Ben admits he didn't know who Taya was when he first met her — but he pursued her, waited three years to start dating her and that taught him so much about trusting God, not just for what's in front of you, but trusting Him for what He said! Christian has a particular beef with his guest today: Michael Byron works for Delta, lives in Atlanta, yet has never visited Monroe, a 1-hr flight away? Michael defends why he hasn't been to visit yet, but says working for Delta and working and vacationing with his colleagues has grown his faith and encouraged him to not be hypocritical or too judgmental. Michael talks about his jiu-jitsu training and marvels at how much it continues to teach him humility and to NEVER judge anyone by their outward appearance. Christian chats with his college friend — and first single friend he's had on the podcast — Chad Barfield about the times in life that have felt like a wilderness but can actually be the most spiritually redeeming and fruitful. Chad was a Plainsman at Auburn, and he says he always knew what his "next" was until COVID. He finished college without a graduation, and all the "sure things" he thought he had lined up didn't pan out that way. Chad found himself living in his car and going to job interviews, and he couldn't shake the thought that this wasn't how his life was supposed to be. Now, he's a seminary student working in a church with middle schoolers, but he says the call to ministry on his life was made very apparent in a particularly tough moment in his family's life. Chad encourages us that God knows us the BEST out of anybody, so when we find ourselves in a "wilderness" time, we need to be confident in who we are and who we belong to! 

 

Christian and his good friend, Bradley Northcutt — the guy who's "had more fitness journeys than anyone Christian's ever met" — first bonded over shared boxes of leftover Krispy Kreme donuts that were about to be thrown out. Bradley admits he's been convicted recently of his inconsistency in his time with the Lord, so he and Sage (previous episode's guest) decided to move their workout time to 4:30am to give more time for a daily one-on-one with Jesus. Bradley and Christian both confess their pride can often be a big hurdle in their relationship with their wives and how awful it is to be a "sore loser" in pickleball or poker games. Plus, there is a BIG difference between being content and being comfortable. Bradley says being comfortable is dangerous for the Christian. And both guys encourage us to be generous with everything God has given us. It's not ours, it never was, so why be stingy with blessing others?

Sage Ledbetter joins Christian to discuss some "dumb stuff" they experienced throughout college years, including large bets to defeat a porn addiction, Fortnite habits, and efforts to stop vaping. Christian says Sage is a servant-hearted person, a quality he greatly admires in him, but how did that change when Sage married his wife? Sage confesses it wasn't until he figured out how to BEST serve his wife that she could fully receive the love and care he was showing her. Sage also shares the story from his time playing for Auburn and his legendary punishment for being 5 minutes late ... twice! Christian is excited to speak with Reeves Walker, the lead singer of LO Worship, a songwriter, a newlywed, and someone who is "amazed at what God drops" on his heart. Reeves spent a lot of time running from being alone and just with his thoughts. His need to be liked and accepted overwhelmed every area of his life, leading to substance abuse and addiction. But one night changed everything for him as he studied for a midterm. Reeves and Christian discuss what their "breaking points" were and why it wasn't necessarily their lowest points that required change. "We're just two dudes trying to figure it out" is a great way to describe the conversation Christian has with his new friend, Luke Albritton. Their wives introduced them, and they've gotten to know each other best through regular meetups at the gym, working out together, sharing prayer requests, and using the time to talk though wins and losses. Luke gets honest about how difficult it was to become a husband, learning how to serve his wife well, and how the transition to being a new dad has been a blessing, but a difficult blessing. Luke says he's always been active, from working as a boy on his family's farm to lifting weights in high school. He confesses that his "I can outwork anyone in the room" mentality that he was brought up with became a selfish, prideful desire about his own abilities and comparing himself to others and how he still strives to overcome that. Christian is excited to welcome Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr. to the podcast. Rich and his wife, DawnCheré, are the lead pastors of VOUS Church in Miami. Their heart for their city and for the next generation is an inspiration! Rich points out that he and Christian both share an important thing in common: wives from Louisiana! Rich wants to encourage us to remember our body is a temple, but it's God who is in charge of it — we're merely stewards. Plus, Rich explains why working out early on Sunday mornings — before a long, very full day — is absolutely key for his physical and mental strength. He's even nicknamed it "church before church." He also talks about why habits and practices are SO important, not just for physical training, but for mental health, spiritual health, and all-around well-being. Be addicted to PROGRESS, not perfection! The keep-going mentality, however big or small those steps are — and the consistency of those steps — is way more important than any "perfection." It's not what you're doing OCCASIONALLY that matters, but what you're doing CONSISTENTLY.

Craig Groeschel, pastor of Life.Church and host of the "Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast," joins Christian for a frank, encouraging and convicting conversation. Craig has a lot to say about forming good habits, breaking bad ones, and the way discipline begets discipline. Starting small can often be the hardest, most important step! Craig and Christian discover they both dislike flossing, but the discipline of the teeth-cleaning ritual is what they both place value on, so the flossing continues! Christian is incredibly excited to speak with Rich Froning, the first person to win the title of "Fittest Man on Earth" after winning first place in the 2011 to 2014 CrossFit Games. Rich talks about where he gets his motivation to compete at such a high level, including a lot of busywork chores when he was growing up and having 25 male cousins who were always competing. Rich admits that as he gets older, he's not as interested in team competition and chooses to prioritize his family. While winning is certainly fun, the physical and emotional toll the training and competition takes is tough. Rich also recalls how placing second in the CrossFit Games was his rock bottom and a wake-up call that CrossFit had become not just his identity but an idol in his life. How do you fight against idolizing it? It's a daily battle. Finally, Rich shares how he keeps a tally of how he's measuring up each day in three categories: faith, family, and fitness.

Reluctant "Duck Dynasty" star and "Unashamed" podcast host Phil Robertson joins Christian to talk about why he walked away from a pro football career and encouraged his backup QB, Terry Bradshaw, to take his place. Phil also talks about the decision to turn his life over to the Lord. Over 45 years ago, Phil's sister said to a pastor about her brother: "If you convert him, he'll convert thousands." Phil tells Christian he never thought he'd be speaking to the world about Jesus Christ, but it's one of the great joys and privileges of his life, and he's fired up about Jesus returning! Phil's son, Al Robertson, joins the conversation to share his childhood experience of watching countless young men drift toward his dad to ask for advice and instruction. While Phil wasn't following Jesus at that time, it was an incredible foreshadowing of Phil's future leadership in sharing the Gospel. Phil encourages us to "just do good like Jesus did ... and we'll be all right."

Christian is joined by Adam Klink, who just competed in the Leadville Trail 100 Run in Colorado. Adam gets brutally honest and for the first time shares what happened during that 24-hour run — how he adjusted to the higher altitude, how he pushed his body as far as he possibly could, and why his food plan didn't work. Adam was also the first to complete a 500-lb back squat and to run a sub-5 minute mile in the same day, which is something Christian just attempted, and they talk about how they both prepared and trained for this feat. Adam reminds us that success is often measured by the effort, not the outcome — and that's something only you can know: You gave it everything you had, you couldn't give it any more, and you're the personal judge of those feelings. If you gave 100% of everything you had, that's a success! Plus, sometimes it's a bigger learning opportunity to NOT make your goal on the first attempt. And a closing encouragement, especially to all the influencers out there: If you only showcase your wins, sure, that's cool, but isn't it more relatable for people if you're sharing your struggles too? Show people your hard days, your better days, the things you love, the things that haven't worked as well. Share it!

John-David talks about the ups and downs of his weight-loss journey and what it was like to walk 10K steps a day for 450+ days and then a second time for 365 days. Plus, they share how their friendship grew while attending a powerful men's retreat together. Christian shares a hilarious — and horrifying — early morning encounter he had with an unwanted visitor. John-David cautions us not to lose sight of the bigger picture when you're working toward your goals. The best approach is everything in moderation —  except your faith! He also reveals his journey to becoming the spiritual leader of his household and why doing the dishes was a huge first step.
