Have we got your attention? LIVE from the Last Thursday Club04 Sep 202400:29:26

Attention gets talked about a lot in our industry, but there isn’t a universal understanding of what constitutes it or how to best measure it. Understanding and quantifying attention not only helps advertisers see what captures consumer interest but also sheds light on the visibility and quality of ads.

To kick off Season 16 of The IAB UK Podcast, we turned our attention to attention with a live recording from August's Last Thursday Club. Pat Hann, Ad Tech Manager at IAB UK, was joined by GumGum’s Peter Wallace, Allwyn UK’s Rachel Moss and Meta’s Rob Smallwood to discuss why attention is so tricky to scale up, the difference between good and bad attention, and how we marry the metric with current sustainability efforts.

Stay Engaged x Oh What Now: Where did it all go wrong for ad-funded quality publishing?20 Aug 202100:26:35

Ad-funded journalism once held the powerful to account. It looked out for our safety. It helped us to navigate the thousands of entertainment options that bombard us every minute of every day. It gave us all a seat at the table. But not anymore.

With ad funded, quality news a thing of the past, can you tell fact from fiction? In this special Stay Engaged collaboration with podcast 'Oh What Now', host Judith Horn is joined in the studio by disgraced MP Vikram Chopra, Readership Editor of The British Bugle, Gem Sarsons, Consumer Rights Advocate Ruth Medley and author & founder of the Cut The Noise movement, Crispin Softly to ask ‘how on earth did we end up here?’

Stay Engaged 2021 draws to a close with a fiery debate on where it all went wrong for ad-funded, quality publishers. With rumour rife, fake news taking hold and society starting to unravel, Judith Horn and her opinionated guests dissect the downfall of professional journalism.

__

Oh What Now was written for IAB UK Stay Engaged by Jon Bradfield and produced by Ali Rezakhani. Judith was played by Joan Walker, Ruth by Annabel Leventon, Vik by Amerjit Deu, Crispin by Daniel Leadbitter and Jodie Steele played Gem.

Stay Engaged 2021: 'Live like Common People' with Jed Hallam and Sarah Sutton06 Aug 202100:31:54

The Advertising Association’s recent All In Report found that 20% of UK advertising professionals attended fee paying schools versus a national average of just 8%. Given that imbalance, is there still stigma in ad land about being – or even sounding – working class?

Established in 2021, Common People aims to reduce barriers to entry for people from working-class backgrounds, assist with career development and be a space where people can share their career journeys as a source of inspiration.

In this session, Jed Hallam and Sarah Sutton – two of the leading members of the group – talk about why Common People is needed and how it can make marketing better.

Stay Engaged 2021: 'Rising StAR' with Havas Media's Marek Wrobel02 Aug 202100:20:33

Emerging technologies are transforming media and marketing, but this is not a linear process – there are successes and disappointments, hype and ‘fad’ labelling. However, some of these technologies do become ‘rising stars’ and there is no better example of this than the journey augmented reality has been on – from a gimmick to what Harvard Business Review now calls an essential technology. In this session, Havas Media’s Marek Wrobel looks at the past, present and future of AR - charting how it has evolved from Pokémon Go to a valuable storytelling platform during the pandemic.
