Just when it looked like a dismal sequence of 15 games without a league win against City was about to continue, Arsenal came up with another moment of late drama at Emirates Stadium that may yet be seen as one of the most significant moments in Arteta's time as manager if it has the galvanising impact it should have.

Four minutes remained, the main storyline looking like it would be yet another video assistant referee controversy. This time the debate was around how referee Michael Oliver somehow allowed Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic to remain on the pitch after a nasty scrape down the back of Martin Odegaard's ankle that brought a yellow card, followed by another poor challenge on Declan Rice shortly after that brought nothing - It should have brought Kovacic's early departure.

And then came that decisive moment. Gabriel Martinelli, excellent after appearing as a substitute at the start of the second half, fired in a shot in optimism that suddenly had the perfect outcome, deflecting off Nathan Ake past the stranded Ederson.

The stadium erupted in joy, scenes repeated when four minutes of stoppage time were over and Oliver sounded the final whistle.

Arsenal have got over a line that always seemed tantalisingly out of reach. We have won in the league against City after those 15 winless games in the past eight years, which included 12 straight losses.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how French side RC Lens came from behind to shock Arsenal in the Champions League.

The below-par Gunners rode some early pressure from Lens before Gabriel Jesus claimed a 14th-minute opener from a through-ball from Bukayo Saka, who then sadly went off injured.

Lens levelled 11 minutes later as Adrien Thomasson curled a superb finish into the far corner as a resuly of a David Raya mistake.

As Arsenal suffered their first loss of the season on a difficult night, they suffered another blow before Sunday's crunch Premier League meeting with Manchester City as England forward Saka went off after just 33 minutes.

Wahi's first-time finish into the bottom left corner from a Przemyslaw Frankowski cross in the 69th minute saw the home side seal a notable success.

If we are being honest, Lens were worthy of a win that took them to the top of Group B on four points, with Mikel Arteta's side second on three thanks to a draw in the other evenings fixture.

Sloppy in defence, Arsenal struggled to create clear-cut chances. Arsenal will look to bounce back in the Champions League when they travel to Sevilla in three weeks' time, while Lens host PSV.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal recorded a thumping win against Wolverhampton Wanderers to end a fine Premier League season with a flourish at Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta's side, who were already assured of second place, ended the campaign on 84 points - the Gunners' highest points tally since the 'Invincibles' team took the title with 90 in 2003-04.

Arsenal's unexpected and exciting title challenge may have collapsed in recent weeks, but we looked back to our best in this victory and were helped by passive opponents.

Granit Xhaka, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Bundesliga, set Arsenal on their way when he nodded in Gabriel Jesus' early cross from the right.

The Switzerland midfielder, who posted a 'Thank You Gunners' message on Instagram prior to kick-off, stroked in a second from close range to bring up Arsenal's 100th goal of the campaign in all competitions after Wolves defender Max Kilman inadvertently deflected the ball into his path.

With Wolves struggling to contain their fluent opponents, Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard combined down the right to present the ball to Bukayo Saka, who curled in a superb third.

Arsenal showed few signs of letting up after the break, with Jesus heading in their fourth at the back post from Trossard's pinpoint cross.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal clawed Manchester City's lead at the Premier League summit back to one point after they came out on top in a thriller against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Mikel Arteta's side, who have played one game more than the champions, responded superbly to the pressure exerted by Manchester City's victory over Leeds United to prevail in an action-packed, edgy encounter littered with chances on Tyneside.

Newcastle, attempting to strengthen their push for a place in the Champions League next season, started at lightning pace - Jacob Murphy hitting the post and having a penalty award overturned by VAR.

Arsenal, however, showed their strength and it was inspirational captain Martin Odegaard who followed up his double against Chelsea in midweek by drilling his 15th Premier League goal of the season past Newcastle keeper Nick Pope from 25 yards after 14 minutes.

What followed was a magnificent game full of opportunities in a frenzied atmosphere, Pope saving crucially from Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Odegaard before half-time. Martinelli also struck the bar after the break.

Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale also produced vital stops from Joe Willock and Fabian Schar, with Alexander Isak heading against the post, before The Gunners broke clear to wrap up the three points - Schar turning Martinelli's cross into his own net in the 71st minute.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal delivered an emphatic warning that they remain serious title contenders as they outclassed abysmal Chelsea at Emirates Stadium to return to the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners had gone four league games without a win and were heavily beaten last time out at reigning champions Manchester City, who replaced them at the summit with a victory at Fulham on Sunday.

Arsenal responded by producing a magnificent first-half display, racing into a 3-0 lead inside 34 minutes courtesy of two crisp strikes by captain Martin Odegaard and a scrambled finish by Gabriel Jesus.

Chelsea, who fell to a sixth straight loss under interim manager Frank Lampard, were thankful to goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga that the scoreline was not even more embarrassing and even pulled one back through Noni Madueke.

Arsenal, however, were never in serious danger and are now two points clear of City having played two games more than their title rivals.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss the 3-3 draw to bottom of the league, Southampton. Arsenal dropped points for the third consecutive game on Friday night. Late goals from Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka rescued a point for Mikel Arteta's side after falling 3-1 behind.

Plenty has been said about the Gunners' defensive woes after conceding seven goals in their last three games. William Saliba's absence has been a major blow, with no clean sheets being secured since he sustained a back injury.

After Saka levelled the scoring in the 90th minute, the Gunners were handed eight minutes of additional time to snatch a winner. Leandro Trossard clipped the crossbar with a long-range strike in their best chance.

However, the fight and spirit of the Arsenal squad can certainly not be questioned after they netted two late goals to rescue a valuable point.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss the disappointing draw away to West Ham in the Premier League. A close-range finish from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard's volley put the Gunners 2-0 ahead inside the opening 10 minutes at London Stadium as they looked to be cruising to the victory.

But, just as Arsenal did in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool last Sunday, Mikel Arteta's side could not hold on to their advantage and dropped valuable points in their title battle with Manchester City.

Said Benrahma's penalty, after Gabriel had brought down Lucas Paqueta, gave the Hammers a way back into the game, before Arsenal got a spot-kick of their own, following Michail Antonio's handball, but Bukayo Saka shot wide. That proved costly as the hosts scored less than three minutes later through Jarrod Bowen's superb volley from Thilo Kehrer's lofted pass.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss the 2-2 draw against Liverpool. It was all sweet and serene for Arteta's side as they led 2-0 with half-time approaching, goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus a fair reflection of an outstanding display up to that point. Liverpool were downtrodden and the only noise at Anfield came from joyous Arsenal fans and the sound of frustration from the Kop. And then Granit Xhaka disappointingly forgot all the lessons and got involved in a totally needless flashpoint with Trent Alexander-Arnold, enraging Liverpool's players and - just as significantly - Anfield, as it suddenly became the sort of frenzied bearpit this stadium and this crowd feeds off. Mohamed Salah's goal three minutes before half-time set up a second-half siege and what looked like three points for Arsenal became one after Roberto Firmino's late equaliser, and could easily have been none after a frantic finale. Salah missed the chance to equalise when he failed to hit the target with a penalty for the second time in succession after Rob Holding was deemed to have fouled Diogo Jota, which threw himself to the ground... Suddenly it was Arsenal hanging on, needing to show the resolve they have demonstrated so often this season, to withstand the pressure as volume levels rose. Aaron Ramsdale, who had kept his team level with a save from Darwin Nunez when he was clean through, was a heroic figure in the closing moments as he produced a magnificent fingertip save from Salah then miraculously kept out Ibrahima Konate's bundled effort from virtually on the goalline in the dying seconds. In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal thrashed Bournemouth 4 goals to 0. Kai Havertz scored his first goal for Arsenal with a penalty as we comfortably beat winless Bournemouth in the Premier League at Vitality Stadium.

Havertz, who has struggled since arriving from Chelsea in the summer, converted the second of two Gunners penalties to ensure their third consecutive away victory.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring, heading in the rebound from Gabriel Jesus' effort and Martin Odegaard scored a penalty to give Mikel Arteta's side a comfortable lead at the break.

The Gunners' dominance continued into the second half, and after Havertz scored, Ben White headed home from Odegaard's free-kick in added time to add gloss to a comprehensive victory for Arsenal.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Gabriel Jesus scored twice as Arsenal beat Leeds 4-1 to restore their eight-point advantage over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

With the pressure back on Arsenal after Manchester City's 4-1 win over Liverpool earlier in the day, the Gunners started nervously, with Leeds having the better of the early chances at the Emirates Stadium.

However, it was the league leaders who took the lead as Jesus was caught by Luke Ayling inside the penalty area, and the Brazilian picked himself up off the floor to convert the resulting penalty in the 35th minute. If there were nerves, they swiftly went away as Ben White doubled the advantage before Jesus grabbed his second of the afternoon.

Rasmus Kristensen pulled one back for the visitors in the 76th minute as Arsenal looked to close out the game. However, Granit Xhaka's strike six minutes from time sealed all three points as the Gunners, who have now won seven successive league games, restored their eight-point advantage and kept intact their dreams of a first title since 2004 with nine games left to play.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who started with Bukayo Saka on the bench because of illness, admitted his side's preparations for the game had been difficult, but he was pleased with the response of his players.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss the 4-1 home win in the Premier League against Crystal Palace. The Gunners went ahead at Emirates Stadium through Gabriel Martinelli's left-footed strike - his sixth goal in six league matches.

Bukayo Saka doubled the lead when he collected Ben White's pass and curled an effort past 19-year-old goalkeeper Joe Whitworth. Granit Xhaka made it 3-0 with a first-time finish from Leandro Trossard's assist before Jeffrey Schlupp pulled one back from close range following a corner for Palace's first goal in five matches. But the excellent Saka restored Arsenal's three-goal advantage with a guided finish from Kiernan Tierney's pull-back to seal the victory.

Manager Mikel Arteta challenged his Arsenal players to maintain their mindset following the international break after they beat Crystal Palace to go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League. The Gunners have won six consecutive league games as they aim to become champions for the first time since 2003-04.

Arsenal have 10 matches left, including clashes with Liverpool, second-placed Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle. Their next game is against Leeds at home on 1 April.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble  we discuss how Arsenal were knocked out of the Europa League at the last-16 stage in a penalty shootout defeat by Sporting Lisbon at Emirates Stadium.  

Gabriel Martinelli's spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Adan before Nuno Santos netted the winner to spark celebrations among Sporting's players following an eventful and entertaining tie.  

A sensational long-range chip by Pedro Goncalves from 46 yards forced extra time after Arsenal's Granit Xhaka had earlier pounced on a rebound for the opener.  Arsenal defender Gabriel came agonisingly close twice in the final minutes of extra time when his header was tipped over the bar, and then he had an effort cleared off the goalline.  

Sporting's Manuel Ugarte was also sent off after a dangerous sliding tackle on Bukayo Saka minutes before their shootout victory.  There were chances throughout in this frenetic second leg as Arsenal substitute Leandro Trossard hit the post in extra time when he was gifted possession and ran through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, only for Adan to touch it onto the woodwork.  

Sporting forward Marcus Edwards, previously at Tottenham, was also denied by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale minutes after Goncalves made it 1-1 in normal time.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal restored their five-point advantage at the top of the Premier League in outstanding fashion with a ruthless victory at Fulham.

Mikel Arteta's side responded to Manchester City's narrow victory at Crystal Palace on Saturday night by wrapping up this win by half-time as they opened up a 3-0 lead with a devastating attacking display.

Gabriel Martinelli had already had a goal narrowly ruled out for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), before defender Gabriel headed in Leandro Trossard's corner after 21 minutes - the first of a trio of assists for the Belgian.

Trossard then crossed for Martinelli to beat the static Antonee Robinson to head home at the far post five minutes later, before providing the delivery for captain Martin Odegaard's cool finish in first-half stoppage time.

Fulham mounted a belated threat after the break as visiting keeper Aaron Ramsdale denied Bobby de Cordova-Reid, while Tosin Adarabioyo headed against the woodwork.

Arsenal, however, were always in control and Arteta was able to re-introduce influential striker Gabriel Jesus for the first time since he required knee surgery after being injured playing for Brazil against Cameroon at the World Cup for a 13-minute cameo.

In this episode of  The Arsenal Ramble  we discuss how Arsenal secured a hard-earned draw against Sporting Lisbon in a strange Europa League last-16 first leg.  France defender William Saliba put the Premier League leaders ahead with a towering header from a corner by Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira.  

But Arsenal's lead lasted just 12 minutes, Goncalo Inacio nodding home the equaliser after hesitancy from keeper Matt Turner following a corner by English winger Marcus Edwards.

In an absorbing game in the Portuguese capital, Paulinho fired Sporting ahead only for Arsenal to equalise through an own goal by Japan midfielder Hidemasa Morita.  Both teams created numerous chances in a free-flowing encounter.

In this episode of  @TheArsenalRamble  we discuss how Arsenal came from two goals down to beat Bournemouth!  Bournemouth had taken the lead after just 9.11 seconds through Philip Billing, and went 2-0 up via a Marco Senesi header. However Arsenal pulled level with goals by Thomas Partey and Ben White, before Nelson struck. The winger, making his first appearance since 12 November, slammed in from 25 yards in the seventh minute of stoppage time.  

Arsenal's Premier League lead is restored to five points, after they had seemed certain to cede ground to Manchester City, winners over Newcastle in the early kick-off.  Billing's goal was the second-quickest in Premier League history - only Shane Long, who scored for Southampton after 7.69 seconds at Watford in April 2019, has netted faster.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points as they thrashed struggling Everton at Emirates Stadium.

Sean Dyche's side, who remain in the relegation places, frustrated Arsenal until five minutes before half-time, when Oleksandr Zinchenko's pass played in Bukayo Saka for a thumping finish. The contest was effectively over in first-half stoppage time when Saka robbed the dawdling Idrissa Gueye to play in Gabriel Martinelli. The flag went up for offside after he drove past Jordan Pickford but the decision was overturned after a VAR check.

Everton had no answers and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard wrapped up their third successive league victory when he side-footed home Leandro Trossard's cross after 71 minutes. It was now simply a question of how many Arsenal would score to improve their goal difference, Martinelli adding his second and the Gunners' fourth from Eddie Nketiah's cross ten minutes from time.

Martinelli once again demonstrated his rich promise with two crisp finishes but Saka was the star of the show, giving a glorious illustration of his significance to this Arsenal side. He became the sixth-youngest player in Premier League history, at 21, to reach 50 goals and assists as he ensured the frustration that threatened Arsenal was wiped away in the crucial minutes before half-time.

In this episode of  @TheArsenalRamble  we discuss how Arsenal retained their place at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Leicester, secured by Gabriel Martinelli's goal early in the second half.  The Gunners' victory piled the pressure on Manchester City ahead of their game at Bournemouth on Saturday evening - which they won 4-1 - with the champions also having played one more game than Mikel Arteta's side.  

Arsenal dominated the contest at the King Power Stadium but went into half-time level after Leandro Trossard's brilliant curling finish was disallowed following a VAR review for a foul on Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward by Ben White.   But Martinelli helped to soften that blow just moments into the second half when he slid the ball past Ward after latching onto Trossard's pass, and Arteta's team comfortably saw out the contest to record back-to-back wins for the first time in over a month.

Nelson finished coolly in the eighth minute following a misplaced pass from Brentford defender Zanka, with Mikel Arteta's much-changed team then holding off a second-half rally from the hosts.

The Bees went closest through Yoann Wissa, who saw a low strike brilliantly pushed onto the post by Aaron Ramsdale, back in goal for Arsenal for the first time since losing his place to David Raya.

Jakub Kiwior then pulled off a goal-line block from substitute Lewis Keane-Potter as Arsenal withstood more late Brentford pressure to ensure a winning response to their north London derby draw with Tottenham which sets up a trip to West Ham in the next round.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal snatched a late win at Aston Villa to secure a monumental boost to our Premier League title dream.

Aston Villa wasted no time in putting the title challengers under pressure, Matty Cash stealing the ball of Oleksandr Zinchenko in the fifth minute to send Ollie Watkins over the top. The striker held off William Saliba and slammed a composed effort past Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal had not woken up for the lunchtime kick-off until Tyrone Mings headed a cross into his own danger area, picking out the in-form Bukayo Saka to lash the Gunners level on 16 minutes.

Plenty of pressure followed from The Arsenal yet Emi Martinez was rarely tested, opening the way for Villa to retake the lead on another blistering counter-attack.

Precise play down the left led to Philippe Coutinho latching onto Alex Moreno’s cross after a fine Emi Buendia dummy, the Brazilian firing home his first Premier League goal in 272 days.

Arsenal took time but rallied anew, Eddie Nketiah nodding a header onto the top of the crossbar in a warning sign before Oleksandr Zinchenko slammed home his first Arsenal goal for 2-2 on the hour mark.

Martin Odegaard missed a perfect chance to put the Gunners ahead after Ezri Konsa handed the ball to Nketiah in his own box, the Norwegian placing his effort wide with the goal gaping.

Villa created their opportunity to score late as Leon Bailey’s fantastic first touch set him through on goal, firing onto the underside of the crossbar via a faint, but vital, touch from Aaron Ramsdale.

But the winner was to come for Arsenal as Jorginho’s injury-time piledriver cracked the underside of the crossbar and went in off Martinez’s head.

The reigning champions turned on the power in the second half in the biggest game of the domestic season as Arsenal paid a heavy price for individual errors.

Takehiro Tomiyasu's poor backpass allowed Kevin de Bruyne to loft a finish over Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after 24 minutes but Arsenal deservedly drew level three minutes before half-time, Bukayo Saka scoring from the spot after City goalkeeper Ederson fouled Eddie Nketiah.

Man City, lacking spark in the opening phase, improved after the break and had a penalty of their own ruled out for offside against Erling Haaland before they showed a ruthless streak to punish Arsenal.

Gabriel lost possession to allow Bernardo Silva and Haaland to set up Jack Grealish for a deflected finish after 72 minutes before they ended Arsenal's hopes with 10 minutes left. Inevitably, Haaland was the scorer from De Bruyne's pass to put City top on goal difference having played one game more than Arsenal.

Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta must not get too down on themselves, although the scale of the setback here cannot be underestimated in the context of the title race. The Gunners were excellent in the first 45 minutes but Tomiyasu's poor back pass and Gabriel's concession of possession were the sort of mistakes you simply cannot make against this class of opponent.

Mikel Arteta believed the equaliser should have been ruled out due to Ethan Pinnock standing in an offside position while blocking Gabriel as the ball was delivered into the area from a free-kick. The PGMOL have since issued an apology to Arsenal who have confirmed their error. In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we talk about the HUGE 3-1 win vs Manchester Utd. Arsenal scored twice in stoppage time to secure a dramatic victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. In a chaotic finale to a largely scrappy game, Man United first thought they had snatched three points only to see Alejandro Garnacho's 88th-minute finish ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee with the score 1-1. The drama then switched to the other end in eight added minutes as Declan Rice's deflected shot gave Arsenal the lead before substitute Gabriel Jesus raced clear to wrap up the win as the stadium exploded in elation. United had taken the lead in the 27th minute when Christian Eriksen's pass played in Marcus Rashford, who cut inside to send an unerring right-foot drive past Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale. The Gunners, who had already spurned a golden chance when the struggling Kai Havertz miskicked with the goal at his mercy, were level almost instantly when captain Martin Odegaard was given too much space and sent an emphatic finish into the bottom corner. In an encounter that rarely hit the heights despite lots of effort, Arsenal - who had seen a penalty over-turned by the VAR after referee Anthony Taylor originally ruled Havertz had been fouled - missed a glorious late opportunity when Bukayo Saka shot straight at Andre Onana. United saw celebrations cut short with two minutes left when substitute Garnacho raced clear to score, but the VAR ruled he was just offside - opening the door for Arsenal to produce two devastating blows. Saka equalised from the penalty spot for the Gunners after Fabio Vieira was caught by Kenny Tete.

Nketiah scored Arsenal's second as they came from behind to take the lead, before Fulham had the final word.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss how Arsenal overcame Takehiro Tomiyasu's second-half sending-off as Martin Odegaard's well-taken penalty was enough to secure a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Monday Night.

The Gunners made it two wins from two at the start of the new Premier League season at Selhurst Park, as Odegaard's 53rd-minute spot-kick proved the difference despite referee David Coote's questionable decision to red-card Tomiyasu for two quick bookable offences.

It led to a period of sustained pressure on Aaron Ramsdale's goal late on with Tyrick Mitchell firing over but the hosts were unable to unlock Arsenal's stubborn defence as Mikel Arteta's men ground out a victory which moves them level on points with Brighton and Manchester City at the Premier League summit.

In this episode of @TheArsenalRamble we discuss the opening Premier League home win against Nottingham Forest.

Proceedings at the Emirates Stadium were delayed by half an hour as Arsenal's new digital ticketing caused chaos, leaving fans unable to get into the ground. The slated 12.30pm kick-off time was eventually pushed back, allowing the ground to fill up before the action got underway.

Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz all started for Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, with Eddie Nketiah up front in a side brimming with attacking talent.

Arsenal, who started the game slowly, clicked into gear. Gabriel Martinelli showed a great change of pace to get down the outside of Serge Aurier before a superb roulette turn saw the ball break to Eddie Nketiah. He shifted the ball in-field and fired a deflected low shot beyond former Arsenal reserve goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Saka then showed his limitless talent six minutes later with a glorious second goal. The 21-year-old picked the ball up in the right channel, shifted it onto his favoured foot and bent a stupendous effort past the forlorn Turner the ball into the top corner.

It wasn't all good news for Arsenal - Timber limped off in the early exchanges of the second half after a sudden, worrying jolt of his knee - as despite dominating possession, they failed to kill the game off.

Forest, having offered little to nothing, burst into life after Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga were introduced late in the second half, and the pair combined superbly to halve the deficit - former Manchester United winger Elanga squaring the ball after breaking at pace for Awoniyi to powerfully slam home from close range.

Morgan Gibbs-White then fired over as the game opened up but Arsenal clung on to clinch an, in the end, hard-earned three points.
