Ep. 115 - Peter Rollins ”Atheism for Lent 2021”02 Feb 202101:16:33

Guest Info/Bio: This week I welcome back our dear friend Peter Rollins to talk all about his annual Atheism for Lent course. To sign up for Atheism for Lent go to Pete’s website: www.peterrollins.com for tickets.

Pete is an author, philosopher, storyteller, producer, and public speaker who has gained an international reputation for overturning traditional notions of religion and forming “churches” that preach the Good News that we can’t be satisfied, that life is difficult, and that we don’t know the secret.

Challenging the idea that faith concerns questions relating to belief; attacking the distinction between the sacred and the secular. It critiques theism and it sets aside questions regarding life after death to explore the possibility of life before death.

Peter gained his higher education from Queens University, Belfast where he earned degrees (with distinction) in Scholastic Philosophy (BA Hons), Political Theory and Social Criticism (MA) and Post-Structural thought (PhD).

Richard leads a bible study each week for fifty inmates at the maximum security French-Robertson unit, and any given week Richard drives the van, preaches or washes dishes at Freedom Fellowship, a church feeding and reaching out to those on the margins. Finally, on his popular blog Experimental Theology Richard will spend enormous amounts of time writing about the theology of Johnny Cash, the demonology of Scooby-Doo or his latest bible class on monsters.

Guest Published Works: The Authenticity of Faith; The Slavery of Death; Unclean; Reviving Old Scratch: Demons and the Devil for Doubters and the Disenchanted; and Trains, Jesus, and Murder: The Gospel According to Johnny Cash.

Ep. 111 - David Zach ”Human Trafficking pt. 1”16 Nov 202001:07:19

Guest Info/Bio:

This week I welcome David Zach. David Zach is the lead singer and songwriter for the rock band Remedy Drive as well as an advocate in the fight against human trafficking. The band has recorded two concept albums to shine a light on slavery and to celebrate the modern day abolition. The band's community and fan base has contributed around $350,000 in donations and in-kind donations to the counter trafficking organization The Exodus Road.

When the band is not on tour David volunteers with The Exodus Road as an undercover operative. He spends time in brothels and in the red-light districts where underage girls and boys are sold by the hour. His role while undercover is to identify instances of minors being sold, and to capture actionable evidence of their trafficking using covert gear, some of which is funded by the Remedy Drive community and fan base.

Upon returning from deployment overseas David uses the band and his platform to advocate for the victims of human trafficking, to shine a light on slavery and to speak about his time overseas with the goal of recruiting and funding the fight which is the modern underground railroad. He has spoken at many of the major festivals during talkback sessions, main stages and seminar tents. He also speaks at colleges, conferences, high school campuses and churches. David's message centers upon a core belief of both Remedy Drive and The Exodus Road - "Justice is in the hands of the ordinary".

To hear about raids/rescues and everything going on the front lines text “remedy” to 51555.

Ep. 109 - Dan Koch ”The Rapture/End Times Theology”26 Oct 202001:35:07

Guest Info/BIo:

This week I have a fascinating conversation with Dan Koch. Dan got his start in professional songwriting in 2002 with his band Sherwood. They released three full albums and a handful of shorter EPs, toured the US, Europe & Japan, and generally had a great time. As that season of life ended, he settled in Seattle and began transitioning into writing music for film & TV. He’s been fortunate to work with some great people, and has landed some 80+ national TV & radio spots in about 8 years. Dan is also host of the You Have Permission, Depolarize!, and Reconstruct podcasts.

Ep. 100 - Chelsea Meyer & Ryan Wilkins ”Divorce”06 May 202002:22:17

Guest Info/BIo: We’re back! This episode should have been out a couple of weeks ago but despite sheltering in place, working from home, having all of my groceries delivered, and only having contact with my ex-wife and daughter - I (John) still managed to get Covid. Fortunately I was able to recover at home and didn’t need to go to the hospital, but it took me out of commission for a few weeks. Be careful out there! Anyway, here is part 2 of the Divorce Series. This episode means a lot to me because I was able to talk to two of my friends about their first-hand experiences with divorce. The first half of this episode is a conversation with Chelsea Meyer who just got remarried recently and is now a clinical mental health counselor. The second half of the episode is with Ryan Wilkins the co-owner/co-founder of Olentangy River Brewing and the Senior Director, Communications & Facilities at the Ronald McDonald House. I pray that for those of you who need it that this is helpful. Special Music By: Ryan Wilkins Enjoy the music? Ep 92 - Mel Forsythe ”Anastasis”08 Nov 201901:35:27

Guest Info/Bio: This week is a very special and personal episode for us. On November 10, 2018 we lost our dear friend Simon Forsythe. This week we speak with Mel, his wife and co-lead pastor of LIFE Church about Simon, their church, and Simon’s legacy. Melanie Forsythe is the Lead Pastor of LIFE Vineyard Church, a vibrant faith community in the heart of Columbus, Ohio. She came to faith in the post-Christian landscape of Australia. There, Melanie was a youth pastor for many years before moving to America alongside her now late husband and co-founder of LIFE Vineyard. In spite of the unexpected loss of her husband in late 2018, Melanie is unapologetically in love with the Gospel, and full of hope and vision for the future of the local church. Her Selah conference, held annually in Columbus reaches women from all walks of life, calling them to live lives of authentic devotion to Jesus. This episode is dedicated in loving memory to Simon.
