#226 - Interview Feat. Mason "Winner Take All, Music Is Democratised & No Streaming Numbers"22 déc. 202401:07:17

On today's show I caught up with Mason. Giving one big finger to trends, genres and mediocrity has been Mason’s mantra for over twenty years. His studio creations and energy behind the decks are a direct reflection of this personality. Equal parts groove, melody and eccentricity the Dutchman avoids jumping on electronic music bandwagons at all costs. “I could make club music fodder all day, but that would just bore me shitless. I like to challenge myself and my audience a bit more than that!” says Mason on his production ethos.

You may know Mason from his breakout single back in 2007 (‘Exceeder’), yet he would be the first to tell you that things have moved on a hell of a lot since those times. The boy has released three fully-fledged artist albums featuring a plethora of guest artists. Recent partners in crime include Dragonette, Jack Garratt, Stefflon Don and Alex Clare.

On today's show I caught up with the awesome Gus Glasser. Here is a little more about him from him;

"I remember crying at 8 years old, begging my dad to let me quit piano. I hated lessons; I hated practicing. In his wisdom, he forced me to stay, and I could never thank him enough. Without that decision, I may have never found what I know I'm meant to do. Music is how I express myself, a go-to activity with friends, and a constant teacher of life through patience, problem solving, and humility.

I have no backup plans and really no other career interests. I’m here to dedicate myself to creating music in whatever capacity that leads to in my life. My biggest musical influences have been Trey Songz, Flying Lotus, Mr. Carmack, and Marc Rebillet. While changing throughout the years, I describe my current sound as “Soulful Pop”: elements of mass appeal grounded in musicality and emotion. I greatly appreciate anyone who uses their time to listen to my music, and I hope that whatever plays on that speaker provides value, comfort, and healing. Thank you to every single person who supports me as you continue to encourage my devotion to art. Much love, Gus."

Ever since I was a young girl, growing up on the South Side Of Jane Street, I've always been singing. I was shy however and I would only sing and write in private. I knew that music this would be my outlet and safe haven from the chaos that occurred in my life. From my brother who m**** me when I was a little girl, to my grandparents passing away, my father always working and my sister being an alcoholic, music became my best friend and ally.

After one night of confronting these matters, I was no longer welcomed in my own home. I just had too much bottled inside that I had to let out.
