We had met before and so had the chance to go deep into themes of near-death; facing death; and the ravages of illness and life setback as a part of the journey of healing and awakening to personal gifts and power. For me this was such an honest, provocative and exciting exploration of topics in healing, shamanic work, and the process of becoming authentic that most of us never really get to have or hear.  This is a great conversation for healers and students of spirit to check out! Success Through Surrender: When Being Nothing is Becoming Everything with Kute Blackson04 Jul 202300:52:00
In this episode, we have the pleasure of traveling through the furthest reaches of consciousness into the power of simple every day life moments. Lifelong teacher, and guide to all things spiritual, personal and professional, Kute Blackson, shares his passion, his visions for what matters most, and how we can all become more fully alive. Kute Blackson is utterly unique in the world of human potential. Unlike those who promise to simply help people “get” what they want, Kute's life work instead reveals to people what they have to give, by liberating who they are most truly and deeply. The focus: Freedom Kute's own background and experience lays out the blueprint for his approach to liberating others, setting their gifts and greatness free. Born in Ghana, West Africa, his multicultural upbringing as the child of a Japanese mother and Ghanaian father, raised in London, and on 4 different continents defies all stereotypes. He is a next-generation world leader out to awaken millions to Love and to Living their inspired destiny. The son of a revered spiritual leader, Kute was speaking to his father’s congregations, in more than 300 churches, by the age of 8. At the age of 14, he was ordained into his father’s ministry and groomed to carry on the family’s spiritual legacy. But his hearts-truth drew him to separate from his father’s ministry and come to Los Angeles in 1995.   Kute courageously and daringly, came to America with two suitcases, and a dream seeking out many of the spiritual and self-help icons who inspired him while still a boy. Kute quickly learned to take an outside-in approach and make it an inside-out approach, and created his own approach, which is about liberating the individual in order to get in touch with who they are and give it. This is what he calls “Liberated Living.” According to Kute, once freed of the conditioned responses scripted by family, society, institutions and the media, people are no longer limited to pre-programmed interactions in the course of living. In fact, life becomes an expansive, jazzy improvisation, which is what he calls “Freefall.” His most recent book is, The Magic of Surrender. This conversation was fascinating and fun and felt a bit like a wild ride exploring psyche and soul. Through diverse analogies from Chinese medicine to natural history and personal growth, traditional Chinese medicine expert Sabine Whilms joins me for a conversation with incredible complexity, depth, and playfulness. It moves fast and there is more involved than you might catch the first time. This is a great dialogue to challenge the mind and awaken the soul. Find Sabine Whilms, Ph.D here https://www.happygoatproductions.com/ Sabine has been studying classical Chinese writings on medicine ever since her Ph.D. education in Asian Studies and medical Anthropology. With a strong academic background in early Chinese philosophy, science, cosmology, and language and therefore in a historically and culturally sensitive approach to classical Chinese medicine, she now enjoys studying and teaching Chinese medicine as a living, effective, ever-changing, and much needed response to the issues of our modern times. Some of her favorite topics are gynecology and reproduction, pediatrics, medical ethics, and “nurturing life,” as envisioned by the great medieval “King of Medicinals” Sun Simiao. Sabine is happiest when engaging in a dialogue with practitioners and students of Chinese medicine on how to bring this ancient wisdom to life in our modern times. Besides teaching at the School of Classical Chinese Medicine at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and producing books on Chinese medicine through her publishing company, Happy Goat Productions, she is busy raising a daughter and varying numbers of dogs, chickens, goats, fruits, and vegetables. Sabine Wilms, Ph.D., is the author and translator of more than a dozen books on Chinese medicine. Her publications include translations of Sun Simiao’s writings on pediatrics (Venerating the Root) and of the Divine Farmer’s Classic of Materia Medica (Shennong Bencao Jing); two books on Wang Fengyi’s system of “Five Element Virtue Healing” (Let the Radiant Yang Shine Forth and Twelve Characters); a translation and discussion of the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic (Huangdi Nei Jing Suwen) chapter five (Humming with Elephants); and of Qi Zhongfu’s Hundred Questions on Gynecology (Nüke Bai Wen, published as Channeling the Moon). The Wisdom of Life in Death, from an African Traditional Healer24 Feb 202501:00:16
It is always a gift to spend time with John Lockley. I look up to him as one of my own teachers and a model of how to live culturally, rooted wisdom and lifeways with integrity and balance. This magnificent conversation unfolds almost like a ceremony as we explore the deeper lessons of healing, ceremony, and the power of the Spirit World as we discuss death, tradition, and traditional medicine. According to John's Xhosa elders, he is one of the first white men after Apartheid to become a fully initiated Xhosa sangoma (African Shaman). In the sangoma medicine path in South Africa, there are many different tribes/lineages that make up a rich and diverse tapestry of healing. South Africa has one of the oldest living shamanic cultures left in the world. John Lockley was born, in 1971, into a divided Apartheid South Africa, with the mark of the sangoma on his face – a band of white birth skin around the eyes. At 18, John was serving in the South African army as a medic (during the war with Angola in the 1980s) when he had a strong, prophetic dream calling him to train as a Xhosa sangoma. He immediately began to suffer from the thwasa, a severe period of ill-health that is inherent in all ancient shamanic cultures which can only be cured through apprenticeship to a shamanic teacher. Because of the restrictions of Apartheid (which ended in 1994) it would take John seven years to find a Xhosa teacher. Learn more at https://www.johnlockley.com. Learn more about your ad choices. The Myth of Death & the Rise of Soul with Michael Meade10 Feb 202501:17:02
I could not have imagined a better first guest for the bone collectors series. Michael Meade is an extraordinary author, teacher, and pioneer of mythology and the modern psyche was one of the earliest influences on my own journey and it was an absolute honor to interview him.  Compelling, challenging and profoundly insightful, this conversation dives into the heart of personal and social transformation. Confronting the myths that need to die, and the quest for Soul that tests the very limits of our human being. Michael Meade is a renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology, and psychology. He combines hypnotic storytelling, street-savvy perceptiveness, and spellbinding interpretations of ancient myths with a deep knowledge of cross-cultural rituals. He has an unusual ability to distill and synthesize these disciplines, tapping into ancestral sources of wisdom and connecting them to the stories we are living today. He is the author of Awakening the Soul, The Genius Myth, Fate and Destiny, Why the World Doesn't End and The Water of Life; and the creator of the Living Myth Podcast.  Michael Meade is the founder of Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, a nonprofit network of artists, activists, and community builders that encourages greater understanding between diverse peoples.
