Welding through the lens of Industry 4.003 Sep 201900:24:02

In this episode of Stirring the Pot, we talk with Kemppi Managing Director David Green.

David is very familiar with global technology trends in welding, and Kemppi is also a key sponsor of our Future Forum 20/20 Vision conference being held next year.

We start with the 'so what?' of Welding 4.0 and why adoption by industry is pivotal if we're to remain competitive, improve quality and streamline productivity. There’s no escaping the gravitational pull of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. So, deciding what we do about the new machine era will be the single biggest influence on what our future success looks like.

This boils down to leaders shifting their mindset away from just dollars in the bank right now. Instead, allocating and protecting a pool of resources and investment solely focused on the future - while of course, also running business as usual!

Getting rid of the 'fluff' around resilience & wellbeing.25 Jun 201900:43:08

In this episode of Stirring the Pot, we talk with Industrial and Organisational Psychologist and self professed leadership, resilience and curiosity seeker - Alia Bojilova!

In this thought provoking chat, she challenges our current perceptions around resilience and wellbeing within the work place. Making it known that paying lip service to these concepts are a massive risk to our industry which requires huge investment in terms of intellectual capability.

She believes the focus on resilience and wellbeing need to be a great deal more robust, especially if we want to be a business that attracts and retains top staff for greater productivity and profitability.

Saying "Stress steals time. The more busier we are, the less likely we are to pay attention to what matters. And, business as usual is sometimes a huge dusty pile of stuff we don't have to attend to. We need to pause, and focus on the things that matter as apposed to everything that is immediately in front of us."

'Rollforming' ethical leadership.25 Jun 201900:24:25

In this episode of Stirring the Pot, we talk with Renita Reddy. Director at Reddy Diamond Group - a successful rollforming company in Fiji.

Renita is not what you'd typically imagine as the leader of a large rollforming business. She's young, female, Fijian, has strong religious beliefs and is passionate about dog rescue!

But she is also brave and driven. Confronting the cultural bias of being a young female in leadership within Fiji, and breaking the mold of how people expect her to lead. She's embraced the unconventional, and chosen to be her authentic and value-based self.

And now, her resilience and 'diversity of thought' is starting to shine through. The figures are starting to quell her greatest critiques, and the results are changing mindsets across her business for the better.

In this episode of Stirring the Pot we’re talking with our General Manager of Structural Systems, Kaveh Andisheh.

One thing we have come to recognise is that one of the strengths of HERA is our amazing multi-cultural team who bring their life experiences to the table every day to inform and develop our research, training and project work. The twists and turns they have taken in their life and career pathway make for some interesting insights into who they are, what they value, and where their thought process and decision making comes from.

This is something we have started to unravel in our ‘Whanaungatanga 101’ (relationships 101) approach we have taken through the year, where each of our team have shared their personal story. This has been part of our commitment to mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) in the workplace – which has asked us to culturally shift our general approach to relationship building from introducing ourselves as someone who does a particular role at a business, to someone who you know from a much more relational and personal way.

An extension of this learning, is to now share some of our stories with you with our ‘looking under the hood’ podcast series where we’ll chat with our team members about what makes them who they are, and how they apply that to the mahi (work) they do here at HERA.

Partnering to invest for impact!01 Nov 202200:22:42
In this episode of Stirring the Pot we’re talking with Pūhoro STEMM Auckland Kaihautū Leads, David Hemopo & Waikaraka Ruwhiu-Toms.

HERA has been very fortunate to have been able to forge a strong connection to both David and Waikaraka as Pūhoro are tenants at HERA House! On top of that, we are lucky enough to receive weekly Te Ao Māori lessons from them each week, which has had a massive influence on our ability as a team to better understand mātauranga Māori and its integration within the workplace.

Join us as they chat with our Innovation and Transformation Architect, Greg Buckley around their mahi (work) to encourage young Māori to be active participants in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, maths, mātauranga) and the STEMM economy of tomorrow. Their focus being to develop a community of future Māori technologists, engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists, innovators and thought-pioneers who excel in high value careers and are the producers and developers of cutting-edge future innovation and will become self-determined empowered leaders, who can bridge both worlds simultaneously (te ao Māōri and te ao Pākehā). We also get down into how our industry can be a part of their story so they can invest for impact!

Tauiwi tautoko! The call for non-Māori support04 Oct 202200:38:39
In this episode of Stirring the Pot we’re talking with Mackenzie Horwood Verstappen.

Mackenzie is a student at the University of Auckland who is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Global Studies in Environmental Sustainability and Māori. We discuss how tauiwi (non-Māori) can be advocates and hold space for Māori to lift the cultural burden in the workplace. This is about how we can make a culturally safe environment in a genuine and appropriate way.
