How to Find Your Secret Thailand26 Oct 202600:57:35

How do you discover the Thailand beyond the familiar, "group think," itineraries and Instagram hotspots? For Bangkok Bill, it started with a friendship at a Thai restaurant back in the United States, and led to connections that changed his life.

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, Bill Mullen shares how real relationships, shared interests, and a little flexibility can help you discover a Thailand that feels like the universe made this journey personal, and just for you.

In this episode:

  • How Bill’s friendship with Nan opened doors to Thailand, and how you can start making connections before leaving home.
  • What a Destination Management Company (DMC) does and how to ask your travel advisor for a more personal itinerary.
  • How Bill met his wife on a Thai dating app, plus his personal experiences making connections through those apps.
  • Ways to meet people through shared activities, language exchanges, hostels, and small guesthouses.
  • Why leaving room in your itinerary (if you are not traveling in the high season) makes it easier to follow an unexpected recommendation.

Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with friends, finding your own secret Thailand begins with curiosity, and a deeper conversation.

Just Beyond Bangkok: A Wooden Sanctuary, a Giant Elephant, and an Ancient City20 Oct 202600:42:27

Looking for things to do just beyond Bangkok? Join "Bangkok Bill" as he explores three extraordinary cultural attractions connected by the vision of one man, Khun Lek Viriyaphant: the Sanctuary of Truth in northern Pattaya, the Erawan Museum, and Ancient City, also known as Muang Boran, in Samut Prakan.

Discover the intricate wooden carvings and life questions behind the Sanctuary of Truth, step inside the museum beneath a gigantic three-headed elephant, and explore an outdoor collection of temples, palaces, and traditional architecture at the Ancient City - Bill’s strongest recommendation of the three.

Along the way, hear how Bill discovered he was born on a Monday, and why that makes yellow his color. Then find out how three friendly Thai ladies recruited him as their golf cart driver on his very first visit to the Ancient City. Movie fans can also add a little detective work by tracking down the setting used for the monastery sequence in The Hangover Part II.

The Chiang Mai Adventure That Earned Its Place on the Challenge12 Oct 202600:56:41

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, Bangkok Bill shares his firsthand experience of a two-day trekking adventure outside Chiang Mai, and why it earned its place in the Thailand Backpackers Rite of Passage Challenge, connecting Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Koh Chang.

Come along for spectacular mountain views beside a golden chedi, the Bangkok-to-Chiang Mai overnight sleeper train, a night at his trekking guide’s family home, delicious local khao soi, and a baby elephant far too busy playing in the river to notice its visitors. Then there’s the bamboo raft ride, and the moment the guide nearly went overboard!

Bangkok Girl, New York Dreams: Kneet’s Journey to Break Free05 Oct 202601:09:14

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I sit down with Kneet, a Thai Sikh-Punjabi singer and songwriter who grew up right here in Bangkok. Raised in a strict family with very clear expectations for her future, Kneet eventually made a decision that would change everything. She went against her parents’ wishes and left Bangkok for New York City.

But the dream of New York wasn’t always glamorous. Kneet shares what it was like growing up in Bangkok, the difficult decision to leave home, the struggles she faced after arriving in New York, and how those experiences helped shape the woman, and artist, she is today.

We also talk about her music and her new song, “Bangkok to New York,” which brings together the two cities that have played such an important role in her story.

This is more than a conversation about becoming a singer. It’s about Thailand, family, cultural expectations, taking risks, finding your own voice, and having the courage to create a life that’s truly yours.

Thai Transportation Adventures: Six Ways to Make the Journey Part of the Trip27 Sep 202600:42:59

What’s the best way to travel around Thailand? Sometimes the ride itself makes all the difference.

This week, I’m preparing to board an overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai for the Backpacker’s Rite of Passage Challenge. (more on that in a different episode - stay tuned)

But It got me thinking about all the ways I’ve traveled through Thailand - and how different the experience can be from getting around back home in the United States.

In this episode, I share six transportation adventures: riding Thai trains, crossing Bangkok on a Grab motorbike, island hopping by longtail boat or ferry, navigating the BTS and MRT, hiring a van for a custom day out, and using buses to reach places beyond the rail lines.

I’ll also tell you why I avoid speedboats when I can, and what to check before heading to a Bangkok bus or train station.

Whether you’re planning your first Thailand trip or looking for a new way to explore, I hope this episode helps you enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Have a Thailand transportation question about getting around in the land of smiles? Just email me at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com. I’d love to answer it.

In this episode of the Thailand Adventure Secrets podcast, Bangkok Bill shares six of his favorite Thai dishes - plus one delicious bonus from northern Thailand. From Isaan-style jim jum cooked over charcoal and grab-and-go moo ping to crispy-noodle Lad Na and his all-time favorite Thai coconut soup, these are the dishes Bill returns to again and again.

  • How to cook and eat jim jum at your table
  • The difference between moo chin and moo sap
  • How to order pad krapao with only a little spice

Secret Beaches, Jungle Waterfalls & Naughty Monkeys: Koh Kood14 Sep 202600:42:49

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I’m finally sharing Koh Kood, an island that still feels like the Thailand I imagined 30 years ago. No giant hotel chains dominating the coastline, no crazy nightlife scene, and beaches where you can still wonder, “How does nobody know about this place?”

I’ll take you to beautiful Bang Bao Bay and Koh Kood Resort, a place that looks almost exactly like the tropical Thailand I dreamed about before I ever came here. Then we’ll head to The Survival by Seudam and Sunkey Beach, a beach I first discovered on Instagram and one that may genuinely be among the prettiest secret beaches I’ve found anywhere in Thailand.

We’ll also jump on a motorbike and explore Koh Kood’s jungle interior, including Klong Chao and Klong Yai Kee waterfalls, talk snorkeling and diving, and cover the things you should know before choosing where to stay on this surprisingly large island.

Koh Kood isn’t for everyone. If you want clubs, crowds and nonstop nightlife, this probably isn’t your island. But if you’re searching for beautiful quiet beaches, jungle waterfalls, diving, motorbike adventures and a part of Thailand that still feels wonderfully undiscovered, put Koh Kood on your list.

And then there are the dang monkeys!

Email me at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com. I love hearing from listeners, and your questions often become ideas for future episodes.

She Didn’t Wait: Why Women Are Choosing to Travel Solo with Paula Barnes07 Sep 202600:54:13

What if the only thing standing between you and the trip you’ve been dreaming about is waiting for someone else to go with you? ...Hey, it happened to me. Don't let it happen to you.

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I sit down with my friend Paula Barnes, host of the Truly Expat Travel Podcast, to talk about a subject I’m passionate about: traveling solo.

I say it all the time on this podcast: "just don’t wait to travel."

Don’t wait for the perfect time. Don’t wait until everything in your life lines up. And especially, don’t put off seeing the world because you don’t have someone ready to travel with you.

Paula brings her experience and perspective on women’s solo travel to our conversation. We talk about some of the fears and questions women have before taking that first trip alone, what they should really be thinking about, and the freedom that can come from finally deciding, “I’m going.”

The link to Paula's Podcast: https://podcast.trulyexpattravel.com/

We also talk about why solo travel doesn’t necessarily mean traveling alone. One of the great things about travel, especially here in Thailand, is how quickly strangers can become new friends.

If Thailand has been on your list but something is holding you back, I’d love to hear from you. Send me your questions at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com. Tell me what you’re worried about, what you want to experience, or what you need help figuring out. I’m happy to point you in the right direction.

And if you want a little inspiration before you go, check out my book, Getting Lost in the Magic of Thailand: Island Hopping Down the Siam Spice Route. It’s about discovering Thailand through experiences, adventure, unexpected moments, and the people you meet along the way.

The $1,000 Thailand Backpacker's Challenge - 7 days, under $1000. Can I do it?31 Aug 202600:27:35

Over the last few years, I've heard from several parents who backpacked through Thailand in their twenties, usually during university or just after graduation. Now their kids are almost grown, and they want them to experience the same kind of adventure.

More than one of those parents called their original Thailand trip a "rite of passage."

That phrase stuck with me... So I'm putting it to the test.

In this episode, I introduce Thailand's Backpacker Rite of Passage Challenge: seven full days of traveling through Thailand with a backpack while trying to keep the entire in-country cost under $1,000.

And we're not spending seven days just sitting around a hostel trying not to spend money.

The plan includes Bangkok, Chinatown, an overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai, a two-day mountain trek, a jungle camp beside a waterfall, elephants, bamboo rafting, Chiang Mai's Old City, Koh Chang, snorkeling, motorbikes, beaches and more.

I've researched it. I've priced it.

Now I'm going to actually do it (in early October 2026) and track every baht I spend.

I also share why backpacking Thailand isn't necessarily just for twenty-somethings. Some of the most interesting people I've met in Thailand's hostels have been early retirees and digital nomads who figured out how to make their dollars and euros go dramatically farther while traveling around Southeast Asia.

Maybe backpacking Thailand really is a rite of passage... And, maybe, there's no age limit.

I've created a free two-page Thailand Backpacker Rite of Passage Challenge itinerary with exactly what you need to attempt it yourself. Look for it in Early October after I have actually booked all the adventure.

You'll get the transportation plan, where to stay, the overnight train to book, the Chiang Mai mountain trek, the Koh Chang portion of the adventure and the important booking information.

Get it free here in early October 2026:

www.thailandadventurenetwork.com/challenge

Download it, save it to your phone and follow along as I personally put the challenge to the test. I will do a special episode for each day and talk about what I did and spent.

Can I really do all seven days for under $1,000?

We're going to find out.

Designing the Expedition, Step 2: Putting the Dots on the Map24 Aug 202600:31:35

In Episode 2 of our behind-the-scenes series, Building the Magic of Thailand: Going Deeper Expedition, the dream starts meeting reality.

Last time, we started with the experiences. This time, I'm putting those experiences on the map and trying to figure out how we're actually going to connect them all in just 14 days.

The current plan takes us from Bangkok to the jungles of Khao Sok, across to Koh Samui, north to Chiang Mai and the mountains around Doi Inthanon and Chiang Rai, then all the way across the country to Koh Chang and Koh Kood before finishing back in Bangkok.

Along the way, I'm chasing some pretty incredible experiences:

  • Bamboo rafting through the jungle
  • Exploring Cheow Lan Lake by longtail boat
  • An ethical elephant encounter
  • Searching for dusky leaf monkeys in Ang Thong National Marine Park
  • Exploring Koh Samui by ATV
  • Whitewater rafting through the jungle
  • Climbing the Sticky Waterfall
  • Hiking above the clouds at sunrise
  • Diving the HTMS Chang shipwreck
  • Searching for a whale shark
  • Sailing my Hobie Cat through the islands
  • Snorkeling hidden beaches
  • Swimming in bioluminescent plankton
  • And one still-undiscovered experience on Koh Kood

But there's a problem.

I love the experiences. I'm not sure I love the logistics.

I don't want this expedition to become a 14-day race through airports, ferry terminals and highways just so we can check everything off the list.

That's why my next step is sitting down with the logistics experts at Asian Trails and asking them a simple question:

Can we actually pull this off?

And perhaps more importantly, should we?

In this episode, I'll take you through the itinerary as it stands today, explain why each destination made the map, and share some of the difficult decisions we may have to make before the final expedition takes shape.

This is what designing an expedition really looks like.

First you dream about the experiences... Then you put the dots on the map.

And then you have to figure out how to connect them.

Interested in Joining the Expedition?

The Magic of Thailand: Going Deeper Expedition is still being built, and that's why I'm sharing the process with you.

If you're listening to this thinking, “I want to do this,” I'd love to hear from you.

Or maybe you're interested but have questions about the expedition, the experiences, the physical activities, traveling solo, or what it would be like to become part of the expedition team.

Email me directly at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com.

Just put “Going Deeper Expedition” in the subject line and tell me what's on your mind.

I'm happy to answer your questions, and if you're seriously interested in joining us, let me know that too.

I’m Designing the Adventure of a Lifetime, Come Along for the Ride17 Aug 202600:39:20

What if we've been planning vacations backwards?

Most people start by choosing a destination. Then they book a hotel. Then they search for things to do nearby.

For my next expedition, I'm doing exactly the opposite.

In this first episode of a special Thailand Adventure Secrets series, I'm taking you behind the scenes as I design the new Deeper Into Thailand Expedition from a completely blank sheet of paper.

And I'm starting with just one question:

Is the experience you will have today on the expedition - mind-blowing?

If I'm asking someone to fly halfway around the world and give me two weeks of their life, every day needs to contain at least one moment where they stop, look around and think:

"Hey Bill, I cannot believe I'm doing this."

So, before I choose a single destination, hotel or route, I'm brainstorming the experiences.

I gave myself about 120 seconds and came up with 27 possibilities.

From swimming with whalesharks and elephants to hiking about the clouds.

Eventually, only 14 experiences will survive.

In this episode, I explain the five-step process I'm going to use to build the entire expedition:

  1. Choose 14 mind-blowing experiences.
  2. Find the destinations where we can have the best and most authentic versions of those experiences.
  3. Choose unique transportation that can become part of the adventure itself.
  4. Find memorable and unusual accommodations that actually add to the story.
  5. Design 13 special team dinner experiences that help turn a group of travelers into an expedition team.

I also take a deeper look at three experiences already near the top of my list: searching for and swimming with a whale shark, spending meaningful time talking with a Buddhist monk, and staying with a Thai family.

The goal isn't to see more of Thailand... It's to experience Thailand more deeply.

No filler days. No itinerary built around tourist zones simply because they're famous. We're designing the dream first and figuring out the logistics second.

Now I want your help, please.

If you could come to Thailand and have one absolutely unforgettable, bucket-list experience, what would it be?

Maybe you've already done something here that changed the way you think about Thailand.

Maybe there's something you've always dreamed about doing.

Maybe you know about an incredible experience in some little corner of Thailand that almost nobody talks about.

Email me... please :)

Tell me the experience and why you think it should be on the Deeper Into Thailand Expedition.

Your idea might become one of the final 14.

My email: support@thailandadventurenetwork.com

We're building this expedition together, one mind-blowing experience at a time.

She’s Been to 70 Countries. Here’s What She Knows About Great Travel: Elevate Your Escapes Part 110 Aug 202600:42:02

There’s a big difference between booking a vacation and designing an unforgettable travel experience.

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I sit down with Eleanor, founder of Elevate Your Escapes, a full-service travel company and blog focused on creating highly personalized, elevated travel experiences.

Eleanor has traveled to more than 70 countries, and long before she became a professional travel advisor, she was already “the traveler” everyone turned to for recommendations, itineraries, hotels, and those special experiences you don’t always find on your own.

In 2023, she turned that passion into Elevate Your Escapes. Today, she designs travel experiences for hundreds of travelers each year, including helping travelers discover the right kind of Thailand experience.

In Part 1 of our conversation, Eleanor and I talk about what separates a good vacation from a truly memorable one, what a decade of international travel has taught her, and why simply booking the right hotel or following an AI-generated itinerary doesn’t necessarily create a great trip.

We also get into the value of having someone who actually knows a destination help you make the right decisions before you arrive.

... and to also help you with that:

In this episode, I sit down with my friend Victor Chen - actor, stunt performer, fight choreographer, Muay Thai instructor, and what I like to call the "Martial Arts Yoda." Victor has spent years returning to Thailand to train, learn from Thai masters, and immerse himself in the country's rich martial arts culture.

We also talk about his latest independent action film, the philosophy that guides both his teaching and his life, and why Thailand continues to be a place that calls him back again and again.

BB Divers: The Wreck, Whale Sharks & the Stories of Koh Chang21 Jul 202600:50:00

Koh Chang is home to one of Thailand's most spectacular dive sites - the HTMS Chang, the largest intentionally sunk shipwreck in the country. It's also one of the few places where divers occasionally have the unforgettable experience of swimming alongside a whale shark.

In this episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets, I sit down with Kristel from BB Divers to hear the stories behind Koh Chang's incredible underwater world. We talk about what it's like to descend onto a 100-meter naval ship resting upright on the seabed, how the wreck has transformed into a thriving artificial reef, and what really happens when a whale shark suddenly appears during a dive.

Whether you're a certified diver, thinking about earning your Open Water certification, or simply fascinated by marine life and adventure travel, this conversation offers a unique look beneath the surface of one of Thailand's most underrated destinations.

Big Buddha, Shipwrecks & Turquoise Water: A Day in Chalong Bay - The Cruising Guide Expedition Series13 Jul 202600:09:36

This week, we're dropping anchor off the quiet island of Koh Lon in Chalong Bay, just south of Phuket, as the Cruising Guide Expedition continues aboard the Southern Star.

Along the way, we take in views of the Big Buddha, discover a forgotten shipwreck, peek over toward Koh He's famous snorkeling reefs, and share what life is really like aboard a cruising sailboat when you're living on Fruit Loops and instant ramen instead of five-star resort buffets.

If you've ever wondered what it's like to sail the Andaman Sea one anchorage at a time, this episode gives you a front-row seat.

This stop takes us to Koh Phanak, an uninhabited island of towering limestone cliffs, hidden sea caves, and an anchorage that feels like a secret world just a few hours from Phuket. Over the next two weeks, you'll come aboard with me as I share the journey exactly as we're experiencing it, one destination at a time. If you've ever dreamed of exploring Thailand by yacht instead of following the crowds, I'd love for you to join me for the adventure.

If you would like the pictures from the expedition to build your own itinerary, just email me at support@thailandadventurenetwork.com. If you are already a podcast insider, fear not. I'll send the emails as soon as I get back to Bangkok.

Koh Yang: Thailand's Secret Cove Near James Bond Island - Cruising Guide Expedition Series07 Jul 202600:12:53

In this episode of the Cruising Guide Expedition Series, we leave the hidden hong at Koh Phanak and make our way toward one of Thailand's most famous landmarks—James Bond Island. But as often happens on this expedition, the biggest surprise isn't the place everyone comes to see. It's the tiny, uninhabited island nearby that almost everyone sails right past.

Join me as I paddle a stand-up paddleboard to James Bond Island, collect another stamp in my Thailand National Parks Passport, and discover a secluded jungle cove on Koh Yang that turns into one of my favorite overnight anchorages of the entire voyage.

This episode is part of the Cruising Guide Expedition Series, where I'm documenting our research voyage through Phang Nga Bay and the Andaman Coast as we update the Island Spirit cruising guide for future sailors and adventure travelers.

If you'd like to see the photos from James Bond Island, Koh Yang, and the hidden anchorages featured in this episode, send me an email at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com with the subject line "Insider," and I'll send them to you when I get back with a reliable internet connection.

If you're dreaming of experiencing this side of Thailand by yacht, I'd also be happy to help you plan your own adventure. - simply send an email to the same address and I will get right back to you.

Phetchabun; Hidden Thailand that Will Surprise You29 Jun 202600:26:06

If you think you've seen everything Thailand has to offer, think again.

In this episode, I take you to one of the country's most overlooked mountain destinations: Phetchabun Province and the stunning Khao Kho region. This wasn't a destination I found in a guidebook. It all started with an Instagram reel my wife, Pui, showed me. The scenery looked so unbelievable that I was convinced it had been edited.

So we got in the car and went to find out for ourselves.

If you're looking for a side of Thailand that most international visitors never experience, or even have heard of, this episode is for you.

Planning your own Thailand adventure?

I'd be happy to help you work Phetchabun and Khao Kho into your itinerary. Just send me an email at support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com with "Itinerary" in the subject line, and I'll point you toward some of my favorite hidden gems in the area.

If you're enjoying Thailand Adventure Secrets, I'd really appreciate it if you'd follow the show and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. It helps more travelers discover a side of Thailand that's far beyond the usual tourist trail.

Why I Scrapped My Retirement Plan After Three Days in Thailand - My Thai Origin Story22 Jun 202600:16:33

What if a single sunset could change the entire direction of your life?

In this episode, I share the story I get asked about more than any other:

"Bill, how did you end up living in Thailand?"

The answer starts far away from Bangkok. It starts with a young version of me growing up in Virginia, a lifelong dream of retiring in the Florida Keys, and a discounted airline ticket that almost never happened.

For more than twenty years, I had my future mapped out. A boat. The water. A charter business. Life in Key West.

Then a friend named Nan convinced me to take a chance on Thailand.

Three days into the journey, sitting on a beach in Koh Samui watching the sun disappear into the Gulf of Thailand, everything changed.

In this episode, I share the moment that caused me to completely rewrite my vision of the future and ultimately led to:

...moving to Thailand, meeting my wife, launching Thailand Adventure Network, writing books about Thailand, starting the Thailand Adventure Secrets podcast, and creating expeditions that help others discover the magic of this country.

This isn't just a story about travel. It's a story about how one decision can create an entirely new path in life.

If you'd like information about our upcoming Magic of Thailand Expedition, send me an email with the word "Expedition" in the subject line.

Email: support@thailandadventurenetwork.com

I'll send you the itinerary and invite you to a free webinar where I'll walk you through the entire experience, answer your questions, and show you how you can create your own unforgettable Thailand story.

Is Thailand the Right Destination for Children? - An Interview with Suzy May08 Jun 202601:01:40

For years, I've had a pretty simple view of traveling with young children in Thailand. Yes, Thailand is amazing, but between the heat, long travel days, boats, ferries, crowded markets, and logistics, I wasn't convinced it was the ideal destination for families with young kids.

Then, I met fellow podcaster Suzy May. (The Wander Worldschool Podcast)

In this episode, we explore a concept called worldschooling, an approach to education that takes learning far beyond the classroom. Instead of reading about history, culture, geography, and language in textbooks, children experience them firsthand through travel.

Thailand Homestays; Finding the Magic25 May 202600:34:24

In this episode of the Thailand Adventure Secrets podcast, your host - Bangkok Bill, takes you beyond the resorts, beyond the polished Instagram hotspots, and into a side of Thailand most travelers never experience - authentic Thai homestays.

This episode begins with a personal story from the mountains of Phetchabun, where a simple bungalow above the clouds became one of the most memorable travel experiences in Thailand. Cool mountain air, moo-kra-tah on a deck overlooking the mist, motorbike travelers heading into the hills, and the realization that the “real” Thailand often exists just beyond the tourism bubble. I want to take you there.

This episode is for travelers who no longer want to simply “visit and observe” Thailand…

…but want to connect more deeply with the people, culture, food, traditions, and daily life that make Thailand truly magical.

The Magic of Thailand Expedition: Lantern Festivals, Island Hopping & the Soul of Thailand18 May 202601:14:55

Welcome to a very special episode of Thailand Adventure Secrets.

In this episode, I pull back the curtain on the brand-new "Magic of Thailand Expedition" - a carefully designed 13-day journey through some of the most unforgettable experiences Thailand has to offer.

*(break up the episode into two 30 minute segments if it makes listening easier)

This is not a rushed tour built around checking destination boxes, but something deeper and more memorable. - an expedition.

This expedition was intentionally created around transformation, adventure, culture, connection, and bucket-list moments that stay with you for the rest of your life and define your own hero's journey.

In this episode, I walk you day-by-day through the expedition itinerary and explain why each experience was chosen - from Bangkok’s Grand Palace and Chinatown street food scene to the magical Yee Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai, jungle adventures in Northern Thailand, and island hopping by yacht through the Andaman Sea.

I also discuss why I stopped using the word “tour” and replaced it with the word “expedition.” - which indeed makes this designed to be something different.

...It turns out that an expedition is different from a tour - It's designed with purpose, challenge and discovery.

This expedition is intentionally limited to only 8 guests... with a waiting list of an additional eight guests.

If you would like pricing, details, dates, or access to the upcoming on-demand webinar, simply email me at:

support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com

Put the word “Expedition” in the subject line, so I can reserve a slot for you on the expedition.

If Thailand has been calling your name for years… this might be the journey that finally turns the dream into reality.

Thank you for listening to Thailand Adventure Secrets. I truly appreciate this amazing community.

Until then… I'm your host Bill Mullen

Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui? How to Choose the Right Island for Your Trip04 May 202600:36:07

Trying to decide between Phuket, Krabi, and Koh Samui? ... You’re not alone.

This is the number one question I get on my planning Zoom calls, and the truth is, most people are asking the wrong question.

Because choosing the right island in Thailand isn’t just about what looks good online…

It’s about when you’re going, how you travel, and what kind of experience you actually want to have.

In this episode, I break it down into a simple framework so you can confidently choose the right destination, and avoid the mistakes that ruin a lot of trips.

Key Destinations Covered
  • Phuket – Best for ease, variety, beach clubs, and first-time visitors
  • Krabi – Dramatic scenery, adventure, and iconic landscapes like Railay
  • Koh Samui – Relaxed, refined, and perfect for slower-paced trips
  • Koh Tao – One of the best places in the world to learn scuba diving
  • Similan Islands – World-class diving (seasonal access)

Most travelers pick one island, maybe two. But the smartest travelers don’t choose just one.

They move through the islands, and experience Thailand the way it was meant to be seen.

In this episode, I introduce the idea of exploring Thailand by catamaran; where your hotel moves with you, and the best beaches, dive sites, and anchorages are all within reach.

Want to Experience The Magic for Yourself?

This November, I’m hosting a small-group Thailand Adventure Expedition.

We’ll combine island hopping down the Andaman Coast with one of the most unforgettable cultural events in the world: The Yi Peng Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai.

If that sounds like something you’ve been looking for, simply Email us at ... support@ThailandAdventureNetwork.com ...Subject: "Expedition"

I’ll send you the details and see if it’s the right fit for your next adventure.

If you know someone planning a trip to Thailand and this episode might help, please share it.

And make sure you’re subscribed to Thailand Adventure Secrets so you don’t miss what’s coming next.

Koh Chang - Six Things to Experience in Paradise23 Feb 202600:18:03

Koh Chang is one of Thailand’s most underrated islands - a mountainous, jungle-covered island in the eastern Gulf of Thailand that you can actually reach from Bangkok by car and ferry. Unlike more developed or crowded islands, Koh Chang still feels spacious, green, and deeply connected to nature and traditional coastal life.

In this episode, I share six of the very best experiences on Koh Chang — from snorkeling in a protected marine park to sunset viewpoints, rainforest waterfalls, fishing-pier villages, reggae cliff bars, and authentic Thai seafood restaurants over the sea.

If you’re looking for a Thailand island that still feels adventurous and a little bit off-the-radar, Koh Chang may be exactly what you’re searching for.

What you’ll discover in this episode:

  1. Snorkeling and island-hopping in Koh Rang National Marine Park
  2. Sunset views from the famous Kai Bae Viewpoint
  3. Exploring Bang Bao fishing pier village
  4. Swimming at Klong Plu Waterfall in the rainforest interior
  5. Sunset drinks at the cliffside reggae bar Rasta View
  6. Authentic Thai seafood dining in Bang Bao village

Authentic Thai restaurants mentioned:

  1. Ruan Thai Seafood — Bang Bao Pier, southwest Koh Chang
  2. Bang Bao Seafood — Bang Bao Pier, southwest Koh Chang
  3. Barracuda Restaurant & Bar — Kai Bae village, west coast Koh Chang
  4. The Whitening — beachfront near White Sand Beach, west coast Koh Chang

If you’d like help planning your own Koh Chang itinerary — including where to stay, how to get there, snorkeling trips, and authentic local experiences — email me at... support@thailandadventurenetwork.com and put Koh Chang in the subject line.
