Before going into full-time leadership work, Jamy served for 20 years as a college basketball coach and high school athletic director.  When he left his last college to become an athletic director, he was the winningest coach in program history.  His 2014 team earned the national "Champions of Character" award.  As an athletic director, he transformed the athletic department, instituting budgeting processes, student-athlete leadership training, and innovative marketing strategies that were featured in Athletic Management magazine. He supervised the 5th largest high school gymnasium in the country and oversaw the boys basketball team winning their 8th state championship (most in Indiana history). This interview is from Father's Day Weekend 2022. We never intended for this episode to be released on our audio network as it was a live interview on YouTube but with our guest having such a great football season, we thought we'd release it today. Jason Candle is the coach of the University of Toledo football team and this year they won the Mid-American Conference Championship and defeated Liberty in the Boca Raton Bowl. We ran into Coach Candle back in June at the Fatherhood Festival at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He had brought his leadership council to help out with the event. The interview took place outside with a lot of other things going on around us but the insights are still good and I think you'll get a sense as to one of the reasons Toledo football had the season that they did. University of Toledo football coach Jason Candle sat down with the "Success is a Choice" podcast host Jamy Bechler at the Fatherhood Festival. This event took place at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on Father's Day weekend 2022.

Coach Candle has won more than 60% of his game since taking over the reins of the Rocket program in 2015. He brought his player leadership council to the event as volunteers. This was a homecoming of sorts for Candle as he played on two NCAA Division III National Championship teams as a Wide Receiver at nearby Mount Union College.

Some of the athletes in attendance at this event included Anthony Munoz, Mike Singletary, Ben Garland, Ed McCaffrey, Christian McCaffrey, David Tyree, and Shaun Alexander. Some of the event's organizers included Justin Blatt, Michael Munoz, Darrin Gray, and Rachel Joy Baribeau.

Bill Curry has been the head football coach at Alabama, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, and Georgia State. He was a 2x SEC Coach of the Year, ACC Coach of the Year, as well as the National Coach of the Year in 1989 for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Before embarking upon a coaching career, he played 10 years in the NFL as a Center. He played in Super Bowls I, III, and V, winning two Super Bowl rings with the Packers and the Colts.
