| Worst Ever Christmas Foods | 23 Dec 2021 | 00:14:28 | |
Don’t worry. This is not an episode about shaming foods or nutrients, like alcohol and sugar, and making you feel guilty about your food choices over the festive season. We’re not judgmental nor do we make you feel guilty about food. It’s not what we do. This episode is a compilation of traditional Christmas foods that are just plain gross. Foods that you know might be served on your family’s table but you avoid it at all costs, simply because you can’t stand it! To help me put this episode together I rallied the troops over on my Facebook page for their worst Christmas foods ever! This podcast is proudly brought to you by the Capital Chemist. | 12 Kitchen Essentials for Healthy Eating | 22 Dec 2021 | 00:15:34
You may have good nutritional knowledge and be willing to make positive changes to your eating habits but without adequate kitchen skills you’ll be left feeling frustrated and bored. If you can’t translate that nutrition information into a meal on your plate, three times per day, seven days per week, 52 weeks per year, what’s the point? You don’t need to be a masterchef, or even like cooking, but you do need the ability to create tasty and enjoyable food without too much fuss. Otherwise, you’ll easily default back to tasty, convenient foods when you’re tired of plain chicken and boiled broccoli. In this episode, I’ve got 12 kitchen items that I believe are essential for eating healthy and enjoyable meals! This podcast is proudly brought to you by the Capital Chemist. Australia's premier community pharmacy where loyalty matters. Back when this podcast was produced, we were called The Healthy Eating Hub. We've had a re-brand since and now called Ayla Health.

| How Much Carbs Should I Eat If I’m A Diabetic With Dietitian Melissa Yip : Part 2 | 24 Jun 2021 | 00:12:59 | |
If I had a dollar for everytimeI heard the statement: “You need to stop eating carbs if you have type 2 diabetes.” I’d be a pretty wealthy lady! It’s unfortunate, however, that such poor advice is so readily touted by the mainstream media and some health professionals because it’s not actually helpful. You don’t need to cut out carbs if you have type 2 diabetes, however, the types and how much you do eat, does matter. In this episode, to help clear up some confusion, I’m chatting to dietitian Melissa Yip from The Healthy Eating Clinic about how much carbs you should eat if you’re a diabetic! | Why We Shouldn’t Demonise Sugar | 08 Jun 2021 | 00:18:07
Throwing around the line ‘sweet poison’ in regard to sugar has become confusing for many people. Why? Because sugar is in nearly every single type of food. And many of these foods should be included in your diet every single day. If you want to truly be ‘sugar free’ then you’d need to eat only chicken, meat, fish and oil. I can easily foresee a 100% meat diet becoming problematic for you. Constipation, for one thing, would be a problem, and it’s also distinctly lacking in a handful of key nutrients. In this episode, I want to chat through WHY qualified nutritionists and dietitians don’t recommend going ‘sugar free’. | Beating Sugar Cravings: Part 2 | 03 Jun 2021 | 00:15:55
I’m going to help you manage your sugar cravings and as a result reduce your intake of added sugars WITHOUT telling you to just: cut it out! There will be no scaremongering, telling you how evil it is (it’s not evil) or guilting you by going into detail about the poor health outcomes that occur from consuming too much. At the end of the day, sugary foods are just food. They hold no moral value. They don’t determine your worth and value as a human being. They provide your body with energy, albeit with little nutrients along with it and they can be easy to overeat. Simple as that. If you find that your sugar cravings feel out of control and your sweet tooth is impairing your health or making weight loss difficult, here are 10 practical, evidence-based tips to help you make food decisions that you’re happy with. | Lessons from a Vegan Diet | 27 May 2021 | 00:16:45
For many vegans, the choice to completely eliminate animal products has less to do with health and more to do with strong ethical convictions about the treatment and use of animals. Not to mention the effect that our current food system has on our environment. In modern day cultures. food has become much more than a source of nourishment. For many people it can be about making a statement of who they are, what they stand for and a reflection of their overall belief system. Here at The Hub, we believe that regardless of your ethical convictions, religion or belief system, that healthy eating applies to you. Whether you choose to become vegan, vegetarian or an omnivore, with smart planning and perhaps a little bit of help from an experienced professional, your diet can also help improve your overall health and well-being whilst still reflecting who you are and what you believe. Research does indicate that well planned vegan diets do offer a range of health benefits. There’s a lot we can learn from a good vegan diet. | Overcome Boredom Eating | 26 May 2021 | 00:15:20
One of the hardest eating habits to overcome is boredom eating. We can easily consume excess energy during the day by snacking on food purely because we can’t find anything better to do or because we can’t be bothered doing anything else. Maybe your work day has started to drag or your daily routine has become mundane. Whatever the reason, eating due to boredom is our way of finding something to provide fulfillment, or a fix. | My Day on a Plate: Part 4 | 20 May 2021 | 00:16:06
Spoiler alert: I don't eat activated charcoal or drink detox smoothies. Why not? Activated charcoal is used to treat drug overdoses and poisoning; and my liver does all the detoxing my body needs.I do, however, have a handful of healthy things that I do every day, on purpose, because the scientific evidence for their effect on my health is convincing enough for me to make the effort. To help explain these healthy habits, I'm going to tell you, openly and honestly, about what I eat in a day. Dietitian Clare Wolski is the gut health expert on my team and one of the things she frequently reminds her clients of, is the fact that our gut symptoms are not just the result of the foods we eat. It’s a complex old system, the gastrointestinal tract, and as such Clare always educates her clients on the other key factors effecting symptoms and overall gut health so that they can get the best results from working with her. In this episode, we’ll discuss the other lifestyle factors that affect our gut health and how you can make some small changes to feel better in your tummy! | The Diet Industry Has Failed You | 12 May 2021 | 00:17:11
One of the biggest frustrations of my job is working with people to change food choice behaviour in an environment that’s highly influenced by diet culture. And when I say diet culture, I mean the marketing messages of products, detoxes, cleanses, shake programs and so called ‘experts’ pushing their agenda to sell you a gimmick based around food rules, restrictive eating practices and poor science. I’ve been working very hard over the past few years to create a solution to this problem. My solution is by no means perfect and we’re still building and refining it, however, I want to talk you through the process of how you should approach dietary change so you can stop listening to the diet industry and feel confident in your food choices for life! | Just Love Your Body | 11 May 2021 | 00:16:34
Just love your body. It’s the only one you’ve got. Has anyone else found that this is easier said than done? I know I have. If you’ve been hanging out on social media in recent years, it’s likely you’ve come across some form of the self-love movement. And it’s a super great thing. I like that there’s pushback to the traditional ‘ideal body’ portrayed by popular culture but sometimes the pressure to get that ‘right’ as well is just as overwhelming. Here’s my take on body positivity. Life's too short to live with food stress, to become a habit builder and not a crash dieter check out Kate's course at Healthy Eating Hub Hosted on Acast. | When should you follow a low carb diet? | 10 May 2021 | 00:15:47
There is lots of confusion around carbohydrates and low-carb diets. Every day I chat to clients who say things about carbohydrates like: “Today I ate this massive bread roll. It was delicious but I know that it’s too much carbs and bread is bad, right?” Or “I can’t believe the Australian Dietary Guidelines recommends eating fruit. Don’t they know that fruit is full of sugar?” Or how about “Gosh I love pasta! But how bad is it for you!? I ate a whole bowl the other day and felt sooo guilty about it!” In this episode, I’ll unpack the key factors that might determine when you need to reduce your carb intake and adopt a low carb eating pattern, as well as how much carbohydrate you should be eating to be ‘low carb’. It’s not as restrictive as you might think! Life's too short to live with food stress, to become a habit builder and not a crash dieter check out Kate's course at Healthy Eating Hub Hosted on Acast.
