351: From Caddies Abroad To VGN Finals
12 Nov 2025
01:16:01
The night starts with a new vertical stream and a salute to Veterans Day, then we dive straight into golf that spans continents. Trey just spent three weeks in the Philippines and brought back stories you won’t hear on resort brochures: mountain golf in Bagiuo under a passing typhoon, humid greens that refuse to speed up, and a caddie culture where service comes first—your own cart, your own caddie, and sometimes an extra umbrella caddie for good measure. We talk about how to set expectations abroad, why communicating your caddie style matters, and how slow play can drain the value of any round if nobody enforces pace.
Back in Vegas, the nostalgia hits at Las Vegas Country Club while we gear up for the VGN finals at Revere. We trade views vs. vibes, share practice rounds and weather intel, and set goals for two days that will decide bragging rights through winter. Along the way, we unpack the Internet Invitational: underrated talent, wild bets, and the way pressure turns putting brutal. It’s a look at creator golf that respects real skill and still asks smart questions about formats, stakes, and amateur status.
We also unveil our partnership with Gresh Golf Academy, a serious training facility built for improvement, not entertainment. Think Foresight-powered bays, private studios, a legit indoor putting green, chipping space, and a real-sand bunker—plus coaching, junior development, and mobility work. If you’re chasing tighter dispersion and better speed through the cold months, this is where the grind gets measurable.
Hit play for a tour through global golf culture, a local league finale with stakes, and a new home base for year-round practice. Subscribe, drop us a review, and tell a friend where you want to play next—or whether you ride with caddies or go solo on reads.
A milestone show with real meat on the bone: we toast 350 and dive headfirst into the most interesting week golf has seen in a while. We start on home turf—Boulder Creek running lightning fast, Legacy’s greens turning to velvet, and the eternal enemy of good golf: slow play. With new GPS carts, engaged marshals, and some tough love for multi-tee offenders, we break down how a course can nudge pace back to enjoyable without alienating players.
Then we head to the Internet Invitational, a rare YouTube series that earns the hype. The magic isn’t perfect golf; it’s format and edit. Scramble into alternate shot, teams reshuffled, real stakes, and enough personality to make you care without drowning in forced drama. We unpack what worked, what seemed manufactured, and why structure beats spectacle if creator golf wants staying power.
Gearheads get their segment too. We debate Scotty Cameron’s “low torque” designs—one thoughtful, one looking suspiciously like a welded workaround—and contrast them with Odyssey’s tech-forward ZT lineup. Forward CG, tungsten-heavy fronts, and AI-informed faces promise straighter starts and better energy transfer. But we ask the only question that matters on a putting green: does it help you start the ball on line at your speed, more often, under pressure?
Finally, the big shift: LIV moving to 72 holes. No rule-bending here; they met the OWGR standard. That’s a step toward legitimacy, not a cure-all. Shotgun starts still confuse viewers, team branding still lacks soul, and broadcasts still need a cleaner story. The upside? More meaningful leaderboards and a path to points. The downside? Fans still get split fields when they want the best playing the best more often.
Tap play to hear the whole ride—course intel, creator golf that’s actually smart, honest gear talk, and what LIV’s pivot really means. If you enjoy the show, share it with a golf friend, hit subscribe, and drop your take: Which putter tech would you trust, and are you watching more or less now that LIV is 72 holes?
341: Play It Before It's Gone, The Disappearing Vegas Golf Landscape
20 Aug 2025
01:12:28
The disappearing golf landscape of Las Vegas takes center stage as the hosts discuss the imminent closure of Desert Pines Golf Club. While opinions on the course vary dramatically—one host defends it passionately while others criticize its conditions—they all acknowledge the sobering reality that Las Vegas is losing yet another golf course. This loss reflects the broader challenges faced by desert golf courses struggling with water conservation requirements in an era of climate change.
Southern Nevada's water conservation efforts, while necessary and impressively forward-thinking, have created a new reality for golf courses in the region. The hosts explore how this impacts course conditions, especially during the brutal summer months when temperatures consistently exceed 100 degrees. They call for understanding and patience from golfers who might be quick to criticize courses without knowing the challenges they face behind the scenes.
The conversation shifts to national golf news, including Team USA's underwhelming Ralph Lauren Ryder Cup apparel, described as predictably nautical and unchanged from previous years. They speculate about rumors that Rory McIlroy might defect to LIV Golf, though they question whether LIV would be getting their money's worth now that Bryson DeChambeau has emerged as golf's YouTube star.
Excitement builds as the hosts announce their official sponsorship with Garson Golf, offering listeners 15% off with code DAYLIGHT15. The episode includes a live wedge giveaway to a lucky viewer and wraps up with details about their upcoming Nebraska golf trip featuring courses like Landmand and Prairie Club.
If you love golf in Las Vegas, don't wait to play the courses you've been putting off. As water restrictions tighten and development pressures increase, the golf landscape is changing rapidly. Once these courses are gone, they're gone forever.

246: Vegas Golf Talk, King of the Green, Brysons Underpar Life, and Joe is scared of Golf Robots
01 Nov 2023
01:15:07
Episode 246
We have a busy week here in Vegas! The Vegas Golf Network is hosting two events this week. On Sunday, we're playing our final regular season event of the year out at Las Vegas National. The guys chime in on why they're looking forward to this one.
On Thursday, our King of the Green IV putting contest will take place at Angel Park on the 9-hole, natural grass putting course.
We broke down some of the standings for the VGN Season and also talked about how the KOG event will take place.
We spent some time at Skill Money Games, a new tech company based here in Vegas, and we all, except Joe, shared our thoughts on the start-up company and how wagering on yourself could be the future of Simulation Sports.
Bryson Dechambeau is in the news again. This time for his new adventure in the "Top Golf" style facility he's calling "Underpar Life." Everyone let it be known the concept is solid, but wow, that name is hideous.
Joe, Jeremy, and Dan all got some golf in, much to the surprise of Matt! Paiute and Coyote Springs are where they tee'd it up this past weekend.
Joe went "off script" about his fear of Robots taking over golf, and we're 100% blaming Joe Rogan for the assist on that one.
Matt has some new LAGP Gear headed his way, including the new LAGOLF ball.
We wrapped up the show with the odds for the World Wide Technologies Championship in Cabo this weekend. Which will be the first Tour event ever to be played on a Tiger Woods Designed course, El Cardonal at Diamante.

245: Our attempt at a better show. The Golf Stop, Aces, Knights, Rebels, Zozo and Mel Gibson
25 Oct 2023
01:11:37
EPISODE 245
It wasn't a difficult task to upend last week's debacle. We tried, but you'll have to be the judge to see if we made up the shitty show a week ago.
Despite not having a lot of "Golf News," we still had some things to discuss.
The Golf Stop is a new Simulator Lounge in Henderson (West Henderson, along the St Rose Corridor, to be exact) that is opening up in a few weeks, and Matt got a sneak peek at the inside of the new facility. https://thegolfstop.com/
LIV Golf made a small sampling of a news story when their appeal for OWGR points was shot down again, which left us questioning if they'll ever abandon the escapade and focus on making their events more relevant or continue trying to make it happen. https://www.livgolf.com/
Joe finally ended his month-long hiatus of not playing Golf as Jeremy, Dan, and he played out at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Sunday. As for me, well, I'm "taking a break" from Golf as some family was in town and didn't allow me to get out on the course.
We did chat a little about the weird FedEx Fall point allocation process and gave a rundown of the "The Next 10," which is the end goal for guys playing in these seven events. Much to our surprise, there has not been a lot of movement in the standings.
Jeremy questioned Joe about his desire to play a persimmons driver, and his response came directly from the pages of the Soul Golf Bible.
The VGN has two events over the next two weeks. Our King of the Green IV contest is out at Angel Park, and then the regular season's final event takes place at Las Vegas National. Reports in have Natty being in DAMN GOOD SHAPE! https://vegasgolfnetwork.com/
We wrapped up the show with some totally off-topic discussions that concluded with a few "Passion of the Christ" references that Joe for sure didn't want to get into! https://g.co/kgs/XjSX2F
Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone, and we'll catch you next week with a new episode of The Chasing Daylight Podcast!

340: Play Free, Missing Your Tee Time Might Just Improve Your Game
13 Aug 2025
01:20:23
Golf is more than just a game – it's about showing up on time, adapting to changing environments, and sometimes finding your best swing when you least expect it. This week's episode begins with "Matt's Apology Tour," a hilarious recounting of tournament email mishaps that left Joe rushing to make his tee time. The unexpected twist? After arriving late and playing without pressure, Joe shot an impressive 81 despite two triple bogeys, revealing how "playing free" might be the secret mental approach many golfers need.
The conversation shifts to the troubling transformation of Cascada Golf Course, where water restrictions have dramatically altered its identity. Once defined by beautiful waterfalls (hence the name), the course now features dry creek beds and dying palm trees. This opens a broader discussion about Las Vegas golf courses disappearing at an alarming rate, with each closure making tee times at remaining facilities harder to secure. The hosts emphasize how every golfer shares responsibility as part of the "grounds crew" to preserve what remains.
Equipment talk dominates the middle segment, with putters taking center stage. From Garson Grips to the TaylorMade Spider ZT and Goodwood putters, the hosts dive deep into the personal preferences that make putter selection so unique. A moment of comic relief comes when they share photos of a friend's severely beaten Scotty Cameron, described colorfully as a "bean and cheese burrito" due to its worn appearance.
The episode rounds out with professional golf discussions, including reflections on the Bandon Amateur tournament, debates about sponsor exemptions for PGA Tour elevated events, and the contrasting competitive approaches of Tiger Woods versus today's stars like Scottie Scheffler. Throughout it all runs a thread of genuine passion for golf and the camaraderie it creates, reminding listeners why this game connects us all.
Whether you're a weekend warrior or a daily player, this episode captures the spirit of golf in all its frustrating, hilarious, and occasionally transcendent glory. Tune in every Tuesday at 8:30 PM Pacific for more golf talk that feels like a conversation with your best friends on the course.
244: Shriners Wrap Up, Lexi Talk, LIV in Vegas, Matt's Struggles and Joe's Struggles with Technology
18 Oct 2023
01:14:46
After one of the best shows we've ever put out, the Golf Gods put us back in our place. YouTube wouldn't work, Joe kept having connectivity issues, and Matt was stressed out from the moment we pushed RECORD.
Nevertheless, we still managed to put out an hour of content for you!
Probably the most successful Shriners tournament in recent years took place this past weekend, with Tom Kim going back-to-back and earning his third career win. Harry Hall and several other local PGA Tour Professionals had a good tournament, but the buzz was all created by Lexi Thompson, and what we believe was her excellent play for the two days she was out there.
Matty G checked in with the weather FORECast for this weekend, and we covered the latest VGN event that took place out at Boulder City Muni.
Matt is in a HUGE funk with his game that has now leaked into his putting. 40 Putts on Saturday was enough to send him again down the rabbit hole of what's wrong with his game.
We wrapped it up by looking at the ZOZO Field and odds and made our picks for the Tournament.
Thanks for checking out the show! This one was a doozie, but we pulled it off despite all the technology glitches! We'll be back next week better than ever!

There's something almost magical about hitting the road with good friends and discovering unexpected golf treasures along the way. Our recent Arizona golf adventure delivered exactly that kind of experience – from world-class courses to surprisingly delicious roadside burritos, and everything in between.
The journey began at 2nd Swing Golf in Scottsdale, where we encountered a scene that would warm any golf enthusiast's heart: dozens of people waiting outside before opening time, eager to explore the incredible selection inside. Once through the doors, we discovered a wonderland of golf equipment – private fitting bays, an expansive putting green with PuttView technology, walls lined with every imaginable brand of used clubs, and even rare Scotty Cameron collections that had us geeking out completely.
But the real highlight was playing We-ko-pa's Cholla course, where the conditions defied belief. Despite having been punched just two weeks prior, the Bermuda greens were flawless – a testament to the incredible maintenance team. The course layout perfectly utilized the natural elevation changes, creating a dynamic playing experience that had us all agreeing this might have been the best golf of our trip. Special shoutout to Todd in outside services, whose exceptional attention to detail elevated our experience from great to unforgettable.
Our stay in Payson at the Mansion on Main provided the perfect basecamp for exploring private courses, Chaparral Pines and The Rim Club – exclusive venues we accessed through the Beautiful Golf Courses and Fore Hadley Foundation fundraiser. These courses sparked friendly debates among us about routing, scenery, and playability, with The Rim's dramatic "hold my beer" back nine featuring some truly spectacular holes. We're already planning how to bid in this year's fundraiser to discover more hidden gems.
The trip reminded us why these getaways matter so much – they're not just about the golf, but about disconnecting from daily responsibilities and reconnecting with what makes this game special. As we told each other repeatedly throughout the episode, if you haven't taken a golf trip with friends lately, do it. Do it for your game, do it for the memories, but most importantly, do it for your mental health.

338: Garsen Grips: How Motocross, Modeling, & 85 TOUR WINS Built Golf's Most Innovative Grip Designer
01 Aug 2025
00:54:41
Bernerd Garsen's journey to becoming one of golf's most innovative grip designers reads like a Hollywood script. After racing motocross professionally and suffering career-ending injuries, a chance encounter led him to an eight-year modeling career across Europe and South Africa. It was during this time that his passion for golf reignited, eventually leading him to create Garsen Grips – a company now boasting over 85 professional tour wins, including Olympic gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The creation of his first grip came from pure necessity while working as a golf instructor. Noticing how students struggled with conventional grips when attempting to position their hands properly, Garsen cut apart three existing grips and glued them together with shoe glue to create his first prototype. This DIY approach led to his patented Edge Grip design, featuring edges for optimal thumb placement that puts the hands in a more neutral position.
What truly sets Garsen apart in the equipment industry is his commitment to performance over marketing hype. Unlike larger competitors who pay players, coaches, and even offer luxury watches as incentives, Garsen has earned every one of his tour wins organically. Players like Henrik Stenson (British Open), Tony Finau, and Lydia Ko (Olympic gold) choose his grips purely for performance. This authenticity hasn't come without challenges – Bernerd candidly describes competitors attempting to copy his designs, spreading rumors about his company failing, and even trying to interfere with his manufacturing relationships.
The market has validated his approach. Beyond his impressive tour statistics, Garsen now partners with major manufacturers and boutique putter companies for custom co-branded grips. His technical innovations have expanded from the original Edge Grip to the popular Max Grip, Quad Tour, and specialized designs explicitly created for top players like Lydia Ko's custom 15-inch Quad that helped her win three consecutive tournaments.
Bernerd's story is one of perseverance, innovation, and staying true to his belief that genuine performance trumps marketing dollars. For anyone looking to improve their putting through technology that actually works rather than just looks different, Garsen Grips represents what's possible when passion meets purpose in the golf equipment world.

Fresh off his recent adventure caddying for PGA Professional Colin Inglis at the PGA Championship, PNW Golf Guru Todd Hass joined us to talk about his week in Rochester and what it was like inside the ropes and the fairways of a Major golf championship!
For those who don't know Todd, he's one of us. A passionate golfer that grinds it out just like most of us and is quite the gearhead. Hearing his take on the event was a blast, and we think everyone will really enjoy this one.
The Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play event is in Vegas this week at Shadow Creek! We're hoping our media credintials arrive soon so we can get out there and have some coverage for all of you.
We've caught Birdies and Bourbon in the One and Done Challenge. Well, almost. Let's say we closed the gap considerably!
The Charles Schwab Challenge tee's it up this week in Texas! We covered the odds and made out picks for the tournament.
Thanks again to Todd for coming on the show. It was amazing hearing his stories and stresses about caddying in a Major. We're looking to have Colin on in the future as well!

219: Rohrs is back! The VGN in Mesquite and its PGA Championship week!
17 May 2023
01:00:54
EPISODE 219
It's been a long time since we've had Rohrs on the show. He's had some pretty dramatic life-changing experiences and is now living and working for TaylorMade Golf in Naples, FL.
Rohrs chimes in later in the show because we had some business to take care of before we got to the PGA Championship talk.
The Vegas Golf Network held this month's tournament at Conestoga Golf Club in Mesquite, NV. The course was a challenge, and we had 47 players show up to take on ye ole wagon wheel. The wind got us late, but it was a great event and an even better venue.
The renovated Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY, hosts the 2023 PGA Championship this week. Honestly, we're all pretty excited to watch this one, and we didn't really do a deep dive into the history of the course or the event. We did cover the odds and made our picks at the end of the show, but no major in-depth discussion this go around.
Rohrs surprised us with what he thinks has been the biggest surprise from TaylorMade Golf this season, and we had some fun talking about his career hole in ones made number. It's still growing, and recently.
Big shout out to Rohrs for hopping in with us late into the night out n Florida. It was great having him back on the show.
Thanks for listening, and we'll be back next week!

218: Stat Guy is back, Some VGN Preview and a lot of Vegas Golf played this last week
10 May 2023
01:06:32
EPISODE 218
Welcome back, STAT GUY, to the show! Jeremy returned from his hiatus, and we talked about all the golf we've played over the past week here in town and Utah.
Revere is in great shape, and Aliante was as to be expected. Joe tee'd it up in the one-day Member Guest at TPC Summerlin and had a tough time adapting to the new greens.
The next Vegas Golf Network tournament occurs this weekend in Mesquite at Conestoga Golf Club. Mr. Gontarek gave us a little preview of the weather we can expect.
Joe covered the odds for the Byron Nelson this week in Texas at TPC Craig Ranch, and we wrapped up the show with some tinker talk from the Mayor.
Thanks, as always, for checking out the show! Our YouTube channel will start seeing more content now that Matt has his office back, so visit the channel and subscribe!

We are back to a regular show this week, even though Jeremy called in sick. Matt was chatty as ever, talking about his trip to Hawai'i.
The new self-proclaimed "Rental Set Magician" did it again on the Big Island, shooting a good score, and it has him opening a vast rabbit hole because the rental set was all Regular Flex, Game Improvement irons! It was a fun talk.
Joe got in some last-minute golf this last week as his time away from work, tending to his new little one, is winding down. Did he post any scores though? That's the real question.
The NHL Playoffs are in full swing, GO KNIGHTS GO!! and Joe has been on a hot streak with his bets, unlike us as a collective getting steamrolled by Birdies & Bourbon.
Matt had a few Rat Farts we had to clean up with a sincere apology going to Fox 5 Weatherman Matt Gontarek.
We covered the odds for this week's Designated event at Quail Hallow, the Wells Fargo, and had some other Hawaii talk like food, sights, and some other stuff Matt got into while he was there.

Recently, he made the trip to Bandon Dunes and added all the courses on the property to his list. With Matt on vacation (again) this week, we thought it would be fun to sit down with Cliff and talk about his experience at Bandon and compare it to some of the other places he's been to.
Two Bandon fanatics and the King of the Analogy sat down and talked all things Bandon Dunes.
We hope you enjoy this one. Cliff is a blast to talk with and has a passion for the game that would rival many! We're looking forward to the next time he joins us on the show.

215: VGN Major Recap, Slow Play Issues, FedEx Cup Fall 2023 and Jeremy digging in on Matt's Tinkering
19 Apr 2023
01:07:00
EPISODE 215
We held our first Vegas Golf Network MAJOR of the season this past weekend, and once again, Paiute Golf Resort shined like the star it is. And since all three of us tee'd it up in the tournament, we had a little recap about the event.
The PGA Tour announced the "NEW" FedEx Cup Fall; we don't know what to call it. Series, Events, whatever. But it's good news and brings some changes to the Fall events that should make it interesting, to say the least, but it's doubtful any of the top players in the world ever tee it up again in a fall event again, but time will tell.
Another DESIGNATED PGA Tour Event took place, and this one was immediately after a MAJOR! Jon Rahm proved he is the real deal, not only playing in the event but hopping in the booth and analyzing the final groups as they finished up.
We talked about the Cantlay slow play, Spieth almost going back to back, Fitzy and the INSANE 9I from 175 to win in the playoff, and the heat Rory is getting for pulling out of the tournament and not even saying why.
We covered the odds for the PGA Tour team event, and then Jeremy decided to confront Matt on his tinkering as yet another new putter is coming to the bag for the Mayor of Tinkertown.

337: From Lab Golf's Sale to Happy Gilmore's Return
30 Jul 2025
01:22:27
The golf world witnessed two major developments this past week – the shocking acquisition of boutique putter brand L.A.B. Golf by luxury giant LVMH for a reported $200 million and the release of Adam Sandler's long-awaited sequel, Happy Gilmore 2.
The L.A.B. Golf acquisition represents a pivotal moment in the equipment industry as a cult-favorite brand transitions into corporate ownership. While fans and competitors alike sent congratulations to founder Sam Hahn, questions linger about the future direction of these beloved putters. Was this a necessary lifeline for a brand struggling with scaling production and managing growth? Will L.A.B. putters remain accessible or transform into luxury items with price tags to match their new parent company's other offerings? We break down the potential motivations behind the sale, insider perspectives on production challenges, and what this could mean for other boutique golf brands potentially eyeing similar exits.
Happy Gilmore 2 delivers exactly what you'd expect from an Adam Sandler golf comedy – ridiculous scenarios, heartfelt moments, and an impressive roster of cameos from golf's biggest names. The film manages to balance nostalgic callbacks with a surprisingly coherent storyline about redemption. While not cinematic brilliance, it captures the fun spirit of golf that appeals beyond traditional audiences. We analyze the movie's approach to the divide between established tours and upstarts, the standout performances (John Daly steals every scene), and the prominence of actual golf brands throughout the film.
Between planning our upcoming Arizona golf adventure, discussing the challenges facing Vegas courses during extreme heat, and teasing our Nebraska golf expedition, we offer perspective on respecting the hard work of maintenance crews battling water restrictions. With course conditions varying widely across the country, we remind listeners that not every course can or should be Augusta National – especially in August when temperatures soar above 110 degrees.
Follow us on social media and subscribe to our channel for a chance to win exclusive golf gear in our upcoming giveaway. We're here every Tuesday at 8:30 PM PST to bring you the latest conversations happening in the golf world.
Well, that was entertaining, to say the least! The 2023 Masters had it all, slow play, weather delays, a PGA/LIV showdown, and the strangest accumulation of no animosity between the players from both leagues.
I'm sure there were a lot of people, present company included, that believed there would be some fireworks. But we're starting to think the drama is more media-driven than anything else. The players were casual, non-combatant, and pretty damn nice regarding their time on TV and radio when addressing the opposing leagues.
Rahm got the win, Brooks got some much-needed TV Time, and Phil made a run for the ages, literally. Tiger had to WD, Freddy broke Leatherface's record, and Rory decided two days was plenty in Georgia.
We had Cyrus Janssen join us for this recap, and it was a pleasure, as always, to have him on the show.
We did have some Vegas Golf Network chat as we're gearing up for our first Major of the season, and Matt Gontarek gave us the weekend FOREcast for this important tourney out at Paiute!

We like to do Major Preview shows as much as the rest of the golfing podcast world. For this year's preview show, Trey Sanders joined us to talk about the upcoming Major while Stat Guy is taking a little break from the show (and golf)
PGAT/LIV GOLF Drama
So how much will there be? That is what I think everyone is thinking. So far, the pressers and conversations that have taken place have been pretty civil. Will that change? Will there be intense drama as the leaders head down the back stretch on Sunday?
Aside from the PGA and LIV Golf drama, some great stories are taking place. Tiger Woods is playing. That alone should be the headline. The more and more we watch him practice and walk, it's just a matter of time before the GOAT says enough is enough, and I can't do this anymore.
Rory is going for the Career Slam, yet another fantastic headline. Paired with his new role as the leader of the PGA Tour (not an actual role, we're just saying what everyone is thinking) and how well he had been playing, completing the Career Slam would be a fantastic accomplishment!

Our second Vegas Golf Network event of the season took place, and we chatted about the day out at Mountain Falls. Next for the VGN is our first MAJOR of the season, which will take place at Paiute Golf Resort on the Sun Mountain course.
The final Dell Technologies Match Play took place last week. Austin Country Club shined again, with some exciting golf down the stretch. With so many golf fans loving the Match Play format, what will the PGA do to make sure Match Play is still relevant in professional golf?
Congrats to Sam Burns on the win!
Friend of the show Dana Fall had a decent showing at the LPGA Drive-On Championship. And Harry Hall had a great outing in the Corales Puntacana Championship, finishing T13 for the tournament.
We had some fun trying to come up with some Sponsors for the LIV Golf Teams. Also, if LIV Golf comes to Las Vegas, where would they play?
