Leverkusen Furious at Bayern? Alonso’s Decision Looms! Top 4 & Relegation Fight!22 Apr 202500:28:32

Markus and Jan are back to break down a dramatic Bundesliga weekend! As the season nears its climax, Bayern have one hand on the Meisterschale, but all eyes are already turning to the summer. Tensions rise as Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro calls out Bayern’s public pursuit of Florian Wirtz, questioning their "showmanship" tactics. Why now, and where will this saga lead? Meanwhile, rumors swirl around Xabi Alonso’s future amid Carlo Ancelotti’s expected departure from Real Madrid. Carro insists Leverkusen must resolve the uncertainty soon, setting the stage for a hectic summer. While the title race seems decided, the battle for Europe is heating up: can Dortmund still sneak into the top four? And at the bottom, it's a fierce three-way fight for survival. Plus, we shine a light on St. Pauli and Alexander Blessin for a remarkable season. Stay tuned - we’ll have a special deep dive on Leverkusen's summer ahead!

Bayern's Season: What's Gone Wrong? What's Worked? And Flick's Resurgence!18 Apr 202500:29:51

Markus Fjørtoft and Jan Åge Fjørtoft review a dramatic week of European football. We kick off with an exciting giveaway in partnership with Classic Football Shirts, offering a legendary Germany 2012 Euro jersey. Then, we dive deep into Bayern Munich's season under Vincent Kompany, discussing the historical expectations at the club, the realities of this year's performances, and whether true progress has been made. We also cover the broader European landscape, comparing Bayern to clubs like Inter, PSG, and Barcelona, and reflect on Hansi Flick's resurgence.

Bayern Dominate Leverkusen! Statement Win! A Reality Check for Alonso’s Side?06 Mar 202500:15:53

Bayern Munich proved once again why Champions League experience matters, handing Bayer Leverkusen a crushing 3-0 defeat.

Leverkusen entered this tie unbeaten in their last six against Bayern, but when it mattered most, Kompany's side showed their knockout pedigree and left Alonso’s team frustrated.

🔑 What We Discuss:

  • Kane’s big-game mentality – His best game for Bayern?
  • Nightmare moments – Kovar howler and Mukiele's red card.
  • Alonso’s tactical gamble – No true No.9… did he get it wrong?
  • A missed opportunity? – Did Leverkusen lack the killer instinct?
  • Is the tie over? – Can Alonso’s side fight back in the second leg?

Was this a reminder of Bayern’s dominance, or did Leverkusen let a huge opportunity slip away? We break down all the biggest moments from the game.

Christmas Special: Boxing Day, Weghorst & Giroud, England Under Southgate, World Cup Transfers and Playing Out From the Back (!)22 Dec 202200:44:45

Markus Fjørtoft (@MarkusFjortoft) and Jan Åge Fjørtoft (@JanAageFjortoft) are back with a Christmas Special to discuss everything and nothing. We also discuss the return of the good ol´ number nines, as we indulge ourselves in the thought of a Giroud and Weghorst making their impact this past month. Further, how will it be for the players and teams to return to action, and what role will form, transfers, and fatigue play a part? Lastly, Jan concludes the special with a rant to all the teams that insist on playing out of the back to, you guessed it, not play out of the back. Enjoy!

Germany's early World Cup Exit: Why, How & What Now?03 Dec 202200:27:26

Germany exit the World Cup at the group stages. Crisis? Yes. A moment of reckoning? Absolutely. Since the World Cup victory in 2014, the German National Team have been on a downward spiral. Questions will now be asked of German talent development and the people responsible. The balance of the team was off (yet again, no clear #9), their best player at the tournament was a 19-year-old (good or bad?)  developed at an English Academy, and their defence struggled.

Markus Fjørtoft (@MarkusFjortoft) asks Jan Åge Fjørtoft (@JanAageFjortoft) to dissect the debable, including the negative effects the Bayern block and the "inwards" mentality is having on German football.

Jan Åge Fjørtoft (@JanAageFjortoft) and Markus Fjørtoft (@MarkusFjortoft) had the pleasure of talking to RB Leipzig Goalkeeper, Norwegian International, and former Premier League goalkeeper for our first guest in the "Player´s Corner".

Following a break-out season at Norwegian Championship club Hødd, in which he won the Norwegian Cup and became MOTM in the final, he made his way to Molde and Ole Gunnar Solskjær before heading to his first period in the Bundesliga with FC Ingolstadt under Ralph Hasenhüttl. He stayed there for three years before heading to England where he had various stints in the Championship and Premier League, most notably with Aston Villa. He has 40 caps for Norway and signed for RB Leipzig in October for the remainder of the season.

Ørjan was kind and open enough to share his football journey, from an ambitious and hugely talented young goalkeeper in Norway, to a more experienced and mature goalkeeper now back in Germany. Enjoy!

The thirteenth weekend of the Bundesliga is concluded along with the midweek games, most popularly referred to as the "Englische Woche" in Germany. Jan Åge Fjørtoft (@JanAageFjortoft) and Markus Fjørtoft (@MarkusFjortoft) are here to discuss that, plus the Champions League involvement of four Bundesliga teams: Bayern München, Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Dortmund. Why are Nagelsmann and Bayern, Glasner and Eintracht, and Rose and RB Leipzig in particular performing so well at the moment? Wolfsburg have responded strongly under the leadership of Kovac following their weak start to the campaign. Why? The "English Week" also proved fruitful for Xabi Alonso as his Bayer Leverkusen earned two wins in a row, one of which was the 5-0 win against the then league leaders Union Berlin. A Historically Poor Bayern, But the Title is Theirs—So Why the Criticism?16 Feb 202500:13:53

In the biggest Bundesliga clash of the season, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich played out a 0-0 draw—a result that leaves Bayern eight points clear at the top. Yet, despite securing a crucial point away to a top side, the post-match discourse has been dominated by criticism of a historically weak Bayern. Jan Åge Fjørtoft and Markus Fjørtoft discuss.

Is the negativity fair? Should the focus be on Leverkusen’s dominance and wasted chances, or is it valid to question whether this level of performance is acceptable for a club of Bayern’s stature? Meanwhile, Bayern enters a pivotal month with Champions League knockout ties and Bundesliga clashes against Leverkusen, Eintracht, and Stuttgart.

We break down all the narratives—Leverkusen's missed opportunity, Bayern doing what champions do, and should we expect more?

Bayern Special w/ THE Insider Christian Falk22 Jul 202200:32:17

Welcome to the first episode of The German Fussball Podcast with Jan Åge Fjørtoft (@JanAageFjortoft) and Markus Fjørtoft (@MarkusFjortoft)! For our first episode, we discuss all things Bayern München. Bayern's transfer window seemed to be turning into somewhat of a nightmare for the fans. No Haaland. The risk of losing Lewandowski and  “no money” apparently to strengthen the team. Yes! They lost their topscorer, but they have also gotten stars such as Mané and de Ligt. Head of Sport, Salihamidžić, has done a great job and the club has shown real intent in the transfer market. We talk to THE Bayern Insider about Bayern’s change of strategy, where all the money comes from and the management's success.

Christian Falk (@cfbayern) currently works as the head of football @sportbild and @BILD_sport, the sports section of Bild, the best-selling European newspaper with the sixteenth-largest circulation worldwide.  As THE Bayern Munich Insider, he has gained notoriety for his "True " or "Not True" reporting,  his weekly podcast, "Bayern Insider", and his two books on Bayern, aptly named "Inside FC Bayern" and "Bayern Insider".  He has been reporting on FC Bayern since 2000, and has accompanied the German national team to all tournaments since the 2004 European Championship, and currently acts as the team leader of the national team reporters.
