How Freedom is Supposed to Work with Judge Dave Larson11 Oct 202400:55:04

Judge Dave Larson is joining me here today to discuss the critical role of the judiciary in democracy, the importance of educating the public about judicial races, and the ethical boundaries judges must navigate. He emphasizes the need for judges to apply the law as written, rather than legislating from the bench, and highlights the challenges of judicial selection and campaign finance. We’re also touching on the need for reform in the judicial election process in order to enhance public awareness and trust in the judiciary. In this conversation, Judge Larson highlights the role of education in fostering civic responsibility and the necessity of active participation in democracy to combat tyranny and ensure freedom.

This conversation is straight fire! You won’t want to miss it.

How to Talk About Same-Sex Attraction with Your Kids with Liisa Bradshaw20 Sep 202400:40:29

We are hearing more and more about young kids grappling with same-sex attraction. It's prevalent in the culture right now. Many kids today, many of them coming out of the government school system, see absolutely nothing wrong with transgenderism or same-sex attraction. And it's becoming an increasingly challenging subject for parents to navigate, given the fact that there are a lot of grownups in the room who are telling parents to affirm their child’s every whim. Are you prepared to handle these conversations as they come up? Join me today for a practical conversation about this difficult topic.

You're Not Enough (and That's Okay), with Allie Beth Stuckey | Part 2 29 Jul 202000:20:20

There is so much freedom in recognizing that we are not enough, yet we are bombarded with a message to the contrary. Jesus is our enough-ness, and when we believe that, we can walk in the rest of His plan for us. All we need to do is look to the cross, and that tells us all we need to know about our value.  Today in part 2 we're talking about the fourth and fifth myths culture is telling us. I know you'll love Allie. She's one of my favorite millennials! ***Find links and transcription at HeidiStJohn.com***

Raising Kids Requires Proactive Discipleship22 Jul 202000:19:13

Maybe there's a silver lining in the 'Rona. One of our kids has needed some extra focus on character building, and too much activity - even really good activity, can hinder that development of fruit. Our kids need focused discipleship as they grow, and we have to take the time to do that proactively. Today I'm sharing a little bit of what that looks like in the St. John house.

God is in Control 15 Jul 202000:23:19

Jesus reached out to the lepers at great personal risk. Likewise, we need to be who God says we are and be loving the body of Christ. We need to be involved with each other, not forsaking the gathering of believers, and spending time in prayer. The power of prayer isn't based on anything that we do. The God to whom we pray is the Source of the power of prayer. Prayers puts us in touch with our Creator and we can expect incredible things. He can and He will answer us according to His timing and His will. Let's be believers of action and trust Him as we move forward. God is in control, and we are not alone. ***Find links and transcription at HeidiStJohn.com/Podcast***

Homeschooling is Discipleship with Leslie Nunnery21 Feb 202400:34:27

It’s easy to get lost in the day to day tasks of childrearing and homeschooling, but it’s critical we remember what our goals really are for our children. Family discipleship, with a focus on the hearts and character of our children, is so much more important than the academics— more rewarding also. This is your shot in the arm to keep doing the hard thing. It’s worth it!

During the Happy Hour extended podcast we’re giving direction for homeschooling through the high school years and highlighting priorities as you wrap up the homeschool years with your children.

College During 'Rona, Tension in Support of Trump, and More 17 Jun 202000:21:58

I'm answering your questions today! Do I have to comply with the 'Rona requirements to finish my college degree? How do I navigate this tension surrounding the support of President Trump? Daily life is still moving on in the midst of the current insanity, and it's important to keep talking about it.

Fearless Friday: A Theology for Suffering22 May 202000:23:08

Jesus knew how hard this world was going to be. In His wisdom, He laid the groundwork for us—and we need to lay the groundwork for our kids. Jesus showed us how to suffer and not lose heart, how to view suffering, and how to view God in the middle of the struggle. We can honor Him without denying how difficult this situation really is, and I’m sharing some practical tips for doing that right now. He is listening, He loves you, and He can be trusted.

Birth Story Part 2: Practical Tips for the Dads15 May 202000:25:08

On Wednesday we heard from my daughter and her husband as they shared their birth story and the challenges that came with it. Today we’re finishing the “living room” conversation about the birth of their baby girl, and Ryan has practical tips for the dads from his own experience—even the third time around. This is a raw, real look inside our tight-knit family… and I think it will bless and encourage you.
Family and a caring community is so important during pregnancy and the postpartum. I’ll be honest: you guys, the first week of Junie’s birth was hard. We all know the weeks around having a baby are expected to be challenging, but adding the stress of this COVID situation is certainly not helping things. Savannah struggled with severe postpartum anxiety—and the Lord helped us through in some pretty amazing ways.
Many of us know someone who’s pregnant right now (you might even be pregnant yourself!) and I think you’ll be encouraged to hear Savannah and  Ryan share their story—unfiltered—about what they learned and what they did that helped.

Birth Story Part 1: Postpartum Anxiety and the Blessing of Family 13 May 202000:25:55

Today I have a special treat for you … I’ve invited my daughter Savannah and her husband, Ryan, on the show to have a “living room” conversation about the birth of their baby girl, Juniper. This is a raw, real look inside our tight-knit family… and I think it will bless and encourage you.

Personally, I think it would be good for the whole family, and I took my own notes this time!

God’s Desire for Our Hearts in the Midst of Uncertainty06 May 202000:21:10

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m struggling in this. God’s desire is that our hearts would be refreshed and encouraged right now, even though on some days that seems impossible. We know that God is a god of provision. He is Jehovah Jireh, Our Provider. He is Jehovah Rapha, Our Healer. El Roi, The God Who Sees. We serve an amazing god and He has not changed during COVID 19.   Join me today, and let’s be reminded where we need to set our eyes. Faithful Counseling
