We are back and more excited than ever to kick off our winter 2015 show series, which will examine restaurants that have catering arms too. It’s a growing segment of the industry and one that has not been properly explored – how to create a great relationship with a restaurant (for smaller private parties) that also has a catering arm for the larger ones. “Restaurants, Private Rooms and Catering too!” will cover the small but burgeoning market of restauranteurs that do it all and well.  Tune in on Wednesday, January 14th at noon as BOTH the Director of Catering Sales, Sarah Weisman, and in-house Director of Private Events, Jodi Lynn, for Epicurean Events join us.  Wondering if you should host your next dinner in a private room or at home? We will answer that question, explore cost structures and private space possibilities in the Epiucrean group, which also owns four restaurants in New York: dell’anima, L’Artusi, L’Apicio and Anfora. The Italian inspired cuisine is driven by seasonal products and high caliber service that focuses on being friendly rather than formal; the Italian seeking guests are driven by the amazing tastes, homemade burrata and exceptional customer service. After covering everything you ever wanted to know about liquor in our last series, it is time to discover where to find the best food to pair with those cocktails you now know all about!

This week we will not only be infused with imagination, but also with alcohol! We will be continuing our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series on Wednesday, December 10th at noon LIVE from our offices with Colin Asare-Appiah.  The Bacardi Portfolio Master Mixologist will be whipping us up some innovative new cocktails, perhaps even some of the final contenders of Bombay’s “The World’s Most Imaginative Bartender” competition. It should come as no surprise that the company whose namesake is a 182 carat sapphire entitled the Star of Bombay enjoys crowning the best bartenders in the world.  The real gem of the company, however, is their brand new distillery, Laverstoke.  Designed by multiple award winning designer, Thomas Heatherwick, the distillery boasts a BREEAM award for sustainability and two stunning, intertwining botanical glasshouses.  These glasshouses are meant to maintain two separate climates, one tropical and one temperate to foster the ten botanicals from around the world infused into every bottle of Bombay.  If we are lucky, maybe Gary will reveal if the rumor about these gin botanicals making people angry is true, or a complete hoax. So get your shakers ready.  If we can have martinis on a Wednesday afternoon then so can you!              

If you thought that you couldn’t possibly learn any more about alcohol, think again. We have yet to discuss some of the finer ingredients in cocktails, like vermouth.  This is exactly why Master of Wine, Charles Curtis, will be returning this Wednesday, November 12th at noon to continue our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series.  Charles will be talking to us about Lillet, which for those of you that don’t know, is a key ingredient in the famous Vesper dry martini inspired by the iconic James Bond.  If that particular concoction doesn’t suit your fancy, Charles will also be telling us about different types of fortified wines.  If you’re in the mood for a regular ole martini or a Manhattan then the vermouth conversation will be just for you.  Or if you would rather learn about flavor fortified wines and how their popularity rose during the prohibition era and the Great Depression then you will not be disappointed either.  So grab a glass and a shaker and tune in this Wednesday at noon!

Forget about liquor before beer.  Learn the new motto: beer before beer, you’re in the clear.  Our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series continues with a topic that we have yet to address, beer.  Kristen Demergian will be joining us this Wednesday, November 5th at noon.  She is the NY Ambassador at Allagash Brewing Company, a brand dedicated to producing Belgian style beer.  In an effort to fill a void in the US beer market in 1995 founder, Rob Tod, started the company as a one man operation, which has grown into one of the industry’s most respected brands.  This may have something to do with the fact that all of Allagash’s bottled beers are ‘bottled conditioned’, meaning that sugar and yeast are added to all of their beers prior to being bottled in order to achieve natural carbonation.  The result is a softer, more complex beer whose flavors develop over time. If you thought that beer and spirits did not have much in common, think again.  If you want to know more (trust us, there is a lot more to learn!) tune in this Wednesday at noon.

You break it, you buy it.  However, breaking a superior strength Johnnie Walker bottle may be harder than you think.  If you want to know why, tune in on Wednesday, October 29th at noon as we continue our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series.  We will be joined by Johnnie Walker’s Master of Whiskey, Stephen Wilson, who since 2006 has been the host of the Johhnie Walker Journey and the House of Walker experience at events across the country. The company has been the winner of multiple international awards for quality and the recipient of the Royal Warrant. We will hear about that, and get the inside scoop on his travels to Cardhu, where he studied the Johnnie Walker art of blending.  An impressive feat considering the company has the largest collection of whiskies in the world.  It is no wonder why; the brand boasts six separate labels, from the number one Scotch Whiskey in the world (The Red Label) to the highly revered Blue Label.    Don’t underestimate the powers of scotch.  If it can save Indiana Jones’ life in “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” who knows what Johnnie Walker can do for you? #keepwalking

A family business seeped in history was the clear message conveyed when we had Jack Daniel’s assistant master distiller on the Fall Wet Your Whistle Series last Wednesday; his own grandfather was master distiller there in the 1950’s.  Who better than to talk about Mr. Jack’s history, as Fletcher affectionately refers to the patriarch, than his own great grandniece, Lynn Tolley, who will be joining us on the show Wednesday October 22nd live at noon! Chris tells us that the recipe for Jack Daniels No. 7 has remained the same for over 150 years, but Lynn, a relative AND taste tester, will speak to us about the evolution of the brand, the whiskey and the process of its making. Last week, we did not get to unravel the origin of the “tales of mischief, revelry and whiskey”, but this Wednesday we plan on wiping the dirt off both those stories, and the rest of the family secrets.

Get ready for a special treat because on Wednesday, October 15th at noon, our Fall “Wet your Whistle” series continues with a special guest, Chris Fletcher!  The assistant master distiller of the oh-so-eponymous Jack Daniel’s, will be schooling us on all things whiskey.  Have you ever wondered why almost half of the liquor at a bar fits under the category of whiskey?  Well Chris is going to help us unravel the mystery of what makes a scotch or bourbon different from other types of whiskey. Maybe, if we are lucky, he will even spill the dirt on how some of the tales of “mischief, revelry, & whiskey” came about.  You won’t know unless you join us this Wednesday!

The Event Jeannie’s Fall “Wet Your Whistle” Series with Lady Tanqueray! Stay tuned for another episode of our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series on Wednesday, October 1st at noon. We are taking it up a notch with special guest star Rachel Ford - affectionately known as Lady Tanqueray.  Together we will explore the 180-year-old identifiable style of this remarkable gin! Don’t miss out as we will be discussing everything from a James Bond martini to great twists on classic cocktails. Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series continues with the world’s foremost cocktail Guru, Brian Van Flandern September 23rd us at noon as we continue our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series!   Master Mixologist Brian Van Flandern, founder of Creative Cocktail Consultants, creator of the world’s first cognac summit and spirts super geek is back to tell us how to really mix a drink.  We will learn what’s new and hip in the cocktail world and maybe we will even tell you a little bit about what Brian’s working on now! Join at noon on Wednesday to learn how to add more spirit to your mixed drinks! 

Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series continues with Madeira, Sherry and Brandy! September 10th join us at noon as we continue our Fall “Wet Your Whistle” series!  At the conclusion of the September 3rd episode we touched on Madeira and Sherry.  Wednesday, with the help of our wine and food expert extraordinaire, Charles Curtis, MW, we will delve even deeper into the production and fine taste of these two exquisite types of wines.  Naturally, the conversation will drift toward Brandy, and it will come as no surprise why it’s referred to as an “eaux-de-vie”; Cognac, Armagnac, pairings with food, all will be discussed. So raise your glass at noon on Wednesday, 9/10, as Jeannie and Charles discuss what exactly you should be filling it with!

The Event Jeannie’s Fall “Wet Your Whistle” Series kicks off with Sweet Wines, Port, Madeira & Sherry! Following on our summer series of wines and champagne, we are taking it up a notch and talking about grown up drinks!  Seguing from our summer wine series with a chat about sweet and dessert wines we will move into a discussion about Port, Madeira & Sherry.  Charles Curtis, our resident “anything that can be imbibed” expert will explain the process of how each is made, what the aging process means (so you know what you are buying when you purchase a Colheita versus a Tawny) and when one should really be serving and drinking Sherry!  Jeannie will be live at noon on September 3rd, with Charles as we figure out what to serve after the meal is over and the night is just beginning!

Everyone always wonders how Rose champagne and wine is made; we will tell you at noon on August 20th as we discuss Rose wines from all over the world with Charles Curtis, our resident alcohol guru!  Marsannay you say?  That’s on the list, as is Lancer’s, Mateus, Pinotage and of course, Brad and Angelina’s very own rose wine!  We will talk about the underlying grapes of rose, how it’s created, what’s good, what’s not and what you should be drinking in the final weeks of summer.  Jeannie will be live at noon on August 20th, with Charles as he actually uses the phrase “G spot” during our discussion on Rose wines; yes, “G spot”……

The Event Jeannie’s summer “Wet Your Whistle” Series continues with French Reds French wine production dates back to the 6th century BC and on the assumption that most of us don’t have time to figure out what’s been happening over the past 1500 years, we invited Charles Curtis to sum up the most salient points about French Red Wine.  And since Charles just finished a book entitled the “Original Grands Crus of Burgundy” – it’s hard to imagine that even the most experienced wine connoisseur won’t learn something too!  Jeannie will be live at noon on August 13th, with Charles as we examine Red wines and grapes comprehensively from Cabernet Franc to Syrah!

  The Event Jeannie’s summer “Wet Your Whistle” Series continues with Old World Red Wines We started the discussion with Italian red wines last week when Charles Curtis highlighted the three most prominent grape varietals: Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, and Aglianico.  But there was so much more – so this week we will pick up where we left off and go through the rest of Italy and then hit Europe as a whole, saving French & Spanish reds for later.   Jeannie will be live at noon on August 6th with Charles as we examine red wines and grapes comprehensively from Piemonte to Croatia!

The “Wet Your Whistle” Series continues with MICHAEL MADRIGALE, HEAD SOMMELIER at Bar Boulud! We can’t imagine anyone better than Michael Madrigale, Head Sommelier at Bar Boulud and overseer of the wines at Epicerie and Boulud Sud to talk us through how to intelligently buy wines in a restaurant.  A Food & Wine 2012 “Top Sommelier” title holder, Michael is well positioned to guide us on how to order wines properly, what to consider, what to ask and most importantly, what NOT to do.  In particular, the restaurant’s emphasis on Rhone Valley and Burgundy wines will allow us to relate specific examples of Michael’s wisdom in a narrower band to make the discussion far more applicable in a restaurant setting generally or specifically at one of the Boulud restaurants. Join us live at noon on July 23rd as we continue our Wet Your Whistle series, and give you something tangible to show off with the next time you pick up the wine list at a restaurant!

The Event Jeannie’s summer “Wet Your Whistle” Series continues with Whites in the United States We realized that a discussion of white wines in the US needed its own show when our research produced 22 wine producing States in America – not the Americas, but 22 American States.  California, New York, Oregon and Washington – what about Texas and Arizona – and yes, even Charles’ home state of Minnesota produces wine.  Which is why we asked Charles Curtis, Master of Wine and founder of AlphaWine to return to our Wet Your Whistle Series to walk us through what having 22 American wine producing states really means to our palettes.  Are the big three even worth our white wine drinking time? Price, value, taste, growing and production – what’s out there and what’s “out” there that we should aim to avoid.  Best bets, trends and the perfect regional gift if you want to be generous and smart about your local wines.  And of course, we will tell you where you should really go when you visit Napa. The Event Jeannie’s summer “Wet Your Whistle” Series continues with New World Whites After a holiday hiatus, during which we spent time tasting the old world whites about which we spoke in our last Wet Your Whistle episode, we continue on Wednesday July 9th at noon with a look at white wines in the new world.  We still owe Rieslings their due, which our expert Charles Curtis, revered Master of Wine and in our minds, master of anything liquid, will start discussing before we travel to modern day white wine making.   A big fan of Rieslings, Charles will convince why they are so loveable after which we will look at new versus old comparatively, assessing value, taste, creation and of course, the differing soil, weather and growths.  But perhaps most useful, we will try and persuade Charles to tell us just what to buy if we want a “wow” new world white! The Wedding Jeannie’s Venue Series concludes with an historical bombshell; Ellis Island! The Wedding Jeannie’s Spring Venue Series Concludes another New York icon, The Rainbow Room! This week we reach the second to last episode in the series as we go inside the grand re-opening of the legendary Rainbow Room. The Rainbow Room first opened in 1934 on the 65th floor of “30 Rock” - 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The original city staple is back and better than ever; it still has the incredible views, that famous crystal chandelier, and the revolving dance floor, but it’s been updated to reflect the modern era while maintaining the original timeless glamour. We’ll talk to Keith Douglas, Managing Director, Rockefeller Center, about the architectural updates, the new menu, the new cocktail lounge on the 65th floor terrace, but that’s just the beginning! The Wedding Jeannie’s Spring Venue Series Continues with a New York City icon, Tavern on the Green! This week we are excited to feature a true city staple in a prime Central Park location. Tavern on the Green, first established in 1934, has reopened and is renewed - now it’s time to hear the amazing details behind its great revival! The new version of the icon boasts a modern menu designed by the restaurant’s first-ever female chef, floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the park, and an overall atmosphere makeover that creates a different feel in each room of the massive space. It will be an even more popular destination in the summertime because, also for the first time ever, there is seating outdoors to match the indoor capacity of 350! The Wedding Jeannie’s Spring Venue Series Continues with the Armory Foundation! While Park Avenue’s Armory may be the most famous in Manhattan, did you know that there are 6 others in New York City?  If not, this might be the show that you want to tune in for because the Fort Washington Avenue Armory on 168th Street, is only 20 minutes from Columbus circle on the A and is open for event business! Known more for maintaining the US National Track and Field Hall of Fame and hosting large track and field events rather than social and corporate events, we decided it was time to let the cat out of the bag about the possibilities for this space, especially if your guest count is over a few hundred. Its capacity is one of its biggest assets; there are not many venues in the city that can accommodate thousands of people in one space, but that’s just the beginning.   We’ll speak with Maria Lupardo, Associate VP of Special Events, to uncover all the details about this surprise venue and how to host an event there!

The Wedding Jeannie’s Spring Venue Series Continues with Location 05! This week we highlight a new venue that is extremely versatile! Location 05 is essentially a blank canvas that you can use for whatever you like - a photo shoots, meetings, weddings, and more. It features 3,000 square feet divided into separate studios so the event possibilities are endless! One of the most unique aspects of the venue is that they can provide you with anything that could be desired in a stage rental, including a bedroom, bathroom, fireplace, furniture, a full cook-in kitchen, and the walls can even be painted! We will chat with Senior Venue Specialist, PS Ives, about the venue, event capabilities, their exciting Open House for their new Midtown location, and much, much more! The Wedding Jeannie’s Spring Venue Series Continues with New Leaf Restaurant! This week we highlight a unique venue that is actually part of Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project. New Leaf Restaurant, housed in a charming 1930’s Olmstead building, is located near The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park. Amazing landscape, incredible views, and great food all contribute to New Leaf’s popularity as an event venue, though that has not diminished its draw as a go to place for intimate marriage proposals or live jazz and brunch on the weekends.  But the real reason that we have to talk about New Leaf this week is because of their new permanent seasonal tent which is doing more than keeping the rain out!  Jeannie will dish with Chef Kenneth Welch about event possibilities, his seasonal menu favorites, exciting happenings on the horizon, and that new tent!   Join Jeannie Uyanik live at noon on Wednesday, April 23rd for another exciting show in the series!

The Wedding Jeannie’s Spring Venue Series Continues with The New York Palace Hotel! This week we highlight an old favorite that has become new again! The New York Palace Hotel is a landmark architectural gem and a true iconic New York City venue that has recently been transformed. It underwent an 18-month, $140 million dollar renovation from top to bottom - including accommodations, dining, and event spaces. The new suites are particularly spectacular and can host a variety of events! Billy Panagiotopoulos, Catering Sales Manager for the Palace, will join us to chat about all the overall guest experience, wedding and event capabilities, on-site dining, and all of the other exciting new beginnings at the hotel! The Wedding Jeannie’s Spring Venue Series Continues with Weylin B. Seymour’s! This week we highlight a spectacular new venue that is somewhat of a hidden gem, but not for long! Weylin B. Seymour’s, historically the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, is one of the most exquisite venues in Brooklyn. The venue, built in 1875, still boasts stunning original architecture (including the teller booths!) but the restoration gives it a modern twist. Beyond bringing old world elegance to Brooklyn in a 21st century way, it also allows for greater capacity numbers than many Brooklyn venues, not to mention the high end catering that we are all expecting to hear about on the show..….. We will chat with Carlos Perez San Martin, who runs the venue, about its fascinating history, the story behind the new name, their entire private events process, and much, much more! The Wedding Jeannie's Health and Wellness Series Continues with Pediatrician Dr. Allison Gati! This week we chat with another amazing doctor about child care and pediatrics.
