When it comes to food allergies, there is no wiggle room. It is imperative that you do everything within your power to keep your students safe while on tour. In this episode of Teacher Show Me the World, I interview Rachel Gurk from the award winning food blog RachelCooks.com. Rachel discusses the best way a Group Leader can help keep their students with food allergies safe while traveling abroad. She speaks from her own experiences due to the fact her own children have severe food allergies.

Rachel and her recipes have been featured on the Cooking Channel, the Today Show, Huffington Post, Bon Appetite, Better Homes and Garden, Country Living and more.

Included with this podcast are two essential resources that EVERY Group Leader should provide to students before embarking on a tour. The first resource is Food Allergy Travel Cards, available in 14 languages to accommodate various food allergies. Simply print these cards on sturdy card stock, laminate them, and ensure your students carry them to use when dining out or shopping during the trip.

In addition, download this free resource, and share it with your travelers before Departure Day. This resource covers the Top 5 Food Allergy Apps every traveler should download before the trip.

Each App has a detailed explanation and hyperlinked for easy downloadable access.

Discovering Hidden Gems While on Tour16 Apr 2024

Quite often, while on tour, you will have a window of time during the middle of the day that leaves the chance to break from your schedule and do something unexpected and spontaneous. When these opportunities knock, I like to to share hidden historical gems or local favorites with my travelers to give them an off-tour experience.

Because I love to travel so much, people are always asking me, “What is your favorite country?” and each time I am asked, I continue to have the same reply……Italy. Italy never ceases to amazing me and continues to captivate me each time I visit.

There is a treasure in Florence, Italy that many tourists have no idea it exists; it hides in plain view. In this episode, I will share the story of one of Florence’s best kept secrets, that if given the chance, you will want to make sure you and your travelers take advantage of your free-time in Florence and pay it a visit.

From Belize: 8 Questions Every Group Leader Has Before Their First Trip.16 Mar 202400:56:25

I had the amazing opportunity to visit and speak at a teacher conference in Belize last week. I met with 40+ like-minded educators from all over the US who are showing their students the world!

While I was there, I was inspired to record a podcast that would be a celebration of visiting my 50th country, but also a meaningful podcast that will answer questions that new Group Leaders may have.

I spoke to over 40+ new GL’s and offered my advice and best practices in regards to educational travel. The questions that they asked were so good, I decided to take a whole episode answering their various questions, so YOU TOO can hear what I shared.

Whether you are a NEW Group Leader or an experienced GL who would like to gain a fresh perspective, I encourage you to listen to the whole episode.

Fun fact….while I was recording this episode, I was outside recording at 5:30 AM. If you have never heard the sounds of the jungle wake up, then you are in for a treat! While I was recoding, I had an audience of howler monkeys and a variety of tropical birds “vocalizing their opinions” as I recorded. If I had not known that I was listening to Howler Monkeys, I would have been running as fast as I could to get away from the pre-historic dinosaur sounds! LOL!

In this podcast, I also highlight some of my travel MUST HAVES!

For example, a NON-NEGOTIABLE item for me is the amazing LIFE STRAW WATER BOTTLE (CLICK HERE FOR LINK) This water bottle is a life saver! I would NEVER travel without it! In addition, I ALWAYS let my travelers know about it and HIGHLY recommend it to them.

My sister, who is leading a trip this summer, called me and told me one of her students was caught doing some pretty bad things, and she wondered what she should do. This episode explains why it is so critical to have clear expectations set up before and during your students’ trip abroad. In addition, hear real life stories of students breaking their contract and the consequences that followed.

This episode answers the questions:

When do you have your students and parents sign the contract?

What should a behavioral contract include?

How do you write a behavioral contract?(Click here to access a free and fully editable behavioral student contract.)

How to utilize a student behavioral contract when your trips are school sponsored or non-school sponspored

Episode 2: Fundraising Ideas for Students to Travel Abroad15 Jan 2024

Fundraising for your student trips abroad does not need to be scary. In fact, it can become a fun way to bring your community together. In today's episode, I interview fundraising guru, Sara Johnson, where she shares all of her tricks of the trade on how to create and run a fundraising event that will earn your group an easy $3,000-$5,000 in one-easy-step.

Sara Johnson has been leading trips with her students for over a decade. What amazes me about her, she is able to run multiple fundraising events each year at her school to help fund her students’ trips abroad.

With the goal of “low-risk and high-demand”, Sara is able to masterfully craft fundraising events that bring about minimal stress with maximum rewards. On average, her strategically run fundraisers bring about $3k-$5k per event.

By listening to today’s episode you will become inspired to learn how to help your students finance their trips, so you can be the teacher who shows your students the world.

How to Recruit Students for Your Next Adventure!23 Oct 2024

When it's time to recruit students for my next adventure, I start right from the first day of school.

In this episode, I guide Group Leaders through my recruitment process for trips. From the initial day of school to the first recruitment meeting, you'll discover the different stages involved in promoting my tours, selecting which students can participate, and ultimately persuading parents to enroll their children.

During this episode, I discuss the behavioral contract that each student signs as soon as they register for the trip. This contract serves as a tool to ensure accountability throughout the lead-up to departure and during the trip itself.

If you're in search of innovative ways to market your trips, be sure to check out the episode where I interview marketing expert Greg Stielstra on effective strategies for promoting your adventures.

In addition, if you are looking for marketing techniques and strategic methods to help market your trips, here is the Ultimate Marketing Toolkit that will make your life a lot easier. Proven marketing techniques that will help you build your world travel program.
