Laura Brady has been advocating for, training in and talking about accessibility in publishing for longer than almost anyone, and we are deeply privileged to have her join us for this fascinating talk on all things accessible publishing. Episode 2: Ken Jones, Founder of Circular Software

Saison 1 · Épisode 2

vendredi 3 mai 2024Durée 56:40

For our second episode I wanted to introduce Ken Jones, who tells his remarkable story of growing up working in the family printing press, becoming an early digital pioneer in 'Big Publishing', and then breaking out on his own to found a successful software company building tools for the industry.

We talk through his unique journey, and reflect on how a task-oriented, human-centric approach led him to produce some really deeply useful tools for the ‘real world’ problems faced by publishers, in a world of idealised standards and walled gardens.

For our first episode I was thrilled to welcome Richard Orme, CEO of the DAISY Consortium, the global organisation that has been driving accessible publishing technology change since 1996. Richard is an amazing individual with a long and rich history in accessible software and standards development, and our conversation covered his fascinating story, as well as the many ways that accessibility links the worlds of technology and the humans using it.

Episode 10: The Work Will Continue - Legal Special with Lainey Feingold and Eve Hill

Saison 1 · Épisode 10

mardi 25 février 2025Durée 01:03:09

The Digital Publishing Podcast returns! Times have certainly changed since the last episode, so we have 2 expert lawyers in the field of accessible publishing, Lainey Feingold and Eve Hill, joining me and my new co-host Simon Holt to discuss where we’re at, what’s changed and what hasn’t.

This was an unusual episode to record, as it wades into politics in a way this podcast doesn't normally. But in this critical historical moment, where disability rights in the US are under threat in such a blunt and ill-thought-out way, there is no room for 'both sides'. That said, we stay practical and optimistic, with 2 of the best experts in the business helping to understand the reality of the current situation.

mercredi 21 août 2024Durée 57:47

Episode 7: Missionary Zeal - with Kate Whittaker, Digital Learning Consultant

Saison 1 · Épisode 7

samedi 3 août 2024Durée 01:24:41

Episode 6: The Focus Locus Hocus Pocus - with Huw Alexander, Managing Director at textBOX

Saison 1 · Épisode 6

vendredi 19 juillet 2024Durée 01:12:38

The best thing about running this show is being able to bring my favourite people on to tell their stories. Huw Alexander is not just one of the nicest people in the publishing accessibility space, but also a true inspiration to me, having branched out from a large publisher to found his own company, in the highly-timely sector of image description. We learn about his fantastic journey, and dive deep into the fascinating and challenging world of image descriptions for diverse publishing. And yes, we talk about AI…
