Ep. 78: Radek of RH3D on E3NG, Virtu E3, and the Future of Open-Source 3D Printers
Épisode 78
jeudi 12 février 2026 • Durée 39:07
In this episode, we are joined by Radek of RH3D. Brought to you by Sovol. Get $10-20 OFF on Sovol 3D Printers: https://jle.vi/sovol (use code NEXTLAYER)
Radek is the engineer, architect, woodworker, and maker behind RH3D, a project best known in the 3D printing community for breathing new life into aging Ender 3 printers. His most recognized work, E3NG, reuses approximately 68–78% of an Ender 3 to build a fundamentally new, more capable 3D printer—challenging the idea that old machines should simply be replaced.
Born in the Czech Republic and raised in a family of mechanical engineers, Radek was immersed in problem-solving and hands-on creation from an early age. His path took him through architecture school, years running a woodworking business, and eventually back to architecture—while continuing to design and develop advanced 3D printer projects part-time under the RH3D name.
Whether you’re an Ender 3 owner, a maker who loves modding and rebuilding machines, or someone interested in sustainable approaches to 3D printing hardware, this episode is packed with insight, inspiration, and real-world engineering experience.
What happens when a “normal” manufacturing industry employee discovers 3D printing during COVID… and never looks back?
In this episode, we sit down with Yuto Horiuchi, a passionate 3D printing enthusiast whose journey into maker culture began during the pandemic — and quickly grew into something bigger. What started as a casual hobby has now expanded into community involvement and even hosting an event for fellow makers.
Whether you’re into FDM 3D printing, troubleshooting print failures, dialing in slicer settings, or just love hearing stories from people who genuinely live the hobby — you’ll love this episode.
Alessio Pagliai is an open art inventor and mechanical engineer, whose work blends creativity, movement, and experimentation into a uniquely personal maker philosophy. We also sit down with Stepan Drunks, a computational and industrial designer specializing in advanced 3D printing workflows, complex geometries, and production-ready objects ranging from wearables and accessories to functional products.
We dive deep into how computational design is shaping the future of additive manufacturing — from custom digital pipelines and fabrication techniques, to how artists and engineers can collaborate (and overlap) in the modern maker ecosystem. Whether you’re into FDM, SLA, generative design, industrial design, or simply love the creative side of additive manufacturing, this conversation is packed with inspiration and hard-earned insights.
Justin is the creator behind Pisces Printing, a YouTube channel dedicated to functional 3D printing, CAD-driven design, and 3D printable speaker systems. With over 10 years of experience in CAD and 13 years in the 3D printing world, Justin brings a rare blend of engineering precision and maker creativity to the podcast.
In this episode, we dive deep into what it takes to design 3D printable speakers that don’t just look good—but actually sound great. Justin shares his journey designing speakers for over five years and how CAD skills translate into real-world audio performance.
