After a bit of a hiatus, the podcast is back and the games we have to talk about are an eclectic bunch, really running the gamut.

If you're a Patreon supporter and have been keeping up on things in our Discord, you'll know that Adam and Chris Hyde are hopelessly addicted to factory building game Foundry. The safe and nice, peril-free world has them utterly compelled to build forever and more. Could this truly be a Satisfactory beater?

But on the other hand, Chris Hyde has also been banging his head against puzzle game Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, which Adam has also tried, and, well, has given up on, for now. Elsewhere, Animal Well is a new MetroidVania, and it's got zero combat, so of course Lyle has been all over that one.

As the year cranks slowly into life, that can only mean one thing: it's time for a first podcast of 2024.

The usual podcast catch-up has to happen, so we can find out what people have been playing over the Christmas period, but for Adam and Lyle that mostly involves Fortnite.

That said, the pair have also been playing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a triple-A MetroidVania, which has enamoured pretty much the entire team, so let's chat about why, shall we, and perhaps discuss if more big studios and publishers should be doing games like this, and not just the usual first-person or third-person titles that seem to be all the rage these days.

While there are plenty of big games still coming out to chat about on the podcast, the team are back on Remnant 2, it seems. Chris Hyde and Adam have been playing the first DLC pack for it, The Awakened King adds loads more content, a new archetype, and new weapons and gear, and the duo apparently can’t get enough of it.

Meanwhile, Lyle has been beavering away at Persona 5 Tactica, to see if that is any good, but also dipping back into a game we covered in early access what feels like ages ago: now that Astral Ascent is hitting 1.0, has it delivered on what we hoped for back in September 2022, when Lyle said it “could be the next great Roguelike”?

Fit to burst with massive games, on this week's podcast it's time for Chris Hyde and Adam to discuss Alan Wake 2. We won't be spoiling it, but there's plenty to talk about given how long the team (or some of it!) has waited for the sequel from Remedy, that's for sure.

On this week's podcast it's time to talk about another massive JRPG, as Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is out, and we've been playing it.

Adam has played it and seen credits, and has a lot to say, while Lyle is still looking forward to getting into it further after previewing it. Chris Hyde is back this week, and who'd have though it, but he has thoughts on the mathematics at play in the game.

Elsewhere, Lyle and Adam are both rather smitten with the demo build they played of Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, but are also quite sad, since there's no release date, so they don't know how long until they can play more. Hydey has also played some of it, but what does he think? Yep, maths again!

Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is also out now, and is yet another Metroidvania to add to the immense pile of them that seem to be coming out in 2024. It's story heavy, but it's still a lovely responsive fun time.

Chris White is on the podcast for the second episode running, to talk about Marvel's Spider-Man 2. On this week's podcast, both Lyle and Adam have been deep-sea diving, all in aid of finding sushi for their restaurant. No, they've not had a career change, instead they've both been enjoying the delights of Dave the Diver, a game that had some buzz during early access, but has now been released fully with it's 1.0 launch.

Keeping with the feeling of being quite small in a bigger universe, Lyle has also been playing Pikmin 1 and 2 HD, while Adam previewed Pikmin 4, and the demo is also available now as well. Chris Hyde, not to be outdone, has gone BIG by playing Final Fantasy 16, so it'll be interesting to see if his initial impressions of the demo have continued into the full adventure.

It's a weird time for us all on the podcast right now, because it's halfway between the biggest games of the year, and the biggest news cycle of the year, with a Summer of Games on the way.

Adam has been playing Diablo 4 and has a lot to say about it, as he has complicated feelings. Resident Evil 4 Remake isn't out yet, but we've reviewed it and played it, and loved it. While we can't and won't spoil everything ahead of the release date at the end of the month, it's time to have a good chat about how we feel about this new version of a beloved game.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is out now though, and Adam loved that. Could this series be the future for Bayonetta Have a Nice Death isn't Dead Cells, but it's very similar, but is that a bad thing? Phew, what a chock-full podcast this will be.

Lightfall is out now, Mick has been playing it, but apparently he's not the only one who has been having a go at Destiny 2. What? Who? It serves us right for taking half the month off the podcast, because the games are back and they mean business. An early Game of the Year contender is now out in the form of Octopath Traveller 2, and Adam is smitten with it.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is also out now, and while not usually the biggest fan of the pink sucker, Adam is quite taken with this one. What about Atomic Heart though, is that any good?

We may have been absent with the podcast for a few weeks, but that's because we've been playing ALL the games, and some PSVR2.   Adam has been busy playing PlayStation VR2 to the point where he's not entirely sure what's real and what's not any more. Horizon Call of the Mountain is the big launch title, but is it the best one? Elsewhere, Chris Hyde has been hunting monsters in mon...no, wait, Wild Hearts. He's also been swearing himself into a frenzy thanks to the hardcore nature of Wanted: Dead. This is your one and only chance to get him to "git gud", folks. Last and definitely least, it's Lyle! Well, well, well 2023, you certainly are making for a very busy start to the podcast season, aren't you? Forspoken is out now, and Mick has played all of it, while Adam has played some of it. Is it actually any good? Is the first big PS5 exclusive worth your time and money?

Elsewhere, as if one big game isn't enough, the long (long, long, long -- you get me) awaited rebirth of Dead Space is here, and Adam and Chris White have been hard at that one, too. There's no way they can mess it up, right? You've probably read the review already and know it's good, but play along! Also, Xbox is being left out in the cold as Inkulinati is coming to Game Pass on both console and PC, and Lyle has been playing this strategy game that's in Preview Programme/Early Access.

Then, of course, there's the impending release of Season: A Letter to the Future, and the Xbox Developer_Direct, which saw the release of Hi-Fi RUSH, which Adam and Chris White have been playing. It's a packed podcast, this one!
