You Don’t Need Social Media to Win. What to do instead…03 Nov 202500:27:47

Feeling chained to the algorithm? You’re not alone, and it’s not just in your head. This is a challenge I face every day and every week with my clients. Algorithms are increasingly challenging, and the competition to stay ahead and keep up with app features can be exhausting.

In this episode, Heidi makes a bold case: your business can grow without social media, and sometimes, it’ll grow faster when you stop forcing it.

Instead of chasing trends, we’re discussing some smarter, saner alternatives: owned channels, search-friendly content, and partnerships that actually drive results. You’ll also get a quick audit to decide if social belongs on your roadmap right now, or if it should take a back seat.

If you do choose to show up on social, Heidi shares how to make it count with story-led content and genuine engagement (not just more posts).

Episode Highlights:

  • Why strategy matters to growth on social media
  • Why you should priortize owned channels first: website content, email, SEO, Google Business Profile.
  • Why social media isn’t a “set it and forget it” marketing tactic, and the importance of engagement.
  • The importance of the shift towards storytelling versus constant selling—show people, process, personality.
  • How to use a 4-question audit (traffic, capacity, consistency, revenue tracking) before committing.
  • How to let AI assist ideation, but why you need to keep your authentic voice front and center.

  • What "idea batching" is and how it works

  • How to build an ongoing bank of ideas using tools like Notion and Instagram saves

  • Using ChatGPT as a creative collaborator (without losing your voice)

The Truth About Going Viral: Why It’s Not a Marketing Strategy14 Jul 202500:18:26

Everyone wants to go viral, but what actually happens when you do? And more importantly, does it move the needle for your business?

In this episode, we’re sharing a real client case study where a short, unplanned Reel unexpectedly racked up over 250,000 views. It was shared thousands of times, saved by hundreds, and sparked major engagement…but the results might surprise you.

Spoiler: more views doesn’t always mean more clients.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing something wrong because your content isn’t taking off or getting “enough” engagement, this episode will reframe your perspective. Let’s walk through why going viral often doesn’t lead to conversions, and what actually does. Because strategy - not virality - is what creates sustainable growth.

Episode Highlights:

  • A real-world case study of a viral Reel with over 250,000 views, and why it didn’t convert

  • Why engagement from non-followers rarely brings in leads for service-based or local businesses

  • The mindset shift every entrepreneur needs to hear: virality is a moment, strategy is a system

  • Why chasing views, likes, and vanity metrics can leave your business stuck

  • What to focus on instead: content that connects, clear messaging, repurposing what works, and performance goals that matter

Going viral might feel exciting in the moment, but if it’s not reaching the right audience or supporting your business goals, it’s just noise. Sustainable growth comes from showing up with intention, connecting with your ideal clients, and building a strategy that works behind the scenes, even when the views are modest.

If today’s episode helped shift your perspective, I’d love for you to subscribe to Stop the Scroll and leave a review. Your feedback helps more entrepreneurs discover the show and reminds the algorithm that this content matters.

Instagram Reels Made Easy: Easy Video Ideas You Can Batch Today27 Oct 202500:26:49

If you’ve got 10 seconds, you’ve got a clip: the door opening, a notebook flip, keys on the desk, a client thank-you email.

String a few together, add a “how I” voiceover or a strong on-screen hook, and you’ve got a reel…without blocking your calendar or your creativity.

In this podcast episode, If you’ve been overthinking reels, try this: film life as it’s happening—eight 3–5 second clips—and tell one specific story. That’s it. In this episode, I break down five easy reels you can batch in about half an hour, why your audience wants authenticity over perfection, and how to track success beyond views (hint: watch time, saves, shares). We’ll ditch the “faceless” trend, lean into you on camera, and make consistency feel doable today.

Episode Highlights:

  • Why consistency beats virality: aim for steady, repeatable reels rather than chasing a one-off 10K view spike.
  • Why we need to ditch “faceless marketing”: connection happens when your audience sees and hears you—use B-roll with your voice/story.
  • How to lead with “how I,” not “how to” to position yourself as the expert by telling short, specific mini-stories.
  • Make a shot list: 3–5 second clips from your day (desk setup, coffee pour, walking into a meeting, closing the laptop) are more than enough to tell a story.
  • Batch in micro-bursts: keep an idea bank, capture 8–10 quick moments tomorrow, assemble the edits the next day.
  • Always add captions: accessibility matters, and most people watch with sound off—especially on LinkedIn.
  • Track what matters: watch time (aim 50–70%), saves, shares, profile views, DMs, and site clicks > raw views

In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on what’s really going on when we feel stuck or inconsistent with our content. From decision fatigue to burnout and comparison traps, I’m sharing the honest truth about how I’ve been navigating my own marketing rut and what I’m doing to move through it.

If you’re a business owner feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to show up everywhere, this episode is your permission slip to simplify, reset, and redefine what consistency looks like on your own terms.

Episode Highlights:

  • What causes content burnout (and why it’s not laziness)

  • The decision fatigue that’s stealing your creativity

  • The harmful “shoulds” we put on ourselves as business owners

  • How I’m reworking my own content strategy to protect my energy

How to Create a Winning Email Marketing Strategy (and why you need one now!)19 May 202500:20:41

If Instagram disappeared tomorrow, how would you connect with your audience? 😬

It’s a question more business owners need to ask themselves — because relying solely on rented platforms like social media is risky. In this episode of Stop the Scroll, I’m diving into the one platform you actually own — and the one that consistently delivers the highest ROI in marketing: your email list.

I’m breaking down why email is not dead (spoiler: it’s thriving), how to create personalized newsletters that get results, and how to start building or rebooting your email strategy today — without burning out your list or yourself.

Whether you’re just starting out or have been ghosting your email list (no judgment here), this episode will give you actionable steps to create emails your audience wants to open.

Episode Highlights

  • Why email marketing still delivers the best ROI

  • What rented platforms (like Instagram) can’t offer you—and what email can

  • How to write a newsletter that builds real relationships

  • The simple structure I use for writing emails that get replies and conversions

  • Why consistency beats frequency (and what Jay Schwedelson says about it)

The Toxic Social Media Habit Crushing Your Confidence (& Your Strategy) (Fan Favorite!)20 Oct 202500:20:22

If checking your follower count is the first thing you do when you open Instagram… we need to talk.

Obsessing over followers and unfollows isn’t “staying on top of your metrics”, it’s a toxic habit that triggers anxiety, imposter syndrome, emotional exhaustion, and desperate content. Even worse? It pulls your focus away from the metrics that actually grow your business.

In this episode, I’m sharing why your follower count is not a true indicator of success, how this habit quietly sabotages your strategy, and what you should track instead to build real momentum online. Because when you focus on nurturing your current audience and creating valuable content, everything changes.

Episode Highlights:

  • Why tracking unfollows destroys your confidence and creativity
  • The psychological toll of “vanity metrics” (and why they keep you stuck)
  • Real client examples that prove follower count does not equal success
  • The metrics that actually show if your content is working
  • How to create engagement-driven content your audience actually wants
  • Simple mindset shifts to protect your energy and stay consistent

The Bad Habits That Are Sabotaging Your Social Media Goals17 Mar 202500:17:18

Does social media feel daunting? Like a chore you just don’t want to do? My kiddo often says he doesn’t want to do things that he knows he SHOULD do because they’re boring.

I don’t think social media is boring but I do think for many entrepreneurs it can feel like a chore, like they don’t get anything out of it. So, how can we shift our mindset and strategies to ensure we're showing up consistently and building quality engagement on social media? Tune into this week’s episode to learn about the biggest mistakes I see people make on social media—things like inconsistent posting, ignoring engagement, and chasing viral moments. Plus, I’ll give you simple, realistic ways to shift your strategy so you can actually start seeing results.

  • The engagement mistake that kills your reach (and how to fix it in 10 minutes a day)

Why You Need to Stop Sleeping on LinkedIn03 Mar 202500:21:14

If there is one social network we’re all ignoring, it’s LinkedIn.

I’ve had so many people ask about the value of LinkedIn and well, if it’s done thoughtfully and strategically, there’s a LOT of opportunity there.

Fun fact: LinkedIn has over a billion users and less than 1% of them post regularly so there’s opportunity for reach and engagement abound. In comparison to other platforms that feel like you have to post 5 times per day just to get seen, Linkedin tends to have a more engaged audience looking for likeminded experts for networking, personal development and business growth.

This week, we’re sharing how to get started with Linkedin - even if you already have a profile that’s been stagnant for years. We’re also sharing client success stories wherein LinkedIn has helped their businesses grow. Tune in to learn how LinkedIn can be a powerful tool in your marketing arsenal.

Episode Highlights:

  • Why LinkedIn has an untapped organic opportunity compared to other platforms

  • Why thought leadership and video content are crucial for engagement

  • What makes an optimal Linkedin Profile

  • The SEO benefits of Linkedin for brand awareness and credibility

  • Why you should focus on your personal brand first and your company page second.

How To Own Your Marketing When You Feel Like Social Media is a Dumpster Fire27 Jan 202500:18:14

Y’all, we gotta talk about the ish that’s been happening lately. Facebook is removing fact checkers, TikTok…whatever, and we’re not even touching the Instagram changes yet.

Social media can feel like a dumpster fire lately. I’ve been saying it for a while, but lately, it feels more accurate than ever.

So what do we do? How do we move our business forward and market ourselves when it feels like the platforms we’ve used for the past 15+ years are stacked against us and maybe, depending on your identity or politics, feel like they’re stacked against our values?

I see you.

This is a solid reminder that social media is rented space. So this week, we’re discussing ways to promote your business if you’re having qualms with some of the social activities of late. Values matter, and it’s okay if you want to take time away from these spaces on the internet - I promise your business won’t fail.

  • Discussion on recent changes in Facebook's policies and their business implications.

  • Importance of diversifying marketing strategies beyond social media.

Stop Copying Your Competitors: How to Stand Out Without Being a CopyCat13 Jan 202500:18:09

We’re all inspired by content. However, imagine how it feels to create something, only to see someone else create something that feels… like the same content that you put out there.

I saw a comment on threads recently that inspired this, about how a woman had gone viral with a reel, and a few days later, someone took her reel, and caption and basically put out the same thing and also… went viral. The copy cat, had more followers (by tens of thousands), and the thread I saw was like, “if you’ve amassed that much of a following, why would you feel the need to copy others? How are you lacking originality?”

This week, we’re talking about just that. The pitfalls of plagiarizing and strategies to use the content that inspires you and your competitor research to inspire your own unique brand content without being a copycat. Let’s cultivate our own authentic and engaging online presences without yanking content from the FYP or Explore tab.

In a world saturated with content, your unique voice is your strongest asset. By avoiding the temptation to copy competitors and instead focusing on carving out your own niche, you can build stronger relationships with your audience, foster trust, and set the stage for long-term success. Remember, authenticity isn't just a buzzword—it's a powerful strategy for sustainable growth.

Key Points

  • The negative impacts of copying competitors' content.
  • Importance of understanding your unique audience and brand identity.
  • Conducting competitor analysis to find content opportunities.
  • Tips for repurposing high-performing content.

Why Business Owners Need a Creator Mindset When Showing Up on Social Media06 Oct 202500:20:37

Are you treating social media like another task on your to-do list? Do you treat it as a tool to genuinely connect with your audience? For many small business owners, the difference between feeling overwhelmed and seizing an opportunity comes down to one thing: mindset.

This week, I’m exploring what it means to adopt a creator mindset in your marketing. This shift isn’t about becoming an influencer or oversharing. It’s about weaving in stories, values, and moments of connection so your audience feels seen and understood. When you bring the personal into the professional, you create content that resonates….and ultimately, converts which is what we all want, right?

If you’ve ever struggled with making your content feel authentic (without oversharing), this conversation will give you the perspective and practical tips you need to humanize your brand and show up online with confidence.

Episode Highlights:

  • Why the traditional “check the box” approach to social media doesn’t work
  • What it means to adopt a creator mindset (and why it’s not about being an influencer)
  • How storytelling builds stronger audience connections than endless “how-to” content
  • Why authenticity and relatability matter more than perfection in your content
  • Why treating social media as a creative sandbox helps you experiment, play, and grow

From my early days with LiveJournal and Facebook to working for marketing agencies, I’m sharing some invaluable lessons learned along the way. Stop Sleeping on Google Reviews: Why They Matter and How to Get Them11 Nov 202400:22:37

Have you ever wondered about the magic behind those top search results when you type "XYZ near me"? Spoiler alert: It's all about those Google Reviews!

I was recently in a committee meeting for my local business association and we were talking about to how to highlight members. “Could we ask them to share reviews with us and then we share them on social media?”

This stopped me in my tracks because what good is that?

We should be encouraging people to leave Google reviews of our member businesses.

I had to remind the committee members (all lovely, incredible business people) that the value of a Google Business Review is much higher than us sharing it around our social media profiles.

This week, we’re diving into the WHY of Google Reviews, and how to incorporate them in a non-icky way in your social media strategy.

Episode Highlights:

  • Importance of Google reviews for local SEO and online reputation.

  • Strategies to capture Google reviews without feeling pushy.

  • Significance of responding to both positive and negative reviews.

  • How to leverage customer reviews for social media content.

  • The correlation between the number of reviews and local search visibility.
