Is This the Future of Race Events? - The English Riviera Championships - with Brendon Prince and Sarah Thornely
Saison 7 · Épisode 119
lundi 19 août 2024 • Durée 37:51
In this episode we discuss an innovative new direction for race events ahead of the first ever English Riviera Championships (SUPER Champs) in Torbay, UK, kicking off September 27th, 28th and 29th.
You can watch this episode on YouTube HERE
Building on the huge recreational growth of the sport, this event is designed as an opportunity to introduce first time and new paddlers to racing while also showcasing the top level distance and technical events and athletes.
The event reintroduces the much loved (and missed) one design racing, features SUP sprints in the stunning and sheltered harbour, as well as a platform for the exciting and entertaining SUP Polo.
The SUPER Championships also serve as a 'SUP Expo' with all leading SUP and accessory brands present, with experts and advice on hand whatever your level or need.
**And if you're coming from Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can enter for free**
With Brendon Prince and Sarah Thornely, we discuss this exciting opportunity for converting leisure paddlers towards different flavours of the sport, with the intention to build their current casual pastime into a lifelong commitment rather than a just post-covid fashion.

vendredi 17 avril 2020 • Durée 37:22
NOTE: We mention the 11 Cities SUP Tour which is actually 220km - more info here: https://www.sup11citytour.com/ Our podcast was with Ike Franz https://www.supfm.show/episode/11-cities-sup-tour-in-the-netherlands-ike-franz
It's fantastic to see the growth of the sport since we last recorded back in 2015. Simon has moved on and lets us know about what's going on in his life regarding stand up paddle. Nick updates us on what happened to Algarve SUP (his stand up paddle touring company down in Portugal), the Guadiana Challenge (the yearly 32km paddle along the Spanish / Portuguese border).
Getting this podcast back online has certainly inspired Nick to get back out and plan a few more expeditions. He talks about two of his previous trips.
Stick around for a new episode each week. Next week Nick interviews Bertrand van der Berg who, along with his team, were the first people to stand up paddle the Zambezi rapids that boil over massive ledges in the Batoka River Gorge just below Zimbabwe's famed Victoria Falls. Exciting trip!

Season One Review – Stand Up Paddle FM
Saison 1 · Épisode 17
vendredi 24 juillet 2015 • Durée 32:20
This week Nick and Simon review season one in advance of the September return of SUPfm series two.
This episode is sponsored by the National Watersports Festival 2015. Every year the UK resort of Hayling Island is given over to a weekend of SUP, windsurf and kite surfing. It’s a time for racing, fun events and partying by the sea. This year SUP takes it’s place squarely and firmly alongside it’s older sporting cousins, with a number of new events and all the top brands displaying their 2016 range for three days of serious stand up paddle action.
Nick and Simon review the episodes and guests who appeared in the first season of SUPfm.
- We start the review with Dave from Roatan Watersports in Honduras who discussed hammock technique.
- Tati Coco SUP is an explorer and teacher with a SUP enthusiasm which is hugely infectious.
- Susanne Lier is a European racer, coach, SUP entrepreneur and tells it how it is.
- Chase Kosterlitz talks about life in the train and the reality of being a top SUP athlete
- Anthony Heukmes spills the beans about SUP Trotters the stand up paddle equivalent of map my run
- Tez Plavenieks talks about stand up paddle board selection
- Charlie Howden for Expedition of the year here. This interview episode was the inspirational highlight of our first season.

Get fit with Jodelle Fitzwater
Saison 1 · Épisode 16
vendredi 17 juillet 2015 • Durée 40:42
This week Nick chats with real-life mermaid Jodelle who is based in the mid west, USA. Addicted to water since a young age, Jodelle had an instant connection to stand up paddling from the second that she first stepped onto a board.
Jodelle was a personal trainer and into nutrition and exercise as a way to optimise health and quickly recognised stand up paddle as the perfect vehicle to provide ”vitamin P” for people’s lives.
Jodelle is sponsored by BIC after being talent spotted by the company and is known for developing the Stand Up Paddle TV video series on Youtube. In this interview Jodelle chats about:
- “vitamin P”
- adventure paddle,
- Paddlefit,
- yoga,
- the SUP industry
- and for good measure gives us some bonus recipes for some great snacks to take on a SUP trip
Jodelle’s Energy Balls
- Macadamia, almond or coconut butter
- Half cup of oats
- Scoop of whey protein powder
- cacao nibs or raisins
Melt the butter & mix with the oats. Mix in the protein powder and finish off with cacao nibs or raisins. Mix thoroughly and mould into balls and keep in a baggie to pop in your mouth when you need an energy boost.
Jodelle’s Recovery DrinkYou don’t have to buy a specialist sports drink, instead make your own. Take a bottle of water, add a teaspoon of baking soda, two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and sweeten with stevia or honey.

Kai Lenny, Stand Up Paddle SUPer Hero
Saison 1 · Épisode 15
vendredi 10 juillet 2015 • Durée 30:23
This week Nick chats with three time World Champion stand up paddler Kai Lenny. Kai is a down to earth guy despite growing up at the centre of the surfing world at his home in Hawaii. All the greats, Laird Hamilton, Dave Kalama and Robby Naish would stop by his house on a Friday for a barbecue with his dad. One day (when he was 16 years old) they invited him to foil surf at Jaws.
He’s paddled Molokai seven times, won three stand up paddle world titles, surfed Jaws when it’s huge. He is right up there with the best, at whatever water sport he is taking part in. Kai talks about his training, his mentors and the attention given to his confrontation with Connor Baxter at the BOP 2014
The wonderful thing about talking with Kai Lenny is that he is clearly grateful for what he has achieved and is proud to share the love of his sport with whoever he meets. It’s also great to see him taking time out to meet and inspire the local kids wherever he paddles.
Kai Lenny has created the Positively Kai Foundation which promotes ocean safety and youth development education. It’s a great commitment to the community with an objective to set up training clinics to introduce kids to water sports wherever they are.
The chat ended early due to some Skype problems, but we hope you’ll enjoy listening to one of the sport’s top talents, because we really enjoyed talking to him.
We talked briefly about his time surfing Jaws. This video takes you with him as he glides down the face of one of the world’s most powerful forces.
