Reflections on Daniel Ricciardo and not so much about Renault engines01 Oct 202400:58:59

This week on the Auto Action RevLimiter we reflect on the career of Daniel Ricciardo, who deserved a lot more respect than Red Bull showed him. We also look at Renault shutting down its engine program and what that may mean for the Alpine team. And what about the anti-trust? Does this all open the door for Andretti?

What is happening with the Ford engines for Bathurst? When did we all go there for the first time, and what has changed since then, aside from many more potholes on the road?

Plus, we’ve got the latest news from NASCAR, World Rally, and Speedway, which is ramping up again now that the weather is better.

And we also look at the life of an all-round good bloke and great racer Peter Fitzgerald.

We’ve got a little bit of NASCAR and SVG, along with the World Rally Championship and more on the latest edition of the Auto Action RevLimiter.

And check out https://autoaction.com.au/ for all the latest updates and dropping news.

Norris puts F1 title on the table, and we reflect on Mark Skaife's time on the RACE board...24 Sep 202400:53:06

Lando Norris has asked for the Jaws music after dominating the Singapore Grand Prix and closing the gap to Max Verstappen to only a fraction more than two race wins. The title hunt is alive, and with Oscar Piastri ready to take points off the reigning champ, it may only be a matter of races before Norris snatches the lead in the drivers' title, just as McLaren did to the constructors' championship last week… which is just as well, because there are only six races left now.

We look at the impressive young Argentinian Franco Colapinto while reflecting on Daniel Ricciardo, who may have just driven his final Grand Prix… much to our disgust.

A bit of Supercars with the news that Mark Skaife has resigned from the RACE and Supercar Boards, leaving the sport open to negotiate a new TV deal without any conflicts. We reflect on his time and his critical role in getting Supercars to where it is today.

And what about those Ford engines? Will they be OK for Bathurst? Are there really GT3 cranks heading down under?

We’ve got a little bit of NASCAR and SVG, along with the World Rally Championship and more on the latest edition of the Auto Action RevLimiter.

And check out https://autoaction.com.au/ for all the latest updates and dropping news.

Toyota is going Supercars, the news that overshadowed the Sandown 500 and another GP win for Oscar Piastri17 Sep 202400:55:06

It is a news story more than 20 years in the making, but the largest vehicle manufacturer in the world, as opposed to the manufacturer of the largest vehicles in the world, has signed up to go Supercars racing. Toyota joins Australia’s largest motor racing series in 2026 with Walkinshaw Andretti United and one other yet-to-be-identified team for at least five seasons.

But what does it really mean? Auto Action’s Bruce Williams was at the launch, and he dissected the meaning of life with Andrew Clarke and Toyota’s unofficial spokesperson, Paul Gover.

We talk about Oscar Piastri’s win in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and how he has helped take McLaren back to the top of the F1 pile. But what happened to Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez, and where was Lando Norris and Max Verstappen?

Then it is Supercars and the Sandown 478, previously known as the Sandown 500 and Red Bull Ampol Racing domination and a podium to everyone’s favourite team, PremiAir Racing. But what was happening to those Ford engines on the eve of Bathurst? How would they do 1000 km when they can’t even get through a drive day?

Plus a little bit of NASCAR and IndyCar…

All this and more on the Auto Action RevLimiter.

And check out https://autoaction.com.au/ for all the latest updates and dropping news.

And apologies for the sound; much of this was recorded on the road.

The Sandown 500 Preview Edition… plus how the NASCAR points work10 Sep 202400:47:33

It is the Sandown 500 this weekend, and we have a good look at the driver pairings that matter and the co-drivers we really want to see.

We even take a stab at who is going to win. And we’ve got plenty of news from the latest on #SaveSandown, #NASCAR, World Rally (#WRC), #Speedway and #MotoGP.

The Monegasque King Charles of Italy wins at Monza. The Supercars drivers find homes and we start our push to save Sandown03 Sep 202400:56:13

Charles Leclerc stole the Italian Grand Prix from Oscar Piastri with a bold single-stop strategy, leaving the Tifosi in tears of joy, while Oscar showed a grumpy face of frustration. With Max Verstappen struggling, this world championship is well and truly alive.

To understand it all, we brought our very own rookie – Reese Mautone - in for FP1, and she runs rings around Bruce and Andrew without hitting the wall.

Andrew and Bruce talk about all the Supercars news, because Reese doesn't follow that, and we launch an audacious bid to save the Sandown 500 from a ridiculous housing development.

All the details on how to join the Melbourne Racing Club and have your voice heard are in the latest digital edition of Auto Action at https://autoaction.com.au/issues/auto-action-1894.

An F1 Flogging. A Supercars Coup and Aussies (and a Kiwi) getting big scores for 202527 Aug 202401:03:45

In this edition of The Auto Action RevLimiter, we dig into Anton De Pasquale’s signing with Team 18, as revealed on the Auto Action website on Tuesday.

In the game of falling dominoes, Anton’s move was triggered by the (rumoured) signing of Brodie Kostecki to his seat at Dick Johnson Racing. The last domino to fall belonged to Mark Winterbottom, and we’re not sure where we will see the former champ next year… although we doubt it will be Team 18.

There is a slot left at PremiAir – and we let you know what we reckon there, too.

Plus, we’ve got all the latest in F1 from the Dutch Grand Prix, including Lando Norris’s flogging of Max Verstappen. Both the Driver and Constructor Championships are alive. And Jack Doohan’s got an F1 drive with Alpine next year… we talk about that, too.

We’ve also got NASCAR news, including SVG’s elevation to the Cup Series with Trackhouse. And Will Power's closing in on another IndyCar Championship. We look at Sports Sedans from Sandown and GT from Phillip Island, too…

This is The Auto Action RevLimiter.

Nick Percat was the Saturday winner for Chevrolet, and Cam Water was the Sunday winner for Ford.

But who has rejected an offer to buy his team, and why?

Plus, there's F1, IndyCar and NASCAR news and a rapid preview of this weekend.

It was only 1.5kg, but it cost George Russell a Grand Prix ! We debrief the Belgian GP and the first part of the F1 season 30 Jul 202401:11:24

They say it was worn tyres, but wherever that 1.5kg went, it took George Russell's 2nd win this season and handed it to his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who was on a more conservative strategy.

Oscar Piastri was second... but how does his season rate? We debrief every driver and every team and wonder why Carlos Sainz is going to Williams - what does he know? - and why Red Bull is sticking with Sergio Perez as the hapless Mexican hands ascendancy to McLaren.

There's a little bit on the Supercars merry-go-round, which has just started in Supercars, too.

Oscar is a F1 Grand Prix Winner! And we talk Supercars and Chaz Mostert.23 Jul 202401:02:33

In the latest edition of The Auto Action Rev Limiter Podcast, we dig deep into ‘our’ Oscar Piastri’s first F1 Grand Prix Win… and we say ‘our’ because he has been an Auto Action Columnist before the other motorsport media in Australia even knew his name.

He is the 115th winner of a Grand Prix and the 5th Australian to do so. The side play was the petulance of Lando Norris and the dummy spitting tantrum of Max Verstappen, who didn’t like working for a living.

We also digest Chaz Mostert’s dominant weekend in Sydney as he hunts the Bulls. He’s passed Broc Feeney in the title race, and now he has his eyes on Will Brown.

Plus we’ve got all the news that matters.

It's the Shortbreak Supercars - one week off and they're back. 16 Jul 202400:56:46

For the first time this year, there will be only one weekend break between Supercars rounds as we head to the Sydney SuperNight. But what does that mean for the circus, and why does racing under lights work so well?

Plus, we've got news on IndyCars and wins for Scott McLaughlin and Will Power at the Iowa Speedway. There's also NASCAR and Xfinity, Goodwood, WEC, and even the European Le Mans Series to talk about.

Then, we'll chat with Craig Lowndes about the Silverado he drove in the Finke Desert Race.

All this and more on the Auto Action RevLimiter.

Sir Lewis Hamilton wins in England again | Was Oscar Piasti shafted by his own team? | Cam Waters and Matt Payne do it in Supercars and we have all the new from a big weekend of motorsport09 Jul 202401:19:50

This is the Auto Action RevLimiter, where we cover all the news in the motorsport world, starting with Lewis Hamilton's tears-inducing win in England, his first in 945 days, and did the Poms go wild? But for Oscar Piastri, it is a story of what could have been, with McLaren buggering up his strategy and costing him a win and a podium.

Still, at least he isn't Sergio Perez.

The Supercars in Townsville were sensational. The Saturday race was easily the best in a long while. Cam Waters won that one from Chaz Mostert, while Matt Payne won on Sunday.

We've got news on #NASCAR, #IndyCar and #MotoGP, and we have our legal advisor online - Sven Burchartz - to keep Bruce under control and to talk Erebus, Tickford and whatever else he wants because that is how we offset his bill.

Let's talk Betty Klimenko and the trolls, plus a detailed breakdown of the Formula 1 from Spain and heaps more26 Jun 202400:56:08

On this episode of The Autro Action Rev Limiter, Andrew, Bruce, and PG break down the Betty Klimenko interview from the latest edition of Auto Action (AA1889), the reasons why she has finally spoken out—hint: she's sick of people making things up—and why things are the way they are.

PS: Barry Ryan is still the CEO, in case you heard differently elsewhere.

We've got all the latest news and plenty of F1 discussion.

Supercars in Darwin and the 24 Hour of Le Mans... with little attempt at public humiliation18 Jun 202400:54:50

In this edition of The Auto Action RevLimiter, we spend a lot of time talking about the Supercars in Darwin… and it is mostly all good.

James Golding was great, Broc Feeney was brilliant, Brodie Kostecki was back, and the Fords were slow. Plus, who wasn’t there, and why was only one absentee written about for a story? Was there a pretty weak attempt at public humiliation and revenge?

Also, in Supercars, we talk about the Perth street race and take a swipe at the naysayers who have been talking it and the sport down. We say you were wrong.

The 24 Hour of Le Mans excited Bruce and PG, who watched the entire race… not. Well, they watched enough to be truly excited about another Ferrari win at one of the greatest sporting events in the world.

We have some news and not much else this week.

SVG goes Back-to-Back while Max Verstappen wins again in F1... plus all the latest news in motorsport 11 Jun 202400:58:57

Shane van Gisbergen has gone back-to-back with a win in Sonoma to follow on from his win the week before in Portland in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, while his antipodean mates – Will Brown and Cam Waters – had mixed debuts in the NASCAR Cup Series… but both showed enough to stay on the radar or the US teams looking for the next Giz? We hear one of them is even being chased by two teams.

Max Verstappen was back on top in Formula 1 in Canada, but he had to work for this win in the rain as both Lando Norris and George Russell stuffed up any chance of a win. Dan Ricciardo was fired up by comments from Jacques Villeneuve on the telecast questioning whether he was ever good enough to be in F1 at all. P5 gave ur Dan all the ammunition he needed to take aim at the Canadian former champion.

Plus, we’ve got all the latest news on Supercars, F1, IndyCar, and whatever else came to our minds at the time. We also look at the Darwin Supercars and the hypercars at Le Mans for the 24-hour race.

So, join us now for the Auto Action RevLimiter and make sure you check on the website for all the latest news and for the digital magazine – www.autoaction.com.au

SVG has won his first Xfinity Race. Jock Goodyer is the Aussie Speedway King. Scott Dixon is still winning in IndyCars and Toby Price and Paul Weel win the Baja 500... and some Supercars04 Jun 202400:45:17

Shane van Gisbergen won his first Xfinity Series race on the weekend in Portland, a week before Cam Waters and Will Brown join him as Cup Series drivers. The NASCAR racing was typically entertaining too.

Esteban Ocon has been fired, but will young Aussie Jack Doohan get the job next year?

Jack Miller lost his KTM factory ride for the 2025 season to Peda Acosta, but Miller remains confident of securing a competitive ride, likely with Tech3. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia secured his third consecutive Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix victory, maintaining pressure on series leader Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez. Scott Dixon emerged victorious at the Detroit IndyCar street race, extending his series lead over Alex Palou. Toby Price, Paul Weel, and Brent Bauman claimed victory at the Baja 500, while various winners emerged at The Bend's secret Speed Series meeting.

Jock Goodyer received top honours at the 2024 Australian Speedway Awards, and Peugeot received a significant Balance of Performance adjustment for Hypercars at Le Mans, affecting various manufacturers.

And we start the loose stuff; again, we set about fixing Supercars and addressing the $20m loss.

Oh yeah, we take a quick peak at #F1 in Canada.

It was a huge weekend of Motorsport with the Indy 500, Monaco F1 and the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte in NASCAR... we cut it all down for you. 28 May 202400:54:02

On this edition of the Auto Action Rev Limiter, we debrief a massive weekend of Motorsport; we certainly had some massive nights down under. Josef Newgarden won the Indy 500 with a last-lap pass, Christopher Bell won the big NASCAR race, and Charles Le Clerc won a typical Monaco Grand Prix... it may have the glamour, but it doesn't race well.

Andrew, Bruce and PG talk about all that and more... like Aussie's winning in F4 and GT3 races and standing on the podium in F2. And then there's the RACE - the owners of Supercars - reporting better financials than the year before. It is all there in this edition of The Auto Action Rev Limiter.

And don't forget to check out the digital magazine at https://autoaction.com.au/

Supercars from Perth, Formula 1 from Imola and Scotty Mac the fast driver ever at the Indy 500 21 May 202400:59:06

It was a big motorsport weekend, that's for sure. Ford broke its duck with a pair of wins in Perth, one each for Chaz Mostert and Cam Waters, and we do a deep dive into what happened.

Max Verstappen had another win, but he is now actually having to work for them as the McLarens close in.

Then there was qualifying for the Indy 500 and a Penske lockout of the front row, with Scotty Mac the fastest driver ever at the biggest sporting venue in the world. Will Power is second and Joesf Newgarden is next.

All that and more on the Auto Action Rev Limiter.

On this week's show, Andrew, Bruce and PG rejoice at the return of #Supercars after what feels like and eternity, but is only four weeks. We preview the Perth round in this week's Auto Action RevLimiter.

We've got all the news, including Cam Waters' #NASCAR Cup Series debut, Jett Lawrence's stunning Motocross Championship win, Oscar's better than Lando Drive and Andrew Miedecke wanting a dedicated 6-hour GT4 at Bathurst the day before the 12-Hour.

Plus we're back to #F1 racing with consequences and Imola is toughened up with reduced run-offs.

Oscar starred... but Lando won. McLaren flogs the Clog. 07 May 202400:50:34

The Miami F1 Grand Prix finally turned it on, and for the first time this year Max Verstappen was beaten on the track. McLaren launched the attack, first with Oscar Piastri and then by Lando Norris who had a bit more luck with the Safety Cars. He pulled away for a maiden win.

We have plenty of F1 talk and a little bit of Supercars, F4 and New Zealand.

Senna: 30 Years On and Plenty of Supercars News30 Apr 202400:48:17

It is 30 years since Ayrton Senna died at Imola, and our crew goes behind the scenes with untold stories. Plus, where will Adrian Newey go, and is he worth EURO150 a year?

Then, in Supercars, where will they go and will they go often enough in 2025 - inside the calendar with details that only we are talking about. And the Erebus sales rumours won't go away, but did we miss the clues last year? And what about a Peterwit - can he find the money to make an offer?

Plus, NASCAR, IndyCar, WEC, IMSA and Motorsport Australia dump $1m.

This is the Auto Action RevLimiter.

Stunning Taupo Shines Through the Gloom | Supercars back in New Zealand23 Apr 202401:02:00

We're back from our weekend in Taupo (Tow Paw), and what an unbelievable first weekend for that venue. It was, we felt, the start of this season, too, despite it being the third round. Andrew and Bruce were there, and PG was on the couch.

Brodie Kostecki was back for Erebus, Andre Heimgartner won for Brad Jones Racing, and Will Brown battled his teammate Broc Feeney for the other win. Anton De Pasquale also won the Jason Richards Trophy for the best performer over the two races - is Dick Johnson Racing back?

There was some F1 and NASCAR, but we wanted to talk about Taupo.

We're going to Taupo... Tow Paw... Whatever. Supercars is back!16 Apr 202400:55:27

After a break that feels like months, the Supercars Championship is back and headed across the ditch to Taupo in the middle of the North Island. And yes, Brodie Kostecki will be there! As will the rain.

Somehow, the rain will also be in China for F1's return to 中国. Philip Island was stunning on the weekend, just gone, if a little cold, but we chatted about whether Supercars should return to the land of penguins.

Plus, there's more... all the news in the way only the Auto Action RevLimiter can deliver.

Brodie Kostecki is back! Vale Bev Brock09 Apr 202400:45:00

Brodie Kostecki is back! The 2023 Champion has cured his ills with Erebus Motorsport and will be back in the Supercars Championship for Taupo next week. Our fearless crew gets deep into the mire and steps around the Peterwits to discuss what it means for the sport and what it has meant.

We chat about the passing of Bev Brock, an icon of the Australian motorsport scene whose loss will be felt by many. Then we talk about the return of boredom to F1 and refuse to talk about the team that won. It's childish, but at least we’re not nasty.

All this and the latest news in this edition of The Auto Action RevLimiter.

Follow the Easter Trail and more here on the Auto Action Rev Limiter03 Apr 202400:59:45

This week we had to work hard for Supercar News, but we found some. It was easier in Speedway with the Easter Trail and the new speedway opening at Eastern Creek. Liberty Media has bought MotoGP, there was the Bathurst 6-Hour, the World Rally Championship in Kenya and, of course, a NASCAR wrap-up with drivers throwing broken bumpers at rivals. We talk about why Formula E is boring and irrelevant, and then ramble our way through the latest F1 news... where should Carlos Sainz go?

Don't forget to jump onto the Auto Action website to sign-up for the free digital copy of the magazine, and hard copy is out tomorrow.

The Aussie GP review here on the Auto Action Rev Limiter27 Mar 202400:47:07

The Auto Action Rev Limiter debriefs the Australian Grand Prix, Andrew and Bruce from trackside and PG from the couch... and all three were excited that Max Verstappen didn't win and that Carlos Sainz. Oscar Piastri nearly pulled off a podium and he clearly won the merchandise sales battle with everyone else.

The Supercars raced without pitstops and it was good. Will Brown won the weekend and the Mustangs found new ways to hit each other. There's more too... Shane van Gisbergen and NASCAR, MotoGP and a million dollars IndyCar race without points.

And what is it with Track Limits, why has NASCAR joined the slippery slope into absurdity? It was the last bastion for motorsport, now it is just another class making a mockery of itself. If you want track limits, give them consequences not time penalties. And the Supercars App and Website still suck.

It Aussie GP week right here on the Auto Action Rev Limiter20 Mar 202400:58:47

It is Australian Grand Prix, and our fearless trio put it all the line trying to work out if Oscar Piastri can beat Max,  and what will the Supercars do without fans at the track on Thursday twilight or in the paddock. Plus we look at the Boardroom stoush at RACE, the owners of Supercars. Then there's Race Tasmania, the dummy spit, and the $10,000 prize to an Excel racer. And F1 on the streets of Adelaide.

Felipe tries to Fill Up here on the Auto Action Rev Limiter13 Mar 202400:51:39

F1 was another snoozefest, but everywhere else the action was hot. In stifling heat the Phillip Island Classic produced some of the most stunning old racers this country and New Zealand have to offer and the racing was good too, a lot of them now go to Adelaide this weekend. PG thought the NASCARs were racing in a car park they were using so much of the verge, and Filipe Massa has decided to spend a lot of money on lawyers to try and overturn the 2008 World Championship. And then we look at the Supercars at the Grand Prix and speculate on who might get their first win...All this and more.

Hats off to you. It's the Auto Action Rev Limiter06 Mar 202400:55:39

Hooray, F1 is back. Boo, Max Verstappen wins. The Bahrain Grand Prix was a little underwhelming, but at least there was racing... and scandal. There was plenty of scandel, but we don't do that stuff apparently, so we don't talk about Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner and noted female rights activist Jos Verstappen.

But we do talk Supercars, and there might not have been racing but there was plenty happening. The IndyCar Championship starts this weekend, and we look at whether Scott McLaughlin can win. We don't talk about hats either, because, frankly we don't care. It is not a big news item mate, get over it.

He's Back and It's Back. Bruce and Supercars return to the Auto Action Rev Limiter28 Feb 202400:53:44

Bruce is back this week after sitting on the bench with illness and a lack of fuel, and he joins Andrew and PG on the Auto Action Rev Limiter as they look at the latest in motorsport. Like a debrief of the first round of the Supercars Championship from Bathurst, plus we look at Super2 and wonder how six racing laps is worth 300 points, Touring Car Masters and the journey back to prominence, NASCAR, or more specifically Shane van Gisbergen, and a little motor racing series called Formula One.

Then we look at the Bathurst 12-Hour and tease a bumper Le Mans 24-Hour Race with talk of Hypercars and GT3 and we search for who will take us to the famous race.
