(Heated) Reactions Following Bills Loss In Houston07 Oct 202401:13:14
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for plenty of (often heated) reaction on the heels of the Buffalo Bills losing to the Houston Texans on a last second 59-yard field goal, an ending marred by bad coaching. The Bills were on the road in a tough environment facing a very good Houston team. They fell behind early and appeared on the verge of being run out of the Stadium at halftime. Buffalo showed resiliency, especially on defense and battled back to tie the game in the final minutes. They fell apart in the end, largely because of some absurdly coaching decisions by Sean McDermott, first with time outs and then on play calls in the final minute. The guys have plenty to say about that and a coaching staff that looked the part the first three weeks but have definitely been exposed as flawed over the last two. They also have plenty to say about Josh Allen, who had one of if not his worst games as pro, certainly the worst he's looked throwing the football in at least a few years. He was bad and wasn't helped but by a wide receiver group that gave him no help and often looked pathetic in doing so. It certainly feels if the Bills are serious about trying to win the AFC this year and get to the Super Bowl, they need to trade for a quality wide receiver because that player is not currently on this roster. The guys discuss a defense that had some issues early but stepped up and gave the Bills a chance to win this game, a pretty valiant effort with Ed Oliver, Taron Johnson and Taylor Rapp. They go over some bright spots, look ahead to what now kinda feels like a must-win game in New Jersey next week, hit on the Sabres crappy start to their season and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast  YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Bills vs Texans Preview & Bold Predictions04 Oct 202400:44:10
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has a full preview of the Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans showdown, including keys to the game for Buffalo alongside a handful of bold predictions for Sunday. After being handled thoroughly in Baltimore this past week, Sunday is a big bounce back opportunity in Houston against a very talented Texans team that's 3-1 so far this season. Of course, this game is attracting a lot of national attention and not just because both teams are good. Former Bills star Stefon Diggs is with Houston and playing well. Patrick talks about him and takes exception to a large national narrative right now that this is a "revenge game" for Diggs and Houston. Patrick spends time talking Bills with some big picture perspective, brushing off the stink from the performance in Baltimore to point out several things going right for the team over the first month of the season as well as the latest injury news and who could be in or out for Buffalo on Sunday. From there's it's about keys to the game and Patrick highlights being more committed to using James Cook in the running game than they did last week and conversely taking advantage of a suspect Houston interior offensive lineman with a pair of Bills defenders down the middle who've largely underachieved so far this season. The episode is wrapped with a handful of bold predictions, including forecasting a long touchdown for a guy who's been a complete non-factor through four games and the opportunity for AJ Epenesa to leave a big footprint on that game. That plus a final score prediction and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast  YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. What Buffalo Bills Sample Sizes Are Most Sustainable?18 Sep 202400:58:24
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by SB Nation's Matt Warren to discuss several Buffalo Bills and NFL topics, including what Buffalo sample size metrics so far this season feel the most sustainable. The Bills have begun the season with wins over Arizona and divisional rival Miami and have looked good doing it. However, how much of their early sample size is sustainable? Patrick gives Matt several scenarios and asks him to score them on a sustainability level from 1-10, including Von Miller on pace for double digit sacks, Josh Allen having fewer than 10 interceptions, James Cook having over 1,250 yards rushing and no pass catcher finishing the season with 75 catches or 850 receiving yards. It's a fun exercise with a few surprising answers. Matt also has thoughts on who he's most and least impressed with around the NFL through the first two weeks as well as what's most surprised by. That and much more. Why The Bills Defense Should Be Even Better In 202414 May 202401:02:34
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino for a discussion focused on how the Buffalo Bills defense could end up being even better than it was last season, a 2023 campaign that saw them finish fourth-best in points allowed and ninth in yards. The Bills defense, especially statistically was pretty damn good last year. It's a continuation that's seen them in the top five in fewest points allowed four the five past years. But last year's defense wasn't without cracks and the guys talk about some of those issues, including the unit's failure to close out games with a (very) late lead three times, some awful injury luck and a penchant for imploding in games the team didn't win. They spend a good chunk of this show explaining some factors that could lead to the defense being better this season, even if not statistically. Among those reasons are getting Matt Milano back, a solid influx of youth and athleticism at all three levels of the defense, improved depth at defensive tackle, Von Miller coming into camp 100% healthy again and just the belief that they'll have better luck with team crippling injuries. They also do their "Finish the Sentence" segment, talk about the recent surge of Talking Buffalo and much more. Trends Of A Joe Brady Buffalo Bills Offense13 May 202401:13:45
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a chat about some noticeable trends from a Joe Brady coordinated offense for the Buffalo Bills going into the 2024 season in addition to thoughts on John Murphy retiring and some Bills schedule predictions. The Bills seemed to have more success last season after Sean McDermott fired Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator following the Denver loss in Week 10 and replacing him with Brady. The Bills record was certainly better from that point on, but was the offense really more efficient? Patrick looked into some statistics and found trends the guys talk about, including a big change in time of possession, the needing to continuing to move towards running the football more, no singular lion's share of passing targets and significant upticks for two weapons. They also talk about a few things that were perceived as big changes but really werent---such as Josh Allen's turnovers and rushing attempts/yards. Also, John Murphy is retiring from being the radio voice of the Buffalo Bills after 35 years, including the past 19 as the team's play-by-play guy. Murphy suffered a stroke in early 2023 and talking remains too difficult for him to continue the job. The guys talk about his career, one that spans in Buffalo for well over three decades and how they felt about him as an on-air talent. They also each make three predictions for the Bills 2024 schedule in advance of it being officially released on Wednesday night and much more. Matt Parrino Talks Bills, Live From Casey's Black Rock10 May 202401:04:20
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is talking Buffalo Bills and plenty more with Bills beat reporter and popular podcast host Matt Parrino in a conversation recorded live from Casey's Black Rock in Buffalo. From the time the Bills lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional playoff round through last month's NFL draft and up til now, it's been an eventful offseason for the Bills--one of change. Matt helps Patrick navigate through it all, highlighting what he thinks the front office has gotten right and a few opportunities missed. Would Matt pull the trigger on trading Stefon Diggs right now were he Brandon Beane if he knew how the position would be handled since dealing away Buffalo's top receiver over the past four years. Patrick also asks Matt if he thinks the Bills made a mistake releasing Mitch Morse instead of redoing his contract, how he feels about the Bills 2024 draft haul now that he's had some time to reflect, what direction the Bills offense may be headed in and his reaction to people's overreactions on the Chase Claypool signing. That plus some talk of Buffalo summer, wings and much more. A huge thank you to Casey's Black Rock for their hospitality and having us do the show there. They truly are not just one of the most underrated spots in town for killer wings, but a great place to relax and have a drink with some awesome decor and vibes throughout the bar---even if it's a Kansas City Chiefs backer bar! Don't Sleep on Bills DE Smoot, Plus Two 2024 Breakout Candidates09 May 202400:56:30
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks to discuss a potentially effective Bills free agent singing flying under the radar, two potential breakout candidates this season for the Bills in addition to plenty of Buffalo Sabres talk. Chase Claypool was the noticeable name that signed with the Bills late last week, a move that Tone calls out Patrick for his negative overreaction, but the addition of Dawuane Smoot mostly slid the cracks and/or was quickly dismissed by many as non-relevant news. Tone advises that shouldn't be the case, pointing out the structure of his contract shows it's highly likely Smoot's going to be part of this roster and defensive end rotation. The guys talk about that very possibly be a good thing considering Smoot had four consecutive seasons of at least six sacks before being slowed down last year in recovering from a torn achilles. Can Smoot be this year's version of Leonard Floyd? After the Smoot section Patrick gets into two incoming second-year players he may be higher than most; wide receiver Justin Shorter and linebacker Dorian Williams. In the case of Shorter, Brandon Beane's excellent day three draft record is pointed out as well Shorter never getting going last year after a hamstring injury. Williams was a different story---we saw his athleticism immediately but it was apparent that mental gaffes on assignments led him to Sean McDermott's dog house, so much so that he mostly watched from the sidelines as AJ Klein got helplessly torched by Travis Kelce in the playoffs. Patrick feels confident that if Williams grows on the mental side of things in year two that he could carve himself out a significant role in this defense and on this roster, even if not as a starter. They also talk about what the Sabres may do with UPL's next contract, even more Jeff Skinner talk, Tone snubs Patrick's birthday and much more. Podbag: Saying Bills Title Window's Closed Is Stupid08 May 202400:50:24
On today's Talking Buffalo, it's another edition of The Podbag---the episode where the audience controls the narrative and Patrick Moran is answering questions and reading takes sent it from listeners and viewers of the show, mostly focused around the ongoing Buffalo Bills offseason. The Bills lost a ton of veteran players and leaders this offseason, particularly Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Tre White, Mitch Morse and Stefon Diggs. This coupled with their inability to get past the AFC divisional round the past three years has created a strong national perception, at least among media and fans that Buffalo's Super Bowl window is closing if not closed for this regime. As one fan of the show points out, it's a load of crap and uses multiple examples of great quarterbacks winning Super Bowl far older than Josh Allen currently is. Patrick talks about agreeing that the Bills window to win a championship with this core is still very much doable but does admit that it won't get any seemingly easier than it was the past handful of seasons, when Buffalo put themselves in great position to get it done. There's several other interesting submissions this week, including a more predominant running game on the way, someone locked in on the development of second-year linebacker Dorian Williams, Sean McDermott's storied history of developing linebackers and Diggs' attitude being gone a positive for the Bills. There's also someone extremely happy that Lindy Ruff is here to coach the Sabres and plenty more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. The Bills Offense Seems To Be Changing07 May 202400:59:51
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is really starting to wonder if the Buffalo Bills are having a crisis of identity with their offense based on recent decisions and it's up to friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to convince him it's not headed toward a downward spiral. it's been well documented in conversation, data and film study that Bills quarterback Josh Allen has enjoyed the majority of his success working the passing game with smaller receivers who excel at separation and getting open quickly as opposed to bigger, physical lumbering receivers who excel more in traffic and catching contested balls. General manager Brandon Beane talked about this just a week or so before the NFL draft, yet the Bills appear to be getting away from what their standard of receiver has been, first drafting Keon Coleman in the second round and then signing free agent wide receiver Chase Claypool last Friday. Patrick absolutely hates the Claypool signing and immediately overreacted on social media when it happened, something Anthony immediately called him out on. At any rate, the guys have a pretty detailed discussion over what they think this Bills offense is trying to be. Does factors like drafting a big guy like Keon Coleman over a Stefon Diggs/Khalil Shakir type like Ladd McConkey, and cutting Mitch Morse to move a much bigger Connor McGovern over to center, or drafting bowling ball style running back Ray Davis in the fourth round symbolize that Sean McDermott is looking for the Bills to be more physical and methodical with their offense as opposed to speedy and explosive? It certainly feels that way. Also, there's no use crying over spilled milk but do the guys think the team is going to rue trading Diggs instead of finding a way to make things work for one more year and does the departure of Diggs and not doing anything of note other than a draft to replace him put a lot of instant pressure on Coleman? What about the notion that Sean McDermott doesn't care about the offense as much as the defense, despite the fact the Bills have now drafted a pass catcher with their first pick in the past two drafts. That plus their "Finish the Sentence" segment and a whole lot more . Ranking Bills WR Room Against Its Peers, Plus Graham's Pegula Story06 May 202401:00:25
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a conversation on a handful of topics, highlighted by the Buffalo Bills wide receiver room and where it stands compared to its peers around the league. Patrick went through each team around the look and took a look at the top four wide receivers on each of their depth charts. In the end he created a power ranking for all 32 teams in addition to putting them in six separate tiers---as the difference between being ranked 13th to 20th feels a lot more distant than it actually is. In compiling the list he took into account their current talent, projected talent going forward and what teams he'd be willing to trade the Buffalo wide receiver room for. Patrick's assessment concludes that the Bills top four of Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Mack Hollins slides into the fifth of six tiers and more specifically ranks just 25th out of 32 teams. The guys have a conversation about the Bills group, where they slot in on the chart and how much more could they realistically rise in the reasonably near future. Also, Tim Graham of The Athletic recently posted a fascinating story about the Pegula's, including the revelation that Kim Pegula is now legally incapacitated with Terry as the guardian in addition to Terry's daughter Laura playing a much more prominent role in the the Bills and Buffalo Sabres organization than almost anyone knew about. Tim followed it up with several interesting viewpoints on his Tim Graham and Friends podcast and the guys have several thoughts on this story that's starting to have the feel of a HBO drama. That plus Joe wants to know if Bills fans are going to obsess more over what Stefon Diggs does in Houston or Xavier Worthy does with Kansas City, Patrick absolutely can't stand the Bills Chase Claypool signing and much more. Was Lindy Ruff The Right Sabres Choice?03 May 202400:43:38
On this episode of Talking Patrick, Patrick Moran discusses with friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks whether new/once again Buffalo Sabres head coach was the right person to get tasked with putting an end to the team's historic playoff drought in addition to a conversation about the general direction of the team. Tone was on the show yesterday when the discussion centered on if the Buffalo Bills look like a team that's still going to be good in 2024. Today it's almost entirely about the Sabres. Following a 13th consecutive season of missing the playoffs, not only an extension of their own record but tying the New York Jets for the longest in major pro sports, Terry Pegula fired Don Granato and within a week Ruff was hired to once again take over. The guys talk about if have a problem with a wider coaching net not being cast before landing on Ruff as well as how much of the hire is about hockey and how much to perhaps help win back fans. There's also plenty to talk about with the team in general. Despite nearly everyone saying it's not going to happen, Tone is still convinced that the Sabres are going to end up getting rid of Jeff Skinner this summer, whether that comes through buy out or a trade and even uses an interesting Bills situation as a baseline for comparison. He also has thoughts on Matthew Fairburn recently saying on this show Dylan Cozens could eventually become a captain on this team in addition to thoughts on trading Casey Mittelstadt rather than paying him long term, not having a rush to get anyone in the pipeline onto the main roster and plenty more. How Good Are The 2024 Buffalo Bills Right Now?02 May 202401:01:40
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran's joined in studio by friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for a conversation on a handful of topics, including how good they think the 2024 Buffalo Bills are internally and compared to the rest of the league now that the NFL draft has passed. It's certainly been an eventful offseason for the Bills---one which has seen significant change. Gone are several veterans and leaders such as Mitch Morse, Tre White, Jordan Poyer, Michael Hyde and Gabe Davis. Of course, the Bills also traded top receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans for 2025 draft capital. They've also added free agent talent to the team such as Curtis Samuel, Mike Edwards and Austin Johnson in addition to their draft class highlighted by Keon Coleman and Cole Bishop. It feels like on paper it's clear they've taken a step back--but is that the reality? The guys both have a variety of opinions on how this team looks as presently constructed and how they stack up against their peers around the league. That plus the Boulevard Mall has shut down, learning that a high school football & baseball coach from nearly 35 years ago is still alive and well---and plenty more. How Much Does Keon's Coleman's Personality Matter?01 May 202400:43:42
Today on Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is debuting a newly titled segment called "Pod Synergy" in which the narrative of the episode is completely controlled by takes and questions submitted by listeners and viewers of the show. Previously this was called "Fan Friday" but guess what---- it's not a Friday and when these episodes will drop will vary so we're going with a name change. Featured today are several comments/questions from fans about the Buffalo Bills and the recent NFL draft, including a really good question asking how much of a factor, if any was the selection of Keon Coleman in the second round based on his personality and the type of relationship the organization expects Coleman to have with with Josh Allen. It's certainly a fair point to ponder as it became apparent that what many perceived as the premature trading of Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans was based in part on a relationship with Josh that may have deteriorated. Obviously Brandon Beane isn't going to make that high of a selection based purely on personality but to say it didn't matter would probably be a lie as well. Also, what specifically did Patrick most like and not like about the Bills draft? What incumbent Bills players were the biggest winners and losers of this latest Buffalo draft haul? Who were the biggest draft steals around the league? That plus thoughts on Lindy Ruff, a friend of Patrick's considering him smug and much more today. These fan narrative controlled "Pod Synergy" episode will air semi-regularly with no set dates but you can typically expect them on Wednesdays. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. James Cook Trending Towards Next Buffalo Bills Superstar17 Sep 202400:43:48
It’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the episode where the audience controls the narrative and topics. Patrick Moran's responding to several takes and questions, including James Cook looking like he's taking another step towards truly becoming a star player for the Buffalo Bills through their first two games. The statistics don't blow you away even with his three touchdown performance in Miami, but Cook's running style and ability (so far) to be a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield if giving off some serious Le'Veon Bell vibes. Bell was once widely regarded as the best running back in football from 2014-17 with his distinct running style and all-around ability. Patrick talks about what's looked different this year than last from Cook, even with Cook having an impressive statistical 2023 campaign. Patrick also responds to questions about takes regarding where the Bills look to be stacking up right now compared to the rest of the league based on a small sample size, what his confidence level is in Braylon Spector replacing Terrell Bernard for the time being, how he's feeling going into the Week three matchup against Jacksonville and being unafraid to admit when he's dead wrong about predictions. There's also a few Sabres topics revolving around training camp opening this week, including being asked what he thinks the chances are Sabres first-round draft pick Konstas Helenius makes the team out of camp in addition the effect he expects Lindy Ruff to have on the team and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast  YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Favorite NFL Team Drafts, Plus Bills Roster Outlook30 Apr 202401:01:48
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to go over who they feel had the best crop of selections around the league last week in addition to a discussion about if the Buffalo Bills are really doing everything in their power to put a championship caliber team on the field. While the Bills are obviously not looking to throw in the towel on the 2024 season, Patrick thinks it's obvious that they're not as fully committed to use every imagine resource to give them the best chance to win a Super Bowl this season. He points to the Stefon Diggs trade for an asset in 2025 as well as how this 2024 draft just went down for the Bills.. Does Anthony agree? He's got plenty to say as well. It's certainly not all doom and gloom with the Bills regardless of how you feel about their title chances. The guys talk about good ascending talent expected to take on even bigger roles with the team and improvements over last year in some areas, including defensive tackle depth and maybe even the safety position. They also objectively each give a list of their favorite collective team drafts from around the league, including some begrudging credit to a few of Buffalo's biggest rivals. That and plenty more. Bills Biggest 2024 Draft & Roster Takeaways29 Apr 202401:14:14
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the 2024 NFL draft is in the books and Patrick Moran's joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss some of their biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways from it in addition to makeup of the roster as things stand. From round one all the way through the end of the seventh there were at least a couple of surprises Buffalo pulled off, including trading down twice and ultimately out of the first round all together. The guys have thoughts on that decision and passing up on taking Xavier Worthy or Xavier Legette to selection Keon Coleman at the start of round two and pick up a third-round pick. As you'd suspect neither is happy and particularly Joe that Buffalo didn't take multiple wide receivers, which makes you wonder if they ultimately would've been better off just keeping Stefon Diggs for another season despite any potential lingering drama. That's discussed as well as Patrick's theory that the Bills view Mack Hollins significantly higher than many others. Also, are we pretty much blowing Curtis Samuel off? Receiver debate it felt like a practical and good value draft for Buffalo as the guys discuss all the other picks and what their roles on this team could be for 2024. That plus a pretty spirited conversation about how committed the Bills really are to trying to win a Super Bowl this year versus being set up for future years and much more. Instant Reaction: Bills Add Three On Night Two27 Apr 202400:38:58
On this rare weekend episode of Talking Buffalo, night two of the NFL draft is in the books and Patrick Moran's streaming live just minutes after, offering instant reaction to what Buffalo added to it's roster in rounds two and three. The Bills stuck to the board with the first pick of round two and went with the 6-foot-4 big receiver from Florida State. Coleman 658 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns with the Seminoles last year and Patrick's got plenty thoughts on him, including loving the facts they'll be no "what ifs" with who the Bills wanted at receiver. Just as they could've taken Xavier Worthy or Xavier Legette on night one, Beane could've taken any receiver he wanted to begin the second round and landed on Coleman. Patrick goes through some Coleman's biggest strengths (size, competitive, run blocking) and weaknesses (straight line speed, separation skills) and what his fit on this team should be. No trade up with their second of two second round picks either as Buffalo selected safety Cole Bishop of Utah, marking the second consecutive year Buffalo's plugged a prospect early from there (Dalton Kincaid). Patrick has thoughts on him, warning that fans shouldn't expect Bishop to be a plug-and-play starter but he's a ferocious, fearless and athletic safety that has impact starter potential and reminds him plenty of a young Jordan Poyer. With their last pick of the night, they stood pat at No. 95 in round three and selected Duke defensive tackle DeWayne Carter. Patrick discusses liking him enough to not be infuriated that the Bills haven't double dipped at wide receiver and is instead merely disappointed. Patrick also sets you up for the final day of the draft with some of the best available players positionally for Saturday's rounds four through seven finale. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Instant Reaction To The Bills Trading Down Twice Thursday26 Apr 202400:38:11
On this special episode of Talking Buffalo, the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is in the books and Patrick Moran is up (very) late to provide instant reaction to the Buffalo Bills trading back not once, but twice near the end of the first round and leaving Thursday night without a pick. The Bills traded down from 28 to 32 with Kansas City, allowing them to grab Xavier Worthy. They they traded down from the last pick of round one to the first of round two with Carolina, allowing the Packers to go get Xavier Legette. Obviously, Patrick's got a lot of thoughts, admittedly confused as they're in real time just minutes after the round ended. Patrick also spends some time going over some of the things he was most surprised by---including six of the first 12 picks being quarterbacks and the first 14 picks being all offensive players. As for the big three receivers, all three were gone before the 10th pick and Patrick's at peace knowing if Beane wanted Rome Odunze bad enough, he was realistically there for the taking. Patrick also hits on many of the top players positionally that could be in play for Buffalo heading into night two of the draft Friday night. That and plenty more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Buffalo Bills Final Draft Predictions & Scenarios Analysis25 Apr 202400:56:47
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the NFL Draft has finally arrived and Patrick Moran is making his final Buffalo Bills predictions with analysis of some possible scenarios just hours before the real thing is set to begin. After spending weeks if not months believing that a non-wide receiver was very much in play with Buffalo's first pick depending on how things fell, Patrick's heard enough to now believe it's a receiver no matter what theme inside the walls at One Bills Drive. That makes the question not if the Bills will take a wide receiver in the first round, but rather which one and at what point. Patrick lays out scenarios that could have them go as high as Tennessee at seven to go get Rome Odunze, the mid-to-late teens to fish out Brian Thomas Jr. or even just a few spots to ensure one of the tier of other guys they like to be available. In fact, Patrick lays out his prediction that the Bills ultimately move up three spots with the Green Bay Packers to get the wide receiver he thinks is their best fit, Xavier Legette over Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell. In his quick four-round mock Patrick explains why his choice would be Legette and in fact it's just the first of two trades he makes on behalf of Brandon Beane. After being rejected in a trade-up offer in the second round Patrick stands pat and explains why safety Kamren Kinchens is the perfect Bills pick there, even if PFF thinks the selection stinks. Buffalo doesn't have a third round pick but that changes when Patricks wings a deal and ends up grabbing a guard he thinks can compete for a starting job right away, Cooper Beebe. He finishes up with a wide receiver double dip in round four. Patrick also talks about not sleeping on Mack Hollins if Buffalo doesn't dip, some free agent veteran options still out there if Beane doesn't adequately address edge over the next few days, how he'd be willing to move up and pay the hefty price for Odunze were it his call and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Greg Tompsett Talks Bills, Draft & Lindy (Live From Sonny Red's)24 Apr 202401:16:55
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by popular Cover 1 content creator Greg Tompsett for a conversation centered around the Buffalo Bills and the NFL draft, recorded and streamed live from Sonny Red's in Lackawanna. The NFL draft is now less than two days away and when it comes to the Buffalo Bills, it feels anything is on the table and especially at wide receiver. The guys hit on a myriad of potential scenarios on how Brandon Beane can address losing both Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason, primarily through the draft. Greg has thoughts on possibly taking a home run swing into the top 10 for a guy like Rome Odunze, more moderate trade ups for Brian Thomas Jr. or Adonai Mitchell, staying pat at 28 for a wide receiver or even trading down. Plus, is Greg even married to a wide receiver with the Bills first pick even if it's their biggest need? Greg also talks about the possibilities of a few notable veterans worth trading for and if the Bills can find money in the banana stand to pay for it. Also, Greg shares insight on a handful of non-wide receivers that he could be happy with as first pick selections and some day two and even day three picks he's pretty high on. That plus a little shifting of the gears to talk about the Buffalo Sabres bringing back Lindy Ruff to be their head coach again and much more. You can follow Greg on Twitter @GregTompsett and be sure to check out the Cover 1 Buffalo podcast Greg does alongside Aaron Quinn at  Cover 1. Special thanks to Sonny Red's for hosting the live taping of the podcast. As Patrick has been saying for quite some time, Sonny Red's may be the most underrated restaurant in Western New York when it comes to ridiculously good wings and brick oven pizza. It's just minutes from Highmark Stadium at 1841 Abbott Road. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Buffalo Bills & NFL Bold Draft Predictions23 Apr 202401:05:20
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, we're just two days away from the start of the 2024 NFL Draft and Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to put out a list of bold draft predictions as it pertains both to the Buffalo Bills and the rest of the National Football League. When it comes to the Buffalo Bills it feels like everything's on the table, especially after trading Stefon Diggs a few weeks ago to Houston. There's depth to be had all over the roster for sure but receiver feels like the one glaring need going into this draft. That puts many things in play---ranging from going into the top 10 to land Rome Odunze, moving into the middle of the first-round to snag Brian Thomas Jr., a moderate trade up or trade back to take a receiver first, or to not address it all with the first pick, seeing there's a lot of day two talent at the position. The guys offer predictions on how it's addressed, including Patrick being convinced the possibility of Brandon Beane trading for a veteran bona fide number one receiver being very much real despite the salary cap challenges. In fact, in three "bold" prediction scenarios he sees the Bills moving up from 28 to 17, but not for a receiver. As you'd suspect, Anthony has plenty to say about that. Patrick also paints a picture of a non-receiver in the first at pick 28 with a large trade up leap into round two for a pass catcher and lists his three most likely candidates. Anthony has plenty of thoughts as well about player and trade options for the Bills and a few bold predictions to offer of his own, including big swings at wide receiver. That plus the guys take a stab at a few crazy things that happen around the league with the draft and much more. A Memorable Buffalo Sports Week Discussed22 Apr 202401:11:04
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss a pretty significant week in the landscape of Buffalo sports, including the firing of Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato and a report that Terry Pegula is willing to sell a chunk of the Buffalo Bills. Tim Graham of The Athletic broke the news late last week that Pegula is willing to put up around 25% of the Bills for sale, bringing in a minority partner but still maintaining a controlling interest in the franchise. The guys talk about why this is happening, what it means for now and what it may mean for the future. Also, the report says that no part of the Sabres is for sale but do the guys expect that to change? Sticking with The Athletic, it was a big week for the outlet as it pertains to Buffalo, as besides Graham's scoop on Bills ownership, Matthew Fairburn scored the first interview with now former Sabres head coach Don Granato after he was fired last week. The guys talk about the article, their takes on Granato getting fired and who's most to blame for it----and Joe has some takes/stories on Lindy Ruff, who's perceived as a realistic candidate to replace Granato. They also talk about the press conferences Brandon Beane, Sean McDermott and Josh Allen had as well as one final chat and Bills thoughts between the two before the NFL draft this coming Thursday and much more. Matthew Fairburn & Kris Baker Talk Sabres/Bills (LIVE From Imperial Pizza)19 Apr 202401:16:25
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is recording/streaming live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo and is joined by Buffalo Sabres beat reporter Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic as well as Kris Baker of Sabres Prospect, who together form the Baker Fairburn Hockey Show for a conversation primarily focused on the Sabres in wake of the organization firing head coach Don Granato this past week. Its always nice to get together with Matthew for a chat and the timing couldn't be better on this one. The Sabres fired Granato the morning after the regular season finale, a surprise to many as it felt Terry Pegula would retain him going into next season seeing Granato had an extension. Matthew has several thoughts on the firing and why he believes it has to happen. Matthew was also at the arena this week for players locker room cleanout day and media availability and shares some of what he heard in addition to some thoughts on who can be the next head coach to take over. Could it be Lindy Ruff? Matthew has also covered the Buffalo Bills for The Athletic previously and the guys spend some time talking football, including getting Matthew's thoughts on Stefon Diggs and him being traded for Houston, the assumption that the Bills will take a wide receiver with their first draft pick next week and his thoughts on head coach Sean McDermott. That plus a little wings, Buffalo, media talk and much more. Shout out as always to Imperial Pizza for their great hospitality and killer wings. This show was recorded at the 1035 Abbott Road location but they also now have their 1655 Main Street location alive and kicking as well. Eight Bills Non First-Round Draft Prospects To Like (Plus Granato Firing Commentary)18 Apr 202400:56:29
On this episode of Talking Buffalo as we reach the one week mark before the 2024 NFL Draft, Patrick Moran goes over eight draft prospects that he likes that are not going to be first-round selections in addition to thoughts and commentary immediately following the Buffalo Sabres at least somewhat surprising firing of head coach Don Granato on Tuesday. It's easy to spend most if not all your time as a fan or content creator obsessing over the biggest names and who will be the first pick of the Bills next Thursday whether they stay at No. 28 or move up for someone, but in reality drafts and even championships are often made on days two and three of the NFL draft. Patrick has eight guys likely to be selected in the second to fifth round range that he's pretty high and thinks could be a great fit for Buffalo. The list includes a pair of guys in the trenches that could play meaningful snaps right away, two wide receivers that could contribute and potentially even start by season's end and a pair of prospects from the team Patrick's a big fan of, Notre Dame. Turning to the Sabres, Patrick expresses his thoughts on the team announcing Granato's dismissal the morning following their season finale in Tampa the night before. Patrick's admittedly borderline shocked and outlines reasons why he thinks the move was completely necessary to show not just the roster, but fans that they're fully committed to winning and ending the longest playoff drought in NHL history. Patrick also gives credit to Pegula for not sticking with Granato despite giving him an extension and lists a few guys he can see taking over the reigns, including one Sabres fans are incredibly familiar with. Spoiler alert---it's Lindy Ruff. That and much more today. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Bills Coach Sean McDermott Is Shining Early16 Sep 202401:03:53
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss several Buffalo Bills (and Sabres) topics, including the outstanding job Bills head coach Sean McDermott is again doing early in the season. Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel gets a lot of hype but the guys talk about how once again it was McDermott coaching circles around him last week in a lopsided Buffalo road win to improve to 2-0 on the season. Patrick considers it his single-biggest takeaway from the game adn PK has plenty to say about the team buying into everything Sean's doing and saying. Also, the Bills offense doesn't necessarily feel like it's been very effective but early season metrics suggest otherwise. The guys have a discussion about getting used to what's clearly a different Bills offense than we've seen in recent years. Additionally, Sabres training camp starts later this week with veterans reporting. What is PK most eager to see unfold during camp and the preseason and what's his overall level of excitement? That plus a look around the NFL from Week two Sunday, should Tua retire and much more. Buffalo Bills Mock Draft 4.0, Is WR Really A Lock?17 Apr 202401:12:57
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's our fourth in a series of five weekly Buffalo Bills mock drafts leading up to the actual draft beginning on April 25th and for it Patrick Moran's joined by Aaron Quinn from Cover 1 for the first time in over seven months to discuss the Bills selections. Two of the first three Bills mock drafts have resulted in the Buffalo taking something other than receiver with their first pick, but things very well may have changed with Brandon Beane trading Stefon Diggs to Houston two weeks ago. For Aaron, how much does that raise the likelihood that the Bills have to go receiver first? Aaron also has some takes on why the position doesn't necessarily have to be filled by a specific type of player, as he's more fond of "positionless" wide receivers that are good at creating separation and creating defensive matchup problems. Spoiler alert--- after plenty of talking about other potential positions being addressed early, the guys go ahead and not only take a receiver first but immediate double dip. Bonus spoiler alert--it's aided by two trades, a trade down with Baltimore and then a trade-up with Vegas. But that's not all the double dipping in this draft as the guys find that blocking for Josh Allen is an effective way to have a better offense. Staying with the trend, they pick up a pair of safeties that Aaron loves in the fourth round as well as their final pick. Additionally, the guys spend a few minutes talking about going on their first cruises ever respectively over the past few months and much more. Eight Non-WR's The Bills Could Realistically Draft First16 Apr 202401:03:46
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino for their weekly chat, this time focused on at least five non-wide receivers that the Bills could realistically end up selecting with their first pick of the draft, possibly via a modest trade up that may or may not lessen the wrath from fans that Brandon Beane didn't take a receiver with Buffalo's first selection. To preface today's discussion, the key word is "realistic." Neither Patrick nor Anthony consider it feasible to trade all the way up in the draft to target a non-receiver such as offensive tackle Joe Alt or edge rusher Dallas Turner. Instead, Anthony lists five guys that are considered realistic for the Bills, whether that's staying pat at 28 and having a guy fall to them or to make a modest move up--meaning no higher than the very late teens or early twenties. The list includes two edge rushers, an interior defensive lineman, a defensive back and interior offensive lineman. To reiterate, both guys predict and prefer wide receiver to be the spot but with the position being rich in depth, there's certainly a possibility the Bills look elsewhere before turning their attention to a pass catcher. After Anthony's list, Patrick adds three more of his own with his rationale behind the possibilities. This plus Bills OTA's starting, moving on from the Diggs Fatigue and plenty more. "Diggs Fatigue" (Plus An OJ Simpson Chat)15 Apr 202401:22:35
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for a discussion primarily around "Diggs Fatigue" being the biggest reason Stefon Digg is no longer with the Buffalo Bills in addition to several thoughts on O.J. Simpson following his death from cancer over the past week. Joe hasn't been on the podcast since Buffalo traded Diggs to the Houston Texans for a 2025 second-round pick and is raring to go with several (hot) takes on it. Joe, who mostly sides with Diggs in any beefs between he and the organization, media and fans tries to talk about it from several angles, including his on field production, fan reaction, the team's point of view, what led to Diggs being so pissed and also how the media covered him in Buffalo. Patrick disagrees with at least some of Joe's assessment and leads to some pretty testy debates. Also, Simpson died in his home at 76-years old from his fight with cancer. Without question one of the most fascinating and polarizing football players and celebrities of our lifetime--primarily for the wrong reasons---the guys have a conversation about his life, fame and legacy. Is separating the art from the artist in some ways plausible? That, a big moment for the Cody Crybabies and plenty more today in a pretty fiery episode that doesn't pull any punches. Jay Skurski Talks Bills, Diggs, Draft (LIVE From Imperial)12 Apr 202401:07:15
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is recording live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo and is joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News for a conversation primarily focused on the Buffalo Bills, aftermath of the Stefon Diggs and insight into what Buffalo may do in the upcoming NFL draft. It has certainly been an eventful offseason for the Buffalo Bills with some of it expected and some not so much. Jay has several thoughts on the totality of what the Bills have done so far in terms of getting rid of plenty veterans (a few more surprising than others) and the guys they've added so far. He also has plenty of thoughts on the Diggs trade from all sides, including the perceived relationship Diggs had with both coach and quarterback and Jay's thoughts about how he'll ultimately be remembered for his time in Buffalo. Jay also goes over a handful of wide receivers and some other positional players he likes for Buffalo in this draft. Should it be considered a foregone conclusion the Bills take a wide receiver with their first pick? What and who is realistically in play with it? They also spend some time talking about the hugely disappointing Buffalo Sabres season that extended their own NHL record playoff drought. Jay, a fan who attends some home games shares his thoughts on the state of the team and if Terry Pegula should fire Don Granato after the season ends next week. That plus some talk about wings, golf and much more. As always, a huge thanks to Imperial Pizza for their great hospitality and killer wings. It should also be noted that the second Imperial location at 1665 Main Street is fully open for business. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Should The Sabres Move On From Granato?11 Apr 202401:09:00
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks to discuss some Buffalo Sabres & Bills topics, including the Sabres officially cementing 13 years without a playoff appearance as one of several reasons it's time for the organization to fire head coach Don Granato. After narrowly missing the playoffs last year the expectations for the Sabres were higher. In those regards as well many others, it's been a huge disappointment. The guys discuss how much Granato, the current sixth-longest tenured head coach in the NHL deserves the blame for another faceplant of a regular season campaign---one that saw Buffalo got from third in the NHL in goals scored last year to 21st this year, on the heels of a power play ranked 29th in the league. Early sleepwalks to start games were a huge problem this season, as evidenced by the 29 times Buffalo's given up two or more goals in the first period and just a 7-21-1 record in those games. That's a direct indictment on Granato not having his team ready to play coming out of the locker room. There's that, a seemingly big lack of accountability and a season-long inability to go on any sort of sustained positive run. Of course, Granato deserving to get fired and it actually happening are two completely different things. Do Patrick and Tony have confidence in Terry Pegula to fire Granato when the season ends next week, even if he has to eat an entire Granato extension before it actually kicks in? Spoiler alert---not likely. They also spend time talking Bills, even though Tone is completely disengaged from all the Stefon Diggs drama at this point. However, he has thoughts about a possible perception of Josh Allen's work ethic while the guys discuss the possibility that much to the chagrin of most fans, the Bills don't take a wide receiver with their first pick of the draft. That, why Tone blocked Patrick on Twitter and plenty more today. Bills Super Bowl Window's Hardly Closed, But...10 Apr 202400:59:25
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran disputes any (mostly) national narrative that the Buffalo Bills Super Bowl window has formally closed, but discusses how and why there are plenty of reasons to proceed with caution. Critics and haters alike both nationally and surely some locally have written off the Bills completely after a handful of AFC divisional round face plants coupled with significance player personnel losses over the offseason. Patrick explains why he thinks that foolish on several reasons, ranging of course primarily because of a quarterback as capable of anyone in the sport and a nucleus of teammates that are still ascending and haven't hit their ceiling yet, plus plenty of guys with leadership material to fill voids such as Von Miller, Taron Johnson, Dion Dawkins and Dawson Knox among others. That said, it's fair to argue the Bills have blown incredible chances over the past three years and may not be gifted another opportunity as golden anytime soon. The AFC is stacked and it certainly appears you can add Houston to that mix as well, not to mention Joe Burrow returning to a Bengals team that has owned the Bills over the past two years and of course, back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City that will probably have a significantly better offense than they did last year. Plus, you can't discount how much talent and veteran leadership the Bills have lost this offseason and regardless of how you feel about Stefon Diggs, his trade leaves a very big void in the offense. Speaking of, Patrick has some thoughts on Diggs to share of his own after listening to several guests offer those on the show over the past week. That plus why Patrick refuses to ever call Ed Oliver's contract a bargain, his highs and lows from Wrestlemania 40 weekend and more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Why Wasn't Stefon Diggs Happier in Buffalo?09 Apr 202401:03:15
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to discuss several topics including why now former Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs seemingly wasn't happier in Buffalo despite so many reasons to feel like he should've been. By this point there's been plenty of time to process the Diggs shocking trade to Houston and figure out some of the football reasons why Brandon Beane decided it was time for the organization to move on. But while it's becoming more apparent than Diggs wanted out and may have actively sought a trade, what many are still seeking out is learning why Diggs wasn't happier in Buffalo. Despite being well paid, being the undisputed number one receiver, playing with an elite quarterback and being on a winning team---Diggs wanted out. Anthony's got plenty of thoughts why. They also discuss some prospective replacements Anthony would like to see take over for Diggs in addition to sharing thoughts on Vox Media shutting down the Buffalo Rumblings podcast network, meeting Jason Sudeikis recently and the guys resuming their "Finish the Sentence" segment. That and plenty more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Bills Mock Draft 3.0, Thank You Washington08 Apr 202401:38:44
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's the third weekly Buffalo Bills mock draft in a series leading up to the actual NFL draft starting on April 25th and for this one Patrick Moran is joined by talented analyst Anthony Prohaska of Cover 1 in a mock that features not one, but two trades with the Washington Commanders. Of course the Bills fan base and quite possibly the team itself is reeling from the trade of star receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. While many are outraged and have seemingly turned on Diggs since the trade in light of learning more about the rocky relationship between he and Josh Allen, Anthony spends time speaking highly of Diggs and his elite worth ethic, even throwing in a Kobe Bryant comparison. The guys fire up the mock draft and pause at several points, highlighting potential move up spots and ballpark costs to do it. Despite several opportunities, Anthony, playing Bills GM and making the picks ultimately not only decides against trading up, but actually ends up moving back from 28 to 36 after a trade with Washington that nets the Bills a third-round pick. Anthony uses the Bills first pick to take a lightning fast receiver and again passes on the chance to move up in round two, standing pat and coming back with another receiver many would consider borderline shocking to still be on the board. Anthony goes interior defensive line with the Bills third round pick before bolstering the offensive line and cornerback room with a pair of fourth rounders. They go safety with their first fifth-round pick before executing a trade up, with Washington again to snag a guard Anthony's high on. They finish off with an edge rusher with their last fifth rounder and a running back project in round seven. This was not only a great mock draft to follow along to, but Anthony does an amazing job at informing and educating Bills fans of several prospects. That plus a comprehensive look at the trade up options make this mock a must-consume for fans. Marlon Kerner Talks Bills Corners & Diggs Trade (Live From Imperial Pizza)05 Apr 202401:16:13
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo and is joined by former Buffalo Bills cornerback Marlon Kerner for a conversation centered around the Buffalo Bills, the stunning trade of Stefon Diggs and Marlon's takes on the state of the Bills cornerbacks. A third-round draft pick of the Bills back in 1995, Kerner knows a thing or two about the cornerback position. He's got thoughts on the current boundary corners for the Bills---Rasul Douglas, Christian Benford and Kaiir Elam as well of one of the best nickels in the league, Taron Johnson. He also reflects on Tre White's time in Buffalo and the pain of having to release him this offseason. Also, shockwaves went through Buffalo and around the league a few days ago when Stefon Diggs was traded along with two late draft picks to Houston for a 2025 second-round. Marlon reveals if he was surprised by the move and how things go to the point the Bills were willing to dead over $30 million in dead cap money to ship Diggs out. They also spend some time talking about the current Bills roster, a lot of the veteran leaders that are now gone and who should be stepping up as well as Marlon's old high school recruiting and NFL draft prep experiences and much more. As always, a huge thanks to Imperial Pizza for their great hospitality and killer wings. Shocking Stefon Diggs Trade - Instant Reactions 04 Apr 202401:20:32
On this episode of Talking Buffalo streamed live, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for a plethora of reactions following the Buffalo Bills shocking trade of Stefon Diggs to Houston in early April, discussed objectively from all angles.  It was widely assumed that at least in part because of his contract, Diggs would remain in Buffalo for 2024 before a potential out for Buffalo in 2025. Instead, not only did the Bills trade Diggs along with a 2024 sixth and 2025 fifth round pick to Houston for a 2025 second, they did so without it being a post-June 1 designation, meaning the Bills have decided to eat the entirety of his $31 million in dead cap this season instead of spreading it out over two years.  The guys obviously have plenty to react to, including the timing of the trade, salary cap ramifications and how things got to the point where it feels the Bills became desperate to get him off their team. They also discuss if Diggs demanded a trade before today, how much if at all has his skill set eroded and in some ways is this move a form of addition by subtraction. They also discuss how the Bills will likely replace him including the now very real option of moving up in the draft to get a top receiver. Also, several incumbent members of the offense will have an opportunity to step up their production as well. That plus how Stefon will ultimately be remembered in Buffalo and tons more on the hells of this shocking offseason trade. Buffalo Bills Week Two Takeaways & Unsung Heroes (Bonus Pod) 14 Sep 202400:42:19
On this bonus Saturday edition of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran shares some of his biggest Buffalo Bills takeaways from their thrashing of Miami on Thursday night, including some points he missed in the instant reactions postgame shows and a few observations after watching the film, including pointing out a few unsung heroes. As Patrick explains, one of his favorite things to do and reasons why he watches the All-22 film isn't to educate you about alignments, gaps, route trees and other football terminology---he's not smart enough for that anyway. What he does however is learn who some of the unsung heroes are on the biggest plays of the game and/or the culprits when plays don't well--and relay that information to you. Patrick picks out three plays from this game and explains who played key roles, including James Cook's 49 yard touchdown, Ja'Marcus Ingram's pick six and Ty Johnson's 33 yard reception against the league's highest paid cornerback. Patrick also has very high praise for the job Sean McDermott is doing with the Bills in addition to some love for Ingram, some care for Tua, why he wouldn't resist recording this episode at 1:40am to drop on a Saturday where the audience is much smaller and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast  YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Buffalo Bills Mock Draft 2.0 - Let's Trade Up, Twice03 Apr 202400:59:16
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, it's the second of five weekly Buffalo Bills full seven round mock drafts leading up to the actual NFL draft starting April 25th and this time Patrick Moran is doing his solo, outlining realistic trade up and down scenarios and ultimately pulling the trigger on two himself. Before he gets into what'll be his lone solo mock, Patrick spends some time talking about what his goals are coming in---including help in the trenches very early, a receiver with one of the first two picks and some safety help early on day three. With the NFL changing the kickoff rule the expectations are teams will be more locked in on special teams skill, and that's no different with the Bills in this mock. He also lists three candidates that could be realistically trading up for, a few non-receivers definitely worth taking with the No. 28 overall pick, a couple of worthy wide receivers there as well as a handful of great candidates if the Bills are to trade down. He also pulls out a draft value chart to try and paint a semi-accurate picture of what it'll take the Bills to go up or down the board from some of their own picks. There's a million mock draft episodes out there, but hopefully the discussion and analysis that comes from this one helps it stand out a little. That and more today. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Revealing Bills New Stadium PSL Info & Busting Myths02 Apr 202400:40:59
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has discovered information on several aspects of the PSL and season ticket costs and policies with the new Stadium as opposed to just speculation and shares what he's learned after talking to multiple sources, demonstrating that at least some of the rumors out there are myths. Contrary to what a lot of people have said or suggested, it's not "buy your PSL now or miss out and go to the back of the line." Patrick explains how that's working with group and also shares what he's learned about the financing of PSL's, including how much of a deposit needs to put down when purchasing them and when the cutoff balance pay date is for these loans, which for the record are interest-free. Patrick also provides details of what's being sold and shown to perspective PSL buyers right now, including three club level areas that are going for $50k, $20k and $15k respectively. He also tells you some of the amenities included with these PSL, including a Buffalo Sabres like experience with players going on and off the field and what seats are heated/covered and which ones include food and drink. That plus how the process is working for those (vast majority) that don't know when they'll get their chance to do the Bills Stadium Experience, VIP parking opportunities, being able to downgrade your season tickets and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Should Buffalo Sports Standards Be Higher?01 Apr 202401:24:17
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss if the standard for success is too relaxed when it comes to Buffalo professional sports teams, and Joe also goes on (multiple) tirades over Buffalo Bills & Sabres owner Terry Pegula's unwillingness to speak publicly. Whether they deliver or not, other markets like Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, New York City, etc. have a mentality among fans and media that if you're not playing for championships then your season is a failure. That doesn't appear to be the case, at least not to Patrick in Buffalo. To him the standard in this market has been to make the playoffs, with maybe the goal posts moved to winning divisional titles in order for it to be evaluated as a successful campaign. Patrick doesn't buy it and thinks the standards the players and coaches are held to should be championship game appearances. Guys like Ed Oliver and Stefon Diggs, who've been great in the regular season seem to save their worst performances of the season for elimination game losses, which doesn't seem to carry the weight here it would in other markets. As far as Pegula rarely ever speaking publicly and never about the performances of the teams he owns, it continues to have Joe incensed and that's apparent on today's show. He also has plenty to say about a local media that he feels doesn't hold the owner nearly accountable for it either. It makes for a tense and sometimes disagree-filled conversation between the two guys. That plus their weekly "Starting Five" draft, this time consisting of best wrestler theme songs and much more. Chris Trapasso Talks Bills & NFL Draft (LIVE From Imperial Pizza)29 Mar 202401:16:38
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo for the first time in 2204 and is joined by Chris Trapasso from CBS Sports for a conversation centered around the Buffalo Bills, the NFL and the upcoming draft next month. The last time Patrick and Chris got together for a remote show taping was at a Cheektowaga pizzeria in October 2021 and within five minutes it ended abruptly after Patrick accidently spilled a beverage directly on the audio recorder. Incredibly mishap history repeated itself this time too, as Patrick's faulty laptop cable sent him back home to retrieve another one and postpone this live streamed episode by nearly a hour. All's well that end's well and the guys have a discussion about Imperial and their wings before getting into Chris becoming a regular fill-in host on One Bills Live, including him taking us behind scenes of what goes in with the show. From there they get into the Bills offseason to this point and Chris provides insight into what he's liked, and hasn't about the moves Buffalo has made as the draft gets near, surprising some by actually praising the release of Mitch Morse before free agency. From there they had to draft talk and Patrick r takes advantage of Chris's thorough knowledge of this year's draft prospects and asks him about several of them at a handful of positions the Bills are expected to address, especially wide receiver where we learn more about several prospects. That and plenty more football and other fun topics today. Make sure to follow Chris on Twitter @ChrisTrapasso. Wrong Bills Moves & Should Sabres Buy Out Skinner?28 Mar 202401:18:16
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by longtime friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for a conversation focused primarily on answering questions regarded the Buffalo Bills and Sabres in addition to Bills season tickets and a (quick) MLB 2024 preview. Tone Pucks has been a Buffalo Bills season ticket holder. Will he continue to be with the new stadium and the PSL (personal seating license) that comes with them? Patrick asks Pucks for his perspective and also shares a couple of things he's learned regarding how things are going with the Bills getting the selling of specific PSL's underway. They also go over some questions and comments submitted from fans, including being asked what they haven't liked so far when it comes to the Bills offseason, their favorite non-Josh Allen pick of the Brandon Beane/Sean McDermott era and Patrick getting roasted for suggesting on Twitter the Sabres should buy out Jeff Skinner after this season. Spoiler alert: This leads to a colossal Tone Pucks rant. That plus a conversation about Major League Baseball getting underway with some predictions and much more. Buffalo Bills Mock Draft, Version 1.0 (Featuring Bruce Nolan)27 Mar 202401:17:35
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, the first of what'll be five weekly Buffalo Bills mock drafts takes place and Patrick Moran is joined by one of the most highly regarded podcasters in the game, Bruce Nolan (Buffalo Rumblings) for his insights and ultimately forecast for how the draft may play out for Buffalo. Before getting into the mock draft the guys spend some time going over Bruce's evaluations of the Bills offseason as things currently stand. Bruce has given his stamp of approval to most of Brandon Beane's moves but wasn't in love with the re-signing off Taylor Rapp. He's extremely candid in explaining to Patrick exactly why. He also elaborates on if the Bills offseason moves have moved the needle for him in terms of who he'd be looking to draft positionally. The mock draft, one that should be noted does not include trades begins today and with the Bills on the clock at 28, Bruce is left with a tough decision. Highly touted and popular among Bills fans wide receiver Adonai Mitchell is on the board, yet shockingly Bruce ends up going with a guy in the trenches for the Bills first pick---and not on the side of the ball most think! Bruce explains why going to the interior of the offensive line is the right call in this situation. There's a receiver Bruce has pegged for the Bills second pick (No. 60) and sweats it out before Javon Baker ultimately falls to him. With no third round pick and trades disallowed in the mock, Bruce goes defensive interior and a second receiver in the fourth before using all three of his fifth rounds picks to add to the defense. Bruce also explains how mock drafts, although almost entirely inaccurate at the end can be an excellent thought exercise. He also trolls Miami a little at the end of the mock draft and much more. You can follow Bruce on Twitter @BruceExclusive and make sure to check out The Bruce Exclusive podcast every Thursday, part of the Buffalo Rumblings podcasting network. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Does First Round WR's Correlate To Super Bowls?26 Mar 202401:03:35
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino of Buffalo Rumbings for their weekly chat, this time focused on data Patrick's looked up that suggests that drafting wide receivers in the first round may help booster offenses but it hasn't correlated into teams winning more Super Bowls, with Anthony immediately poking holes in the theory---sort of. Of the last 15 Super Bowl champions, only five of them (one third) have had a starting wide receiver that was selected in the first round of a draft, and of those five just three actually even led their team in receiving that season. Conversely, one third (10 of 30) of those starting wide receivers featured second round selections, with another five being third round picks. Translation---teams that have won Super Bowls over the past 15 years have been chock full of day two wide receiver draft picks. The guys have plenty of thoughts on this. The more common trait in Super Bowl champions has been scoring defense. 10 of the last 15 winners have featured a scoring defense that's been in the top eight of the league. Patrick and Anthony have plenty to say about this and more specifically how it pertains to the Buffalo Bills. Speaking of, the guys discuss where they think the team is at as things currently stand more than three weeks into free agency. Are they better on paper than a lot of national media think? Has Brandon Beane done enough to send this team into the draft without a glaring need? That and plenty more today. Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings, featuring written and podcast/vidcast content pretty much daily. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Buffalo Stadium PSL Concerns & Thoughts On New Bills/Sabres COO25 Mar 202401:21:32
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens for their weekly conversation, this week heavily focused on some information coming out about PSL's for the new Buffalo Bills stadium that may concern fans as well as some thoughts on new Bills/Sabres COO Pete Guelli and the long awaited return of the Starting Five draft. The Bills are in the process of preparing to give current season ticket holders a Stadium Experience tour with the goal of selling them on wanting to obtain a PSL (personal seating license) to be able to continue to being a season ticket holder when the new stadium eventually opens. Unpopular for obvious reasons but quickly becoming commonplace with new stadiums, the guys have thoughts on PSL and how it may effect fans-----from the tough sell the Bills have to straight up pricing some out of continuing to carry season tickets. They explain with at least some details as best they can what a PSL actually means and share some speculation and guesses on what the cost of doing season ticket business with the Bills may ultimately be. They also spend some time talking about new Bills & Sabres COO Pete Guelli, who'll be tasked with tough assignments that include having a major part in the overseeing of Bills season tickets with a new stadium and trying to find ways to both improve the Key Bank Center and get fans excited about coming to hockey games again and having a better arena experience---again, easier said than done. Also, it's the return of the Starting Five draft, a fun weekly exercise Patrick once did with Joe Yerdon or more than a full year when the guys each make five draft selections on a different topic each time. In honor of it being Easter week, this time the guys are drafting Best Bunnies. That and much more. That plus some observations from a wild week around the league and much more. Fan Friday: Will Bills End Up Better On Paper?22 Mar 202400:50:38
On this Fan Friday episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran responds to several questions and takes from fans of the show primarily focused on the Buffalo Bills, including an early examination on if this team is going to end up as good or better on paper than last season. The Bills have suffered some tough losses since last season ended, including a handful of players well known around the league like Mitch Morse, Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer and Tre White. It's led to a lot of people, especially nationally concluding the Bills are no long as good and in some cases have even said their Super Bowl window is closing if not closed. Patrick takes a comment and elaborates on it to show that's not actually true, going as far as to say they've upgraded the safety and wide receiver positions, with defensive tackle depth simply being addition by subtraction. Patrick also responds to questions and statements about defensive tackle being a first-round lock, if the Bills can afford to wait until pick No. 60 to get their wide receiver and if Khalil Shakir deserves a bigger role in the offense based on how he finished last season. There's also a question on if Buffalo Sabres coach Don Granato should keep his job, Wrestlemania 40 bold predictions and much more. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. What Bills Offense Should We Expect? (Featuring Alex Brasky)21 Mar 202401:05:56
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Batavia Daily sports editor Alex Brasky to discuss the Buffalo Bills offense and what we may expect to see from it in 2024. Last season the Bills departed from being almost exclusively a team that'd see Josh Allen chuck the ball over the field from three and four wide receiver sets. The Bills ran the ball more last year and they played (a lot) more two tight end personnel. There's a belief head coach Sean McDermott will want even more packages where the Bills are bigger---whether it's two tight ends or packages that include an extra offensive lineman. Alex has thoughts on what's likely coming and if it plays to strengths of Allen or if it puts restraints on the type of quarterback he should be. Also, the guys revisit some of Patrick's biggest Bills question marks from yesterday's show and Alex has his own thoughts on them, including Stefon Diggs, Von Miller, Connor McGovern and the defensive tackle position as things currently stand. That plus some catching up with Alex personally, a little bit of Buffalo Sabres talk as the team's playoff chances have officially hit life support and more. Instant Reactions From The Bills Smackdown of Miami13 Sep 202400:56:17
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens with instant reactions just minutes following the Buffalo Bills taking the Miami Dolphins to the woodshed in their own stadium, 31-10 Thursday night at Hard Rock Stadium. Even with Terrell Bernard lost to a potential major injury earlier to add to the already walking wounded defense, Bobby Babich's defense absolutely dominated Miami and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who tossed three interceptions including a pick six to Ja'Marcus Ingram before leaving the game with a concussion after being hit by Damar Hamlin late in the third quarter. The guys happily eat some crow, talk about the Buffalo dominant defense and how the offense didn't even really matter. Also, is Miami fraudulent and in particular their head coach, Mike McDaniel. That and plenty more as Buffalo goes on the road to smack a division rival and move to 2-0 on the season. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast  YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Five Burning Bills Questions Marks (As Things Stand)20 Mar 202400:42:50
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran discusses what he feels are the five most burning question marks about the Buffalo Bills as things currently stand. In no way, shape or form is the Bills Super Bowl window closed. They remain one of the better teams in the conference and arguably by the time the NFL draft is over at the end of April, the Bills may end up looking better overall on paper than they did at this time last year. However, that doesn't mean this team is without warts and worries and Patrick tries tackling some of them, offering thoughts on if Stefon Diggs is still a legitimate number one wide receiver at 31 years old, how much Von Miller can and should be trusted with a big role on the defense and if Connor McGovern's the guy to move over to center and play the position effectively in 2024. That plus the lack of depth behind starters Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones may be the current biggest sore spot on this football team and of course, the biggest question annually will always be if Josh Allen can remain durable and reliable to stay in the lineup every week with the aggressive nature of his game. That plus the Buffalo weather sucks, a note about upcoming mock drafts on the show and more today. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast  Substack: Patrick Moran’s Substack Twitter:  @PatMoranTweets. Paying Homage To Tre White (And Other Bills Stuff)19 Mar 202401:15:54
On today’s Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in studio by friend and recurring guest Tone Pucks for their weekly chat, focused this time on paying homage to now former Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre White in addition to responding to Bills and Sabres questions and takes sent in from consumers of the show. Tre White got cut a few weeks ago on the same day as Jordan Poyer and Mitch Morse. Between that, renegotiated contracts and the beginning of free agency, Patrick feels like time was taken from this show to give Tre White the proper respect and goodbye he deserved. That changes today as the guys talk about what White meant to the Bills both on and off the field since being drafted in the first round back in 2017. He’s one of the more popular Bills in recent memory if not all time and may arguably be their best cornerback ever. The guys also have thoughts on cornerback Taron Johnson inking a three-year extension on Monday worth $31 million, making him the highest paid nickel corner in the NFL. They then respond to a handful of questions and comments sent in pertaining to both the Bills and Sabres, some positive---some not so much. That and plenty more. Has Free Agency Changed The Bills Draft Priorities?18 Mar 202401:06:38
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss, much to Joe's chagrin if Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills may end up shifting their draft priorities after signing two wide receivers within the first week of free agency, one of them to a pretty significant contract. It felt like a foregone conclusion the Bills will use their first overall pick (28) to select a wide receiver in the draft, whether they stay pat or move up/down in the draft to get one. That still very well could be the case but it doesn't feel like quite the lock it was pre-free agency after Beaned signed wide receiver Curtis Samuel to a three-year deal worth up to $30 million and $15 million guaranteed this past Thursday. Samuel is very talented but the signing was a bit odd considering he's primarily a slot receiver and the Bills got great late season production from Khalil Shakir there in 2023. The guys talk about Samuel's addition and how they seem him being used and fitting into Joe Brady's offense--with the caveat that Joe isn't nearly as high on Shakir as most. That along with the addition of Mack Hollins near the bottom part of the position depth brings up the possibility that maybe the Bills won't be drafting a wide receiver in round one anymore. One could argue and Patrick certainly does that there's no other positions that are notably bigger needs than receiver. As of this recording Buffalo has more glaring holes at defensive tackle behind Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones as well as free safety. That plus some observations from a wild week around the league and much more.
