Remembering Doug Sakmann: A Talkin' Troma Special30 Aug 202402:38:18

Doug Sakmann was a truly special individual – a valued member of the Troma Team, friend, filmmaker, and shit disturber. Doug first joined Troma as a production assistant on Citizen Toxie, working his way up to an associate producer, and then going on to produce the Troma's Edge TV series while joining the company full-time as the Head of Production, a position he held until 2002 when he left to form his own production company Backseat Conceptions, which created the Punk Rock Holocaust film series in association with the Vans Warped Tour. Doug also produced and starred in the Kabukiman's Cocktail Corner web series, and he became synonymous with Sgt. Kabukiman, having portrayed the character far more times than anyone else. In addition, Doug was also a journeyman special effects artist, having created FX for everything from music videos to commercials to video games to TV shows and feature films, including the Return to Nuke 'Em High films and Shakespeare's Shitstorm.

Doug tragically passed away on June 27, 2024 at just 43 years old. In July of 2023, we sat down with Doug for over two hours to talk about his time in Tromaville. The original intent was to use clips of the interview across various topics that we're covering on the show. In light of what's happened we've decided to air the full interview (mostly) uncut along with remembrances from some of his friends and colleagues. Please enjoy our look back with Doug on a very special episode of Talkin' Troma.

Talkin' Toxic Crusaders with Super7's Brian Flynn (Talkin' Troma Extra)29 Mar 202401:10:20

Today on a special Extra Edition of Talkin' Troma, we chat with Super7 founder and owner Brian Flynn. Super7 has been producing collectibles based on The Toxic Avenger and Toxic Crusaders for years, with its latest ULTIMATES! Glow in the Dark Radiation Ranger debuting this weekend at New York Comic-Con 2023. We chat about future plans for the toy line, his favorite character designs, Toxie's unique appeal, the culture of the toy business, and much more in this exclusive interview.

Super7 is a premier pop-culture design house and producer of lifestyle-oriented collectibles, toys and apparel based in San Francisco. Super7 has harnessed the graphics, aesthetics and energy of his youthful obsession with science fiction, giant monsters, comic books, punk rock, skateboarding, robots and rebellion to build a unique and innovative business that crosses all categories and is not bound by traditional manufacturing boundaries.

The company released their first ReAction figure based on the Toxic Avenger in 2017. Toxie made his debut as one of the very first Ultimates! figures in 2019 along with a wave of ReAction Figures based on the Toxic Crusaders. An expanded Ultimates line for Toxic Crusaders followed in 2022.

Talkin' Troma Special: Not Dead Yet! with Chris Lanphear, Liam Regan and Ben Johnson30 May 202301:38:47

Special delivery! Proof of life!

Reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated. In this special bonus episode, host Zack Beins talks with long-time member of the Troma Team (and director at Loudspeaker) Chris Lanphear about his earliest Troma memories, Tromaville.com, yacht financing, and the future of the show. We also tease some of the topics for the upcoming third season of Talkin' Troma!

Later, Zack checks in with two new Troma productions. First, writer/director Liam Regan's EATING MISS CAMPBELL, the world's first sapphic cannibal horror-comedy-love story. The film is currently making the film festival and theater rounds before an action-packed Blu-ray coming later this year.

After, we talk with director Ben Johnson about his upcoming film CURSE OF THE WERE-DEER, which producer Lloyd Kaufman calls, "Like BAMBI, but different!" The film, which is currently in post-production, stars familiar Troma favorites Nadia White, Zac Amico, and Babette Bombshell.

So as you can see, there's lots going on in Tromaville and behind-the-scenes at Talkin' Troma! Buckle up, because season 3 is just around the corner!

Macon Blair's Toxic Avenger is Loose! - A Talkin' Troma Special Report21 Jan 202500:22:24

Earlier today, Variety broke the news that distributor Cineverse (Terrifier 3) has signed a deal to distribute writer-director Macon Blair's The Toxic Avenger in theaters and streaming across North America in 2025. Filmed in 2021 in Bulgaria, the reimagining of the classic Troma film was first shown at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas in 2023 but then things went... silent. Word was that the film had trouble securing distribution. Legendary Pictures, who produced the film, remained mostly silent on its potential release until today's announcement. Host Zack Beins and Talkin' Troma correspondent Chaz Kangas break down the news and talk about a brighter, more Tromatic Tomorrow in this special report! NO SPOILERS! We also round up recent news about the upcoming Toxic Crusaders video game, the release of #ShakespearesShitstorm, TromaDance, and much more!

TT S3 E1: A Litany of Lloyd Literacy with Author Mathew Klickstein14 Feb 202501:17:50

Zack sits down with writer Mathew Klickstein as they discuss his new book, Lloyd Kaufman: Interviews, available now from University Press of Mississippi. Mathew Klickstein is a longtime multiplatform storyteller. His publications include SLIMED! TT S3 E5: Four-Color Mutants with Matt Bors, Writer of The Toxic Avenger and Toxic Crusaders Comics12 Sep 202500:31:38

Throughout history, we've seen some truly iconic team-ups: peanut butter and jelly, Ren and Stimpy, Batman and Robin. But one partnership you might not immediately think of—yet one that's just as important—is the bond between Troma and comic books.

Troma co-founder and Toxie's cinematic dad, Lloyd Kaufman, was close friends with Marvel's legendary Stan Lee—the father of Spider-Man himself. So it only made sense that in the 1990s, Marvel Comics brought Tromaville into the four-color world, publishing eleven issues of The Toxic Avenger and eight issues of The Toxic Crusaders. Both titles were canceled around the same time as the Toxic Crusaders animated series was not picked up for a second season.

Which brings us to today's special guest: Matt Bors. Matt is a Pulitzer Prize finalist, the founder of the comics site The Nib, and an award-winning writer and cartoonist known for his sharp wit and social commentary. Now, he's turned his talents toward Tromaville, writing The Toxic Avenger and Toxic Crusaders for AHOY Comics, which are both out now in comic shops and bookstores everywhere.

Enjoy our exclusive interview with Matt Bors, recorded live at San Diego Comic-Con!
