How to tap when you can't put your finger on the exact emotions you are feeling (Pod #676)
Épisode 676
jeudi 20 novembre 2025 • Durée 12:01
One of the biggest obstacles to tapping is knowing where to start. This is especially true when we know we are feeling something, but we can't quite put our finger on what that is.
We might feel heavy or unsettled, or there is just something there at the edge of our consciousness.
When this happens it can be hard to tap. We might start tapping and then peter out because it is hard to focus on something vague.
This week in the podcast I am sharing a straightforward tool that I use when I am not sure how I am feeling. It takes advantage of the Feelings and Needs Inventory from the Center for Nonviolent Communications.
Although this tool is simple, don't underestimate its power.

The scariest round of tapping ever (Pod #675)
Épisode 675
vendredi 3 octobre 2025 • Durée 14:37
One of the hardest phrases to say outloud is "I love and accept myself".
The reason this phrase is so hard to say outloud is because we know ourselves. We know our failings. We know our mistakes. We know where we have fallen short.
To say "I love and accept myself" feels like I am also accepting all of those failing and imperfections.
Recently I was talking to my friend Brad Yates and we were talking about why self acceptance is so hard. He said something along the lines of "We believe if we just fixed ourselves then we can accept ourselves. It is the other way around, healing begins with self acceptance."
Recently I have been trying a new self acceptance tapping practice.
It is the single scariest tapping practice I have ever done. The idea came from a podcast interview with the rapper and musician MAVI done by Jesse Thorn on the podcast Bullseye.
He talked about a practice had started doing where he was saying nice things about himself while doing something else. This "something else" takes self acceptance to a whole new level.
For the last few months I have been doing this practice a few times a week while adding tapping.
It is the single scariest tapping practice I have ever done. The first time I tried it I could barely do it for 30 seconds.
This week in the podcast I share:
- What the practice is
- How it has transformed the way I see myself (in great ways)
- How you can do something similar without having to go to the extreme that I have
Even if you don't try this, you are going to want to listen to this as it will help you to transform your relationship with yourself.

What I wish I had known sooner (Pod #666)
Épisode 666
vendredi 18 juillet 2025 • Durée 19:45
One of my favorite questions when interviewing someone about their tapping journey is, "If you could share one piece of advice with your younger self, what would that advice be?"
For some reason I was reflecting on that question recently, not for someone I was interviewing, but for myself.
The piece of advice that I would give to Gene-the-beginner-tapper would be to go more slowly.
This week in the podcast, I share four different ways that I now move more slowly when I am tapping on my own or with clients. All four of them have transformed the way I tap for the better.
Not only do I think these ideas would be useful for the younger version of myself, but I know that they will make your tapping more effective as well!

Stages of Awareness – Healing Fundamentals (Part 11) (Pod #574)
Épisode 574
mercredi 30 août 2023 • Durée 18:19
When we are in physical or emotional pain and distress, we want to feel better right now.
That is a natural human desire, but even though we want healing right away, it doesn't mean healing is going to happen right away.
As disappointing as that is, there is good news. Even though healing often takes time, it is possible to identify the stages of the emotional and subconscious process we go through when healing, and understanding that process can speed our progress.
Listen to this week's podcast for the next part in the Healing Fundamentals series in which we explore what I call the Six Stages of Awareness.

You are taking too much responsibility – Healing Fundamentals (Part 10) (Pod #573)
Épisode 573
jeudi 24 août 2023 • Durée 14:11
One of my favorite characteristics of my clients is their willingness to take responsibility for what is going on in their lives. When we take responsibility, we put ourselves into a position to create lasting change.
At the same time, it is possible for us to take too much responsibility. Taking responsibility for the aspects of our lives that we do not control presents a number of problems. We end up being too hard on ourselves when things go badly, and we spend time and energy trying to change what we cannot.
In this week's podcast we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series by looking at where we take too much responsibility, how to recalibrate our sense of responsibility so we can focus on the areas where we can effect real change.

Your loved ones want you to change (as long as they don't have to) – Healing Fundamentals (Part 9) (Pod #572)
Épisode 572
mercredi 16 août 2023 • Durée 20:13
In this week's podcast we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series by looking at the ways the people in our lives put up resistance when we heal and change.
AND I don't mean the people who don't like us or those who are jealous of what we have.
In this case I am talking about how our loved ones, sometimes the people who are our biggest fans, can resist and even get in the way of our healing, transformation, and success.
This is because the people in our lives want us to change, just as long as they don't also have to change.
In this week's podcast I break down why this happens, how it can hold us back from change and personal transformation, and what we can do to address the issue.

When the new normal becomes the normal – Healing Fundamentals (Part 8) (Pod #571)
Épisode 571
mercredi 9 août 2023 • Durée 17:31
In this week's podcast we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series by looking at the subconscious mind in a completely different way.
When we recognize the ways in which the subconscious mind holds us back from taking positive action, it is almost always in terms of the resistance and fear that come up.
While this is true, it is not the only way the subconscious can get in our way. One of the unexpected obstacles to our healing and transformation has to do with the way in which the subconscious learns new information and how it evolves over time.
In learning something new, the subconscious mind rapidly turns the new normal into the normal, and then almost completely forgets what was the old normal.
This week in the podcast we explore why the new normal becoming the normal can be a block to us creating change and transformation.

You are a notoriously bad eyewitness to your own experience – Healing Fundamentals (Part 7) (Pod #570)
Épisode 570
mercredi 2 août 2023 • Durée 16:08
This week we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals by looking at why our subconscious mind and memory is faulty.
The reality is that nobody has a perfect memory. Even those with a photographic memory cannot remember everything.
In small ways, this can be a minor irritant as we misremember small details in our daily lives. These memory missteps can cause miscommunication and inconvenience.
In big ways, our faulty memory can cause real issues as we navigate our day. If I misremember something as my fault, I may stop trusting myself. If I misremember myself as not doing something well enough, I might see myself as a failure.
Our understanding of the world and of ourselves is based on our memories, so it is important that the stories we tell about ourselves and the world are as accurate as possible.
This week in the podcast we look at why the human memory is faulty and (most importantly) what we can do about it to create deeper healing and more transformation in our lives.

If it weren't for resistance, change would already have happened – Healing Fundamentals (Part 6) (Pod #569)
Épisode 569
mercredi 26 juillet 2023 • Durée 18:13
This week we are continuing the Healing Fundamentals series with a look at resistance.
Just because we know what to do, how to do it, and why it is important to take an action, does not mean we will actually take that action.
In order for us to take consistent action, we need to clear as much resistance as possible.
In this week's podcast we take a deep dive into why resistance shows up and prevents us from taking action, AND how to clear that resistance so that we can keep taking positive action over time to create lives we love.
