Why Your Sales Team Can't Fix Broken Marketing (What to do Instead)13 May 202400:19:11

What’s a business lie that you’ve been told? Or a misconception you have about the various roles within business.

That marketing and sales are one in the same? Lies! They are not, and I’m here to tell you exactly why. (I mean if you’re a solopreneur they are kind of the same however, they’re also not… but that’s a different story.)

In this episode, let’s unpack the distinction between marketing and sales and how they can lead to misplaced expectations in your business. Marketing should be your lead generator, build brand awareness and bring potential customers to your digital doorstep, not your sales closer. When you have unrealistic expectations, you set everyone up for failure so knowing the difference between these two pivotal business roles can help levelset and set the stage for business growth.

We’ll illuminate the common pitfalls business owners face and share some practical tips to enhance your marketing efforts.

Episode Highlights:

- How marketing can bring the horse to water, or the pivotal role of marketing in attracting potential customers and creating opportunities for sales conversions.

- Why regular, consistent, and clear messaging is vital in keeping your audience engaged and ready to transition smoothly into sales.

- The significance of non-sales metrics like audience engagement and website traffic in gauging the effectiveness of your marketing efforts.

- How a clearly defined brand story and consistent messaging can enhance your marketing strategies and create more meaningful connections with your audience.

Why You Shouldn’t Rely Solely on Social Media Marketing to Promote Your Business09 Sep 202400:21:23

How many ways do you market your business?

Today, we’re sharing practical tips to ensure your business thrives even when social media isn't the sole focus.

As social media is essentially "rented space" where you have limited control over visibility and engagement, complementing social media efforts with search engine optimization (SEO), direct mail, and community involvement helps to create a more robust and effective marketing mix to promote your business.

So, let’s dive into some online and offline strategies to help get you in front of the right people at the right time.

Episode Highlights:

  • The importance of integrating offline marketing strategies alongside social media efforts.

Bad Social Media Habits to Break 06 May 202400:22:46

We all know about those social media “best practices” right?

Some of them…that we’re hanging onto might be a bit dated and are hindering our reach and engagement online. These are what I call marketing bad habits. And we all have them.

We all think we know everything when it comes to marketing our businesses best, but sometimes, what we think is best is doing more harm than good. Like - why are you still following your sister's best friend on your business account? Or your 13-year-old cousin. You know, bad habits like that.

Similarly, let’s talk about not just marketing ourselves on social media - it’s 2024, let’s talk about having a multi-channel approach. Because some business are still expecting BIG things but only marketing on one channel and that just doesn’t cut it when you’re talking about rented space.

This week, we’re discussing bad habits to break so you can improve your marketing, connect with your audience authentically, and achieve the results you want to see.

Highlights

  • Why you should better curate your following and stop following old college roommates and family members.

  • Why posting and ghosting doesn’t cut it anymore

  • How to get over the perfection complex and why letting perfect be the enemy of good is hindering your marketing efforts.

  • Why in 2024 you need a multi-channel approach.

I would LOVE your feedback! If there’s something you want to learn or hear more about, I’d love to hear from you! Send me an email to heidi(at)heidijschmidt.com. Also, podcasts grow thanks to listeners like you - share your thoughts in a review so more people can find this podcast!

Stop Sleeping on Google Reviews: Why They Matter and How to Get Them11 Nov 202400:22:37

Have you ever wondered about the magic behind those top search results when you type "XYZ near me"? Spoiler alert: It's all about those Google Reviews!

I was recently in a committee meeting for my local business association and we were talking about to how to highlight members. “Could we ask them to share reviews with us and then we share them on social media?”

This stopped me in my tracks because what good is that?

We should be encouraging people to leave Google reviews of our member businesses.

I had to remind the committee members (all lovely, incredible business people) that the value of a Google Business Review is much higher than us sharing it around our social media profiles.

This week, we’re diving into the WHY of Google Reviews, and how to incorporate them in a non-icky way in your social media strategy.

Episode Highlights:

  • Importance of Google reviews for local SEO and online reputation.

  • Strategies to capture Google reviews without feeling pushy.

  • Significance of responding to both positive and negative reviews.

  • How to leverage customer reviews for social media content.

  • The correlation between the number of reviews and local search visibility.

Stop Copying Your Competitors: How to Stand Out Without Being a CopyCat13 Jan 202500:18:09

We’re all inspired by content. However, imagine how it feels to create something, only to see someone else create something that feels… like the same content that you put out there.

I saw a comment on threads recently that inspired this, about how a woman had gone viral with a reel, and a few days later, someone took her reel, and caption and basically put out the same thing and also… went viral. The copy cat, had more followers (by tens of thousands), and the thread I saw was like, “if you’ve amassed that much of a following, why would you feel the need to copy others? How are you lacking originality?”

This week, we’re talking about just that. The pitfalls of plagiarizing and strategies to use the content that inspires you and your competitor research to inspire your own unique brand content without being a copycat. Let’s cultivate our own authentic and engaging online presences without yanking content from the FYP or Explore tab.

In a world saturated with content, your unique voice is your strongest asset. By avoiding the temptation to copy competitors and instead focusing on carving out your own niche, you can build stronger relationships with your audience, foster trust, and set the stage for long-term success. Remember, authenticity isn't just a buzzword—it's a powerful strategy for sustainable growth.

Key Points

  • The negative impacts of copying competitors' content.
