| In My Skin - with Will Roach | 16 Aug 2024 | 01:01:44 | |
This week Josh and Mpona are joined by special guest, Development Editor extraordinaire Will Roach. We're discussing the final episode of series two of IN MY SKIN on the BBC. Following Bethan, a 17-year old living in South Wales with a bi-polar mother and an abusive father, she does everything she can to seem normal to her friends and teachers - but can she keep the facade up forever? It’s serous subject matter, but writer Kayleigh Llewellyn presents her semi-autobiographical story with such tenderness and light that it amounts to one of the most touching and life-affirmed shows out there. We'll be discussing depictions of mental health on TV, convincing teen dialogue and how to perfectly close off a character's story arc. Next time, we will be watching the climactic final episode of series 2 of INDUSTRY on HBO/BBC.
| Giri/Haji | 02 Aug 2024 | 01:11:11 | |
This week on The Denouement Podcast, Josh and Mpona are looking at the final episode of GIRI/HAJI on Netflix. On the one hand it’s a story about the Yakuza v London gangsters, gun battles and shady detectives. But it’s also about duty, shame, and the melancholy of the big city. We get into how best to tell women’s stories in a masculine narrative, climactic structuring of a good finale, the joy or recognisable locations, and - of course - interpretive dance routines in noir thrillers.
| The Society | 19 Jul 2024 | 01:05:05 | |
Running a functioning democratic society is difficult at the best of times - even tougher if you’re seventeen. This week on The Denouement, Josh and Mpona are taking a trip to the town of New Ham to discuss the final episode of series one of The Society on Netflix. If you’ve not seen it, imagine a cross between The Lord of the Flies, The Leftovers and Gossip Girl. We will be talking about why its a good thing all the teens in this show have terrible fashion, the conspicuous absence of identity politics in New Ham, the reason why every childbirth scene on TV is exactly the same, and - of course - military coups (the ‘p’ is not silent). New time, we will be watching Giri/Haji - the finest ever British-Japanese Detective drama - available to stream on Netflix.

Covey Brown) as told by a series of post-humous voice recording playing out to her adult children. This show is a celebration of family, culture, inheritance, and the spectrum of Caribbean experience throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. Featuring stunning locations, high family drama, and a dizzying array of flashbacks. Next time on The Denouement, we will be watching Truelove on Channel 4.
| The Leftovers S1 - The Prodigal Son Returns | 06 Jun 2025 | 01:10:50 | |
For our first episode of season two of The Denouement, Josh and Mpona are discussing a biggie: the final episode of season one of The Leftovers on HBO and Now.
Three years after an unexplained phenomenon called "the sudden departure" where 2% of the world's population vanished into thin air, the town of Mapleton, New York, and their beleaguered police chief, Kevin Garvey, struggle to hold it all together.
This discussion has been a long time coming - it's one of Josh's all time faves, and this podcast was the perfect excuse to make Mpona (and all of you!) watch it. We're tackling big themes such as life, death, religion, cults, family and grief.
Next time, we will be watching the final episode of series two of the delightfully sexy sitcom Cheaters on the BBC.

| Cheaters (seasons 1 & 2) | 17 Oct 2025 | 01:23:59 | |
We're talking about the hilarious and thought provoking BBC iPlayer comedy CHEATERS. The story of two South London couples, living on the same street, whose lives are tunred upside down by infidelity. What starts off as a sharp zinger of a sitcom evolves into a thoughtful and well-observed show about relationships and sexuality. Plus, it's very, very funny. The episodes are super short, but there is so much to discuss! As always, Josh and Mpona get into the details of the plot - so be warned, there will be spoilers. Next time, we are shifting gears to talk about the dark and disturbing British crime thriller: THE CROW GIRL on Paramount +. As Mpona would say, dun dun DUN! Make sure you've seen it before you listen along. Bisous! x
