1. Kevin meets Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson

Saison 4 · Épisode 3

lundi 17 février 2025Durée 20:48

Send us a text

All 4 Inclusion presenter Kevin Daws catches up with Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson.

Kevin started interviewing people in written form to celebrate Disability History Month for All 4 Inclusion in October 2024. Following the success of these Interviews it was decided that we would continue these using our podcast and YouTube channel to present them.

You will also be able to catch up with them on our website too.

Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson has won 16 Paralympic medals, 11 of which are gold and won the London Marathon 6 times.

She played a big part in bringing London 2012 to reality for Paralympians.

Some may argue some of her biggest challenges have been away from sport. Battling society as a wheelchair user.

Born with Spina Bifida, Tanni had parents that pushed her to become the best version of herself that she could be and in turn encouraged her to help other disabled and non disabled people where possible.

Nate Williams, co founder of The Ability Group in Sport talks to us about finding his dream job and then setting up a platform to enable others to do this too.

Whilst we talk about Nate's career, this is very transferable. Nate discussed a wider team learning from disabled colleagues - this could be done in a call centre, shop floor, education facilities etc.... Having and being proactive to an inclusion policy, allows businesses to grow faster.

Nate has travelled the world, gaining access to different sporting venues, meeting lots of different people. This allows him to call upon his lived experience - he knows what inclusive looks like, he knows what accessible looks like from the perspective of a wheelchair user. He knows what it looks like for people who suffer from other disabilities too, because he is proactive in finding out what inclusion looks like for different people.

#22 An insight to Spinal Muscular Atrophy

Saison 2 · Épisode 6

mercredi 14 septembre 2022Durée 39:36

Send us a text

Ross Hovey has Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2 ( SMA ), although under today's criteria he may have been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 3.

August was Spinal Muscular Atrophy awareness month, but we believe education needs to last longer than a month.

The NHS state on their website that intelligence is not impacted by having Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Listening to this podcast you will not see Ross in a wheelchair and will not see the lack of movement. Talking to Ross before the recording we spoke about our careers, he asked me a lot about my story and we talked about football. It won't take anyone a long time in Ross's company to understand that he is not only a intelligent man but also a very social one too.

We discuss how Spinal Muscular Atrophy impacted on Ross's education, social life and his career. He tells us what he would of done differently had he had his time again and he shares three tips for others either with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
