069. From Living in Florence to a Life of Global Travel with Susie Stonefield16 Mar 202600:55:23

Drop us a line or voice note!

In this episode Tara sits down with Susie Stonefield, a Grief and Creativity Coach and artist based in Northern California, to share a remarkable travel story about how living abroad shaped her life.

Susie recounts moving to Florence, Italy in 1985 with her mother and 15-year-old brother for a year abroad—arriving with no housing arranged and no real plan. During the quiet, mosquito-filled days of August in Florence, the family escaped on a spontaneous cruise to Greece, where Susie unexpectedly fell in love with an Italian man (and shares a JUICY story you won't want to miss!).

Back in Florence, they eventually found a home near Porta Romana, built a sense of community through neighborhood shops, and immersed themselves in daily Italian life. Her brother attended the International School of Florence, an experience that sparked a lifelong global path. Eventually, leading him to live abroad and speak eight languages.

Susie reflects on why she ultimately didn’t stay in Italy, how she later returned to Florence with her husband and children, and why she now prioritizes intentional travel experiences with her adult kids. She shares insights on slow travel, living like a local, and building meaningful connections while traveling.

059. The Truth About Wine & Health (From a Sommelier)22 Dec 202500:58:53

Drop us a line or voice note!

Is wine actually healthier than beer, seltzers, or cocktails, or is that just good marketing?

In this episode of Taste Toast Travel, we're diving into one of the most debated questions in food and drink culture: can wine fit into a healthy lifestyle?

With John’s background as a Certified Sommelier and both of our experience working in the wine industry, we unpack the science, myths, and nuance behind wine’s so-called “health halo.”

We start by addressing the most important truth upfront: no alcohol is inherently healthy, and moderation (or choosing not to drink at all) is always key. From there, we explore why wine has long been associated with health benefits, where those ideas come from, and how they stack up against what current research actually shows.

But we also can't avoid the broader context of today’s drinking culture, including the rise of sober-curious lifestyles, shifting generational habits, and the economic and cultural factors influencing how (and why) people drink now.

Along the way, we compare wine to beer, hard seltzers, and cocktails, breaking down calories, sugar, additives, and alcohol content—and explaining why some “healthier” options may not be what they seem.

016. Is Wine a Dying Breed? A Realistic Picture of the Alcohol Industry17 Feb 202501:05:13

Drop us a line or voice note!

We’re digging into a huge question being posed right now: what’s the future of the wine and alcohol industry? Is it truly a dying breed?

As wine industry insiders, we’re exploring the current state of the wine world and spilling ALL the tea (or wine, we should say) in the process.

The world is facing the biggest lack of wine consumption we’ve ever seen. From younger generations (particularly Gen Z) exploring alcohol-free lifestyles and wine alternatives to global financial woes, to marketing challenges that have made wine appear snooty and unapproachable. This industry is seeing some truly unprecedented things—and let's be real, it’s hurting.

This chat extends to climate change impacts, government regulations, and marketing strategies aimed at reviving interest in wine. But there’s a huge social and historical component to wine, too, that needs to be addressed and acknowledged.

We’re divulging some huge misconceptions to help inspire people to give wine a second chance. Because believe it or not, it deserves it!
