S8E433 - Hüsker Dü 'Warehouse: Songs and Stories' with Mark Earnest

Saison 8 · Épisode 433

samedi 1 novembre 2025Durée 01:14:11

Arguably one of the most important groups of the 1980s, St Paul Minnesota punk rock trio Hüsker Dü paved the way for 90s indie superstars Nirvana and a host of others while never quite reaching anything close to that level of success in their short 9-year existence. This week's guest, Reno, NV musician and writer Mark Earnest (Kanawha, Manchild), joins us to discuss their sixth - and final - studio release, Warehouse: Songs and Stories. A sprawling, sonic battlefield between dual songwriters Bob Mould and Grant Hart, the double record is a harrowing, at times beautiful soundtrack to a band falling apart.

Saison 8 · Épisode 424

samedi 6 septembre 2025Durée 01:03:45

New York City singer/songwriter Robert Scheffler joins us this week with an artist Rob somehow slept on all these years - Aimee Mann. Her second full-length, 1995's "I'm With Stupid", is the one that did it for Robert, and her deceptively biting songcraft and the record's dense, layered guitars made a true believer of your humble host.

Songs discussed in this episode: Voices Carry ('Til Tuesday cover) - Gang Green; Always, Excuse The Mess, Basher - Robert Scheffler; Up The Junction - Squeeze; Long Shot, Choice In The Matter - Aimee Mann; Animal Nitrate - Suede; Sugarcoated, You Could Make A Killing, Superball, Amateur - Aimee Mann; When The Hangover Strikes, I Think I'm Go Go - Squeeze; All Over Now, Par For The Course, You're With Stupid Now, That's Just What You Are, Frankenstein, Ray, It's Not Safe, *hidden track - Aimee Mann; We're All Waiting - Robert Scheffler

When we asked this week's guest, Grammy Award winning fiddler/singer/songwriter Louis Michot (Lost Bayou Ramblers) to choose a record to discuss, he went with an album that captured his imagination as a young up-and-coming Louisiana musician and has mystified him ever since: Pink Floyd's fascinating 1971 release, 'Meddle'.
