Maybe there's a silver lining in the 'Rona. One of our kids has needed some extra focus on character building, and too much activity - even really good activity, can hinder that development of fruit. Our kids need focused discipleship as they grow, and we have to take the time to do that proactively. Today I'm sharing a little bit of what that looks like in the St. John house.

Jesus reached out to the lepers at great personal risk. Likewise, we need to be who God says we are and be loving the body of Christ. We need to be involved with each other, not forsaking the gathering of believers, and spending time in prayer. The power of prayer isn't based on anything that we do. The God to whom we pray is the Source of the power of prayer. Prayers puts us in touch with our Creator and we can expect incredible things. He can and He will answer us according to His timing and His will. Let's be believers of action and trust Him as we move forward. Daily life is still moving on in the midst of the current insanity, and it's important to keep talking about it. 

Jesus knew how hard this world was going to be. In His wisdom, He laid the groundwork for us—and we need to lay the groundwork for our kids. Jesus showed us how to suffer and not lose heart, how to view suffering, and how to view God in the middle of the struggle. We can honor Him without denying how difficult this situation really is, and I’m sharing some practical tips for doing that right now. He is listening, He loves you, and He can be trusted. 

On Wednesday we heard from my daughter and her husband as they shared their birth story and the challenges that came with it. Today we’re finishing the “living room” conversation about the birth of their baby girl, and Ryan has practical tips for the dads from his own experience—even the third time around. This is a raw, real look inside our tight-knit family… and I think it will bless and encourage you.

 | 921It’s easy to feel out of sorts these days, and our children are bearing the same stress we are, they are just perceiving and handling it differently. My good friend Dr Kathy Koch is sharing an exercise we can do to help our kids articulate what they are feeling and help them see that they are in control of something in their lives. Personally, I think it would be good for the whole family, and I took my own notes this time!

 In case you haven’t noticed, I’m struggling in this. God’s desire is that our hearts would be refreshed and encouraged right now, even though on some days that seems impossible. We know that God is a god of provision. He is Jehovah Jireh, Our Provider. He is Jehovah Rapha, Our Healer. El Roi, The God Who Sees. I feel like the weeks are going by kind of slow right now, like we’re just sort of hanging on for dear life and trying to just follow the Lord in the moment, and follow Him. I’m talking with my friend Connie Albers today about parenting in the midst of  ‘Rona craziness and the late teen years—possibly two equally stressful situations.  It is possible to maintain a relationship with an older teen when they’re making choices they don’t see to be harmful.
