Episode 247 - Fixed Lists and List Fixers

Épisode 247

vendredi 15 novembre 2024Durée 02:24:45

Episode 247 of The Independent Characters witnesses the return of Josh to the show! We continue to have Campbell from the 40kBadcast as our adopted Podcast Partner while Dan is on Paternity leave! (Congrats Dan by the way!)

In this episode Carl, Campbell, and Josh discuss the benefits and drawbacks of two different styles of lists. On one hand, there are those who never, or rarely change anything in their list. While on the other hand, you have those who enjoy changing up their lists every game.

We will go into the pros and cons of each option, and maybe a few ideas on how you might want to adjust your approach.

And yes, that is still new intro music you are hearing at the beginning of the episode. We are going to stick with it for awhile, at least as long as Campbell is guest starring on the show, and see how you folks adapt to it! Be sure to let us know your feedback!

This episode will drop on November 15th.

Time Stamps:

  • 0:00:00 - Show Intro and Elite Choice, Workbench, and Hobby Progress
  • 1:05:00 - Fixed Lists and List Fixers
  • 2:13:00 - Final Discussion and Show Closing

Episode 246 - Why Campaigns Fail and what to do about it

Épisode 246

lundi 21 octobre 2024Durée 02:31:28

Episode 246 of The Independent Characters brings onto the roster Campbell McLaughlin of The 40k Badcast fame to join us! While his regular Podcast partner Dan takes some much deserved paternity leave, Campbell will be joining The Independent Characters army roster on a regular basis. We couldn't ask for a better partner!

In this episode, Carl and Campbell talk about the ways that Campaigns, in pretty much any system, fail. We discuss what types of speedbumps campaigns often run into, and how those become dead end streets. Then we take a look at what strategies you can apply to ensure that you campaign is a successful one!

Even with some choice edits, this episode rolls in at about two and a half hours. But we think this is a solid topic of discussion and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it!

Episode 145 - Conflict in Gaming Groups

dimanche 18 décembre 2016Durée 02:51:03

Episode 145 of The Independent Characters takes a close look at conflicts within gaming groups. This isn’t a show about how to deal with ‘that guy’ at a tournament, but an episode we hope helps address problems in groups that have long standing relationships.

We have all witnessed poor behavior while gaming. However, when it is friends or communities impacted by this type of behavior when do you say something? And more importantly what do you say? Hopefully this episode shines some light on a complex and difficult topic.

We are lucky enough to get Jason Mullins from the Sons of Heresy Podcast onboard to talk with us about the main topic of the show as well! Make sure you check out his new show.

We also have two quick interviews. The first with Caleb and Kat of CK Studios. We talk about the upcoming airbrushing class they are doing in the Bay Area and all about their studio and outlook on painting and the hobby. This is followed up by an interview with Adam ‘Loopy’ Fasoldt from the Masters of The Forge Podcast. We go into the results of The Independent Characters 2016 Hobby Progress Challenge, which he has been kind enough to spearhead for us over the last two years.

There is a slight sound issue towards the end of the Hobby Progress segment. We think we might have an issue with our soundboard and are going to replace it. Fortunately it doesn’t impact the rest of the show and isn’t too terrible. Please bear with us. We hope you enjoy the show!

Time Stamps:

  • 0:00:00 - Show Intro and Host Introduction
  • 0:08:50 - Workbench and Hobby Progress
  • 0:58:00 - Conflict in Gaming Groups (Part 1)

  • 2:09:10 - Interview with CK Studios
  • 2:29:20 - Interview with Loopy

Of course we have our usual hobby progress and games played, but we also include a very short interview with Doug and Todd of Tablewar who have a short announcement at the beginning of the episode. We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 143 - Show of Force: The Dark Kin of Commorragh

lundi 14 novembre 2016Durée 03:34:22

Episode 143 of The Independent Characters brings us back to the Show of Force format. This time it’s Show of Force: The Dark Kin of Commorragh.

To help us uncover the secrets of this awesome army, we have brought none other than Brian Harvey (evilspaceelves) of the Splintermind Podcast into the studio. We also give him a chance to unburden himself with his hobby progress.

One note: the final thirty minutes of the show has some audio interference that appears to be either from a bad mic cable or a failing sound board. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do to get rid of it. Hopefully it isn’t to distracting as the content is really quite good.

We also have an interview with the owners of Tablewar! Doug and Todd join us to talk about their newest Kickstarter - The Macromats! If you are posting pictures of your miniatures online, you NEED this product! Not sure why Doug sounds like Darth Vader during this interview - but such is the problems you deal with when using Skype.

We hope you enjoy the show!

  • 0:04:50 - Workbench and Hobby Progress
