On Totemo's Street Art Collector this week, Steph sits down with Swedish-born, Toyko-based artist and teacher Kristoffer "Krs" Kullengren, who began his painting path in the digital realm before spreading his colourful, playful style into the physical world as well. | Ep 7. Reaching Your NFT Audience w/ Tom Gerrard | 24 Jan 2023 | 00:15:47
On this episode, Steph sits down with street and contemporary artist Tom Gerrard, talking specifically to street artists about the opportunities available in the NFT space and giving practical information on how to get into it. Today, we discuss Reaching Your NFT Audience. This alone is a huge deterrent for artists. You've spent years carefully curating your Instagram, getting into Reels and building your community and now the NFT crowd lives over on Discord and Twitter. Thankfully, doing the must-dos for the platforms is no way to be an artist, NFTs or not. Tom and I talked today about reaching your audience in the NFT space. Refreshingly, Tom's philosophy is that it all starts with the art. The platforms are secondary if you're producing work you love and actively engaging (wherever you want to engage) with your peers and fans. Tom Gerrard online:

Where you set your pricing at the start will be visible forever in the future. What's more, with all the possibilities of NFTs, price is but one factor in actually selling NFTs. For 29 years, Yesca has been painting his letters and characters everywhere he travels, never mixing his graffiti with his commercial endeavours. Yesca's philosophy is that graffiti should be illegal and on the street. Once it hits a canvas or NFT, can it really be called graffiti? As he is an artist who's also producing canvases and NFTs, I wanted to know what that looks like, expressing the form you love the most while making something unique to the different mediums. Today, we start at the beginning: Translating Street Art to NFTs. If you've listened to a few episodes of this podcast, you've no doubt heard artists talk about how they've repurposed photos, paintings or digital artworks to start their venture in the NFT world. This is exactly what Tom did, and as soon as he found quick success, he was straight onto his friends to share just how simple that process actually was. | #23 - Vidam: Not yet buying the hype | 22 Nov 2022 | 00:35:40
Vidam is a Berlin-based visual artist and illustrator, painting crazy characters in funny scenes with a distinct, colourful aesthetic with sharp angles and straight lines. Always drawing in his young years, Vidam studied graphic design in Berlin, where he met graffiti artists and fell into a world exploring abandoned buildings, developing his spraypaint skills and ultimately creating the artistic life that he lives today. After some 18 years, Vidam has done just about everything. He's exhibited around the world, run his own design agency, painted murals all over and started minting his first NFTs. Interestingly, though, unlike many of the people I talk to, Vidam is not so sold on the art NFT concept. He'd choose a print from his favourite artists any day, and after minting a few of his own NFTs, he's more interested in the utilities of NFTs rather than NFTs as art. On this episode, we speak about his career to date, his digital illustrations turned NFTs, and his thoughts on the scene so far. Vidam online:

| #22 - Ania Pilipenko (Metawalls.io): Street art meets the Metaverse | 15 Nov 2022 | 00:44:36 | |
Ania Pilipenko is the Founder and CEO of Metawalls.io, an NFT platform bringing Berlin's street art to the Metaverse. Metawalls is a very cool company, the first-ever to bring street art into the Metaverse, displaying Berlin's real street art pieces to walls in an open-air space online. But, as we discuss, there's also a helluva lot more to it than that. Blossoming out of the lockdown, the original focus was to bring Berlin's walls to the international community that missed them so dearly when cut off from travel. Once launched, however, it has transformed into an ecosystem for artists, collectors and street art fans to participate in the development of street art projects and culture. On this episode, we discuss the Metaverse and what Metawalls.io, beyond its virtual land, is doing to give artists more financial independence, fundraising abilities, and opportunities to put more art on the physical streets. In their debut international duo exhibition and NFT launch, Jodee and Creon join forces for an epic blending of styles, where Creon's meaningful, dark exploration of pop art juxtaposes the big-eyed, deeply emotive fantastical characters iconic in Jodee's work. Having had Jodee on the podcast earlier this year, new to the concept of NFTs, this was an exciting chance to bring her and Creon back on, moments before launching their NFT project, to discuss how it's been developing their knowledge in these months and the rave reviews they see already from collectors eager to snap up their NFTs. On this episode, we discuss the show, how the team work in tandem and their experience bringing their work to the digital realm in collaboration with their animator, Erik, at The Mushroom Galleries. | #20 - Dscreet: Operating in a controversial crypto world | 08 Nov 2022 | 00:36:43
Dscreet is an artist and filmmaker best known to street art fans for his iconic owl characters that can be found worldwide. Beyond his street art and graffiti, though, Dscreet is a highly acclaimed filmmaker and creative of all expressions who's been honing his skills for some 30 years, building quality relationships with other creatives and exploring how different mediums can broaden the audience he can reach. As a filmmaker, moving image always appealed to Dscreet. He loved the idea of animating his characters and worked well with others on collaborative projects. Basically, it wasn't so much of a stretch to get into NFTs. He minted his own before collaborating with other projects, he was part of Ireland's first NFT show, and he is now part of the Grande Experience's Street Art Alive exhibition and has NFTs with Artflow NFT and NeoPreemo. On this episode, we speak about how he got here and get a little cynical, discussing the potential for good and evil in the crypto world. Dscreet online:

| Ep 2. NFT Utilities - Sébastien Rouby (Streetlab.io) | 01 Nov 2022 | 00:39:12 | |
On this episode of our Art NFT Insights series, Steph sits down with Sébastien Rouby, Co-Founder of Streetlab.io, to discuss NFT utilities. You know when you get an NFT, and it gives you access to a special Discord channel? Or you buy an NFT that doubles as an outfit or tool within a game. These are utilities. And the possibilities of what these can be and how they can be applied are endless. The most well know utility is the royalties that can be programmed into the smart contract to give artists ongoing kickbacks as their artworks are sold. Lesser known by many are the utilities that apply to collectors of certain NFTs. Those utilities are numerous, and new applications are popping up every day. To help unpack what NFT utilities are and share some examples of utilities in action, Sébastian speaks about Streetlab's own NFT utilities and the wonderful crazy applications he sees elsewhere in the ecosystem. | #19 - Bilos: Digital Daydreaming new walls on the blockchain | 25 Oct 2022 | 00:28:02
Bilos is an illustrator and street artist who painted his first wall when he was just 12 years old. Since then, he has gone on to become a huge name in the international street art scene, recognisable for his murals exploring illustration, ceramics and abstraction. Stradling the digital illustration and public painting worlds, Bilos developed a Digital Daydreams concept where he would photograph mural-perfect walls and paint them digitally, amassing a collection of masterfully reimagined walls yet to be painted in the real world. Leaning into his recent NFT drop with NeoPreemo, Bilos selected a small collection of his Digital Daydreams to be included in the project. Rather than taking existing murals onto the blockchain, he is exploring how he can bring new walls to life in the digital realm that do not yet exist in the physical. On this episode, we speak about the Digital Daydreams concept and brainstorm opportunities to add Augmented Reality, sharing the NFT image onto those blank walls. Bilos online:

| Ep6. Graffiti x Blockchain with Leander Herzog: Graffiti magazines & videos to social media | 04 Oct 2022 | 00:20:15 | |
On this episode, we dive into the important role documentation has played, and still plays, in the world of graffiti, street art and now, NFTs. Naturally, promotion, whether it was trying to get into magazines or working hard to build a presence online, has been an endeavour for those who want to be seen. If you want to commercialize your work, your work has to be visible, and you need to be contactable. This is not a new concept to artists. Instagram was a game changer for how graffiti writers and street artists could share their work, garner fame and open themselves to opportunities. Despite the huge benefits of social media, it's also one of the biggest barriers for artists getting into NFTs. After years of perfecting the formula on Instagram, it's now time to learn all over again with Twitter. The platforms are different, the posts are different, and the way that collectors want to engage is different. Leander and I discuss some of those changes and what artists are facing as they take the next social media step to get their art out to the online world. | #17 - Mysterious Al: From 2000s Flash animations to high-value art NFTs | 27 Sep 2022 | 00:36:02
On the podcast today, Steph sits down with Melbourne-based British urban contemporary artist Mysterious Al, who was part of London's early street art wave, tagging toilets and walls all around the city and running illegal street exhibitions with some of today's most famous street artists. Famous since the 2000s for his street art while simultaneously successful as a professional illustrator and art director, Mysterious Al lived on the art extremes before finding the style he has today, transcending mediums to apply perfectly no matter whether his work was found on walls, in galleries or in the digital realm. Oddly enough, Al had produced NFT-like artworks long before the blockchain existed. Some 20 years you could find his Flash animations on eBay for about £5. When NFTs came around, it wasn't so much of a stretch for Mysterious Al to flex the old skills, apply his new style and find fast success in the space. On this episode, Al gives a great insight into his process and how that converts to NFTs. He also chats in depth about the potential of blockchain technology for the provenance of physical paintings and the generative NFT plans he's been developing for the past year. Mysterious Al online:

| Ep5. Graffiti x Blockchain with Leander Herzog: Graffiti black books vs crypto wallets | 20 Sep 2022 | 00:12:57 | |
Both black books and wallets have served as a medium for flexing collections. Black books being physical books within which graffiti writers and their peers would collect tags from others in their community to cherish and show off when in like-minded company. Wallets today, the crypto kind, serve a similar purpose. If you've ever been on an NFT marketplace, like OpenSea, you may have noticed that you can click around, find an artist you like and see not only what they've made but also what they've collected. With this latest blockchain-powered evolution in how we collect and share, it's easier than ever to show off the goods you're proud of and connect with those of similar interests. What's more, as we discuss, the community culture has grown alongside the technology. Where once artists may have contributed to the black books of their peers, crypto wallets allow artists to put particular peers on exclusive lists or airdrop pieces to anonymous wallets simply because their collections make them part of the right community.
