| Psychological Effects of Horror | 01 Mar 2026 | 01:16:12 | |
In this episode, we explore why we willingly scare ourselves — unpacking the neuroscience of fear, the psychology of personality and anxiety, and the surprising ways horror can function as emotional regulation and rehearsal for real-life uncertainty. From classic films like Psycho to modern social horror like Get Out, we examine how fear reflects culture, mirrors identity, and reveals what our nervous systems may be practicing when the lights go down. | Saltburn (2023) | 11 Jan 2024 | 01:40:08
Ever have one of those films that you don't really know if you can recommend to friends and family? Well, here I am, recommending one to you. Join me as I kick off 2024 with a discussion about Saltburn, the story of how Oliver Quick becomes the last man standing in a battle no one else knows they are fighting.

| The Last House on the Left (1972) | 17 Nov 2023 | 00:33:02 | |
The holiday season often makes me feel sentimental. Because of that, I present to you all, dear listeners, a very special episode. Not special in the way that it is my best work, or in the way that is a particularly "good" analysis. This episode is special to me because it is the first podcast episode that I have ever recorded. It is a small piece of history and an example of how far this show has come. I recorded this only to share with two to three people as an example of the show that I might start to regularly publish. And now, I would like to share it with you all for the first time. Please be kind and know that we all start from somewhere. Being that this episode was a practice exercise for myself, it is nowhere near the product of what I would hope to release. The audio quality is not great. I was nervous. I had no idea what I was doing. But we all start somewhere, right? Additionally, I would like to say that this will be the last episode of The Final Girl on 6th Ave for the year 2023. I will taking the month of December off to spend time with family and relax. I look forward to bringing you all of the spooky arthouse content you all enjoy with a fresh mind in January 2024!
| When Evil Lurks (2023) | 02 Nov 2023 | 01:14:12 | |
Demián Rugna's 2023 film When Evil Lurks is an investigation into the world of demonic possession that I guarantee you have never experienced before. This incredible story of a community completely at the mercy of an unreliable and untrustworthy man leads ultimately to the demise of a family unit. If you liked Terrifier (2017), then you will fall in love with this film. | Irréversible (2002) | 19 Oct 2023 | 01:07:14
I don't know if there has ever been a more difficult film for me to sit through than this one. Gaspar Noé's Irreversible (2002) gave me both a nightmare and an existential crisis. Viewed in reverse-chronological order, this film will leave you upset with yourself for having watched it and proud that you made it to the very end.

| Funny Games (2007) | 05 Oct 2023 | 01:19:27 | |
Have you ever heard of a director remaking one of their own movies shot-for-shot? Well, now you can say that you have. Michael Haneke has written and directed Funny Games twice - once in 1997 and again in 2007. Let's take a swim in the pool of Michael Haneke's genius by dissecting Funny Games (2007), which gives metacinema a whole new meaning.

| Inside (2007) | 21 Sep 2023 | 01:07:19 | |
Inside (2007) is a revolutionary take on the stereotypicaly home invasion film. With body horror aplenty and a woman as the perpetrator, this film takes on fetal abduction, revenge, and grief in such a manner that will have the viewer questioning themselves for days after watching. Oh, and need I mention that there is a spectacular performance from a CGI fetus?

| Martyrs (2008) | 07 Sep 2023 | 01:13:21 | |
In terms of films that have impacted my life, this one might take the cake. Martyrs (2008) is a journey into the impact of the trauma suffered by Lucie and her lifelong best friend, Anna, after Lucie tasks Anna with cleaning up a home invasion that ends up in a family annihilation. Join me as I discuss what it means to be a martyr and how the afterlife may not be what you imagine it is.

| Possession (1981) | 24 Aug 2023 | 01:04:38 | |
If you are in search of the ultimate horror drama film, look no further than Possession (1981). Directed by Andrzej Zulawski, this film is a surrealist and horrific dive into what a breakup can look and feel like. This film has everything from body horror to drama to psychological torment and beyond.

| Antichrist (2009) | 10 Aug 2023 | 01:05:15 | |
Lars von Trier plus Charlotte Gainsbourg plus Willem Dafoe - what could possibly go wrong (other than everything)? In this episode, I explore the controversial 2009 film Antichrist, which shocked the film community in unimagineable ways after its premiere at Cannes. A dark but apt journey into the lives of a married couple struggling after the loss of their son, Nic, and the first installment of the Depression Trilogy, Antichrist is not for the faint of heart.

| Safe (1995) | 27 Jul 2023 | 01:17:27 | |
Psychological? Environmental? Thriller? Drama? There is no one right way to describe this unique indie film from the incredibly talented Todd Haynes. Whatever you take away from this film will be the thing that scares you the most. Truly atmospheric, Safe (1995) is a masterpiece of the hollow lives many of us live.

| Mother! (2017) | 13 Jul 2023 | 01:03:25 | |
While this film may appear at first glance to be the classic arthouse vibe (you know, where the characters in the film don't have real names), it is so much more than that. Check out this episode where I attempt to contain my love of Jennifer Lawrence by not talking about her the entire episode.
