 Welcome to the costumes of Hollywood podcast, where Coleen Scott and Larry McQueen dish about his amazing collection of motion picture costume design.

Respected, as a leading Hollywood costume historian and archivist, Larry McQueen has been responsible for the authentication of film costumes and the estimation of their value For the most respected auction companies in the world. He worked as an archivist with MGM United artists for 13 years, creating and maintaining a prop and costume collection of MGM films.

Co-host Coleen Scott is a professional costume designer, author and educator with a Master's Degree in Costume Design from Boston University. She's the author of The Costumes of Burlesque from Routledge. Coleen is tenured faculty in the theater arts department at Santa Rosa Junior College, and a proud member of IATSE/USA 829.

This podcast highlights their book with publisher Routledge Taylor and Francis, The Costumes of Hollywood with in-depth

conversations about the over 100 costumes highlighted in it.

This season is all about Chapter One: Best Picture Oscar nominees and winners.

This week we are talking about the 1936 film Romeo and Juliet starring Leslie Howard and Norma Shearer. It was nominated for best picture, but its not Larry's favorite...not like the Zeffirelli version from the 60's. But this is the costume we've got, so here we go!

This week we are discussing the 1945 film Mildred Pierce starring Joan Crawford. We have a lot to say about this movie, and this costume, and Coleen has strong opinions about Joan's stint as a nightlife dancer and chorus girl. This is a good one, our best yet! Two corrections from our book, this movie was nominated for best picture, but lost to The Lost Weekend. Also Crawford left her MGM contract in 1943 (not the late 1930s), and signed almost immediately with Warner Brothers. Thanks to Robin on Amazon for the notes.
