Bob Laishley | Caterham Cars - Apprentice to CEO28 Oct 202400:53:02

CEO of Caterham Bob Laishley is on this extraordinary episode of The Ignition Podcast.

From Apprentice to CEO, Bob's career isn't one of flash glamour and fame. Bob is as humble as they come he's probably the same guy from the midlands who wanted to work hard, do right by his employer and get the job done.

No, pretending to be someone he's not, Bob is a true salt-of-the-earth guy who happened to end up at the right place at the right time.

Sam Copley: Turning my photography side hustle into my full time career07 Mar 202300:58:15

Sam has been on the podcast before, but this Sam is a different man. He runs a SOK media company and does professional photography and videography for anyone in the Kent, London and Surrey areas. If you are interested in speaking to him about making your brand pop or have a question about how to make money as a photographer, I'm sure his DM's are open either way. It was great to catch up and discuss mental health, physical wealth and his journey so far.

Joana Fidalgo - Women need to be understood and listened to in the Automotive Industry.13 Feb 202300:52:34

Joana Fidalgo is best known for her work with the intercooler, writing pieces on bikes and giving us her unique perspective on why things work the way they do. I loved our conversation as we talked about subjects as taboo as why women don't feel welcome in the workplace too what stopped her from being creative and using her love for writing before getting her chance. If you are a woman looking for a role model on how to conquer the automotive space and find a career you are truly passionate about, look no further.

Spark #27 - Craig Williams: How to live with Parkinson's and still pursue your passion09 Feb 202300:04:22

Craig not only tells us exactly what it's like living with his disease. But he openly describes what he's going through and how it affects others around him. It's inspiring to hear that Craig isn't giving up. And not only is he not giving up, but he's also pushing harder and faster to make sure that what he is creating and his dream is made and that his mark on the industry we all love, Is taken seriously and not only taken seriously but he is going to revolutionise the way we look at engines, for one man to create this an for one man to do it by himself with limited help from the manufacturer that made the engine in the first place. It's amazing.

Steve Deeks - From the streets to the track19 Dec 202201:28:13

Steve Deeks, on The Ignition Podcast, Steve started life wandering from home to home. Still, that inconsistency in his life created an even more vital consistency in his personality: his ability to keep going. Throughout his career, he has been fighting for money to pursue his dream of single racing seaters professionally, and while he may not have achieved that dream, steve has given the motorsport world so much. Training racers and instructing drivers, allowing people to experience, in my opinion, the single best feeling in the world, the sense of putting your foot on the floor around a track. He now focuses his time on teaching and mentoring and finds that to give him all the buzz he needs.

Spark#17: Is it worth the wait?24 Nov 202200:05:52

In this spark, Alex Riley was on the ignition podcast speaking about how he found the Top Gear gig and the journey of self-belief and discovery he went on, waiting, being patient and putting effort into it. Its all good and well having a dream but how hard are you willing to work until you achieve that dream? I often think that success comes easy to most when behind the scenes. What you aren't seeing is the effort, determination and sacrifice that goes into that success.

This conversation is one really that shares perhaps a different journey than we aren't used to hearing, it's not a road crafted and carefully planned but one were following your mind and seeing where the journey takes you using skills you have been practising and subconsciously stacking for years to lead up to a point where you can use them to turn a passion into purpose.

Richard Morgan - Electric classic cars: The future is the past07 Nov 202201:05:24

If you're a fan of classics, electric or just innovation, there is something here for you! On the ignition podcast, Richard Morgan, aka Moggy, speaks to us about how he started Electric classic cars not on purpose but with passion. The project started as an electric conversion project by himself. By sharing it online, Richard has amassed interest and so much so that over time he has created what is now the world's biggest converters of classic cars to electric drive. This achievement hasn't come without its fair toll, and we take some time to reflect on what he's learnt and the lessons he has to share.

Craig Williams - The mechanics of dealing with Parkinsons disease and trying to make history 31 Oct 202201:10:41

Craig Williams of Neutron Engines is on the ignition podcast. Craig is a brilliant engineer and mechanic who has been battling with his health and passion for cars. You have probably seen his work if you're into engines, honda or just cool car stuff. Under the alias Neutron Engines, Craig is developing a brand new V8 out of two K24s and has been developing and solving the problems that come with both. This conversation with Craig opened my eyes to the reality of his condition, and I have even more respect for a man who, despite his deteriorating health, has unshakable optimism and an uncanny attitude towards life, continuing on his journey to build his creation and making it seem so effortless while sharing his condition on his social media.

Spark #15 - What your relationship with fear says about your personality27 Oct 202200:07:07

I have recently opened up to the idea that events and moments in our past that feel like open mental wounds may be easier to heal and cure than we think. Yes, the stigma of mental health and the conversations around the topic have a tremendous impact on communities worldwide, but it may be your fault that you are still struggling to deal with certain aspects. I implore you to look at the environment in which that event or moment in life happened, and instead of blaming or harbouring hate, think how you would have reacted if you were in the other person's shoes and had their problems. Would you of acted the same way?

This episode speaks to the way we look at those moments, and John's way of looking at things is certainly one I would recommend you listen to.

Alex Nevill - Racing 2nd, Business 1st10 Oct 202200:58:51

Alex Nevill on The Ignition Podcast, Alex is a racing driver who has spent more time on track than off of it. From an early age has been dealing with Dyspraxia, a learning difficulty that means he struggles with his coordination. Something which, for a racing driver, makes the job even harder. It is amazing to see this hasn't stopped Alex from chasing his dreams and pursuing what matters most to him. His passion for racing and his innate motivation to win is outstanding. In the conversation, we talk more about racing being a business than a sport, what he's had to do and how he positioned himself and racing as a creative marketing tool for brands rather than a donation to allow him to continue. I hope you enjoy listening to this masterclass in motorsport marketing from a man in the middle of it.
