| Rangers Scramble After Jake Burger Injury: Who’s on First Now? | 18 Jul 2025 | 00:18:38 | |
The second half of the season hasn’t even started, and the Texas Rangers are already facing a major lineup headache. Jake Burger is back on the injured list after jamming his left quad just before the All-Star break, and the front office in Arlington seems uncertain about who will step up in his absence. With Burger sidelined until at least July 23, the real question isn't how much they'll miss his bat—he's been hitting just .228 with 11 home runs—but how they'll plug the hole at first base without breaking their defensive structure. In this episode, we break down the Rangers’ limited internal options, including a potential Josh Smith/Ezekiel Duran platoon, plus the possibility of shuffling Josh Jung or calling up Blaine Crim. We also explore the wildcard: newly-signed Rowdy Tellez, who’s quietly waiting in the wings with a minor league deal. Who’s going to man first base, and what kind of ripple effect will it have across the infield? Each of these players has shown promise at various levels, but are now facing the make-or-break moment in their careers. Is Foscue blocked by a crowded infield? Can Teodo overcome control issues and arm trouble? Will Santos ever conquer Double-A Frisco and take that next step? | Rangers Bullpen Struggle against New York Yankees | 23 May 2025 | 00:12:45
The Texas Rangers looked like they were finally about to break out against the Yankees on Wednesday night—Jake Burger crushed two homers, Sam Haggerty added one of his own, and Jacob DeGrom was dealing. But it all fell apart late. The bullpen imploded, again. Luke Jackson surrendered a game-tying single to Aaron Judge, then a brutal walk-off homer to Jasson Dominguez. | Texas Rangers Making Final Preparations for Opening Day 2025 | 21 Mar 2025 | 00:25:49
It’s official. The Rangers have their 2025 Opening Day starter in right-hander Nathan Eovaldi! In this episode, we break down why this decision felt locked in ever since manager Bruce Bochy hinted that Jacob deGrom would start from the back of the rotation. We’ll also dig into what this means for the franchise, as Eovaldi becomes the first Rangers pitcher in 15 years to start consecutive Opening Days—something last accomplished by Kevin Millwood back in 2009. We’ll explore the revolving door of Opening Day arms Texas has seen since 2010—big names like Cole Hamels, Yu Darvish, and Mike Minor—and discuss Eovaldi’s track record (and spring training struggles) as he prepares for the March 27 opener at home in Arlington. Plus, we’ll touch on the injuries to Cody Bradford and Jon Gray that have impacted the rotation, and speculate on Boston’s likely starters, Walker Buehler or Garrett Crochet. | Time to Trade Away Jack Leiter | 14 Mar 2025 | 00:20:08
In this episode, we explore the Texas Rangers’ urgent push to win—and how Jack Leiter’s progress might shape the team’s path forward. They’ve got aging stars like Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Jacob deGrom, and Nathan Eovaldi who are looking to strike while the iron’s hot. Meanwhile, Leiter’s minor league track record is concerning, but he’s shown flashes of brilliance this spring with a 2.25 ERA and improved pitching repertoire. We dig into why trading Leiter might be a bold yet necessary move. Could flipping him for a proven arm like Sandy Alcantara (fresh off Tommy John and already hitting 100 mph) elevate the Rangers into a legitimate championship threat? Or does sticking with Leiter for the long haul offer a better payoff? Join us as we unpack the pros and cons of dealing away a former No. 2 overall pick alongside top prospects like Alejandro Osuna and Cameron Cauley—all in the name of securing a World Series–ready rotation. We’ll look at what this trade would mean for the team’s future, how it could reshape the roster, and why these pivotal decisions matter in a win-now environment. Tune in to find out if the Rangers should go all-in for Alcantara or stand by Jack Leiter to become the next cornerstone of their rotation. | Rangers Back to the Drawing Board Following Disastrous Season | 07 Nov 2025 | 00:21:13
The Texas Rangers are heading into a major rebuild. Pitching coach Mike Maddux, who helped guide Texas to three World Series appearances and their first championship in 2023, is leaving to join the division-rival Los Angeles Angels under new manager Kurt Suzuki. Maddux’s departure leaves a massive hole in a staff that led MLB with a 3.47 ERA in 2025. With 12 free agents, bullpen uncertainty, and roster decisions looming, the Rangers’ offseason just got a lot tougher. We break down what Maddux’s exit means for Texas’ pitching staff, who could replace him, and how the team plans to rebuild around deGrom, Eovaldi, Mahle, and Leiter heading into 2026. | Rangers Making Moves this Winter | 20 Dec 2024 | 00:16:57
The Texas Rangers entered this offseason facing a severe bullpen shortage after numerous relievers departed in free agency. While familiar names like José Leclerc, Kirby Yates, José Ureña, and David Robertson remain on the market, none have been seriously linked to a return to Arlington. But on Wednesday, FanSided’s Robert Murray reported that the Rangers took their first step in rebuilding the ‘pen by signing reliever Jacob Webb to a one-year deal. In this video, we break down what Webb brings to the table. We’ll cover his recent performance with the Baltimore Orioles, where he consistently delivered better-than-league-average results. His pitching arsenal—featuring a four-seam fastball, sweeper, and changeup—kept hitters off balance, with some pitches limiting opponents to a batting average as low as .125. This move is the latest in a flurry of transactions by the Rangers, who just added Nathan Eovaldi and pulled off a surprise trade for Jake Burger. Clearly, the organization isn’t satisfied with their 78-win 2024 season and is determined to improve. While the bullpen rebuild isn’t complete, adding Webb is an encouraging first step toward stabilizing a unit that ended last season near the bottom of the league in ERA. Stay tuned as we discuss what’s next for the Rangers and how they can continue to strengthen their bullpen heading into 2025. | Texas Rangers Leave Winter Meetings With Nothing | 13 Dec 2023 | 00:19:16
In this insightful episode, we delve into the Texas Rangers' offseason strategy amidst financial uncertainties. Fresh off their euphoric first World Series win, a significant achievement capping 52 years of effort, the Rangers are now facing a challenging offseason ahead of the 2024 season. The episode explores the Rangers' cautious approach in building their roster, contrasting it with the aggressive moves of teams like the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays. We discuss the Rangers' sole major signing so far - reliever Kirby Yates for one year at $4.5 million - and their hesitancy to make further big moves. Ken Rosenthal's insights on the Athletic suggest the Rangers are considering two paths: possibly retaining Clayton Kershaw or exploring second-tier free-agent starters like Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas, or Michael Wacha. A key factor in their restrained approach is the looming "financial uncertainty," mainly due to the potential loss of the media rights deal with Bally Sports. This episode examines the implications of these financial challenges and how they're shaping the Rangers' strategy for constructing their 2024 roster Sponsor: Gametime: https://gametime.hnyj8s.net/c/2653816/742962/10874 Follow Us on Social Media: Facebook www.facebook.com/talkintexasrangers Twitter: https://twitter.com/talkintxrangers Support the Show: Buy Me a Coffee: http://www.buymeacoffee.com/ttrangers Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/talkin-texas-rangers/donations

| Resigning Jordan Montgomery will Cost The Rangers Something | 23 Nov 2023 | 00:18:52 | |
The news came out on Sunday morning just before the NFL games that Aaron Nola will be returning to Philadelphia for the long term. The 30-year-old right-hander agreed to seven-year contract worth $172 million. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Nola met with other teams and turned down more money to stay in Philadelphia. He chose to stay with a team that was in the World Series in 2022 and a win away from making it back to the World Series in 2023. This choice by Nola could lead to a certain free-agent left-hander also choosing to stay with the team that he finished the season with. Now that Texas has an idea of what Montgomery is worth on the free agent market would it be smart to bring him back for those years and at that cost?
