| Exploring "Good" vs. "Bad" Foods | 28 Oct 2024 | 00:24:54 | |
Claim your complimentary gift of my exclusive mini weight care guide today! Link: Weight Care Guide — Dr. Francavilla Show (thedrfrancavillashow.com) “Good” Food vs. “Bad” Food: Can food truly be classified into just two categories? In this episode, I’m excited to challenge that notion. This topic is close to my heart, and I don't think we've discussed it in this way before. The diet industry and diet culture have made us overly obsessed with the idea of good versus bad foods. Today, I want to explain how some foods are more beneficial for achieving certain goals than others. We’ll explore how to evaluate foods based on how you feel after eating them, assess your performance with different foods, and gain insight into what foods work best for your body. I’ll also touch on gut health and how to recognize potential triggers. One category of foods that often causes gut issues, such as constipation, diarrhea, and bloating, is high-FODMAPs. Understanding how different foods affect our bodies can empower us to make better choices for our health and well-being. If you want to dive deeper into this topic and discover how to tailor your diet to suit your goals, be sure to listen to the full episode. Connect with me:

| How To Know If You Emotionally Eating And What You Can Do To Stop, Ep #010 | 09 Jan 2023 | 00:22:31 | |
In this episode, we are going to talk all about emotional eating. We will address ways you can recognize and handle it with the "Am I hungry" method. We will also talk about what emotional eating is and what it is not. When I have researched this topic before, studies estimate that about 70 to 80% of people emotionally eat. That means the vast majority of us emotionally eat at least from time to time. You may be eating the way you want the majority of the day and this emotional trigger happens then all of a sudden you find yourself off your eating pattern, eating way more than you planned, and eating foods you hadn't planned to eat. So what do we do about this? I hope to give you some tools today that will help so make sure you check out the show!

| Not-So-Secret-Secrets To Maintaining Weight Loss, Ep #004 | 28 Nov 2022 | 00:26:42 | |
In today's episode, we are going to be talking about weight maintenance. You may be thinking this episode is not for me, I have not reached my goal yet, I'm focused on losing weight right now. BUT, you are exactly who this episode is for because you need to know where you're going in order to get there and stay there successfully. Sometimes knowing what you're getting into is really important to experience what you're doing fully. When it comes to weight loss, that is absolutely true. We tend to get very focused on losing weight when in reality we should focus more on maintaining weight because that's hard to do. It's as hard to maintain weight as it is to lose weight. Whether you're trying to stay where you're at and stop gaining weight or whether you're trying to lose weight and keep it off, this is going to be the talk for you. We're going to talk about how you get there, and how you stay there.

In today's episode, we will talk about why it is so hard to lose weight and we'll start to touch on some of the things you can do. I hope, if nothing else, you leave this episode with a better understanding of why it is so hard to lose weight and be able to give yourself a little more credit and a bit more grace, but most importantly to stop blaming yourself so much if it has been hard for you to lose or keep weight off.

| How to Stop Overeating at Night, Ep #002 | 14 Nov 2022 | 00:26:48 | |
Today we will be talking about one of my patients' most common challenges, which is overeating at night. Overeating at night is something we have all probably experienced. I know I certainly have. You know how it goes, you've eaten your dinner, in my case getting the kids to bed, and you're sitting down to get some work done or watch some tv, and the next thing you know, you have eaten way too many chips or crackers, too much chocolate, too much ice cream, or even too many fruits and vegetables. Whatever it may be, you've eaten a bunch of things you didn't plan on eating, and you feel like you've undone some of the work you did earlier in the day or earlier in the week. Well in this episode we are going to add a tool to your box by covering 7 tips I have for what you can do to work on that nighttime eating habit. Which two will you start working on today?

Welcome to the 1st episode of the Dr. Francavilla Show. I'm your host, Dr. Carolyn Francavilla, Board Certified in Family Medicine and a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. I've been helping patients lose weight to treat and prevent medical problems for the last 10 years, and I'm taking what I've learned from them to you. This podcast is meant to be informational, not medical advice. Please seek out care from your physician for your specific needs. Today you’ll hear about who I am, what it is that I do, and why I do it. I'm going to introduce you to Weight Care, which is the term I use for treating obesity, and the guiding principles that I use for Weight Care, which are the Weight 8, eight rules that I think of when I'm taking care of patients and that I want you to think of when you're taking care of yourself.

Link: Medical Weight Loss Summit — Dr. Francavilla Show What’s changing in the field of obesity medicine? Keeping up with the changes in obesity medicine can be a bit tricky, which is why Dr. Mike Albert, a board-certified specialist in internal and obesity medicine and co-founder of Accomplish Health, is here to share his insights. Accomplish Health is a telehealth practice focused on providing comprehensive obesity care. When he's not working, Dr. Albert educates over 300,000 followers on social media about all things obesity. In this episode, Dr. Albert dives into the latest advancements in obesity care, especially the rise of GLP-1 medications. These new treatments are shaking things up and offering more effective options, but with big companies getting involved, there’s concern about whether quality care is getting lost in the rush for profit. He points out that these hormone-based therapies use hormones from the gastrointestinal tract to help regulate appetite and energy, and they’re actually more potent than the hormones our bodies naturally produce — all thanks to some cool advances in biotechnology. The discussion also covers how we’re shifting our view of obesity from just focusing on weight loss to recognizing it as a complex chronic disease with metabolic implications. It’s a big change that highlights the need for a more comprehensive approach to treatment. If you’re curious about the latest trends and insights in obesity medicine, be sure to tune in to the latest episode. Check out Calocurb:

With the rising demand for GLP-1 medications like Wegovy and Zepbound, the supply is struggling to keep up. In this episode, we welcome Dr. Ed Walker, who has a PhD from the University of Auckland focusing on the antioxidant effects of berry fruits. His efforts led to the development of Calocurb (Amarasate), a novel appetite suppressant derived from New Zealand hops, which shares some similarities with the GLP-1 mechanism. Join us as we discuss the discovery of this compound, its mechanisms of action, and its potential benefits. | Why We Need to Stop Focusing on the Cost of Obesity Medications | 16 Sep 2024 | 00:20:15 | |
Claim your complimentary gift of my exclusive mini weight care guide today! Link: Weight Care Guide — Dr. Francavilla Show (thedrfrancavillashow.com) Today, it's all about the debate surrounding the cost of obesity treatment. This issue is especially frustrating. Unlike other medical conditions, like heart attacks or cancer—which are treated without much hesitation despite their high costs—obesity treatment often faces scrutiny and resistance due to its price tag. To get past these challenges, we need to rethink how we approach obesity treatment. It's worth asking why we're quick to invest in treatments for other serious health issues, but hold back when it comes to obesity. A lot of this comes from the idea that people are "responsible" for their weight, leading some to believe the cost of treatment shouldn’t be covered. But to truly move forward, we need to rethink this approach. I’ve offered other key takeaways on this topic that can help navigate the many obstacles in obesity treatment. Tune in to the full episode for more. If you’re ready to take action and explore solutions, the Obesity Action Coalition is a great resource. You can visit their website to find tools and information on how to advocate for better obesity treatment coverage. Connect with me:
. A significant part of the controversy stems from the belief that individuals should bear the financial burden of their weight-related health issues because they are deemed "responsible" for their condition. This perspective overlooks the fact that addressing obesity is not only about individual responsibility but also about ensuring equitable access to necessary medical care. To get past these challenges, we need to rethink how we approach obesity treatment. It's worth asking why we're quick to invest in treatments for other serious health issues but hold back when it comes to obesity. Changing this mindset could lead to better coverage and support for those who need treatment.
