All will be revealed as we relive the UK top 40 singles chart from this week 20 years ago.

*Which rapper lost the demo of his second album in a threesome?

*Which 2000s pop star was the face of the water brand that had a very unfortunate tagline involving spunk?

*Which indie girlie of 2004's mum was in the Carry On films?

*Which X Factor winner did Busted call "rude"?

All that plus songs from some of the 2000s' biggest pop stars, including Busted, Britney, Anastasia, Rachel Stevens, Jamelia, Usher and McFly.

The UK top 40 this time 20 years ago starring Sam & Mark, Fatman Scoop and Ronan 'Roaming' Keating (21 February 2004)20 Feb 202401:19:00

WE'RE BACK! DID YOU MISS US?

On holiday last week, I decided I couldn't bear to take time away from relaxing to talk about a crappy selection of pop songs...and this week's not much better. Luckily, Ronan Keating decided to make the week worth it by doing one of the most absurd pieces of promotional tie-in I have ever seen. (Maybe he should have taken his own advice when he said that you say it best when they say nothing at all...)

Elsewhere of the podcast where every week we're celebrating the music of the 00s one top 40 at a time: Why are rappers so obsessed with the Holiday Inn? Which trance DJ has a Dutch equivalent of an OBE? Which band's bassist's house once got burned down by a drug dealer? Answers to all those questions plus the best and worst of pop music this time two decades ago.

Pink, Janet Jackson's "nipplegate" and Emma Bunton playing a sex worker and a mugger (7 February 2004)07 Feb 202401:21:50

This week 20 years ago, Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson's breast live on the Super Bowl. We all know it had a huge effect on Janet's career, but did you know it also effected Britney Spears, Maroon 5, Incubus and Blink-182?

On this week's episode of the pop music podcast where every week we celebrate the music of the 2000s one singles chart at a time, we explore one of the most infamous performances of 2004 and ask some more questions you've literally never asked. Is God is a DJ and life is a dancefloor, what is a toilet? Which of the golden rules of pop music did Joss Stone break, and which of Henry VIII's wives did she play? Which cursed duet did Jamelia and Johnny Borrell from Razorlight perform?

All these questions are answered on this week's show plus music from Pink, Emma Bunton, Snow Patrol, LMC Vs U2 and more.

A Beyoncé flop, and important indie song and the slow death of Top of the Pops (24 January 2004)23 Jan 202401:27:17
MIDDLE OF THE ROAD EARLY 2000s INDIE IS FINALLY DEAD, AND FRANZ FERDINAND ARE THE ONES WHO'VE KILLED IT. In this week's episode of the podcast celebrating the pop music of the 2000s one UK top 40 singles chart at a time, Beyoncé struggles to hit the top 10 while Kelis thrives. I find a totally organic way of talking about *that* Jennifer Lopez trailer. I rant about everything that went wrong with Top of the Pops and much, much more 00s pop music goodness.

Kelis, Sean Paul, Michelle McManus feat. Parachuting Babies (17 January 2004)17 Jan 202401:20:37

My podcast brings all the (gay) boys to the yard, and they're like...let's celebrate another excellent and nostalgic week for pop music.

This week on the podcast celebrating the music of the 2000s one UK top 40 singles chart at a time: Sean Paul dominated the 2003 charts with five top 5 hits, but can he match that success with his first single of 2004? What exactly is Kelis' milkshake, and why is it better than yours? Michelle McManus is releasing her first single after winning Pop Idol, but can All This Time go all the way to number one?

Find out the answers to all those questions and more, and enjoy 2000s era classics from Basement Jaxx, Flip & Fill, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, R.E.M. and more.

Welcome to 2004 with Victoria Beckham, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and S Club 8 (10 January 2004)10 Jan 202401:15:24
A new year, and a new UK top 40 singles chart that started 2004 off with a pop music bang bang. Victoria Beckham returned with Let Your Head Go/This Groove and tried to become the last Spice Girl to get a number 1 hit. Sophie Ellis-Bextor's people decided to have another chart battle with Posh Spice. Plus, remember Alistair Griffin? Me neither, but he was on the charts 20 years ago today.

The Top 40 Best Songs of 200303 Jan 202401:36:28

A happy new year from the whole 2000s Chart Show team (aka literally just me). Next week, we'll be discussing the 2004 pop charts, but we're not quite ready to say goodbye to 2003 just yet. And so it's time to celebrate a great year of music with the best music from this time 20 years ago.

Expect the good (Beyonce, Madonna, Kylie, Britney, Girls Aloud), the bad (the way the public let Sinead Quinn flop) and the weird (The Cheeky Girls and a number one song you really won't see coming...)

The Last Great Battle for Christmas Number One (24 December 2023)24 Dec 202301:20:07

SURPRISE! As an early Christmas present, we're talking about the end of a British institution: The race for Christmas number one. By 2004, The X Factor will ruin it for everyone. But the annual chart battle will go with a bang with a fight between The Darkness, Sugababes, Atomic Kitten, Bo Selecta, Blue, Michael Andrews/Gary Jules, the Pop Idol finalists. and the Fast Food Rockers.

Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Rachel Stevens and J-Rock Big Brovaz Getting it On with 'Scooby Doo'20 Dec 202301:21:57

Christmas is in the air...and it's feeling distinctly cheeky. Crack open the mulled wine and put sleigh bells on top of all random pop songs because we have big festive hits from Cliff Richard, John Lennon and The Cheeky Girls alongside 'new' chart entries from: Alicia Keys, Big Brovaz, Christina Aguilera, Evanescence, Good Charlotte, Jay-Z, Lost Brothers, Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Noddy (yes, that Noddy), Ozzy Osbourne, Rachel Stevens and Texas.

As ever, we're The 2000s Chart Show, the pop music podcast that every week celebrates the singles chart from 20 years ago. A must listen for the pop maniacs out there.

Black Eyed Peas, Nelly and Gareth Gates feat. Ginger Racism13 Dec 202301:22:38

The last great Christmas chart battle is getting ever closer, but first on the podcast we have to contend with Black Eyed Peas telling us to Shut Up and Will Young telling us to Leave Right Now.

This week on the 2000s pop music podcast where every week we celebrate the UK Top 40 singles chart from 20 years ago we have 'new' entries from Dido, Gareth Gates, Black Eyed Peas, Blu Cantrell, Nelly, Simply Red, Daniel O'Donnell (phwoar), Muse, Kate Melua, D-Side and Delta Goodrem. Plus all the usual 2003-era pop nonsense.

Will Young, Shane Richie, Mary J Blige and Some Terrible Christmas Music (6 December 2003)08 Dec 202301:09:09
On the podcast where every week we're reliving the UK top 40s singles charts from 20 years ago, it's a bit of a case of the calm before the storm. 2003 has one of the greatest Christmas chart battles in music history....but first we have all the dross they're too scared to release at Christmas. Including Alfie Moon off EastEnders' Children in Need single, the song that got Limp Bizkit bottled not once but twice and new songs from No Doubt, Blink-182, Ja Rule Meat Loaf and Dizzee Rascal.

Girls Aloud, Kelly Clarkson, Mis-Teeq and Shady, Shady Lemar29 Nov 202301:20:56

IT'S THE GREAT FAME ACADEMY CHART BATTLE THE WORLD* (*about 14 people) HAS BEEN WAITING FOR: Alex 'I would rather be on a trapeze right now' Parks vs Lemar, If there's any justice in the world (see what I did there) Maybe That's What It Takes will take it, but pop music and the music charts are never simple.

Also on the show: Mis-Teeq shill a flop line of hip-hop dolls, James Busted is revealed as the writer of an iconic Saturdays song, and Kimberley Girls Aloud reveals her shocking opinion about donkeys. All that plus music from Westlife, Pet Shop Boys, Shania Twain, Kelly Clarkson and more.

Britney Spears, Busted, Missy Elliott and Atrocious AI Stand-Up (22 November 2003)22 Nov 202301:20:58

This time 20 years ago, two of the biggest pop stars of all time teamed up. Nope, it's not Javine and Ronan Keating (though they're both of this week's chart too) but Britney Spears and Madonna. Can the combined talents of the queen and princess of pop beat Busted. The British record buying love them...just don't trust them to do your dishes, as a very weird Top of the Pops Magazine interview discussed.

On this week's edition of The 2000s Chart Show, we're discussing all those iconic pop music acts and more, with 'new' tracks from Missy Elliott, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Melanie C, Basement Jaxx and one of the best songs ever written (and this time, I don't mean some random Amy Studt track that only I care about I mean it for real!)

Kylie Minogue, Blazin Squad, Robbie Williams and Justin The Darkness' shocking past (Nov 15 2003)15 Nov 202301:11:25

Kylie's dancing on towels, Blazin Squad have released their "consensual bumming anthem" and Robbie Williams' daughter may be the future of journalism...it could only be another week of The 2000s Chart Show, celebrating the pop music of 20 years ago one singles chart at a time.

With new releases from all the above plus Goldfrapp, Jet, Johnny Cash, Matt Goss and two cursed acts I can't even bring myself to talk about.

  • Who once threw a tambourine at a woman at a gig after fighting with her over whether Northampton was a "sh*thole" or not
  • How Estelle forced John Legend to work with her

Beyoncé and Fast Food Rockers feat. Banksy's True Identity Revealed?!! (18 October 2003)17 Oct 202301:16:36

AUDIO SHOULD BE FIXED NOW!!! As I'm writing this I've just got home from seeing Madonna. I'm alive with the spirit of pop music. How can I write about Fast Food Rockers after what I've seen.

Nevertheless, write about Fast Food Rockers I must. They are one of the 14 new entries we talk about this week on your favourite podcast about 2000s pop music nostalgia. That plus much more hilarious music conversation. Find out which Britpop band features Richard Osmond from Pointless' brother. Which band's bassist is one of the most boring people in the world. And of course, the true identity of Banksy. Maybe. Plus the usual bad accents and general fun.

Elvis Presley has have been dead for 26 years in 2003 but that doesn't stop him for going for his 18th number one single on the charts. Delta Goodrem won't let a serious health scare stop her from trying to get the top spot with Innocent Eyes. And Clea won't let being rejected by the British public AND Javine stop them from being one of the 2000s' best flop girl bands.

All that and new singles from Evanescence, The Darkness, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Metallica, Feeder (joy) and Jurgen Vries,

Girls Aloud get cold, Dizzee Rascal gets stabbed and Pete Doherty goes to jail30 Aug 202301:12:33

WE ARE NOT A TRUE CRIME PODCAST, but there is truly a lot of crime talk this week on the 2000s pop music podcast taking you through the top 40 singles chart from 20 years ago.

In summer 2003, Dizzee Rascal got stabbed in Ayia Napa, just months before winning the Mercury Prize – and Lisa Maffia allegedly was involved (she denies involvement). At the same time, Pete Doherty was arrested for breaking into his own bandmate's house as revenge for him being dropped from The Libertines. If that wasn't bad enough, Girls Aloud committed the ultimate crime: Releasing a single not quite as banging as their last two releases.

All this and more is discussed on the latest episode of your favourite 00s nostalgia podcast, as well as brand new (at least, brand new two decades ago) songs from Good Charlotte, Lemar and Radiohead.

Busted, A Weirdly Erotic David Sneddon and "Naked Cocaine Stupors" (23 August 2003)22 Aug 202301:17:12

Busted were the first act to ever have a number one hit on this podcast (in our unaired pilot), so it's great to see the boys back. Will Sleeping With the Light On be their second nunber one in the UK top 40 singles chart, or will 'classic' pop songs from Kelis, David Sneddon, Stacie Orrico, P. Diddy and more stand in their way.

Find out in this latest episode of the podcast dedicated to celebration the pop music of the 00s, one top 40 single at a times. We relive some of the biggest hits of 2003, laugh at some unexpected flops, and learn a lot about the 2000s.

Which previously incarcerated rapper is now a major politician in Belize? Which attempted pop princes began life as a Christian rock artist. And why was David Sneddon weirdly sexy performing his latest single on Top of the Pops? All will be revealed in your new favourite pop music and 2000s nostalgia podcast.

Cheeky Girls and Kelly Rowland feat. Pharrell's cat vendetta (16 August 2003)16 Aug 202301:23:36

This week we have an episode with everything. If by everything you mean sad stories about the Cheeky Girls, a countdown of the top 10 highest-selling monophonic ringtones and a hilarious story about when I accidentally snogged someone to the tune of Jessie J's 'Price Tag'.

"Ok, whatever," I hear you cry to no one in particular, "but what actually is the show about." Well it's a chart show revisiting the UK top 40 singles chart from this time 20 years ago. Except unlike the actual chart show, this show has honest opinions about each pop song on the chart. And also a slight crush on Daniel Bedingfield, but that's a story for another day.

Basically, it's 2000s nostalgia and sassy pop music talk. Get into it, and get into the songs we're talking about this week:
