of bad working conditions, which most probably was part of the reason why she had to close down her business during several years.
She came from a modest upbringing, where she spent part of her childhood at an orphanage. Soon however, she found that her charm could take her far. She was fond of wealthy men, and continued to seduce them all her life.
She lived through two world wars, several recessions, a huge number of design eras and she always knew whom to work with for her next big project - wheather it be creating jewelry, perfumes or get away from the nazis in 1940's Paris.
Welcome to the world of Coco Chanel!

This is an important episode for you who listened last week! Now that you know about the gemstone hardness scale, you should also know the exceptions. How can a hard gemstone still be fragile?
In this episode you will learn why it is seldom recommended to set an emerald in a ring that should be worn every day - and why it is rarely a good idea to remove a gemstone from an old piece of jewelry.

My favourite episode so far! We talk about the subject that gives many people anxiety: do you have to wear the same engagement and wedding rings your entire life?
But it is also for you who maybe is like me: who cannot see yourself getting engaged.
We look back on the pretty unequal history of engagement rings, and talk about how the diamond solitaire became the ultimate symbol of love. I also share the story of Halina who wears seven wedding rings (same husband) - and then I reveal how my own non-engagement engagement ring would look like.
Listen to the full episode or jump right to your favourite part below!
0.00-2.06 Intro
02.06-03.32 Why do we actually wear engagement and wedding rings? A quite grimy story!
03.32-05.51 When did the diamond solitaire become the ultimate symbol of love? It was actually due to a successful marketing campaign from a diamond company!
05.51-07.34 How large part of their monthly salary is it still recommended that men (yes) spend on the engagement ring?
07.34-09.58 The story of Halina who wears seven wedding rings (same husband)
09:58-13.27 My own story of how I wore power rings on my ring finger when I was single, and how I still cannot see myself getting engaged. And I share how I would design my own non-engagement engagement ring!
13:27-17.53 Final advice for all of us over-thinkers
Enjoy!
