Something that we sometimes lose sight of as we find ourselves submerged in our fast-paced society; derailing from our priorities and what’s truly important at the end of the day. | 62. Life-Altering Experience: Londolozi Game Reserve | Peyton Callahan, Lyndsay Cochran, Maureen Staloch | 28 Jun 2021 | 01:54:14
Honored to host these three ladies fresh off of their 7 day immersion at Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa. If you’ve been listening, you’ll recognize this game reserve as Boyd Varty’s home base – a 3-time guest on TGU ;) It’s not every day that we’re presented with an opportunity, or even desire, to submerge oneself in the South African bush, but something pinged each of them in a way that was impossible to ignore. In this conversation, they each share their stories of receiving and answering their heart’s call, witnessing their untrue “stories” dissipate in front of them, experiencing pure bliss as a result of surrendering, and the many unexpected lessons that the people, animals, and land of Londolozi gifted them with. Some wisdom that we dive into includes… → The process of answering our heart’s call; the doubt, excitement, resistance. → What the Londolozi animals and land awoke within each of them. → The power of presence and stillness, invoking immense wisdom. → Learning how to follow our life’s next track. → Surrendering to the unknown. → What’s on the other side of saying yes? Among his many investment tips and tricks, Justin is keen on the importance of “family man first, businessman second”. | 45. Matt Simpson | Psychedelics for Healing Core Wounds | 21 Dec 2020 | 01:40:14
I had the pleasure of having my new brother, Matt Simpson, on today’s episode as we both “share the mic” and this episode on each of our platforms – check out Worth The Fight podcast. Matt and I have quite parallel journeys as we both drifted from “successful” corporate America and found ourselves on the path of healing our core wounds; much through psychedelics. Amongst many other topics, Matt uniquely brings forth a pivotal calling around the importance of healing the trauma of our war veterans. With findings that a vast majority of those who enlist in war have experienced similar childhood trauma, a lack of tribe and often have difficulty connecting on a deep level. In this episode, Matt and I explore... → Integration strategies: journaling, raw ceremonial cacao, micro-dosing. → How trauma interferes with our ability to connect authentically and meaningfully. → The veteran suicide epidemic & the need for effective healing of trauma in our veteran community. → Breaking through the prisons that we put our mind and heart in. → Most of the ways in which we filter our experiences is from our childhood trauma. | 42. Paul Chek | Working In | 11 Nov 2020 | 01:39:34
You may have heard me use this term a few times (or ten) to express going within ourselves to rediscover our innate self-love; to better understand who we are and why we show up the way we do; to shine a light on our shadows and make peace with those darker places within. Well, today’s guest is where the concept of “working in” all originated. Paul Chek is on the cast today and I couldn’t be more thrilled to sit down with him and share with you his genuine desire to spread his healing medicine with the world. In this rich and kind-hearted conversation, Paul and I explore... → Shadow vows: a new way to honor your partner in ceremony. → Understanding our shadows, where they came from, and what happens when we don’t work to heal them. → Ways that people often project their own feelings of scarcity / repression and how this hinders seeing others for who they truly are. → Why honoring individual values allows for a harmonious life. → Self-love as the basis for our experience of life. → How to create and honor a sustainable work-life balance. | 41. Kyle Kingsbury | Disconnection: The Core Wound of Humanity | 04 Nov 2020 | 02:07:03
Kyle Kingsbury is a close brother of mine who has opened my eyes to an immense amount (an understatement) in the 3 short years that we’ve been connected –– from facilitating my first plant medicine journey to the subtle and impactful ways that he continually shows up in my life as a brother. I’ll admit, today’s episode with Kyle certainly has aspects to it that I would have brushed under the rug had I heard this a few years ago. Some topics that we discuss are not of popular narrative; such as the ones we’re conditioned to trust and believe from the media, big pharma, or the government, to name a few. Regardless of what you may or may not believe, I think you’ll truly enjoy Kyle’s compelling way of bringing about some controversial topics, backed by his intellect and desire to purely educate starting within himself. In this episode, Kyle and I discuss a multitude of topics, some being... → Surrendering as a form of releasing fear vs giving up. → Why Cancel Culture is a modern form of vengeance. → Ways that we can change the current narratives by reclaiming personal responsibility. → How the core wound of humanity is that of disconnection from one another. → The stages of anger: rage vs unclean anger vs clean anger. → And more! | 37. Kelley James | Learning to Be You | 07 Oct 2020 | 01:44:06
Kelley James is a unique guest on The Great Unlearn today and shares a ton of wisdom surrounding the life-giving concept of simply learning to be yourself. Kelley is a husband, father and musical savant– freestyling his way through PGA Tours and private events, engaging with his audience in a way that only he can. He may have given us a dose of this gift of his within the podcast ;) In this episode he shares his realization that aspirations can only get us so far and that dreams can sometimes even guide us away from our own innate gifts and true path. After all, learning to be yourself and honing in on our own desires is what really creates a fulfilling life. Kelley and I explore many lessons including… → Always returning to our inner tracker. → Deviating from our dreams to be on our own unique path, not someone else’s. → Giving ourselves grace to pivot when something doesn't serve us anymore. → How dreams are here to inspire us, not drive us. → How the comparison game robs us of enjoying our own unique gifts in life. | 36. Brotherhood & Learning How to Show Up | Greg Buth / Dave Regula / Noah Rothman | 23 Sep 2020 | 01:40:51
Navigating relationships as we grow older is a lost art today — especially for men. Without awareness, friendships can far-too-easily fall into the depth-less golf buddy category, never sharpening and molding us the way they’re designed to.
I’ve invited three of my closest brothers who have continued to #showup for me in ways that I can only begin to describe. In this episode, we do our best to unpack exactly what that means. This is our opportunity to share our struggles and triumphs as a means to inspire you to unlearn the common ways of modern middle-age friendship and explore true brotherhood (or sisterhood).
We go deep into many areas, including, but not limited to:
→ How we’ve evolved together and developed deeper connections through many stages in our lives.
→ Ways that our brotherhood has been pivotal in becoming the best versions of ourselves.
→ The challenges we’ve faced, as husbands and fathers, during this pandemic.
→ Using ceremony to deepen connection with loved ones.
→ Approaching our parents with curiosity and understanding that we’re all doing the best we can with the tools we have.
→ Elements that we’ve implemented to amplify the quality of our lives.

| 35. Unplugging and The Power of Intention | Solocast | 18 Sep 2020 | 01:10:21 | |
Last year I attended Adyashanti's 5 day silent retreat, which is similar to a Vipassana retreat. Vipassana means “to see things as they really are.” I took a vow of noble silence and practiced deep stillness each day. I soon began to feel and experience many of the things that have ALWAYS been surrounding and supporting me. It was a life-changing experience. During this quarantine season, I felt it was an opportune time to revisit the magic I experienced back then and do my very first Dieta. For 4 1/2 days, I unplugged from technology, focused on a more plant-based diet, settled into my journaling practice, communed with my altar and most importantly, spent intentional time with nature. My intention was to attune to my being and the essence of allowing/surrendering by connecting with the divine feminine that is nature. Again, magical experience. And one I took this episode of the podcast to tell you more about in hopes that you may find unique ways to introduce more silence and surrender into your experience of life! In this episode, I share... → The constant work that is simply, surrendering. → Why sometimes it’s best to “weed the garden” vs implementing new practices. → How doing a Dieta and unplugging allowed me to tune into the gifts that surround me daily. → The importance of getting clear on our intentions with all things in life. → Surrendering and accepting our experiences vs letting our ego drive our experience. | Hallie Rose | Masculine Self-Love | 09 Sep 2020 | 01:49:52
We live in a society where men often feel the pressure to be overly masculine and overtime lose touch with the feminine essence that lies within all of us. Hallie Rose is an author, speaker, host of The Thought Room podcast and is on a mission to help men reconnect with all parts of themselves — including the Divine feminine within. During this interview, she deep dives the power of masculine self-love and all of the amazing implications for men who are willing to go there. During this conversation, Hallie and I discuss... → Cultivating a practice of awareness. → The power in recognizing that we are responsible for how we feel, not others. → A tool to help men reconnect with themselves. → Embracing agency and sovereignty over our being. → Triggering moments and people are opportunities to learn more about ourselves. → Redefining relationships through understanding adult attachment. | Conner Moore | Politics & Why We Need to Question It All | 02 Sep 2020 | 01:39:34
When it comes to politics these days, I'm tired of the noise. However, when I want to tune into what’s really going on in the political landscape, my guest on today’s podcast is where I go. Conner Moore breaks down the plethora of information that is constantly coming our way on his podcast, Conner Wanders. It’s phenomenal and I highly recommend it. Our conversation today is about the current landscape of our country (and politics in general) and why we need to be questioning it all. Conner isn’t a conspiracy theorist. He’s simply someone who can help us re-posture ourselves in the midst of a chaotic landscape of constant information. During this conversation, Conner and I discuss... → How losing a business catapulted Conner into a more meaningful life. → Ways that we construe the (mis)information given to us by political parties. → Our thoughts on this country’s divisiveness and why we aren’t 100% left or right. → Letting our emotions inform action vs our emotions being the action. → How freedom and opportunity are parallel, yet equal opportunity is lacking. | Dr. Jerome Lubbe | Using The Enneagram For Healing, Lifestyle Design & Relational Synergy | 26 Aug 2020 | 01:41:09
For years, I’ve heard people talk about the Enneagram and how powerful of a tool it is for personal development. And for years, I internally rolled me eyes. How could a “glorified personality test” help that much? During this conversation, Jerome, Peyton and I discuss... → Using the Enneagram to understand why we are the way we are and have the motivations we do. → Getting clarity around our personal efficiencies and inefficiencies and designing our life to play to our strengths (game changer for me!) → Understanding the why behind our triggers and how this is the way to outgrow them. → How our programmed dependencies for survival are not necessary for our current way of life. → How the enneagram can help you to understand your partner’s (or anyones) way of operating and enhance your communication immediately → And more… Connect with Jerome – Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/doctor.jerome/ Website: http://thriveneuro.com Connect with Peyton – Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ohdeerpeyton/ Website: http://peytoncallahan.com Connect with Cal – UnlearnX: https://www.thegreatunlearn.com/unlearn-x Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cal.callahan/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thegreatunlearn YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/thegreatunlearn/ Website: https://www.thegreatunlearn.com Newsletter: https://www.thegreatunlearn.com/newsletter Resources – The Brain-Based Enneagram: https://www.wholeidentity.com Rheti Test: https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/rheti

This conversation offers a simple, yet often tough, perspective when it comes to how we respond to challenging periods in life. Do you retreat when you are in mucky waters or do you lean into it and allow your hurt / humiliation / anger to evolve into purpose? From 7 Tour de France wins to Livestrong Foundation to battling lawsuits to Next Ventures, Lance Armstrong shares his journey through life and how facing his challenges head on served him rather than hiding away and letting that minimize him. With the current climate, I’ve had many conversations with others on the hardship that they are experiencing. This episode with Lance provided a nice shift in awareness that we are responsible for how we feel, given any type of circumstance. During this conversation, Lance and I discuss... • What can come from releasing bitterness. • The emotional impacts from retirement that no one talks about. • Not allowing hardships take us out of the game of life. • Continuing forward movement through our darkest moments. • How a simple mindset shift opened a channel for opportunities. • Letting our kids choose their own life path, their own passions.
