Leading When It’s Hard: EQ in High-Stress Moments | Season 6 Ep. 219 févr. 202600:26:43

Send us Fan Mail

Pressure doesn’t wait for a free afternoon. It shows up in the middle of a deadline, a hard conversation, or a messy team moment—and that’s where leadership is proven. We go straight at the heart of it: emotional labor, stress, and the emotional intelligence skills that help you regulate instead of react.

We start by naming emotional labor—the often invisible work leaders do to manage their own feelings while holding space for everyone else’s. From there, we dig into co-regulation and why one person’s panic or calm can shift a whole room. We connect Daniel Goleman’s four EQ domains to practical moves you can use in real time: notice your signals, ground your body, read the room, and protect trust through tone, timing, and clarity.

If you’re ready to turn stressful moments into proof points of your culture, this conversation will give you language, tools, and confidence to lead with steadiness. Subscribe, share this with a manager who’s carrying a lot right now, and leave a review to tell us which calm-down cue you’ll try next.

And for deeper practice, use code EI20 for 20% off our emotional intelligence course.

Who's Got Your Back? The Art of Building Your Success Squad Season 5 | Ep. 328 avr. 202500:54:00

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY

In this illuminating conversation with corporate law powerhouse Heather Barnhouse, we unpack the vital roles that mentorship and networking play in advancing women's careers and leadership journeys.

Mentorship and networking play crucial roles in advancing women's leadership, requiring a diverse "success circle" rather than relying on just one or two connections.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Understanding the concept of a success circle with nine different supporter types
• Recognizing mentorship isn't one-size-fits-all but requires customization
• Appreciating the distinction between mentorship (guidance) and sponsorship (advocacy)
• Building connections organically rather than forcing formal mentorship relationships
• Finding mentors outside your profession who bring fresh perspectives
• Learning from difficult relationships what doesn't work for you
• Taking a broad view of networking beyond traditional professional settings
• Resisting overthinking and starting with "low-hanging fruit" networking opportunities
• Asking specific questions rather than making general requests
• Making relationship-building a consistent priority, not just an occasional activity

Think about what room you'd like to have access to, what you'll do to gain that access, and what one question you'd ask someone in that room.

Managing the Process of Change Season 4 | Ep. 223 févr. 202400:46:42

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
Describe your personal experience with change in one sentence or less. Can you do it? Not so easy is it!? We kick off the episode by reflecting on this question to situate ourselves and our mindsets as we consider the change management process.

In this episode, we break down the change management process into its key phases and explore real-world examples to illustrate each phase and its significance. We also introduce various change management models and frameworks (e.g., ADKAR, Kotter's 8-Step Model) and discuss the pros and cons of different approaches.

We reflect on the development of our change management model and talk about the importance of simplicity. Sinogap Solutions Change Management Model has 3 stages: 1) current state (what is and isn’t working), roadmap (how do we engage people and processes to move towards the desired future state), and future state (where do we want or need to be/go). We also share the importance of crafting a vision statement to help articulate the need for change and desired outcome to inform and build awareness in others: “Because of (issue/challenge/need) a (change initiative) is needed to see (desired outcome)”.

SUMMARY

In the sixth episode of season 3 of Tackle Tuesday podcast, we explore part two of responding to challenges. Specifically, we talk about difficult conversations.

The episode focuses on the science of mindfulness and encourages listeners to consider the effects of simply taking a few breaths before beginning a difficult conversation. When we are in a highly stressed state, the part of our brain responsible for rational thinking is impaired and may impact how we respond to conflict. Changing the rhythm of your breath can signal relaxation and help you refocus.

Connecting With Others Part 2 | Season 3 | Ep. 412 févr. 202300:31:50

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY

In the fourth episode of this season of the Tackle Tuesday podcast, we explore part two of how to connect with others. Specifically, we will talk about psychological safety and the differences between diversity hiring and diversity hire.

When discussing psychological safety – we talk about what it is and how to build it with the teams you work with. We also reflect on how psychologically safe are the teams you work with? Why is it sometimes hard to achieve psychological safety? What does the research say around how to foster psychological safety in the workplace and why does it matter? These questions are tackled in the episode!

What is the difference between diversity hiring and a diversity hire? This episode explores both concepts in addition to how our implicit biases may affect how we recruit and promote diverse talent within our teams. This is why we have to implement a thoughtful diversity and inclusion strategy (diversity hiring) and consider the value that metrics and measures may add to capture progress and gaps, rather than simply quotas to check a box (diversity hire). Personal and organizational examples are provided which made for an interesting discussion on hiring practices and highlighted the importance of ongoing support and inclusion practices. Intro to Creating Brave Spaces | Season 3 | Ep. 109 oct. 202200:41:52

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY

We are thrilled to launch our third season of Tackle Tuesday! This season, we will be exploring the topic of “Creating Brave Spaces” and how leaders can facilitate difficult conversations, work through conflict, and foster psychological safety. We will be exploring research and theory, sharing personal experiences, and providing leaders with practical steps in fostering a brave space.

In the first episode, Katie Allan and I unpack the term “safe space” and the reality that we mainly function in brave spaces, not safe spaces. A safe space is when there is 100% trust, you can open your mouth and say anything, and the concern that you will be judged negatively and lose credibility is minimal to nonexistent.

It promises to be an enriching learning journey. Be sure to listen this season.

Love as a Business Strategy | Season 2 | Ep. 428 déc. 202100:55:09

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
In this month’s episode, I hosted a round table style interview with Mohammad Anwar and Jeff Ma, senior leaders at Softway Solutions a software tech company and co-authors of the bestselling book, Love as a Business Strategy.

Mohammad and Jeff shared that after years of continued growth and success the company reached a point where their aggressive growth strategies failed them, and they began to lose clients and profits in an almost fatal downward spiral.

After rethinking their business culture and hoping to reverse the downward trend, they were inspired upon Mohammad hearing a football coach who used love as a strategy to help support the whole team. Mohammad was astonished that the team embraced love in this way and began to make small changes to shift the culture at Softway to put love at the heart of the business.

Listen in to discover Softway Solution’s Platinum Rule and how empathy has been the necessary element to increased diversity and inclusion in their teams.

SUMMARY
On this month's episode of Tackle Tuesday, I invited professional speaker Jeff A.D. Martin onto the show to talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Jeff is familiar with loss and hardship due to the tragic death of his cousin Omar, who was killed in 2005. Today, he is a community advocate who provides programs on self-worth, leadership, diversity, and inclusion.

Jeff and I discussed how you can foster an inclusive atmosphere in the workplace, beginning with active listening and empathy.

Woman Up! | Season 2 | Ep. 226 oct. 202100:43:23

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY

Over the last year and a half, women have made important strides in gaining representation in senior leadership, but the pandemic continues to take a toll as women are significantly more burned out than their male counterparts.

In this month’s episode of Tackle Tuesday, I discuss some of the challenges I faced as a female leader in a male dominated industry and how that led me to designing the Woman Up! program.

I also discuss the confidence gap and imposter syndrome theories and why I believe these theories create more challenges for women seeking entry into leadership positions.

I have experienced lack of confidence throughout the years, even with the launching of Woman Up, but my stepson recently reminded me how important it is to be a role-model and woman up myself. So that is what I am doing!

I hope you enjoy this month’s episode and the personal stories I share.

Ep. 22 | Radical Acceptance 01 juin 202100:46:31

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY

For this week’s Tackle Tuesday episode, I was joined by Life & Wellness Coach and Yoga & Meditation Instructor, Elyse Cathrea. Elyse helps folks go from feeling disconnected and stuck, frustrated in life, wondering things like “is this what it’s supposed to be like” to feeling excited about creating a life they are connected to. Through yoga and mindfulness Elyse helps clients reconnect to their bodies and themselves in order to build a life they love.

In this episode we dove into the concept of radical acceptance and how to ground your feelings through coming home to yourself. We discussed how important it is to allow ourselves the opportunity to feel all of our feelings, accept them, and them use them to make us stronger and happier.

Our conversation had lots of eye-opening moments for me, and I have no doubt it will be the same for you.

For this week’s Tackle Tuesday episode, I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Dan Edds who is the CEO of Praxis Solutions, a management consulting firm.

Dan is the author of Leveraging the Genetics of Leadership - Cracking the Code of Sustainable Team Performance. Dan’s book reveals a new approach to leadership development, which some have called revolutionary.

I have read his book and I can attest that it is definitely an amazing book!

During our conversation we explore and tackle how important love is, yes you read that right, love is in creating cohesive and inclusive teams.

I have no doubt this episode will get you thinking about what leadership is, and new methods of developing your leaders in a very different and revolutionary way.

Ep. 18: Replaceable16 mars 202100:46:34

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
Succession planning involves having the right people at the right time to fill critical positions in your organization, but yet many organizations don’t have a succession management process in place.

From my experience, I have witnessed organizational cultures degenerate to toxic levels because when the CEO left, they took their workplace culture with them. They didn’t think about or plan for a successor, which left the organization exposed to incompetent leadership.

Succession planning doesn’t have to be a complex and multi-layered process. Even the simplest design can have a positive return for a company. This week’s Tackle Tuesday episode focuses on just that!

Beth Armknecht Miller, CEO of Executive Velocity, and I discussed how to build leadership pipelines that are integrated into a succession management process that will ensure your company can fill critical positions at the right time to ensure strategic outcomes are achieved.

Ep. 17 Finding Resilience in Darkness02 mars 202100:39:52

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
For this week’s episode I had the opportunity to interview Christina Eanes, a former FBI violent crime analyst and senior manager. Christina is on a mission to help others achieve more in life – mainly by getting out of their own way.

In the past, I have openly shared my struggles as a new entrepreneur and how important it has been to develop my resiliency. That is why I was so excited to have Christina on my podcast. Christina has a unique take on how to develop resiliency in self and others – through escape rooms. Christina quickly discovered that the skills necessary to work through an escape room translated well into being successful in life and becoming better human beings.

We talked about what an escapelete is and how someone can use escape rooms to develop a grit and growth mindset.

If you are seeking support in shifting how you perceive and experience life’s challenges, you have to listen to this week’s Tackle Tuesday. I have no doubt you will want to sign up for an escape room experience and put your new learnings to the test!

Ep. 16 Finding Your Purpose16 févr. 202100:54:45

SUMMARY
One of the most positive experiences I had in 2020 was launching my podcast. It gave me an opportunity to meet with amazing thought leaders, executives, authors, and coaches who have dedicated their life to unlocking the human potential. That is why I was excited to interview Julian Roberts for this week’s Tackle Tuesday episode. Julian is an ICF trained Executive and Leadership Coach who loves working with people and watching them achieve what they can’t yet see, but deep down really want.

Although many people say they want to be happy and live a meaningful life, evidence shows us this is not the reality for many of us. That is why my campaign, Leading with Heart – Ignite Your Inner Purpose, is focused on helping others develop a clear vision of their authentic self through the discovery of their purpose. So, when I interviewed Julian, I knew our conversation would not only ring true to me, but to many others as well.

Julian and I discuss how to develop a clear understanding of your purpose and the steps you need to take to discover your path for continuous growth. Julian also discusses how to develop the intrinsic motivation necessary to sustain yourself during the most challenging moments in your life.

SUMMARY
In this week’s episode, I interviewed Dr. Robert Barrett and Dr. Louis Francescutti, who are the authors of Hardwired: How Our Instincts to be Healthy are Making Us Sick.

The book focuses on how as a human species we have evolved to survive, but in our modern world our survival instincts have created a health paradox. The things that are meant to keep us alive are in fact killing us. For the first time in thousand years, Americans are experiencing a reversal in lifespan.

Ep. 13 Moving from a Culture of Compliance to a Culture of Commitment15 déc. 202000:48:03

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
For this week’s episode I had the opportunity to interview Sheri Benson, who is the principal owner of Thrive Safety Consulting. From the beginning of her career, she believed strongly that a thriving health and safety system requires strong leadership, a clear culture, and the trust in management that comes from consistent support and development of employees.

We had our conversation in October, but many of the concepts we discuss are especially relevant to what we are experiencing today as we are now in the second phase of closures and restrictions. Our conversation went beyond what safety is, we discussed…

  • What do you do when your values no longer align with your organization’s?
  • What it was like to launch her own business?

But my favourite part of our conversation was when we discussed how to change a company culture that is focused on compliance, towards creating a culture of commitment.

SUMMARY
What is transformational leadership versus transactional leadership?

How do you measure employee productivity?

How does leadership influence productivity?

These are the questions I explore and answer in today’s Tackle Tuesday episode.

I have received so many questions on this topic that I thought it would be best to answer them in one of my episodes. This conversation is the first part of a two-part series.

In the first part we explore the balancing act managers play when trying to meet the needs of their organization with the needs of their employees and how we should be measuring employee productivity.

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
This week I had the opportunity to interview Paula Campkin, Vice-President of the Safety Centre of Excellence for Energy Safety Canada.

Paula shares her experience as to what it is like to work in a male dominated industry, the challenges she faced and how she overcame them. Paula identified there was a gap, other women were experiencing it too, so she did something about it! Paula co-founded the Women in Occupational Health & Safety Society (WOHSS), an organization with the mission to foster the advancement of women working in health and safety in Canada, to build better futures for women in OH&S. WOHSS is dedicated to support, educate, and help facilitate the advancement of women in the Health and Safety field.

Paula openly talks about some of the sexism she experienced and the things she did to create awareness in her male colleagues that certain behaviours are not acceptable! This is a great episode for women and men alike. We discuss how men can become authentic allies in the movement towards eliminating the leadership gender gap.

SUMMARY:
Brenden is the founder of MasterTalk, a YouTube channel he started to help the world master the art of public speaking and communication. He coaches purpose driven entrepreneurs on how to master their message and share their ideas with the world.

When I met with Brenden, I thought our conversation would focus mostly on the skills and confidence to master the art of public speaking, but in actuality what we discussed went a lot deeper than that.

Brenden explains how our ability to be successful in our relationships and our businesses is grounded in our ability to communicate. Brenden also provides tangible actions we can all take to start improving our communication skills today.

I learned so much from my short conversation with Brenden, as I am sure you will too. I hope you enjoy this week’s Tackle Tuesday episode.

SUMMARY
As more women enter the workforce and into formal leadership positions, we find ourselves searching for a way to lead that is authentic to our true selves.

Authentic means to live your life according to the needs of our inner being, rather than the demands placed on us by someone else. Your authentic approach to leading yourself and others has to align with your passion and purpose.

In my interview my interview with Emily Lopez, Global Head of Talent Strategy and Development at ConocoPhillips, she shares her career journey and the discoveries she made along the way in regards to embracing her strengths and using them to help others, inside and outside her organization.

Special Segment Taco Tuesday: Ep. 6 The Tale of Two Pandemics 22 sept. 202000:45:31

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
This is our first episode in our special segment series, Taco Tuesday. Taco Tuesday is devoted to highlighting women in business and their efforts and achievements in creating inclusive and equitable societies.

When reviewing stats on where the world is at with gender parity, we can see that no single society has achieved total equality between women and men. And although, women are increasingly entering the workforce, gender inequality still exists. It exists in our pay, in leadership positions, funding for new ventures, and mentoring opportunities.

My guest today, Christine Channer Auguste, is all too familiar with gender and racial inequities. In spite of those challenges, Christine has achieved over 15 years of success in a variety of industries. Christine shares her experiencers in the corporate world and what led her to move from employee to CEO. Christine’s resilience, belief in herself and ability to pivot, will be inspirational to both women and men alike.

SPECIAL THANKS
I would like to give special thanks to my stepdaughter, Emily Nash, who came up with the idea of Taco Tuesday and inspired me to launch it! The series is dedicated to her.

Ep. 5: How One Police Service Modernized Recruiting with Mentoring08 sept. 202000:38:01

Send us Fan Mail

SUMMARY
In response to the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements, we have seen a number of organizations rushing to tick the “Diversity & Inclusion” box, which mostly encompasses unconscious bias training. But when diversity and inclusion strategies do not go beyond basic compliance training, we miss an opportunity to truly to assess how diverse groups may experience our policies, programs, products, and services. The only way we can uncover inequities is to ensure we include diverse perspectives into our decision-making.

But many organizations still struggle in figuring out how to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion within their systems and processes. One organization that has successfully integrated D&I into their recruitment strategy, is the Edmonton Police Service, which saw a 61% increase in women recruits and a 118% increase in diversity overall. And one way they accomplished this was with their Recruit Mentoring Academy, which is the only one of its kind in North America!

SUMMARY
Bringing someone in to simply fill a job isn’t enough. The contributions made by an employee's skills and experience will only get your organization so far.

By developing a strong workplace culture, which involves knowing and communicating your company's vision and values, will help you achieve success in two bottom lines: people and profits!

In this week’s episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Corina Ludwig, President of FunctionFox, where she shared six steps for achieving a strong workplace culture despite working in different industries on different continents and during challenging times.
