We chat about his approach to ballpark travel, including a last-minute solo trip to see the Oakland Coliseum before the A’s left, and a recent honeymoon stop at Rogers Centre that sparked a new excitement about eventually visiting Cooperstown. Alex Haenke is a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan who recently wrapped up a 17-year journey visiting all 30 Major League ballparks with his family. What started as a fun idea between Alex and his dad turned into a tradition that shaped his love of baseball, travel, and culture.

Alex shares how his ballpark chase changed as he grew up, how even his non-baseball-loving younger brother eventually got into the spirit, and how those trips inspired a broader love for exploring museums, local landmarks, and everything cities have to offer.  

We also dive into Alex’s latest goal—visiting every affiliated minor league park—and his YouTube channel, Traveling Sports Nerd, where he documents sports-fueled adventures across the country.

Extra Innings: We "Catch" Up with John Scukanec

In our Extra Innings series, we'll catch up with previous  guests who have checked off larger items on their baseball bucket list since their last appearance on the show.

John Scukanec is a Mariners fan from Washougal, WA who recently completed his #Catch365 challenge by playing catch on the field at T-Mobile Park with Ken Griffey Jr. We chat about how that happened and what it was like for John to play catch with his hero. We also get into some of the lessons learned from a year of catch and hear some phenomenal stories about the power of human connection, and what's next now that the challenge is complete.

John started his Catch365 journey after hearing Adam Hazel talk about his own catch challenge which was inspired by Ethan Bryan's book A Year of Playing Catch.  John originally appeared on the show in episode 42,  just 24 days into his journey.

We also hear what it was like to be at the first MLB game post 9/11, and touch on where each of us thinks the next league expansion location might be.
