Beşiktaş have closed out the 2024 calendar year with yet another loss of points, the Black Eagles could not get further than a 1-1 draw against Sami Ugurlu's Alanyaspor at the Tupras stadium. The visitors took the lead after just a few minutes, following yet another goal conceded on a set-piece. But Rafa Silva struck back near instantly to tie the game, in the remaining 80+ minutes of the match the Eagles coudln't find a second goal and dropped another 2 points.

Just when you thought things were looking up MIlhouse and the Black Eagles had finally started clawing their way out of the gutter in the Süper Lig, Beşiktaş somehow manage to sink to a new low by losing to (previously) winless -- bottom of the league -- Adana Demirspor. A team who hadn't only not won yet this season, they had only gathered a total of 2 points and scored only 4 goals this season. Somehow they manage to add a third of their goal total against the Black Eagles, in what was a pisspoor first half performance and a second half in which the Eagles were always on the back foot!

Beşiktaş gave away what looked like an extremely promising start in the match against Bodø/Glimt after Gedson Fernandes had put the Black Eagles 1-0 up, thanks to an excellent assist from Bahtiyar Zaynutdinov. The Eagles looked solid for 35 minutes, but following an error from Ersin and Musrati leading to the equalizer, the second goal came too quick for the team to rebound. Chances were had in the second half, but Beşiktaş never restored the balance from the first 35 minutes.

Beşiktaş have finally made an end to their 5 game winless streak in the Turkish Süper Lig and they've done so in a crucial derby match against rivals Fenerbahçe! A 73th minute Oxlade-Chamberlain that seemingly wasn't touched by anyone and trailed in to the goal was the only thing to sepperate the two Istanbul giants on Saturday! Both sides had some chances, but ultimately it was a relatively tame match with a lot of physicality but without spectacular football. Gedson Fernandes was wrongfully dismissed right at the end with a second yellow after a clean steal, but the Black Eagles managed to hold on to secure the 3 points!

Beşiktaş have once again been defeated in the month of November, this time in disgraceful fashion in Hungary in what supposed to be a home game against Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The Black Eagles have lost 4 of their last 5 matches and are now in a very precarious position in the Europa League aswell, a win would have most likely secured qualification to the next round, but now advancing seems nearly impossible. Not alone did the Black Eagles lose, they also played poor football in particular in the frist half. Should Giovanni van Bronckhorst be sacked? Many fans believed that he should at least get until the end of the season, but it seems the team's performance is only getting worse every game.

While November was supposed to be a period where Beşiktaş' calendar would get a bit easier, the team has now completely and utterly capitulated and bowed out of the title race and it has now even suffered a tremendous blow in regards to European football next season. The Black Eagles suffered a painful 2-4 home loss at the hands of Göztepe, despite the fact that they found themselves 2-0 up after just 10 minutes. Fans in the stands have turned on team and the board and the end of Giovanni van Bronckhorst's tenure might even be in sight.

Beşiktaş have secured a crucial win against newly re-crowned Swedish champions Malmö, thanks to goals by Ernest Muçi and Semih Kiliàsoy's first of the season. It was a very hard fought match, in which Malmö will certainly feel hard done by the result. It was an extremely vital win for the Black Eagles, an absolute must win match that has now put them right in to contention for a top 24 spot in the league stages of the Europa League. Beşiktaş have suffered their first league defeat of the season on matchday 10 at the hands of Galatasaray and now find themselves 8 points back on the league leaders (who have played one more match). The Black Eagles certainly weren't the lesser side on the day, but two goals from set-pieces were enough for the hosts to bag the 3 points, Beşiktaş in return were unable to create enough chances despite haing arguably the better side for the majority of the game.

Beşiktaş have come away with a heroic away win at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais after a 72nd minute stunner from Gedson Fernandes following an excellent Rafa Silva through ball! Lyon will definitely feel hard done as the French side created a plethora of chances, mainly in the first half but also early in the second half. But a heroic performance from both Ersin and Felix Uduokhai kept the French at bay. The Black Eagles could've even snatched a bigger victory but couldn't convert their late chances on the break, which resulted in a nail biting end to the match! Is this the "reference match" the Black Eagles need ahead of Monday's derby?

Beşiktaş have now lost their second game int he Europa League league stages aswell following a 1-3 home defeat at the hands of the 2023 Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt. Contrary to last week hower the Black Eagles went out on their own terms, they played their usual game of possession based football and tried throughout the 90 minutes to dislodge Frankfurt, however important details including a missed penalty and a very crucial offside decision didn't go their way and we are somewhat left with the feeling of "what if...?".

Following Thursday's disillusion in the Europa League against Ajax, Beşiktaş needed a win and perhaps even more importantly a confidence boost in Kayseri. The Black Eagles checked both boxes, despite a poor first half performance, the hosts were kind enough to buckle under the pressure in the second half with was punished by Gedson and Ciro Immobile. Despite an in the end comfortable win, Beşiktaş didn't look great and Gio van Bronckhorst had to be creative with his lineup due to illness, injuries and suspensions. Beşiktaş were completely and utterly emberasssed by amodest Ajax side on Thursday night in the opening game of the Europa League's league stages. It's the first time that new coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst has clearly made a major misstep in his Beşiktaş career, rather than sticking to his guns and fielding a team to play our own game and play to our strengths, Gio completely adjusted himself to a histroically average Ajax side by changing around his regular tactics. It almost feels like Gio is already prioritizing the league over the European campaign.

A review of former Canadian Soccer star Atiba Hutcinson's new book "The Beautiful Dream: a Memoir" by Atiba Hutchinson and Dan Robson. This books covers Atiba's time during his early days as a kid playing football on a local field behind his house with his friends and brother to him reaching the pinnacle of professional football at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With his international career for the #CanMNT at the centre of the story, it covers his first steps in to European football with several trials at some major European clubs to his first professional contract with Östers IF in Sweden, his subsequent move to Helsingborg IF and his big transfer to FC Copenhagen where he won his first trophies. It continues with his troubled time at PSV Eindhoven, a difficult period in his career due to multiple knee surgeries and then continues with his decade long stint as a Black Eagle at Beşiktaş, where he ended his club career in 2023 before playing one last game for Canada in the semi-finals of the Gold Cup.

Coming off of a disappointing loss of points in Trabzon last week, Beşiktaş have squeeked past a stubborn Eyüpspor side thanks to a late penalty goal by Ciro Immobile. The Black Eagles had found themselves in the lead thanks to a wonderful strike from Milot Rashica in the first half, but a penalty from Emre Akbaba had put the visitors level on the hour mark. On Thursday Beşiktaş emphatically trashed Lugano in the UEFA Europa League play-off round to edge out the swiss 8-4 on aggregate after a 5-1 win at the Beşiktaş Tüpraş stadium. Goals from Ciro Immobile (2), Gedson Fernandes, Rafa Silva and Salih Uçan. The goal for the visitors came from their striker Vladi.

Following our discussion on the match, we'll be diving in to Friday's UEL league stage draw in which Beşiktaş were paired with Eintracht Frankfurt, AFC Ajax, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Olympique Lyonnais, Bodo/Glimt, Malmö, Athletic Club de Bilbao and FC Twente. Sinan, Kartal and Kaan give their uneducated predictions on how they think the Black Eagles will fair against these opponents and how many points they'll talley.

We remember former Beşiktaş coach Christoph Daum who sadly passed away yesterday following a long battle with cancer at the age of 70. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, may he rest in peace.

In less somber news, Beşiktaş are on the verge of signing Augsburg's 26-year old left footed central defender Felix Uduokhai. He is set to arrive in Istanbul tonight.

And finally, our captain Necip Uysal has suffered a devastating injury during training yesterday: he has suffered a cruciate ligament tear and is expected to be out for 6-9 months. Get well soon Kaptan!

Beşiktaş were halted to a 3-3 away draw against Lugano last night despite taking the lead twice and going 1-3 up. Gedson Fernandes silenced his critics once again with a stellar performance and a brace, while Al-Musrati scored the third goal for the Black Eagles. But it wasn't enough to put the game beyond the stubborn Swiss side, as Lugano fought back in the first half after going a goal down and even more impressively in the second half after going two goals down.

Kartal, Sinan and Kaan will have plenty to say on the result and will also look forward to next week's return leg in Istanbul on the 29th of August, JUDGMENT DAY! (If you get that, we can be friends)

Following last week's win in the Süper Lig season opener against Samsunspor, Beşiktaş have now secured all 3 points against Antalyaspor aswell in their first home game at the Beşiktaş Tüpraş Park! The Black Eagles prevailed despite finding themselves a goal down after less than a minute, following a misplaced pass by Ciro Immobile from the kick-off. Our Italian star striker didn't waste much time however as he scored a first half brace to turn the game on it's head. In the second half Antalyaspor scored early again but this time Rafa Silva dotted the i's and put the Black Eagles back in front. Antalyaspor found themselves going down to ten men later on following a horror challenge by Güray on Rafa and in added time Ernest Muçi scored the fourth coming off the bench on a sublime trivela assist by Cher Ndour. Kartal, Kaan and Sinan will recap the game and give their thoughts on the performance of the Black Eagles. The Süper Lig is back after it's annual Summer hiatus and Beşiktaş had a tough away game against Samsunspor to open the season! Despite the terrible season that was 2023-2024, Beşiktaş ended it with silverware. That silverware gave them the right to compete in the Turkish Super Cup this past Saturday on August the 3rd against Turkish League champions and fierce rivals Galatasaray. While Beşiktaş were considered the underdogs heading in tot he game, the Black Eagles triumphed in emphatic fashion as they absolutely demolished their city rivals: 5-0. Thanks to a Ciro Immobile brace on his debut. But it wasn't just Immobile who stole the show on Saturday, that other big name debutant Rafa Silva was instrumental in Giovanni van Bronckhorst's tactical plan and stole the show with both his offensive and defensive contributions. The Portuguese wizard scored the 4th goal, was instrumental in the second and assisted the 4th, which was scored by 17-year old Mustafa Erhan Hekimoglu.

Beşiktaş have shockingly acquired the services of Benfica star Rafa Silva on a 3-year deal. The Black Eagles' vice-president Hüseyin Yücel quietly secured the 31-year old Portuguese star's signature on Tuesday before bringing him to Istanbul. "Rafa" as he is commonly known as won the EURO's with Portugal way back in 2016 and has been one of the most important players for Portuguese Juggernaut Benfica over the past couple of seasons. Rafa can play on either wing or behind the strikes and is known for his dazzling speed, agility and dribbling ability aswell as being a common name on the scoresheet.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst arrived in Istanbul on Thursday while the first Summer signing, Gabriel Paulista, arrived in the city on Wednesday ahead of Gio's signign ceremony on Friday! The Black Eagles have started off the Summer in third gear but it's not just incoming news we'll be talking about in this episode! Beşiktaş are also moving on several players this Summer and among those players Gedson Fernandes might be the highest profile departure, as he is on the verge of signing with Russian club Zenit St.-Petersburg, likewise Bahtiyar Zaynutdinov is close to a move back to Russia as Beşiktaş and Zenit have agreed on fees for both players and it's now down to them to make the final decision on their future.

Beşiktaş finally have appointed a new permanent coach and he goes by the name of Giovanni van Bronckhorst! The 49-year old Dutchman was previously in charge of Feyenoord from 2015 until 2019, in this period he won 5 trophies with the Rotterdam based club including their first Eredivisie title in 18-years!

Beşiktaş eliminate Ankaragücü in the Turkish cup semi-finals thanks to an Ernest Muçi strike from the edge of the area, advancing them to the cup final to be played on the 23rd of May at the Atatürk Olimpiyat stadium against Trabzonspor.

Things didn't go so well for the Black Eagles in the league however, as a severely depleted Beşiktaş side (due to injuries and suspension) were held at a 1-1 draw away against Alanyaspor. Which significantly diminishes their chances at a top 4 finish.

Furthermore we'll look ahead at the Hatayspor game on Saturday and briefly talk about the upcoming cup final against Trabzonspor!

Fernando Santos found himself dismissed following the second consecutive 1-1 draw, this time against Samsunspor on Monday, following an earlier last minute draw against Basaksehir the previous week.

With 3 losses and 2 draws from their last 5 games, the Beşiktaş saw no other option than to shoot in to action and dismiss Fernando Santos prematurely as the Black Eagles still have all to play for in the Turkish cup and the league for next season's European qualification.
