#491: Aaron Burr, Sir(s) // #HamilTEN Event at South Street Seaport
lundi 3 novembre 2025 • Durée 44:58
On August 21st, 2025, I hosted a #HamilTEN event where I was asked to moderate a conversation with five actors who have played Aaron Burr over the years: Nik Walker, Donald Webber Jr., Jared Dixon, Marc delaCruz, and Deon'te Goodman. It was extra fun because they are all my friends and have all appeared on the podcast! This is the full audio of our chat, including the first announcement about the ending of The Hamilcast.
It won't be any surprise for you to learn that this conversation was *excellent.* All of these guys have so much insight and incredible things to say; we absolutely could have kept talking for a lot longer but with subways to catch and half hour calls to make, we were on a very strict deadline. We had deep dives on deep dives into Burr the person, Burr the character, and everything that comes with the massive responsibility of playing this role. We talked about if Burr is truly a villain or really just misunderstood (and kinda valid in his thought process?!), and learned about clues into the real Aaron Burr's psyche the night before the fateful duel against Alexander Hamilton (hint: handwriting!).
Plus, fun details about performing the role onstage, how other characters can inform the way this one is played, and you can't have a conversation about A.Burr without going in on the dreaded table jump.
Thank you again to everyone who came to the event, to Hamilton for asking me to do this, and to the wonderful guys sharing the mics with me.
Nik Walker's episodes: 60, 61, 130, 131, 209, 210, 211
Donald Webber, Jr.'s episodes: 114, 115
Jared Dixon's episodes: 236, 237, 238, 276, 277
Marc delaCruz's episodes: 163, 164, 165
Deon'te Goodman's episodes: 205, 206

#490: Renée Elise Goldsberry // Hamilton Broadway's Original Angelica Schuyler
lundi 27 octobre 2025 • Durée 01:07:23
Renée Elise Goldsberry is on the pod and yeah no there are no typos detected this actually happened! We covered so much ground and I am still in awe of what a warm, generous, honest, and thoughtful person Renée is.
This episode is *packed.* Want to hear about her album Who I Really Am and what it was like to record it over four years and how Renée put her heart and soul into it? Done! How about her new Satisfied documentary, which is a deeply personal look into originating Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton while also raising small children and realizing she didn't have to choose because YEP we covered that, too. Oh hey maybe even Girls5Eva and a deep dive into Wickie Roy's whole vibe and (some of) her best lines and why women should never apologize for being ambitious? CHECKKKKK. Did I fangirl over Documentary Now!'s genius and hilarious Original Cast Album: Co-Op and tell Renée how often that episode is brought up on this podcast because we all love it so much? I SURE DID. #thebrownandthebeige #rooned
Plus! Renée beautifully unpacks the dichotomy of her experiences as the last Mimi Marquez in Rent on Broadway and first Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton on Broadway.
This really is such a fantastic conversation. We laughed, we got chills, and we made a date for ten years from now to "talk about what wonderful things have transpired." If you think it's not on my calendar for 2035 (with a reminder set for a year before) you don't know me at all.

A Special Announcement from Gillian + Lin-Manuel Miranda's First Appearance on the Pod (2017!)
lundi 25 août 2025 • Durée 01:06:59
The news is out! After nearly ten years and what will be 500 episodes, The Hamilcast will be coming to an end on January 26th, 2026, the podcast's official ten-year anniversary. While the community isn't going anywhere and the archive will always remain available, the weekly episodes you've come to expect will soon be wrapping up. Until then, this is going to be a PARTY. Let's celebrate this journey with memories, special events, plus a few repeat episodes to bring things full circle and look back on some extraordinary moments on the pod. While there is plenty of time to get emotional, I do want to make sure that I say I've loved making this show for you for all these years. Thank you for always being excited about things with me. It's been such a fantastic ride and I'm so happy to be celebrating with you.
As we kick off the final stretch of The Hamilcast, let's revisit when we fanned that spark into a flame, otherwise known as the time Lin-Manuel Miranda came over and ate popcorn with me and Mike for four hours while drinking a custom cocktail inspired by the bodegas of Washington Heights.
We're going back to October 2017, when Lin-Manuel Miranda himself first joined me on the podcast. It all started with a Twitter DM, which led to Lin visiting my tiny New York City apartment (slanted floors, whistling toilet, the works) to record one of the biggest conversations of my life. It was a monumental moment for me, for the podcast, and for the listeners. What followed became known as #Lintoberfest: five episodes filled with the excitement, stories, and rare audio from that unforgettable day.
Below you'll find today's relevant links including the rest of Lin's episodes, as well as the original description from when Episode 88 originally dropped in 2017.

/// Original description and links from October 1st, 2017 ///
Lin-Manuel Miranda came over to my apartment and we had so much fun that I have FIVE episodes for you! Welcome to #Lintoberfest, with my husband Michael Paul Smith joining me for these episodes. In Part One, I try to get over the fact that Lin is recording in my living room – spoiler! I don't! – But regardless, we tell the story of how Lin ended up on the podcast, details of the early days of Hamilton, why Lin is a Hamilton/Burr hybrid, and quote The West Wing a LOT. We also eat popcorn and drink the Spark Into a Flame cocktail, made especially for Lin and inspired by his Inwood, NYC roots. Stay tuned for four more episodes: two more with Lin and then the Lin B-Sides which will be outtakes, non-sequiturs, and commentary by me and Mike (you know Mike). And no, I'm still not over the fact that this happened! No chill whatsoever!

#393: Brandee Danielle Huston // Hamilton Broadway's Hair Supervisor // Part Three
Épisode 393
lundi 13 novembre 2023 • Durée 43:35
Brandee Danielle Huston (Hamilton Broadway's Hair Supervisor) wraps up her episodes with more questions from The Patreon Peeps. Brandee explains how and why Hamilton sets her up for success, debunks the very wrong idea that hair and makeup is "stupid girl stuff", talks about her favorite and most challenging hairstyles she's worked on, and her goals of working in other aspects of theatre somewhere down the line. We also discuss Brandee's activism, the importance of therapy, and why the world is wide enough for both New York *and* Chicago-style pizza.

#392: Brandee Danielle Huston // Hamilton Broadway's Hair Supervisor // Part Two
Épisode 392
lundi 6 novembre 2023 • Durée 46:17
Brandee Danielle Huston loves being Hamilton Broadway's Hair Supervisor, but it wasn't an easy journey getting there. As Brandee tell us in this episode, things are a lot different for people of color, women, LGBTQ+ folks, and those in women-dominated fields. From poor work conditions to pay disparities to unpleasant interactions, there is inequity all over this industry. It's so important making someone feel confident going on stage, and the work is very personal, but that isn't always acknowledged. Since working at Hamilton, though, Brandee finally feels like she's been set up for success. Brandee tells us how she got there, and walks us through how she earned the trust of the cast as a white woman working with BIPOC hair.

#391: Brandee Danielle Huston // Hamilton Broadway's Hair Supervisor // Part One
Épisode 391
lundi 30 octobre 2023 • Durée 42:12
aBrandee Danielle Huston is currently the Hair Supervisor at Hamilton Broadway, and has been in the entertainment industry her entire life. She grew up in a 5th generation carnival concession business and has been working since she was two years old. Inspired by painting people's faces at carnivals, she started working in theatre, and when she saw that there was a job in fixing the Santa beards for the famous Rockettes show and she thought, "Why am I not doing THIS?!" Brandee did everything from pushing boxes backstage, electrical work, sound, handling props, driving a forklift, you name it... all while going to cosmetology school. There's not a guidebook for breaking into the industry and working with the unions but this episode is definitely a very good start.

Épisode 390
lundi 23 octobre 2023 • Durée 44:50
This week, Julian Ramos (Hamilton LA, And Peggy, Philip Tour) is back with a love letter to New York, New York: both the city and the musical. He tells us about the tap number on the beam, what instruments he actually knows how to play, and why the one and only John Kander is the coolest person he has ever met.
Plus, more love and stories from his time with Hamilton, what it was like working with Lin-Manuel Miranda again on another show, and the inspirations behind his fantastic sense of style.

#389: Julian Ramos // Hamilton: LA, And Peggy, Philip Tour // Part One
Épisode 389
lundi 16 octobre 2023 • Durée 43:34
The effervescent Julian Ramos is back on the podcast! He was first on back in 2018, when he and Fergie Philippe came on together during rehearsals for the Philip Tour. Julian spent over four years touring with Hamilton, and his story with the show is incredible. He recently made his Broadway debut in New York, New York and is truly living his dreams, which all started with a certified meet-cute with living legend Susan Stroman.
This week, Julian tells me about growing up in Indiana, falling in love with musical theatre, and then moving to New York City to pursue his career. He even worked as a host at The Public Theater when Hamilton was there, seating people like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, and Oskar Eustis.

#388: Cristina Lundy and Fergie L. Philippe // Part Three
lundi 9 octobre 2023 • Durée 47:47
In the final episode of this three part series, Cristina Lundy and Fergie L. Philippe bring it home in a way only the two of them can. We kick off the Patreon Peeps and they're off and running talking about The Muppets, Sesame Street, Othello, unexpected takes on Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet set in a nursing home, for example), favorite Shakespeare take downs, movies we can't believe haven't been turned into musicals yet, and the idea of kids putting on Hamilton Jr.

#387: Cristina Lundy and Fergie L. Philippe // Part Two
lundi 2 octobre 2023 • Durée 56:29
This week we bring back #YayHamlet! Cristina Lundy and Fergie L. Philippe talk about the similarities between Hamilton (the musical) and the works of Shakespeare, and why actors need to honor those pieces in the same way. Hint: no need to overact it; all the words are right there on the page. And they're not saying it's easy! Fergie used to think he had to do Shakespeare in a British accent because FANCY. We also talk about an unrealistic need for all works of art to be perfect and right and accurate when in reality, so much of it is about writers being inspired by, as Cristina says, "the influences that pollinate them as artists."
Plus! Dream casting! Cristina and Fergie cast Hamilton actors in a slew of Shakespeare plays, they cast a Ted Lasso Much Ado About Nothing, and then we cast Ted Lasso characters in Hamilton.
