Crossharbour Refuelling Station enables long-distance space travel between distant nebulae, housed on an uninhabited planet that is countless lightyears from the human sector of space. It is operated by the Myrmalir – fungal creatures that emit a phosphorescent glow and live to serve their benevolent ruling force: the Hypogene.

The skeleton crew is made up of Bark, the curmudgeonly but devoted senior coordinator counting down the days until he can see his son again, and Bramble, a promising doctoral candidate whose research could change her people’s future if she doesn’t get distracted by artefacts from the planet’s past. Because there is more to this planet than the Hypogene has told them, and an unusual influence is guiding them to discover long-buried secrets.

The Moonray has not long left Crossharbour when a colossal tragedy leaves only one survivor: Solent, a junior pilot who is so terrified by what happens that he claims he can’t remember anything. A feral force is threatening the continued existence of life in this corner of space, with Crossharbour itself in terrible peril.

When trouble with the TARDIS leaves the Doctor and Kim-Ly trapped on Crossharbour, the daily difficulties of adapting to a completely alien way of life is the least of their worries. As a web of deception and danger reveals itself, the travellers must do all they can to survive the consequences of unearthing the truth…

Story 209.4 - The Prague Spring part four

August 1968. Czechoslovakia is enjoying a period of political liberalisation. Alexander Dubček is trying to secure his country greater liberties, but it will come at a cost. When the TARDIS brings the Doctor and Kim-Ly to Prague, this freedom is nearly at an end, and the travellers are able to see life on the cusp of the Soviet invasion.

Married couple Ludvik and Jozka want to play music and raise their daughter, but the threat of conflict is forcing them to decide how far they will go to keep their family safe. Hapless diplomat Alistair wants to make a difference, but his boss, Valentine, refuses to intervene, and he’s worried that the woman he loves is getting involved in dangerous matters.

But it isn’t only the advance of the Red Army that they have to worry about: the alien Koe-Maw are also visiting Prague, and the Doctor wonders whether their promise of salvation is all it seems. As a dark day approaches, can the Doctor and Kim-Ly keep the Czech people from making a cataclysmic mistake that would change the fate of not only the Prague Spring, but of the entire world?

Rouen, France. 1916.

The doctors and nurses of No. 5 General field hospital did what they could to patch up the wounded and get them back to the front line. It was a place Nurse Millie Foley thought she could do some good and contribute to the war effort, where Private Fergus McNish thought his troubled life would surely end after being wounded in action, and where Major Edgar Rankin was secretly glad to have been posted, feeling safer away from the fighting.

When Corporal James Rutherford is injured, he is tended to by the kind Nurse Foley and a mysterious and often insubordinate Doctor. But it is the strange Lady in White who tries to soothe Rutherford’s ills and wishes to show him the ultimate act of mercy. She claims he has one day left to live, but that can’t be right, can it? Only the Lady in White can see his true pain, and only he can see her.

With his TARDIS missing, presumed stolen, and limited assistance from a field hospital unwilling to believe in these ethereal beings that only the dying can see, the Doctor must discover the truth behind the Ladies in White—an opponent even he can’t perceive—soon, or humanity will face a conflict that could eclipse even the horrors of the Great War…
